Ro- ho-ho-ho--- hey popped in just in time to catch your post. Coumadin /warfarin is the oldest outpatient anticoagulant in use. Can be difficult to get your number right. What I sincerely like about c/w is it's reversible by another drug. The newer drugs are low molecular weight Heparin class of drugs Arixtra/Lovenox/xerallo/fragmin. The disadvantage with these drugs is they are not immediately reversible should something happen i.e fractured hips with patient on coumadin can be reversed or even wait 1 day and levels start to return towards normal clotting time. The LMWH's need to wait 5-7 days. That long of a wait can allow for all kinds of complications i.e. clots and pneumonia to name the worst--not to forget the pain.
Diet is the biggest problem with c/w control. There , also, may be a genetic factor that can be tested for. I wrote something for ChrissyB. I'll see if I can go find it and bring it back. L&H"s sheila/sassy
Hey Rocky YOOHOO (waving and hooting)---how ya doin'
-
Ro found the stuff I wrote or C&P'd for ChrissyB. The link goes to pg 169 of that thread. Diet and genetic testing are discussed on that page. Genetic testing is indicated if there is extreme difficulty or problems adjusting dose. If you want to go back to pg. 166 on that thread and look for her posts and mine where there were lots of exchanges re: problems. You would pick up info that would help over the long haul. Chrissy had a lot of problems that were "Iatrogenic", fancy word for doc screw ups. Things didn't settle down until page 169 where we got into the diet teaching and genetic testing.

BUT>>>> when you read my posts, you will notice from minimal to allot of mispellings and sometimes wierd words. They were written after I had the brain surgery. I couldn't wear my glasses. Difficulty seeing keyboard and screen. On the threads I was posting on, everyone was very patient and cooperative. Once in awhile you may run across something that makes no sense. Which I did as I was trying to locate the pages. Some of it's a hoot.
Ro, Pm me when you are done reading. I would have C&P'd to here, but way to much info.
Hello to everyone else that's here, that I haven't talked to in a while. sassy

Hello all, just a pop-in to announce a new thread---"INDIVIDUAL TO DO & REMEMBER LIST/CALLENDAR"have been trying to figuire out how to do this for months. Duh , then it was so easy. MODS MAY CHANGE FORUM, BUT SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACCESS IF IT'S IN YOUR FAVORITES.

I know an unusually large number of ppl on warfarin. ( PM me of you want to know why )
I have to ask- are you avoiding salads, greens, spinach and the like ? -
purple 32. The link that I gave Ro, covers diet extensively. Please, review and post or PM with what's not covered. I was very pleased with the info I was able to find for ChrissyB. But there can be omissions in all works.
-
Purple, I PM'ed you. Very curious.
Hey, hey, Sassy Sas! Thank you so much for the dietary postings and info. Unfortunately, I love everything on the do not eat list. Damn! Can I have cranberry sauce with Christmas dinner? I loved the typos! It looks like the autocorrect on some phones. My daughter was looking up Japanese shirts and kept getting "Japanese Shits." I told her not to order any!
Bwaak! Bwakk!
-
Ro-HOHOHO Japanese Shits--good one
Perhaps we should share why we BWKK at each other. BANTI's LIVE! Watch them PECK !
-
Yep! We should share the Banti info. Bwakk! Bwaaaakk!
-
Okay ladies... I was sitting here quiet as a mouse, but WTF is Bwakk?? Oh... and by the way...
Happy Holidays To Everyone!
May the only cheeze you have the next few weeks will be served on a cracker!

To all- Didn't want too be to graphic here on Cheesed, but the low molecular weight heparins are great until a trauma or emergency surgery is needed. In those cases people have died b/c there was no reversal agent/drug. Thus they have literally bled to death. Factor 8(?, may be 10) in the clotting cascade can be used , but there are difficulties beyond my knowledge as to why it hasn't been used. So, when someone tells you the LMWH's are better uh uh. I 'm telling you this so you know the difference between the two and won't second guess why you are on c/w. Shared this with Ro in a PM. Pondered whether I should post it here. The LMWH's are great drugs, until the trouble occurs as I've said above. What's not happening is that docs aren't explaining this to patients. I think it's criminal, literally. If a patient consents to a drug after full disclosure of risks that's different. Anyone here on that class of drugs, I may have caused serious concern and or fear. Sorry, but if you hadn't been told of the risk, at least now you can talk to your doc. Mea culpa(forgive me) ! Sassy

