If any of you have time for some extra prayers can you send them my way to my husband Dan?????? He lost his job a year and a half ago and has been working a couple of jobs since, mostly for insurance. He had 2 interviews this week and they look pretty promising. He has felt pretty awful since this has all happened because he wants me to be able to quit if i want and right now i couldn't. really not ready to quit, but he feel he has let me down. and of course that is not true, but guys like to provide, i get that. If he gets one of these jobs, he will be back to being able to be "the man" lol, and he would feel so much better. 1 1/2 years ago was a tuff time for him, his mom moved in with us with brain cancer, he lost his job 2 weeks after that, and then my cancer came back 4 month after that. He has been burdened since and i hope this job, if he gets it, will lift a load off his shoulders. My saying always has been "its all good" i think he will bop me over the head if he hears that any more. He stresses more than I.
Thanks everyone...thats my story, hope you don't mind i sent it out
Oh, and his mom is in heaven now. She had a beautiful opera voice. I am sure God is loving it

I'm really sorry, Ray! I should've PMed Malinda so it wouldn't make you cry
You know how much I look forward to meeting you. It WILL happen; I promise! Looks like we may have a good sized little group meeting someday with Susan, too, and anyone else that wants to join. I will be over the moon when that day comes!
Susan--you betcha I'll keep your dear husband in my prayers, as I'm sure everyone will who's reading this board. My husband can relate to yours a bit. It's hard to see our men feeling like they're not able to provide in the way they'd planned. You're so right about the "beauty in the fire," though. Mortal trials can provide the brightest and deepest love in us and for us, and monumentally strengthens our faith. Enjoy snuggling with your daughter tomorrow!

-
(((Susan)))-Your husband Dan (& you:) will be in my prayers too. Life throws so many things our way it's hard to catch & understand them all. I hope these jobs pull through & if not one really soon! I can only imagine the extra stress this gives to you & your family. AND I hope this new treatment works for you. Praying for that too:)-xxx
JOANNE-can we make her (Ray) feel bad, well bad is a bit mean maybe just a little Jealous:} Evil laugh. I'd LOVE to get together. We must be able to make it work somehow, even if it's just the picture:} evil laugh:) I'll actually be in Provo turkey day. If not then sometime between then & Mon. We'll keep in touch. I can PM you my # too:-) Great suggestion for gifts...if I think of some I'll pass them on too. AND I'll send the links via email...sorry not to respond sooner:o
Ray-I really don't want to make you cry...I'll let Joanne do that:) Hehe. LOVED the quote btw. Your food sounds really good! Pumpkin rolls! Mouth watering:) I hope you have a great 1st turkey day with your cute
son:) 3 weeks! Where has the time gone.
Dr. First hope all is well there too.
I LOVE reading all your comments etc! I can't believe I havent "checked in!" I've misse out:o All is well here. Treatment today lunch with chemo friends here. Some cool news I heard today. My onc thinks there is a CURE out there for my type of cancer (with HER2+) & thinks it just needs to be approved and made available! Wow wouldn't that be awesome if that progress could come about for ALL of us!
I also saw a clip on the "Today" program that Leukemia that was not possible for kids around 50 yrs ago is now CURABLE today! AND I know first hand that non-hodgkin lymphoma for kids is now a shot & works! Thats less than 20 years of development! Great things are happening. The Lord has a timetable. Whether its the one we want or not it's there.
I started rehab last Thurs so i could start to get stronger etc. I was sore, but its a GREAT thing. Oh I also got my nursing license renewal in the mail last week! I'm good for another 2 years:-) Happy Dance. Enough of me...
Best Thanksgiving ever to all! Prayers, hopes, & dreams for everyone. One day at a time, enjoy the moment, and enjoy the journey not just the destination:-) -
Firstcall, painterly, raro, MOmom2three, denise2012 WHERE ARE YOU??? I hope you're all well:o

Another to share about a smart bird...and that's why we don't eat parrots:-)

I had treatment today & the steroid they give keeps me awake. I could ask you the same ?:) Esp since its later there.
-
Haha...about jealous. AND if Susan joins us wont you really be:o We may not tell you that:)
No pumpkin roll:( I'll be nice:-D Big smile. I'm already crawling & groveling to ask Joanne to forgive me. (and I'll need to do the same about the doughnut recipe & music:o *sigh -
YEAH! That's great news:) Your "free." Ah that must feel so much better! Happy dance.
I bet your kitchen smells great. Warm rolls & glazing the ham. Man your family is in for a treat. At least yours will be good:-) I hope you get to sleep in a little Tomorow to make up for tonight. At least your making good use of your time:-) -
What fun, reading all your posts! Pumpkin rolls are the BEST! I'm sure yours are to die for, Ray--yum! Hope you found hams for a good price today!
Malinda--we'll hope for the best and try to meet up and take pics

