We're expecting 36 or 37 Celcius tomorrow - eek!!!
-
I don't know what that means, suzie! But I will eek! along with you!
My 3D glasses are certainly trippy. Words seem to float off the page. My hands are HUGE! I mean, they're big anyway but now they look like Hulk Hands!
Off to the barn to stalk....er....watch my horses in training. Respectfully, from a distance. In a non-interfering sort of way. WITH MY HUGE HULK HANDS.
E, Now in 3-D!
-
E - it means 96 degrees in your numbers - double eeek!!! Lucky we have a pool and I'll be in aircon all day.
-
So, I think America needs a National Day of Mourning for all children shot and killed by guns- on January 19. Spread the word. On January 19, wear something black in honor of the children victims of gun violence. I like this idea. I'm putting it up on change.org.
Suzie, it's going to be 50 here - in January. Not cool, in so many senses of the word.
I'm heading to Vermont again on Thursday. My youngest wants to ski for two days, and she deserves a reward for getting a 4.0 last semester, so I'm driving her up. It's beautiful in VT in the snow - so I'm looking forward to it.
-
My son in law is French. You'd think I would have learned a bit, but nein.
-
Triple eek, Suzie -
Mary - yes. Stupidity does bother me. Really, they should be better about enforcing the cretins-can't-vote law.
Now a'hm gee'tn mah gun - hya, jhya, hya!

"optimizing the customer footprint across geographies"
--Citibank's description of its firing of over 1,000 ewmployees in the last months. Just heard it on NPR - first laugh of the morning.
Banks are so full of crap you wonder how they don't clog up the sewage.
-
Suzie, meanwhile it was snowing in Athens this morning and blowing hard too. We do not have central heating, and most people who do can't afford to buy heating oil anyway this winter. So, most of the city is freezing its collective butt off today.

...and while we are on the topic of parasites:
"Fresh from paying back a $182 billion bailout, the American International Group Inc. has been running a nationwide advertising campaign with the tagline “Thank you America.”
Behind the scenes, the restored insurance company is weighing whether to tell the government agencies that rescued it during the financial crisis: thanks, but you cheated our shareholders.
The board of A.I.G. will meet on Wednesday to consider joining a $25 billion shareholder lawsuit against the government, court records show. The lawsuit does not argue that government help was not needed. It contends that the onerous nature of the rescue — the taking of what became a 92 percent stake in the company, the deal’s high interest rates and the funneling of billions to the insurer’s Wall Street clients — deprived shareholders of tens of billions of dollars and violated the Fifth Amendment, which prohibits the taking of private property for “public use, without just compensation.”
Maurice R. Greenberg, A.I.G.’s former chief executive, who remains a major investor in the company, filed the lawsuit in 2011 on behalf of fellow shareholders. He has since urged A.I.G. to join the case, a move that could nudge the government into settlement talks."

Ok, off to work - I mean, off to subsidize red states and freeloaders like Romney and the banks/financial institutions. :-)
-
Althena....business as usual it seems. Mr. Greenberg....I have no words.
Blue as always, you know just what cuts to the heart of the matter. I love that one.
Warming up to the 50's for a few days....will top out at around 60 over the week-end when we will do the polar plunge right back in the 30's. I am glad for the warmth as we need the last of our snow to get melted, but really don't like the "quick" temp. changes.

E - Hulk Hands? Really?
-
Alexandria...forgot to mention I like your proposal. Even I have to admit that the more pressing matters of personal everyday events that need attention tend to make great distraction for 'bearing' in mind this horrendous act, and of which we have had too far too many already.

I wonder if the best way of reducing the influence of the NRA (less than 1.4% of the population) is to ridicule the members for using their semi-automatics and assault rifles as substitutes for their "manhood"....

