GG : Wow, let me congratulate you on your new red truck! Enjoy!!
Thanks for kind words, everyone. It is so sad to see the wealth of memories and wisdom disappearing as we lose the older generation.
So true about every family having someone like E.
-
An amazing uncle you had, Alexandria. What a gift he was to the world. Your relative is the poorer for not cherishing the gift of his life. I envy your family.
E, love that gorgeous horse.
GG, I bought myself a nice red car about a year after diagnosis. Told myself its my ten year car and I want it to wear out before I do. Congrats on your shiny red truck. -
-
Alexandria, my deepest condolences to you and your family. May the memories of your uncle live on in your heart.
-
Alexandria - sorry you are hurting, and it was the LOSS of the "sister" who didn't get to spend valuable time with that fabulous man. Healing prayers to you and your family.
OK - it's official, cuz I read it online - Lady Mary will have a new "beau" when Season 4 opens, supposedly 6 months pass since car crash - Tom Ellis, Welsh, get yer hankies ready.
WHICH I wold have ready if I'd known E was gonna post pictures of her butt on top of Samson. Glenna, so glad you got to be there..wondering, how is Samson gonna come to the Next Yes/No Gathering...does he have a passport?
Chickadee - bet you last longer than the car!!! RED! YES!!!
My "news" besides LOVING my drawing class, my painting class, Life IS Good ( as E said) and hopefully will be getting even better around here - I finished 5 years on Arimidex, and tho my oncologist said it was "enough" - I 'splained it felt like stopping was playing Russian Roulette with 5 bullets - exp. after hearing what went on in San Antonio ( 10 years becoming SOC fot Tamoxifen) - so I emailed my "team" ( I was on a Clinical Trail for chemotherapy) and the Leader of the Pack said, "I vote for you to stop." YEAH, YEAH, YEAH....damn, I am happy, not scared as I was 6 months ago, but really feel I've done Yeoman's Work to do 5 1/2 years on Arimidex. LIFE IS GOOD. Happy Dance good

Good news, Sun!
-
Alexandria - condolences. What a life your uncle led. My gf is dealing with a sister like your cousin E in relation to their mother's care. It's all for show (or money) that motivates her involvement in her mother's care, while playing the martyr at every turn to those outside of the family.
I watched Hubris last night. Having lived through every moment of those lies that brought us to war, it did serve to remind me of those, but in no way delved deeply enough. I suppose in an hour, that's all they could do. The story of the aluminum tubes was so glossed over. I remember the NY Times did a 17 page story on the Nuclear Scientists who studied those tubes and there were over 15 of them. All but one said they were only rocket launchers. Only one said they could be used for centrifuging uranium. The lonely one had a Bachelor's degree, the rest were Phd's. I sure wish Colin Powell would just come out an speak about it. Maybe he's waiting for Cheney to die. Who knows.
-
((((Sandy)))) - You have had a rough time. Yes, many families have their narcissist who is too "busy" (read: self-centered) - my oldest sister has that role in mine. I got cancer, had surgey and she was only preoccupied about my seeing her remodeled kitchen.
Count me in as not liking Seinfeld either!
-
My boob lady peeking out of the snow.

A little spring!

And finally my two bestest friends!

LLilah needs a haircut.
-
Oh Blue - looks like Wendell and Dahlila are best of friends. Isn't it just fantastic to have harmony like that? I was gone for a week and my cats have since shared the top of the kitty tree. I've never seen this before, unless it was the dominent one challenging the other to get off the top. Warmed my heart. My cat sitter said he'd always find them together, in my absence.
-
So cute Kam. Lilah still thinks he's a pain!
-
Alexandria, so sorry about the loss of your uncle. The family drama sounds pretty stressful and I know you're very involved in your MIL's care. Hope you're taking time to care for yourself!
Blue, I just read the Mississippi article. Wow, just wow!
Gardengumby, congrats on the new truck! Very cool.
Sunflowers, congrats on finishing with Armidex! Sounds like you've got a good team!
-
Sunflowers - how well did your bones survive the 5.5 years on Arimidex??
GG - you did sell your house, right? Sorry if I'm confused about this...very easily confused these days. Mostly who I said what to and who said what.
-
Alexandria, I am so sorry about your uncle. It is always difficult to lose people you love, no matter how old they are. The sister's behaviour is just compounding everyone else's pain -- I know that the caretaking sister was grateful for your love and support.
Sunnyfleurs, congrats on finishing up Arimidex! You are a beacon of hope for those still slogging through!
Nice to see everyone posting -- I read every day even though sometimes I don't post as often as I could.
GG, congratulations on your new truck! Buying a new vehicle is often a skeevy, distressing, disgusting experience -- I hope you found a good dealer! I got my little yellow Toyota FJ Cruiser as a mid-life crisis car! Cute as hell -- terrible mileage, but I rarely drive it (2010 with 3200 miles on it!). Makes me smile when I see it in front of my house.
XOXO all (and thank you for the compliment, Athena!)
L -
Sun - congrats on finishing Arimidex.
Again, thanks all for the kind thoughts.
-
Kam - we're still in the middle of the house thing - through the inspection part and waiting most IMPATIENTLY on the appraisal. We were supposed to know last Thursday or Friday, the on Friday they said - well, no, probably you won't know until next Friday (that would be the 22nd). So, not knowing, we haven't really started to pack, as I most assuredly do not want to have to UNpack - but on the 24th we are heading to California for 1.5 weeks, and if it does close, it will close 2 days after we return. I'm stressed..... hubby is even more stressed.....
so we went out and bought a truck - that makes sense - right??? (actually it does, but didn't reduce the stress-out thing).

