Chevy this is a post to someonelse that has referrences to diluted bleach baths I found during my horror from hell infection. The bacteria I had made MRSA look tame. I was AGHAST! I'll post it and review again and check hyperlinks to see if they work. With your skin condition, do what I first recommended i.e back to the derm doc for a biopsy. They will either do scrappings or a "punch" biopsy. Either way the next test is a look under the microscope as well as doing a C&S. Don't consider the diluted bleach baths until this is done. Secondly, you MUST read the research PLEASE. This is serious business, you must determine if you meet the criteria as identified in the Pediatric Journal article.
Revised my recommendation. Do as above, take articles with you and get your doc's okay for bleach baths.
I'm done reviewing the reposted material and fixing the links. Some originally sited articles I couldn't locate. Whats happened is there has been an explosion of info on the subject. What in 2009 was considered quite controversial, has turned into standard practice. There are sooooo many articles now, you can pick and choose. Google Keywords:eczema, MRSA and bleach baths.
The links address Chevy's concern re treatment of her eczema and everyones concern re: CA-MRSA. Ta DA--two for one-- cool.

This is the original journal article. The original research was on community acquired staph with patients with chronic eczema. The importance of this article is it has generated and been sited as reference for dozens of other articles. Many peered reviewed articles. There are also references to this article by sources that have NO scientific background that do not understand science. Some of these non scientific article reviews are dangerous because they don't know what they are talking about, and in some cases I question if they even read the original research or any peer reviewed articles.
I came across the original research when I contracted a very serious bacteria during a low immune state that was not controlled until I did the bleach baths. The bacteria I had was more serious than MRSA. After 5 weeks of standard treatment with no response, I did the bleach baths--cured in 24 hrs with another 24 hrs as a back up. Re-cultured and NED.
Everyone is aware that chemotherapy reduces immunity. What is less commonly known is that tamox and all of the Aromatase Inhibitors(Arimedex, Femara, Aromasin) reduce/lower immune status as does any of the steroids. Other drugs may do this also, but can't flip a name out right now.
What is , also, not commonly known is that sometimes we can be too aggressive in trying to "fix" a skin problem that we can make the situation worse. That is why the research is so important and seeking medical advice before trying to self treat. We can escalate a battle into a war with our good intentions.

Checking in ... not much to report. MIL is home and attached to an oxygen generator. DH is healing well from rotator cuff surgery. Children are enjoying their Christmas break and I'm only working a few days here and there through the holidays.
Always thinking of you dear ones, even if I can't stop by to say hello. Always in my prayers as well.

Sas-shatzi.... You know, I really believe I caused my problems on my hands to get worse! I think the prescriptions might have helped for awhile, but then they just didn't do any good! It very well could be, something like an infection that I just can't shake. I am going to do the bleach-baths anyway! It just sounds like it should work! I remember one time reading on the Internet to put polish remover on eczema.... Well, I did it, and thought I would fly through the roof! My God it hurt!
I never really thought of how infections can be passed around with hospital staff! It's no wonder so many people come home with something worse than when they started.
I'll be back after trying the bleach-bath.... Thank you for posting and the links! I have never heard of a bleach bath! I'll only mix a small amount in a pan, for soaking my hands.... NOT the 1/2 C in a tub-full of water.... Thank you again..... Take good care.... I'll be back.....
-
Chevy you didn't follow directions. All the articles define concentration, wrong concentration, you can burn your skin.
-
Sas, very well explained for all to understand. Yes I am tired of the healthcare system when they do things that are wasteful and then don't do what would make a complicated case simple. I wish I knew the answer to the ignorance of people making the decison for healthcare.
Hang tough,
Sheryl
-
Geez, I didn't mean to make you gals mad! All I did was mix maybe a Tablespoon of bleach into a sink-full of water, and soak my hands. And I hope I don't appear ignorant.... I didn't want to take a bath in 1/2 C of bleach, mixed in a tub of water.... because the eczema is only on my hands.... So instead I mixed (again) 1 T. in a sink-full of water. I'm sure that is what was intended.
And I did read all of the links! Sorry I caused such an uproar.... I only wanted help in figuring out what to do.... that's okay.... I'll just take the suggestion and stay away.
Signed, ignorant noodle-brain.