SusieQ. You wouldn't like Texas summers. Year before last we had uninterrupted triple digit days for the whole summer. Typically 105-110f. Or higher than 37c to you.
"yeah, but its dry heat". Still makes one pray for Fall and Winter. We'll be cool and wet here for next two days. Won't end the severe drought but still a relief. -
I'm sorry - can't help- re-posting this (chanelling my inner otter). Almost more offensive than the gun situation.
Here goes:

Peanut gallery comment: Memo from taxpayer to financial institutions: if you are going to rob me, stop clogging up the court system and be man enough to do it at gunpoint. Because then maybe I WILL support the NRA just to fight you mo fos back with an AK-47!!
SOCIOPATHS!
Remember the 2008 financial crisis? How we all bailed out AIG? How millions lost jobs, homes and hope? Maybe we do need to arm ourtselves against bandits.
Thank you for listening.

DH pointed out to me this morning the absolute irony that there are all these pro-gun nuts in Congress who insist that just about everyone has the right to have whatever kind of gun they want and carry it wherever they want (including in national parks!) but they don't allow armed constituents in the Capitol or in their district offices or at their constituent meetings. Why are they afraid of law-abiding constituents exercising their Second Amendment rights by carrying their lawfully-owned firearms?
ETA: they are all for arming teachers, but what do you suppose would happen if an armed teacher showed up at a district office of, say, Louie Gohmert?
... just sayin' ... -
Alexandria - love LOVE LOVE the idea - and also think the naming of it is crucial. Wish Frank Luntz wasn't so good at what he does

Linda - going to your link now - think the premise is perfect!!
BLUE, oh BLUE, where do you find those treasures....jackass whisperer...GUILTY as charged. Fabulous, just deliciously wonderful....gotta go clear up the hot tea I spewed when I saw it...
-
HL, another interesting hypocrisy - the NRA doesn't allow visitors to come into their offices with guns. They can be taken into the shooting range, which has a separate entrance, but not into the offices.
Edited to add: Athena, I've been ranting over that information myself - SOBs have no shame.
-
Ok, pitchforks against AIG, then. While they are busy exercising their fifth amendment (right to rob), I'll exercise my second amendment "right" to defend my tax money!
The NYT didn't even allow comments on the article. Maybe they didn't want people overwhelming their servers -lol!
Blue - forgot to say - superb poster about jackasses.
-
rr
that is FASCINATING info re: NRA office policy. Wonder why Jon Stewart hasn't mentioned it
Really love it.... -
Jon Stewart was back last night. He let it fly!

Hi Guys,
Wanted to jump in here this morning and wish Riley a very happy birthday today!
I had a colonoscopy yesterday. It sucked. I'll skip the long sad details. The good news is no polyps or cancer! So I'm back on the five-year plan. I was having to get that done every three years ... so this is great news.
hugs,
Bren
-
BinVa, congrats on the clear colon. I get them every three years. My mother had colon cancer, as did her mother, brother, and sister. The last time I got one, I used the alternative prep...Gatorade with Miralax. It was so easy to drink. I didn't know the Miralax was in there. No grit, no after taste.
Im finally over the AC HUMP!!! I have a head cold and sound a bit like Froggy of the Little Rascals.
Blessings

Gabby Giffords Launches Group to Counter Gun Lobby:
Source: NBC News
A national initiative aimed at curbing gun violence was launched by former US. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, on Tuesday -- the second anniversary of the shooting that killed six people and left her critically injured.
A new campaign website, Americans For Responsible Solutions, promised to “launch a national dialogue and raise funds to counter influence of the gun lobby.”
The couple last week visited Newtown, Conn., where a gunman opened fire in an elementary school, killing 20 children and six adults in December. They also met with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a gun control advocate.
“In response to a horrific series of shootings that has sown terror in our communities, victimized tens of thousands of Americans, and left one of its own bleeding and near death in a Tucson parking lot, Congress has done something quite extraordinary - nothing at all,” the pair wrote in an editorial published Tuesday on their site and in USA Today. -
He blames his rant on testosterone? Wow, what a manly man!
Are you sure he isn't a plant by the anti gun groups to rally the country to take guns away from the crazies?