Rocky, helloooo. Ro and I have shared Pm's. I was trying to give her a boost. I described a certain type of chickens called Bantams. Banti's for short. They are ornery, fierce fighting buggers. Don't want to mess with a Banti. Not many people have heard of them. Low and behold Ro's grandmother had them when Ro was a child. They terrorized the kids. Hence, we chicks are fighters against this damnable BC and all that rains down on us b/c of BC complications, so, we have been using Banti's as are signal to keep fighting. Banti's Rule Brwkkk. sheila/sassy
P.S. Fuzzy gave me the nickname sassy. I love it b/c nicknames for sheila are not easy. But not allot of people would recognize me as sassy.
-
SAS - sassy suits you, you are sassy, like a banti. By the way, my last car was named sassy. She was a plum colored Corvette..
-
Rockym, To get the whole picture of the chickens, read OMG They Found the Cure for Stupid. It really needs to be read from the beginning. That will take a while, but you will laugh your head off.
-
Rocky, Bantis are the scariest animals (fowls) on the planet. I saw one scare the crap out of my grandmother's german shepard. As kids, they chased us and tried to gouge us with those wicked spurs they have on their feet. Shelia and I decided that BC girls are like Bantis. Bad Ass. So welcome to the fighting Bantis! Bwakk Bwakk!
-
Oh and about the PM's. I was put on warfarin after my Halloween surgery for blood clots in the legs. Sas pm'ed me some great info and we didn't post it on the thread because, well hell, most of us have enough downers. But the info is extremely useful and Sas shared it above. Thank you, Sassy Sas! If anyone else wants to weigh in on Warfarin, please do so. It's a scary drug.
And Rocky, I'm glad to see you on here. Love ya like new shoes!
BC-BASH IT LIKE BANTIS!
-
Rohanna
The info on warfarin really can be scary...you are right.
If you MUST be on it, just remember blood clots in the legs are scary as well. I know dozens <literally> of ppl who have been on warfarin for yrs and are doing very very well. They are both healthy and active.
-
Rocky and Wren, Ro's use and my use of Banti's is separate from OMG THEY FOUND A CURE FOR STUPID, but I agree on reading OMG. I joined OMG around page 40 and read back from page one. The writing was as good as the best writing from Sturday Night Live from the early days. Around page 44 on OMG someone wrote a post that lamblsted everyone for mocking BC. Called everyone a bunch of cackling hens, and that we would burn in hell. That post was deleted by Mods. BUT that's when the chicken thing started on OMG and lasted very heavily until about pg 110. Then a whole bunch of people dropped off posting b/c of things going on with their BC or moving on in life. Veggy and Alyson kept it going for along time, and others joined. If you read from pg 1, empty your bladder before you read. Otherwise make sure you have your BOUNTY close. HO HO HO.
BANTI SISTERS RULE !
Merry Christmas!!!! L&H&P's to ALL