Sas, Chevyboy, and anyone else. One of the most frustrating things for me after 36 years in healthcare is folks in general who don't follow directions. Chevyboy you didn't do anything on purpose to negate Sas or hurt yourself (IMHO), however, what you did is where the problems come in. Research over and over again is what helps determine treatments, cures, things that do more harm than good, and so on. Evidence based practice is what our healthcare recommended treatments are all about. Meaning that research is done over and over again to determine what is healthy or harmful. While I totally understand your desire to just do a little bit on your hands, here is a solution to what would have helped more. Either fill a bathtub as recommended and scoop out what you want, or do the math and figure out the PPM (parts per million) of bleach to water and mix that. I know sounds like a lot of trouble but the cure would have been worth it. As another side note sitting in the bathtub and soaking your hands would not have hurt the rest of you other than drying your skin some.
The thoughts that if one is good then two would be better is what is so dangerous to all of us. I understand completely where Sas is coming from. When I have done research and education and learned so as to help someone and they don't do what I suggest then they have made me ask myself "why did they even ask me to find out." It also hurts my feelings because it demonstrates that they don't feel I am as credible. I need to get off my rant.
Just believe me that when people who care go to all the trouble to find answers and share them then please try to value them. Don't mean to hurt any feelings just wanted to share my feelings on this too. Please be careful with yourself.
Hang Tough, Sheryl

Sheryl thanks well put.
Chevy,you stay -
Nah, it isn't worth it.... Kind of like getting the wind knocked out of you... I didn't know I would be humiliated, just because I was too ignorant to follow specific instructions.
-
Chevyboy,
Hopefully this is a down moment and you will feel better about it all later. For me these sites have provided me way more good than bad. Don't let pride or feelings of humiliation take away what can benefit you if you let it. I don't know you at all but I know I care for people who are fearful, struggling, and in pain whether emotional or physical. If everyone was honest they could share things that in retrospect wasn't the swiftest thing in the world. Mistakes are lessons learned if you allow them to be, for ALL OF US.

Chevy Short note on kindle last night--can't type well on it.. Sheryl got it right chevy, I was hurt. Had you put you second message up before the first, I could have talked you through what to do. That's why I entreated you to "chat with me" There is another way to do bleach bath that i didn't post. It's analagous to what you did, the measurements are exact for small amounts and falls under Ocupational Safety and Health Administartion guidelines. Therefore won't cause burns. It's what I used for my head. The bath is what I used for the totally body problem.
-
Might as well post alternative use of bleach bath, I used for my head. It was for enterococcus faecalis, generally takes months to heal, if it ever heals. Very often kills the person. Now you can understand why I was freaked when it was in my scalp.
Osha Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires that all restaurants and food service areas to wipe tables and seats with a 10% clorox solution. Workers are not required to wear gloves , even though they repeatedly enter this solution to obtain and clean the cloth. If it was safe enough for their skin , it would be safe enough for my skin.
I made a 10% solution--1part clorox to 9 parts water--poured it on the scalp. Avoid eyes and ears. First dosing, I let hair air dry( as they let equipment in restaurants). That was mon.am. 2nd dosing same on mon. night. Tues same except, I rinsed off and let hair air dry. Ditto wed am. Retested with C&S Wed afternoon. NED when report came back. Didn't bleach my grey hair.
Infection started after I had applied Minixodil hair grower---???????
-
Sas, how did you get that bacteria on your head and what were the sx? I had constant sores in my head and the bad part is I am a picker so they never heal. My scalp itches and it is dry and the sores are just like dried skin. Now I don't have sores anywhere else and no pimples on face etc. I have tried everything and I mean everything. ABT from MD, all shampoos, tea tree, vinegar you get the picture. Haven't tried the bleach rinse yet and probably will as soon as I am able to shower (had port placed yesterday). I work in a chronic dialysis clinic and we mix the bleach like what you described and clean everything with it but we do wear gloves or our hands would be a mess.
One possibility for my head zitz is my diabetes which has been out of control the last two years, another story another time. I am sure this is more than anyone wants to know but it has been my experience if I have an issue someone else out there does too and this may help them. Using Google this is a real big problem but no one seems to know why. Haven't seen dermatologist for scrappings, may fit that in during 2013 since I will definately meet my deductable LOL.
Take care, Sheryl
-
SherylB, DD was complaining about the same problem at Christmas. She also attributes it to her diabetes. Let us know if you find something that works.

3 posts back continuing to write
Sherry, 3 posts back describes what happened to my head. It started in < 24 hours after I put minixodil on my head. It occurred as I described. I used the restaurant OSHA guideline b/c of the no glove rule. Figured OSHA would make employees bwhere gloves if they were in danger. I took an attitude of --I didn't care if it bleached my hair, I could deaL WITH THAT LATER. I was on oral antibx's without response and topicals. That's part of the reason finding the bleach baths was a godsend. Fixed me. But I had a C&S that told me what I had YUCK!, but it worked

