BTW vmudrow-Joanne is a great one to ask anything of:) She's like "ask jeeves." Plus she's in YW:) Good luck! If I hear of anything helpful I'll send it your way.
-
Congrats on your calling, Vmudrow, and good luck! I find lots of stuff on pinterest. Just google "Young Women activity ideas" and you should come up with a bunch. I follow this ward's blog and did the "unity" activity last week with all the girls in our ward. Here's the link:
http://naperville2yw.blogspot.com/2012/06/we-are-young-women.html#comment-form
I made some adjustments to one of the 5 activities, changing the goodies in the bags to things not necessarily edible, and had the girls pair off and decide what the items could symbolize (an eraser = "we can all repent and try again," a pencil = "record your blessings" etc.) We shared them together and learned a lot from the girls' personalities. I have a list if you're interested. They liked the clay molding with hands tied the best. PM me if you need more ideas. We did a scripture scavanger hunt in Target and had a blast! I have the list for that, too. On the blog link I gave, click on "2012" and you'll find lots more great ideas, especially for YW in Excellence programs. Their "Mission: POSSILBE!" theme was really clever. My sister did it in her ward in Lehi with great success.
Ray just did a fabulous "Super Heroes" theme for her YW in Excellence. You could PM her for all the info. I know it was a wonderful night for everyone and I totally plan on copying her next year!
Hope we can all share our ideas! -
(Hi, Malinda! We were cross-posting tonight--ha! Thanks for the compliment

-
Joanne - Thanks for the info and the website!! I think it will be lots of fun!!
-
Lol Joanne. We seem to do that a lot:) AND I knew you'd have some great ideas:)
Hope everyone else is well. I had some sort of rash & fever hit suddenly last night. Went to onc this am with swollen eyes & less rash & fever. Started some abx & rested today to avoid the ER! Yucky & forever time taker. No idea where I picked up whatever it was.
WSU has recitals tomorrow & I want to hear my students but it looks like I won't be there:( It's a combined teacher recital so teachers will still be there to listen.
Take care everyone & I hope you have a great weekend. xxx -
Darn it, Malinda! I hope the abx kick it out of your system, soon. Lots of sickness this time of year, so I'm not surprised you picked up something. Please take it easy so you can get back to teaching and doing what you love most. I'm betting someone will video the recital so you can still watch...in the comfort of your jammies
Here's to feeling better by Sunday! -
Thanks Joanne:) I'm already feeling better. Rash is mostly gone, fever down & my eyes aren't poofy anymore:) There is a lot going around & I've been lucky so far.
I've been helping put presents together & watching Christmas movies. Thanks again & I hope all stay well & enjoy the holiday season:-) xxx -
It's been SOOOO quiet on this thread, so I'M WRITING IN CAPS TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE--HA!
Sounds like you've got the Christmas spirit, Tall, wrapping and watching holiday movies. Wish I was done with shopping and wrapping, but I barely got my tree decorated today with tons of stuff left to do to get ready for my first set of married children with grand kids coming Sat. Still need a queen box spring--anyone have one to loan me for a week?
JKidding, but I know if you all lived close to me you'd do what you could. Craigslist is what we're banking on for a few things in a hurry. My Freshman son, Jake, has been very sick up in Idaho with 103 temp. and bad throat infection. He's getting better and on anibiotics, but had to drag himself to class this week and take his finals, poor kid! He'll be on his way home this weekend and preparing for his mission when he gets here. Still can't believe he's old enough to serve a full time mission!
Tomorrow is my last day of teaching until Jan. 7th. It'll be nice to have day and night to spend with family. That's the fun kind of "work" I really like!
Hope all is well with you, my dear friends, and that you're enjoying your Christmas preparations and get togethers with loved ones. Wish we could all "get together" this season, but we'll just have to settle for "in spirit" this time.
May the Lord bless all of you with everything you stand in need of~

