That does sound like fun. We had ice yesterday, Yuck. Dh and were going out this morning to find something fun to do, but roads were still icy so we went to BoJangles for breakfast and came home. The ice is melting fast though so maybe something later...

Kathy, it's a talent to take fun where one finds it! INHO, farmers markets and craft fairs are definitely fun. So is watching all the birds that come to our feeders. I've been laid low with the flu for a week (had the shot--can't imagine how much worse it would have been had I not) and all I've been able to do is flop around the house, read and enjoy watching the constant action around the buffet in the back yard. Getting better now...even if my nose looks like it may need skin grafts.

    Tina

P.S. The chocolate at B&N is usually conveniently located at the checkout counter.

    Soleil,

I love farmers markets and try to go every week. Glad you are having rain. Having been transplanted to CA some 25 years ago, I have learned to never speak ill of winter rains. If we don't get it now, the possibility of drought looms large.

I sure can't compare with some of these posts- but I LOVE to hear that Stage 4 sisters are loving life!

Me? I spend a lot of time with my Mom in her rehab- she suffered a bad stroke in October and I'm her cheering section- and while she naps, I sit on my laptop and eat all her chocolates! SHHHHHHH!

    dbla,

My mom is in rehab too ( we joke that she's detoxing from Entenmans). She is in her mid 80's has lots of things that are weakening her and limiting her mobility. With pt, she is using her walker again and will be going home on Tuesday. I wish I could visit but she is in NJ and I'm in CA, just another poor public school teacher. Our hope is that she will make it out here for my younger dd's wedding in June. I worry so much about my parents!

Caryn, I, too am a public school teacher! Or should I say, was. I made the difficult decision to retire after only 10 years in the NYC school system when I discovered my mom on the floor of her house after her stroke. I loved my job but the administration was so incredibly cruel to me regarding my diagnosis and treatment schedule that it became a no-brainer. As hard as it is without the income, the atmosphere of that building was worse for my health.

It sounds as if your Mom is doing well enough to resume her life, even if it is a different one than she previously enjoyed. It's SO hard to watch parents age and begin to fail- they remain symbols of strength to us even in their later years.

I'm sure if she can possibly manage it, you Mom will attend the festivities. I wish her-and you!- luck and good health.

    Donna

I finally made a pillow case to match the baby quilt I made for my 5 year old granddaughter, 5 years ago! She will love it. Trying to complete unfinished projects so I can clean out the supplies!! It was a great feeling of accomplishment! Soleil, love the frog!!

Thanks!  That was my first sewing project in years.  Its was fun but challenging.  Now I have to make some more; one for each daughter  :)

Keeps my mind off things and keeps me happy.

I have chosen not to return to fulltime work as my role is high high stress!  I loved the thrill but clearly the years of 'buzz' have taken their toll.

    So now I have all this time on my hands, I have arranged a few things;

    1. To be the mummy that I wasnt while climbing the corporate ladder - collecting my child frm school and being available for all extra curricular activities

    2. Registered as a volunteer to deliver meals to elderly people - 1 night each week

    3. Taken on contract work for a charitable organisation, developing and documenting policy and proceedures

    4. Helping to enhance education opportunities for youth in our community as a volunteer

    5. Planning the trip I always wanted to take with my husband 'when we had the extra cash / when the children were older etc.... We are going to Scotland (the place of his ancestors), smooch at the top of the Eiffel Tower, go to mass at the Vatican and visit Raiatea (the place of my ancestors).  We havnt yet agreed whether we will take our children 0 i say yes but husband is concerned it will interrupt their schooling!  The discussion continues

    6. Planning to take my children to Disney Land

    7. Booked a studio and sound engineer to record me singing a collection of my favourite songs

    8. Arranged a photo shoot (and video shoot) of my sons, husband and I flying kites, playing music and laughing.

All this while keeping my promise (to myself) to not 'work' more than 5 hours a day, 3 days a week.

This is exciting and it shows me that I am in a lighter place, focusing on now...

I am having a small Super Bowl party tomorrow. Not much of a football fan but I like food and parties and the general enthusiasm that rooting for the home team brings ( GO NINER'S !). Cleaning my house, even shampooing the carpets. Just stopped for a late lunch break and wondering why, since the house might be a mess after the party, especially if the Niner's win and people are jumping up and down and screaming with food and drinks all over the place. My granddaughter will be here too and she's now crawling, which should be cute but challenging. Time to baby proof my house. Anyway, really looking forward to it!

    Caryn

PS: my party will be small. I saw a neighbor, who is a huge 49'ers fan unloading a truck full of chairs and chafing dishes. He is going to be having some party!

Sure doesn't look like a brown cabin now!! It is very light and pleasant looking. Somehow it looks just like what I would imagine your home would look, Soleil! Very pretty. I am so glad you like So. Ca. too. I love living here.

Surfdreams....ya, Mon...that is a happy song. Thank you for sharing.

Exbrnx....I love having those kinds of parties.  Crazy to have fun cleaning, but I do too.  Loud music while cleaning is a must.  I hope you have a great time tomorrow!

Judie,   You wouldn't have believed how ugly this place was.....guess thats why I got it.  I love it.  The neighbors stop by to say how nice it looks.  I love living here too, now I just need to find some purpose.  I think I'm jealous of Keeping Faith.  The more I read her post, the lamer I feel.  But I signed up at church to do some outreach, so hopefully that'll be good  and then there are always more frogs to make  ;))

Many of you know that I adore my job as a first grade teacher, so my idea of fun is attending a teaching conference this weekend. Due to CA's budget crisis, our public schools have not been able to send us to conferences in quite a few years. There was a major teaching conference held in San Jose this weekend so our Home and School Club (like the PTA) generously funded attendance for 6 teachers. Although I often learn new things at conferences, the most important thing I get out of it is a renewal of my teaching spirit. The last session is tomorrow followed by a lovely brunch. I am one happy teacher!

I am glad you are going too, Caryn. It infuriates me that our schools are in such bad financial shape that we cannot send our teachers to professional conferences. Unbelievable.

    Caryn,

Have a great time at the conference.  I loved those things when I was a teacher, you learn so much and its so good to come together with like others.  Enjoy!  Of course this would be fun.  I'm glad you were able to attend

Ebru - I'll have to look that up!  Sounds like fun, I'm always looking for distractions.  :-)

Speaking of conferences, I decided to sign up for a breast cancer conf in the Seattle area (Young Survival Coalition has lifted their age limit to 45, so I'm still eligible).  I figured it was local, so why not.  Hopefully I'll learn something new and make some new connections, though I'm questioning whether maybe I'm a little nuts to be spending my free time to go to a cancer conference!  We'll see...

Today....... Scooter riding along the bay with my 7 year old whilst husband and my 14 year old ride a tandem bicycle.

I have always loved to play on or near the water.

Now that I am not working, I have time and energy to indulge in and relive my childhood - with my family in tow : )

Family fun is the best, KeepingFaith! I wish I could re-live my childhood with my family, too. But it's too far away and too long ago.

I may go out today for some retail fun. I've decided I need new make-up.