Hey hey hey!! Just got caught up and I have a few minutes to update....
mom is now in TLC (trauma life center). She got a central line placed which actually went Really well (no anesthesia because of low BP). Still super low BP, had to skip Dialysis today (totally sucks) and the IV meds are not doing much...so, im spending lots of time with her...trying yo get food in her...keep spirits up: )
I want to thank everyone for the stories and everything....it helps me escape from the hospital stuff for a while....love to everyone!!!! -
For Fuzzy and her mom...
-
Hey guys mice do eat anything. I had 2dishwasher pumps replaced because they ate a hole in both within 1month of each other. GE. Did
Replace both. I was told put peppermint oil on cotton balls and put it under the is hawser. So far so good. -
OMG....we have some mice. Cutest damn things and...wouldn't ya know...I just can't kill them... when one comes out, im chasing it all over the house trying to catch it! Believe it or not...I can catch them! I have two cats that will occasionally get one...but im the real hunter! Hahaaahahaaa!! A "no kill" hunter. My mom has always told me that when I set them free outside, they just come back in. Speaking of my mama...today is a better day! She's still in the trauma unit, but her BP is close to her normal (80's/50's). Cognitively, she's about 70/30.... but, we can handle that. My youngest fed her dinner tonight...so cute! Then I fussed with her hair...dry shampoo and a fluff. She's was very very Happy tonight and that felt really good.
Ok...another really awesome thing today...my foob didn't hurt as much today. My doc yesterday really listened to me and gave me 3 scripts for pain. I was so happy with him because of all the shit I just went through. He told me he trusts me and...that touched my heart.
Tomorrow is the day we picked to do our Christmas....open presents, have a wonderful dinner and watch Christmas movies. -
Fuzzy . . . so glad both you and your mother are doing better.
Oh, here's the picture of that bracelet I was telling you about. I don't think I posted it here, but then again, I can't remember shit, so maybe I did.
-
I LOOOOOOVE THAT BRACELET!!!!!
-
Fuzzy so glad for you and mama I hope your Christmas is fantastic
Dunes that bracelet is AWESOME!!!
Ducky another thing mice hate is steel wool. Pack it in any possible entry holes etc...apparently is something they just won't chew. I used it a few years ago when I lived in the old farmhouse and it sure helped.
Love and hugs to all....lets get ready to celebrate 2013...however we choose!!!!
-
Fuzzy, the positive about your Mom is , she is in the unit that she's in. A named unit like that is going to have requirements re: training and continuing education training for doc's and nurses. Glad her BP has stabilized to her normal. Why was she discharged with a fractured hip? I reread your post, but I must have missed something, Way bizarre. Is she in the same Hospital?
Dunes --bracelet Awesome
Rats and Mice: Dear twin sister DTS, uses a plug in device that makes a noise. It's guaranteed not to affect dogs or cats. She at one time had three cats, all were okay with it. She lives in a heavily forrested area, had severe problems with mice until she put several around her place
Sheryl, the sores on my head were in the pattern of wherever the minixodil touched. They were itchy and scabby. Don't remember how long before I went to derm. The course of events were as previously describe. E-faecalis is a very opportunistic bacteria. I could have self innoculated which creeps me out. I may have been out of the operating room since 1978, but handwashing is still done the same way today.
Chevy did you do the bleach soak?
-
Yes I did.... Everything is fine. Thank you for asking.
-
Chevy is everthing truly ok? sheila
-
Thank you Sas.... I think so.... Doc just prescribed prednisone, to help me get over this... I've taken it before, for bad reactions to sulfa, paint stripper..... bug spray, and Asthma, etc. ....so maybe it will help.

Burning and shooting pains (?)
I would call your doctor and tell them to work you in right away. I bet they will.
Could be nothing -- but why worry for 10 more days?
Breathe deeply -- try to go outside and close your eyes and listen to the wind in the trees. It is good to be here on this earth. Know that you are doing everything you can to restore your body to balance. You have made good choices. You are doing your best to take care of yourself.
Coming to these boards is good -- but so is removing yourself from the worry loop -- by doing something you ENJOY. Try diverting your attention by taking yourself on a walk or to a movie.
As our bodies heal and readjust, it can be uncomfortable -- but itch normally means "healing" -- so while it can be irritating -- it is also usually a good sign. However, it could also be a reaction to antibiotics or pain meds ... so if it seems 'bad' -- definately call your doc and don't wait until the 9th.
If the sun is shining -- try that walk -- it might just do wonders to clear your mind.
Linda

Lisamarie68 - call your doctor right away and inform him. He should have an answering service and they will help you. I sugest you do it right away.
I sympathize with you about the tissue expanders but to me they feel like turtle shells...hard and tight. Take some time each day and try to do something that makes you happy. Today I am going to visit a friend who makes me laugh until I am sore.
The snow we had makes everything look beautiful. And its finally plowed and I can get out of here by myself. I had my drain pulled Wednesday, been doing nothing and now I am ready to have some safe fun. Don't want to get a seroma but also don't want to lose my mind.
Gentle hugs!