Flying out early tomorrow to Utah. Hope the little Long Beach airport isn't too crowded. It's a full flight--ugh! The Utah weather has been warmish, but it'll be cold when we arrive. Looking forward to seeing my grand daughters. The twins are 8 mos. old and crawling everywhere, and the 2 1/2 yr old dances to every song she hears and is such a little pill, according to her mom. It's SO hard living so far away from my grand children! Others are in Iowa, and my newest, due in Feb., will be in Washington. Boo-hoo! BUT, Skype and pics on Facebook help a lot.
Have a wonderfully delicious Thanksgiving, everyone! Blessings to all of you and your loved ones!
-
Ditto Joanne...Safe travels & lots of fun with the family:)
Ray-btw-you are a great light to us too:-) Shared the quote...
What's everyone's favorite part of the meal, or food, etc? -
Finally fell asleep:) Hope you got some sleep too.
We always had the thanksgivings at my parents in California. My mom had so many amazing choices! We all dressed up & had food galore that covered the whole bar area & kitchen:-) Sweet potato casserole, taboulie, reg potatoes, 24 hr salad, 3 types of cranberry salad, stuffing, turkey, ham, great grandmas apple sald, patte & crackers, cheese balls, puffed rolls, cheese balls, orange rolls, steamed carrot pudding, a fruit cake, pumpkin, pecan, lemon chess pie, rum, lemon & carmel sauce...Mmm. We had some good ones when we moved to Utah too but we "left" some of the family in Ca:-( But we also gained some when we moved.
One of my favorite thing about turkey day is of course all the food, eating what's on your plate & going back for more then more & no one even notices because they all do the same:-)
Hope everyone has a GREAT day. I'm so thankful to have a another thanksgiving & be with family & friends:) That includes you on here too:) xxx -

-
Hi everyone….thought I should check in.
Ray…..love the pics What a delightful looking kido
TallM---Thank you for checking on me….
I’m doing well, but had a little issue the past week, and haven’t checked in. A little over a week ago, I developed some floaters in my left eye, and flashing lights. I was concerned that I might have a detached retina, and went and had it checked out. The retina was fine, but I have a detached vitreous. And I have to start wearing glasses now. Other than readers, I have never needed glasses. I understand that a detached vitreous isn’t a big problem, and that I will adjust. Did Chemo push me over the edge to need glasses?
I hope everyone is doing well.
-
sorry to hear that firstcall. can it return to normal? never heard of that before. good to see you back
hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!!!Ray, I am doing well. day of and day after infusion i felt good. then crashed 2 days, while kinds crashed, i am real stubborn so i am not always good to myself. I push too much, oh well. but today I am really good. So if this is the pattern, I can live with it. 2 bad days out of 7. doable. I just hope this treatment lasts for years and years. this is my 5th one in 14 months. Glad there are so many. The biological make up of my cancer cells have changed and they figure out how to use the treatment as food. Its actually fascinating, in a morbid way, lol. hope your chaos settles down. we should plan on a spring fling ha ha
hope Joanne and Tall M have recovered from the holiday

