Tampa area BCO sisters get togethers

SpecialK, I saw Dr. Lee in Brandon as he was highly recommended by my bs and mo. He was very nice. My skin healed great from radiation so he would try TEs to implants. However, he said I had a 40 to 50 percent failure rate and if it failed he would have to do a lat flap. I asked him if it didn't work can he just take out the implants and he said no. So I have a decision to make. Am I prepared to sacrifice the lat flap? I am leaning toward no. Also, he is out of network for me so I may try Karen Wells if I am prepared to sacrifice the lat. With my blood clotting disorder, he didn't recommend I investigate the SGAP.
My biggest challenge right now, is keeping fear at bay, now that treatment is over. However, minimal side effects from Femara. Besides, sweating as I write this!
I hope you are doing well.
Everyone, I look forward to meeting you. I must admit I just got done eating practically half a cheesecake. It is on sale at Publix. Cool that everyone knows what Publix is!
Pam -
Cheesecake....I heard that!
Publix does make a good one but I think we need another Saturday lunch at the Cheesecake Factory.
Feb 23rd? March 2nd, or 9th?
-
Hi Tampa ladies! I need some more advice. I finally made the call to Moffitt for a second opinion! I need to go for my peace of mind! Can't stop thinking about it! I was wondering if any of you could recommend a particular Dr. For me to go to? Is one known for diagnosing tricky cases of borderline DCIS like mine? They asked me which Dr. I wanted to see but I have no clue! Guess I would rather have a more experienced Dr. Not the new one if you know what I mean! But I don't know who to ask for. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Good morning! I have been off BCO for a while. Lots of crap going on, too much business travel and other things (still out of town today), so I have been awol for the last 3 weeks and look forward to catching up.
I see suggestions for dates for our next meeting. I cannot do February 23, but March 2 or 9 will work. Let me know what you think.
-
LET1968, consider Christine Laronga or John Kiluk. I hear nothing but good things about both of them. One of our Tampa BCO group sisters recently changed to Christine Laronga and reports she is very pleased with her care. Good luck to you.
-
Feb 23 isn't good for me, but March 9th would be great!
-
let1968 - I saw Dr. John Kiluk at Moffitt for my 2nd opinion, and I really liked him. Everything I've heard about him from others has been very good as well.
I could do Feb 23rd, March 2nd or possibly the 9th. My brother is having a baby at the end of February, and I may be going up to Nashville to see them for the weekend of the 9th.
-
With family arriving this weekend for a couple of weeks and then a family reunion in early March, I'm not available to join another get-together until mid-March. Whew! Events are stacking up beyond then too, so don't wait on me. I hope to join you ASAP!
The Publix cheesecake I like (besides the 4-flavor wheel) is the plain NY cheesecake with no crust -- it makes me think there are fewer calories.
Not the diet one, though. Still, Cheesecake Factory has it beat in so many ways.
-
Kira, you said no to Feb 23 and yes to March 9. But how might March 2 work?
-
This month feels a bit hectic. March works better for me. Does anyone pass through the Brandon area if ny husband can't take me? I have a huge driving phobia. I drive where I live but afraid to go on highways and am extremely directionally challenged, which adds to the phobia!!! I am normal all other ways! Pam
-
The 2nd might work I just like the 9th because of spring break thought my DH and I could take the week off! By then he should be feeling better. He had surgery today for face cancer, so will be out of comission for the next week at least.
-
There's almost no date in March that I can't work around for this group!
Pam, I've no doubt one of us can bring you even if it's not on our way. You see, that's just how the ladies in this group are, so very kind!
As for the Lat, recently I saw Dr Gayoso in St Petersburg. One option he gave me, despite the blood-clotting problem I've had during a Diep attempt, is the Lat flap. That is because it is not microvascular work but the flap is pedicled, merely brought around to the front with it's own blood source. That, plus taking Heparin for a few days to a week before surgery. You might want to consult with him. Thankfully, he was in my network! There would be two appointments, one with the Nurse to discuss options and desires which was no-cost, and then one with him which was merely a specialist copay for me.
-
I am willing to host this event at my home for whatever date everyone prefers, that way we can stay longer. I will even make cheesecake if that is the deciding factor!
-
Either March 2nd or 9th works for me. I have a meeting at Florida Hospital Tampa the morning of March 2 but should be done by 11am or so.
Special K, it would be a lot of fun to be hosted at your house. What does everyone else think? We can all contribute a dish.
-
MondaysChild, I like the idea of bringing a dish as well. For me the 9th would be the best.
SpecialK how sweet of you to offer your house!
-
Special K, getting together at your house sounds great! And I can bring the cheescake.
Which one do you think?
-
The 9th is better for me - no need to bring anything! Lee7 - is that cheesecake or beefcake on the right?
-
ooops, my bad. dairy & beef ! I really need to re-think my dietary choices these days.
Seriously though, I can bring a healthy dish to share. The 9th will work for me.
Pam, we can probably carpool, I'll PM you.
-
Thank you, Lee! I look forward to meeting you all. If I am too far out of the way, I will ask my husband still. Pam
-
Lee7 - I think lean beef is still ok, lol!
-
The 9th it is! SpecialK, you are in charge of how you want to share location and direction. Perhaps general area here and specific details via privag=te message. And do let us know how we can help.
Roll call for attendance on March 9, please. I will update the header as you all respond.
-
I think the easiest way to direct attendees is to have them PM me for details. Do we want to go with the normal meeting time, I am OK with whatever the group wants.
-
Thank you ladies for your recommendations. I have an appointment with Dr. kulik on March 8. Hope this brings me some answers, peace of mind, & helps me decide next step in my treatment! I don't know how I would cope without these boards & all you wonderful ladies! Honestly these boards are more comforting & helpful than my own family!
Hugs -
I can't make March 9, but hopefully the next one!
-
Wonderful, SpecialK! The 9th works fine for me and I'm open as to the time.
-
annalive - sorry to miss you but sounds like you will be busy!
Glad some can make it on the 9th! Hopefully all the Tampa area ladies will see the thread!
-
Sounds lovely! Enjoy !
-
Mods - wish you could come too!
-
BCO's
I'm a tentative YES! I'd also like to plan on bringing a dish. Do we have a theme? From a previous post I believe it's "Cake"!!! Seriously, let me know what our potluck will be about......
SpecialK, thank you for opening your home for us to get together, I'm really excited to spend time with everyone without scrutiny from the general public!! Lol
Lorraine -
I had not thought about a theme - suggestions? Other than beefcake... I'm talking to you Lee7...