Ok- here's my p.o.'ed for the holidays. Just a brief, cliff notes backdrop. I was dx with dcis on 10/08/12, 2 days after my mom died. Had umx on 10/29. My outlaws didn't say much about mx other than comparing the surgery to fil having pre cancer "sliced" off in the dermatologists office. Gee- didn't realize mx was now outpatient done under local anesthesia.hmmm they live approximately 5 miles away from us. Not once did they offer to help drive our 3 kids to their various activities- they certainly didn't offer dinner or to assist in any way,no flowers, get well cards etc. they certainly didn't show up or acknowledge my moms funeral. Tonight is their annual Christmas Eve party that we've not been included in for 15 years and I'm stuck playing flipping servant to these people tomorrow for Christmas - just like the last 4 years. They sit on their butts and do NOTHInG to help- I am really resenting that they do not help AT ALL and I repeatedly told my husband that I did NOT want to cook this Christmas and wanted to go out to dinner instead. I've been so busy doing all of the shopping as well as helping a lot with my 13 year old daughters ballet studios production of the nutcracker- I'm starting to get sick...Ho Ho Ho I'm staring to hate the holidays!
Thx for listening -
Mericat, OMG (and I don't say that often)! What I will say is I don't know how old you are, but now is the time to stand up for yourself and your family. You can't pick your relatives, but you CAN choose when and how to deal with them. I turned 48 this year. I've been with my husband almost 30 years. Years ago, his mother loved to make us miserable. His aunts were the same way. And don't get me started on how they treat the daughter-in-laws. Anyway, we were visiting years ago when my son was about 1 or 2 (my kids are now 14 and 10). I had asked her a favor... I needed a photo of her and my father-in-law for a baby book I was putting together. After a month of her not helping me out, I brought it to her attention again. At that time, she called me a bitch, told us that my husband was lazy for not helping with her plumbing (p.s. I'm the plumber in the family :-)) and a few other choice words.
I took my lovely son and told her that I was not putting up with her crap any longer and if she wanted to be part of our family, she better pull it together! In the past, every phone call from her somehow lead to my husband and I fighting and I was done. Fast forward about 13 years later... we only see her a few times a year. She is always on her best behavior (which was tough for her back then, but now at 80 she has mellowed). So, that is part of my story. About 3 years ago, I told my best friend this story because her mother-in-law was EXACTLY the same and making her life miserable. There comes a time when you have to take the bull by the horns. If your husband won't stand up for you and the family, you will continued to be walked on forever.
BTW, my mother-in-law only called a couple of times (to speak to me) during the last year plus when my life and boobs were in peril. My sister-in-law (mil's twin that lives a few blocks from her - lives alone and not married @52) called once. During my distress the last year and a half, I made a new family with new friends :-). Okay, off my soapbox, but Mericat, I just wanted to reply to you directly and tell you to feel free to come here and CHEEZE IT UP :-)... that is what we are here for. Of course, now that you know life is short... speak up and out! Don't let anyone walk over you! You rock, they suck!
Nips Up and Flaming Hot!
-
Wren, I started reading OMG last night. Very funny. There is also a newer thread called STFU that is similar to our cheeze. Funny too.
Rohanne and Sas... Now I get it. I thought I was losing a few more brain cells. I assumed bwkk was some darn acronym, not a freaked out wild fowl!
-
Merlcat Whew, I thought my inlaws sucked. Merl what would happen if you didn't entertain them?
Chabba Hello old friend, a plum corvette, hmmmmm. sassy it is!
-
outlaws didn't say much about mx other than comparing the surgery to fil having pre cancer "sliced" off in the dermatologists office....
I hope this doesnt come put wrong, Mericat because your post made me wince. I truly feel for you.
Ball's in your court now. Yep, I know it's bad timing, but the darn game just keep going on - with or without you. It's time to speak up to your MIL . Let her know the pain you have gone through- both physically and emotionally. That's the best " gift" you can give her. Trust me- unless she is in an inhuman monster., she has been( inadvertently) shielded from all of this by you. She's essentially been let off the hook.
Call her out.
Merry Christmas !
-
Hope everyone is having an awesome Christmas and that the New Year brings us good health.
Rock on Bantis!
-
Made my attempt - I had a very difficult time keeping my temper as my umx was likened to a "boob" job- um, not even close and to mils colonoscopy where she had a polyp. I swear, it just got to the point of trying to explain what a mastectomy is being told"don't get depressed about it" and "you know, you don't HAVE to have reconstruction"- just what I want, a dd boob on one side and either nothing or this fabulously comfortable not matching TE on the other. I give up! Sorry but "F" those people! It's impossible to reason with crazy, etc people! Grrr assh*les- I suppose the one bright thing is they stayed on their asses in the family room while I cooked, with (purposely) the exhaust fan on high so I couldn't hear them. Lol the champagne I was drinking was good - of course, they came empty handed....
-
Mericat, I'm off to MIL's for a 4 night stay. Fortunately, we are sleeping at a hotel a couple of miles away :-). Well, as for for "extended family"... hopefully they stay extended far away from you after the holidays! Glad you did the next best thing to telling them off... alcohol! You can never change dipwads like that, but you can try to make yourself less present.

RE: Farrow gloves dassi said
" We should advocate for a change in policy. Can't say I would boycot them because they still make the best fabric around."
I could not agree more. Perhaps we could try to get MANY of the girls here to email and ask if they would consider standard refund or exchange policies. I will post on a few threads, AND I will personally shoot an email off right now asking for it.
( OR 1 979 822 9120)
What do you say, gals ? Will you help us out ? There is power in numbers.
Perhaps some of you could write and say that you heard of the FARROW glove but also heard they do not have a standard refund or exchng policy so you dont want to chance them(?) Any takers ? I/we appreciate the support!

Hope 2013 is cheezless for everyone. But then, if it was, it wouldn't be "normal" and we wouldn't have stupid people to rant about. Love and Hugs!!!!
-
Well, I finally hit my INR mark with the Warfarin yesterday! Treated myself to a jug of Sweet Tea from Chik-Fil-A! So, I'm not cheezed, I'm pleased! Hope you are all doing well!
-