-
you ok Ray ?????? I will pray that you have clarity. hugs
-
absolute,y positively do doubt about it......SPIDEY....hold your applause. I was real mad growing up cause i was a boy and couldn't be spider man. i even climbed into the old cement garbage cans in the city to collect spiders!!!!! I still didn't become spider "girl" it so sad when your dream are crushed:( I told Claire one day on the way to a spidey film, and she said"promise you wont tell anyone")...ha ha ha... i don't care who knows...it was my only obsession ever!!!!
-
Phew...I'm glad to catch up with everyone.
Dr First sorry about your current situation. A detached retina is no fun. I hope the glasses help reduce the eye strain etc. I know a cornea transplant can be done but retinas are a little more complex if my chemo brain remembers correctly tonight. Hang in there & we will all pray for you.
Susan Hi! I hope you're doing well & had a great visit with your daughter & her boyfriend. How's the job hunt for your husband? We will pray for you & you're family too.
(((Ray))) How are you??? I hope things at your job have settled or are more clear as to what you should do. I know the feeling. We will pray for you too. Super hero??? Haha I know it's a bit late but I liked wonder woman & even had wonder ruse of her:-) Susan lol on spiderman:) My 3 year old niece LOVES spiderman & has some of the perifinalia of him. She even was him for Halloween with a skirt:)
JOANNE-should we tell Ray??? Hehehe. I'm glad you had a safe, busy trip. I'm beat & I'm sure you are too (& everyone else). I crashed on Sat-did NOTHING but rest & now I need another day like that!
Craziness rules & I was sucked into cyber Mon & "cyber" Tues:) I was selfish this year & got some things for me too:-) It was fun & I've never really taken advantage of that. The girls in my family used to go shipping on Fri but that has changed.
SUSAN! There must be a way to meet up. I think it be so fun!!! Yes! Everyone else???
Have a great night & I hope all can sleep, feel rested & feel fabulous tomorrow.
One last thought. One of my best friends dads past away this weekend! He was only 60, healthy, a retired prof of law from BYU, currently working as a lawyer, AND an actor for over 30 years at the well known Hale Center Theater here in Utah. He had dinner with his family Thanksgiving & just collapsed! He was put on life support & later taken off. The reason I mention this is to reflect on how amazing life is & how thankful I am for every moment, everyday & each one of you. Life is precious & valuable. Take care everyone. xxx -
what was his name TallM so we can pray for the family????
as I side note, i do have spiderman underwear pjs, that I love
and still wear -
TallM...thank you for your thoughts and prayers. It turned out that it was not my retina, but a detached vitreous, which is much less serious, and I anticipate that it will do well. I'm at increased risk for a detached retina, for a month or so, but so far so good. I go back in for a recheck in a couple of weeks.
-
I will pray for you firstcall, that it heals well...you didnt answer the super hero question from Ray
-
Thanks Susan. His name was Richard Wilkins. He has 4 children & 8 grandchildren. I went to school with his kids & he has a daughter my age. We have been great friends since high school. A really sweet family.
Here's a blurp about him from the local paper for FYI:
http://m.sltrib.com/sltrib/mobile2/55356433-218/wilkins-family-law-legal.html.csp
Dr First. Glad it's a little less serious. Situations with eyes can be a bit stressful as our eyes mean so much. Fingers crossed that all will go well. How's your missionary?
My nephew has now had 2 nights in the MTC (Missionary Training Center in Provo-Before the missionaries are sent of to teach they spend time learning the language & helpful tools while there out). He will spend about a month there & then head off to Tiajuana Mexico for the remaining 2 years. He's excited & very ready. I've heard how unsettled Tiajuana is with the boarder situation, drug running etc. I'm sure he will be protected but it's hard not to worry a little.
Had rehab again today & I can tell a big difference of getting stronger! So cam the people helping me. Even my friends that work at the hospital can't believe how much better I look then when I saw them last! All I know is it's a miracle & I've been given the gift of more time, which I'm so thankful for. A real miracle!
Hope everyone is well & enjoying each moment they have. xxx -
glad to hear TallM, cause i want to go hiking when i get out there. Yellowstone sound good to me!!!!!
I am still walking a lot and a little running. chemo keeps me grounded about 2 1/2 days. then i do piano and knitting. hoping to keep going strong.
Dan hasn't heard about job yet, but we should hear in January..all fingers and toes crossed on this one!!!!
ok, trying to get some sleep, want to enjoy the 50 degrees tomorrow and Saturday. those are my bad days but think i will just push through. I will let you know if that was a good idea..lol
-
Good luck all with everything Susan! Sleep well:) I'm off to try to sleep too.

My missionary son is doing very well. It is so amazing to read his weekly emails. Having a son/daughter in the mission field is a wonderful thing. He told me that Hurricane Sandy affected one of the Brailian consulates, and because of that the last group to arrive consisted of one missionary. Its generally dozens at a time.
I was helping at the Bishops storehouse recently and learned of an interesting experience. They were preparing Thanksgiving orders for the needy in our area, and it turned out that they didn't have the cottage cheese they had planned for the orders. So the director of the storehouse went to the local supermarket to purchase (with welfare funds) cottage cheese to put with the food. He took his place in line with a shopping cart full to the brim with cottage cheese. The lady in front of him looked and said....'Oh my....someone likes cottage cheese!" He smiled, and explained that he was a church service missionary, and that these were part of a meal being prepared for the needy in the area, and that by nightfall they would all be in the homes of needy families. As the lady checked out and paid for her groceries, she told the clerk that the cottage cheese was hers too, and insisted on paying for it. There are, in fact, a lot of good people on this earth, who quitely go about doing good. This is why we send missionaries out, to find these people. I am grateful to have a missionary son.

very cool story firstcall!!!!!

It's been a LONG time since I posted!
Had a wonderful time in Utah for Thanksgiving, MIL's 80th b-day party and my oldest son's 30th b-day party. It was a whirlwind trip, packed full of relatives and traveling and babysitting my son's daughters that I rarely get to see. My 2 yr-old and 8 mos. old twin grand daughters were lots of fun to care for. I'm please with how well my DIL is taking care of them without losing her mind! Tall and I tried several times to get together, but it just didn't work out--darn it! Next time, and hopefully with more from this thread!