-
Well - you'll need the truck to move out of your house, atleast.

-
GG....sorry about the stress and possible gnashing of teeth. The color of shiny red and smell of leather should be a wonderful anecdote.
Chick....of course you will wear out that car. Anyone who doesn't get the stuffins' kicked out of them. Now see....you'll work all the harder at it, won't you???
Sun -- Yeah on finishing your ( as someone else I know calls it ) estrogen-sucking drug. I have about a yr. to go on mine though do not know -- don't even see my Oncologist until then, what may or may not be planned at that point. I have to admit....for the most part the drug has been kind. Some bad moods which can give me huge irritation, and a tad of stiffness when the weather changes....a bit of a bulging tummy, but not too bad so for the most part I have done well.
Always a blessing to remove as many drugs from your medicinal supply hamper as you can. So.....I hope it goes, but am open to discussion when my yr. is up.
Hope you all have a great evening.
Jackie
ETA....my brain may be out to wander some where....not sure I used the correct last word about in GG's part.
-
-
jackie, I think maybe you meant antidote.
Chickie - I meant to say earlier that of course you are going to wear out your car - just as we fully intend to wear out our new truck.
Speaking of the truck,
our goal is to sell the house (as y'all know) move into an apt for a few months 'til I retire, put everything we don't divest ourselves of into storage and then travel around this lovely country for as long as we want. Hopefully during our travels we'll decide where we want to spend the rest of our lives and settle somewhere.
On another note - got my skin cancer results today. One was a cyst (as expected), one was basal cell cancer, so I'll to visit the plastc surgeon for that one - but at least it's not a big deal, and the one I was most worried about was pre-cancerous, so back to the skin guy to have it frozen. So not terrible, but not great. -
GG, we retired in 1999, sold everything and the house, bought an RV and traveled for 7 years and spent the last two visiting somewhere new to live. That's how we ended up in Texas. I'm so thankful we were able to do it on dollar gas.
You will love it! I wish everyone could experience it. -
Great morning here....sun is out bright but our whole area ( eastern and southeastern part of Missouri and Illinois ) are gearing up for a wicked sounding ice storm. Coming later tomorrow ( afternoon and evening ). Not looking forward to it. Our main areas ( hopefully ) will get work done, but I live two miles out in the country and if we were to get anything.....we will get it last.
As far as the government...stupid is as stupid does. The obstructionists are going to have to do something sometime.
Jackie
-
Chickadee - if I might ask, what drew you to live in Texas? You seem fairly blue, and it seems quite red - which doesn't appear to be a match made in heaven.... If I'm being too snoopy - especially on a public board - don't hesitate to tell me not to ask such probing questions....

-

Morning, All!
I've just finished reading "The Big Squeeze", A Social and Political History of the Controversial Mammogram, by radiologist Handel Reynolds (published by Cornell University Press). A thoroughly interesting, easily read, and well-researched -- and bias-less -- book about why, as Dr. Susan Love puts it, mammography screening has become so controversial.
GG: About the sale of your house.....does the appraisal have to fairly match the actual sale price, or the deal falls through? Confused here, as sales here in the GWN are final after the home inspection has been done and results approved by buyer.
Chick, you and DH must have had a truly fun time touring in your RV! What made you decide to plant your roots (again) where you did?
Alexandria, warm, kind thoughts coming your way.
Jackie, hang in there! Spring is only about 4 weeks away!
Edited for typo.

Love the cat pictures. Of course, I have more cats then sense in a way so almost any cat picture just stirs a joyful feeling.

Jackie - LOVE LOVE LOVE that cartoon, really made me laugh out loud! thanks..
Kam - re: bone density, I had a baseline test when I joined The A Team ( as I call the estrogen sucking drug
) - and then every two years, and, my bones got a little better each time. Go figure. My docs said GENETICS is a HUGE factor in this, and my mom had great bones. I also am very good about taking supplements: cal/mag, got my Vitamin D up from 17 to 63, by taking 8,000 ius a day of VitD3 in rice bran oil capsules. So bone density was never an issue for me. ASTHENIA ( per astraZeneca, listed as first SE, and as a wise woman on BCO said, can't remember who it was, that it was "Greek, for feels like crap.") or what some call FATIGUE, feeling as if there were huge lead weights on my shoulders, was the one SE I couldn't get rid of
HL: I swear there is a "work-around" for every other SE!
All the other SE's were "handled" by a slew of things, mainly ACUPUNCTURE, gluten free, no sugar, no dairy, exercise ( but not enuf!) yoga, walking, MASSAGE, oh, I still love massage - I call my massage therapist and my acupuncturist the "Bookends of my Well Being." Still take so many supplements I rattle when I walk, but alot of them now are to try to reduce blood glucose levels, they seem to be really helping.
I get an IMMEDIATE reponse when I email my oncologists, and so feel their support and reinforcement of my choice, makes it SO MUCH EASIER. Know that as soon as any data is available on efficacy of doing more than 5 years of an AI, they'd let me know, and I can start again.....but hoping I'm doing wheelies in a home for Happy, Artistic Crones by the time that happens

For "Downton Abbey" fans!