As soon as I returned hoime, I was wrapped up in prepping for my students' piano recital. I had 29 of 34 students perform and most did really well. It was a "Disney Christmas" theme. It opened with "When You Wish Upon a Star"--one of my all time favorite songs--and ended with "Wizards of Winter" made famous by the Trans Siberian Orchestra. This student played it SO fast and precise that it made your head spin!
I only teach beginning and intermediate students. I'm not a good pianist--playing hymns in church is my style--but I love to teach and am thrilled when I hear my students perform or accompany in church meetings and other events. Some of my students are LDS and many of my students are from many cultures: Indian, Pakistani, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Korean, Hispanic, etc. I had them bring a favorite food to add to the cake and cookies I provided, so we had LOTS of different foods after the recital. I was happy it was held in the chapel at church so we could use the lovely baby grand. Most people there (over 120--yikes!) had never been in an LDS church before, so it was nice to see them looking around and commenting on the lovely atmosphere. One grandfather of an Indian student said he noticed in our hymn book that we had "Lead Kindly LIght," which he said was a favorite of Mahatma Ghandi. He asked my husband when church started so he could come and hear our scriptures read. He came the next morning! We didn't see him, but I found out from my student's mother that he came, sat in the back, and met a lot of people and enjoyed himself. It was fast and testimony meeting, so I hope he felt the spirit with all the different testimonies born by young and old.
Susan--Keeping Dan in my prayers for that job in January. I hope it comes through!. Hope your tx is going well--no crummy SEs. Didn't know you were a hair dresser. That means you are ultra coordinated in using both hands, IMO. I'm rotten at holding a brush and hair dryer to my head at the same time. Hope your piano playing is still bringing you joy. Are you knitting any Christmas gifts?
Ray--I'm forever amazed at what you accomplish without much sleep! How I hope you're able to juggle the jobs and Jacob (like that alliteration?
and have the energy to enjoy some quiet time this Christmas. How exciting --to have a wide-eyed little boy on Christmas morning! You and John have provided Jacob with such wonderful "gifts" already that I know he appreciates. Your strong marriage and close, extended family is something that will bless him forever. Tall--I'm so sorry about your friend's dad passing away during Thanksgiving. The article was very nice to read--what a wonderful life he lead! How are you doing these days with tx? Sounds like you're doing well with rehab--good news! You did lots of traveling during Thanksgiving. Will it be the same for Christmas?
Dr. First--thanks for the cottage cheese story--nice! My youngest son will be going on a mission, soon. Can't wait for him to experience the joy of serving, selflessly, and teaching others of Christ.
It's taken me a while, but I've caught the missionary bug and sure do love sharing the gospel. It's been a blessing to watch one of my piano student's mothers enter the waters of baptism and recieve the Holy Ghost. Her Jewish mother and father came to the baptism and approved, recognizing the spiritual change in their daughter. They support her, which is amazing. She's doing well and being a wonderful missionary to her family and fellow employees.
Thanks for stopping by, blackcat2012, and hugging our RayRay. I know she appreicates it!

I'm dog tired tonight, but it's a good tired. My husband, daughter and I were involved in he Young Women and Young Men church activity tonight, alpabetizing and bundling all the Christmas cards for our "Post Office" we have at our ward Christmas party each year. There are over 200 families in our ward, so it was a HUGE undertaking! It's wonderful, being able to save postage and have our cards delivered during the party.
Have a great rest of the week, everyone. Know that you're always in my prayers

-
Been so busy haven't been on for awhile - I jsut got put in on Sunday as the YW 2nd counselor -help!! Anyone know of any good websites for lesson ideas etc!!
-
Rehab is AMAZING. I'm even getting stronger than I was when I started & can walk much farther than I have been able to in a long time! I'm so excited. I'm even thinking of returning to school to work towards a nurse practitioner degree. A long road but hey I'm still here why not. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time:)- I need to find more info & will look into the online versions to.
Welcome blackcat! I know Ray appreciates the shout out!
AND vmudrow great to have you back.
JOANNE-Perfectly well said! Firstcall love the story. Susan still praying & thinking of your family. Christmas will prob be similar with travel & will prob have Idaho thrown in there as well:) Glad your students did well & it was a positive experience. Theres a student recital Sat for the WSU prep students. I'm going to 1 of the 3 recital as I have only 1 student now. But he's a great 1 to have:)
((((Ray)))!!! Oh dear my prayers are with you too. I hope you'll check in once & awhile & take care of yourself & family. You will be missed.
Have a great week everyone! I'm sure going to try as well:-) xxx