Yes....its been quiet on this thread. I tend to be more of a reader than a writer, so I'm writing! And you can too.
Ive been working on lymphedema. It isnt bad but my MO wanted me to be proactive with it, because there was a little, and I fly frequently and am very active. I'm working with an OT who is certified in lymphedema, and she is doing a good job. She has improved my range of motion in my shoulder quite a bit, and my scars and underlying tissues are doing much better. One measure of improvement - I took up swimming a few months ago to help rehab myself. After two weeks with my therapist, the distance I could swim in 30 minutes increased by 10%. It helps to have things moving better, and blood and lymph flowing better. This week my sleeves will arrive. I've been wearing OTC sport compression sleeves, which help, but the prescription ones will be a little better, I think.
I hope everyone is well. my missionary son goes from the MTC (in Brazil) to his field of labor this week. He wants me to send him an MP3 player with tabernacle choir which is the only approved music for them to have. So that is one of my next projects.
-

A BIG HI TO ALL!!! Wow time has flown the last bit. I was glad to catch up with you & see everyone is getting busy with family:-)
Joanne-sorry your sons not been well:-( Esp to have to take finals like that. I hope he travels home safely. I also hope you get all you need before everyone gets there. AND enjoy the break from teaching.
Firstcall-I'm excited for your son to go on to Brazil. It seems like just yesterday he was headed to the MTC in Brazil. Best of luck to him & to you getting him the music.
Susan-sorry about the hair:-( It's hard but you're smart to cut it. Ya, hair doesn't taste very good. I hope you get over your cold & are able to enjoy your daughter.
I had an MRI & CT scans today & will have results Tomorow. I think they'll be good but trying not to celebrate before I get the hard evidence. I'm going on 4 months of feeling pretty good! So excited & extremely grateful. Rehab has made a HUGE difference.
Take care everyone & hope you all have a very merry Christmas & a happy new year! I hope to hear from everyone & write sooner:-)
AND RAY sending you sunshine & rainbows (my aunt from NZ says that. It's esp nice because they're headed into summer:) xxx -
I thought you'd all like to know:
I had a brain MRI & CT scans on my abdomen, pelvis, & chest Tues & the Dr called me tonight & told me the Brain=resolved. Dr said that's rare & is divine intervention. Pelvis, abdomen=resolved. Liver has no more tumors or lessons present! Chest=pulmonary & lungs=good. The only thing still to be resolved are the bones. The Dr hopes those will follow! He's amazed! So am I:-) I asked if I was still a stage four & he said because of the bones I am. But I'm making good progress & will stay with the treatment I've been having😃
Merry Christmas everyone & a Happy New Year! xxx -
Congratulations, dear Malinda! So happy for your great news, and perfectly timed for the holidays!
Here's a link to a wonderful video of the Savior's birth with music from "the piano guys" playing "O Come, Emmanuel" on Mormon.org. I think you'll really like it, Malinda

And I hope you're feeling better, Susan and Ray, and finding some sunshine peaking through the clouds every now and then. Love to you and yours!

TallM - What wonderful wonderful news. It is just so nice to hear that you have such great reports. It just makes my day to know of the miracles happening in your life. Wonderful Wonderful.

I met with my OT today and my new compression sleeves are here. New threads! So for starters I'll wear it about 4 hours a day, and during exercise and when flying.

Thanks for joining our thread, Chris! I join Ray in welcoming you. Please feel free to post anything that's on your mind so we can cheer with you and cry with you and help in any way. Our common bond on this thread that trumps cancer is our faith in Jesus Christ and knowledge that He's keenly aware of all our troubles and sorrows, has felt them all, and offers the kind of peace and comfort to get us through every one of them. I noticed that many of our BCO sisters are giving you support and understanding right now as you begin your journey. They'll bless your life as new friends with valuable information, experience and empathy. You're on my mind and in my prayers, Chris.
Here's to a new year filled with blessings, small and great, that we'll recognize and be grateful for
-
Dear Ray--I'm pulling for you with this new bump (lump) in the road, knowing that 80+ percent of them are benign. I wish I lived closer to you, dang it! It's the pits, not being able to pop in on you and give you a hug and take you out for a treat. You know you're always in my prayers--always! Thanks for showing your faith in all you do and being a strong and righteous example to the young women in your ward that you serve. Lots of guardian angels looking out for you, especially those who helped guide Jacob into your life. They knew he belonged in your home at this time. It was all part of the Lord's plan, you know
Let's get our super hero capes on and get our shields up for what ever mortality sends our way! Love you, Ray!
-
Ha! I KNEW my "radar" was right! I felt like someone had posted on our thread, and low and behold it's our Ray-of-Sunshine
You were a trooper today to put up with that dumb biopsy, but I'm glad your Dr. opted to do it, just to make sure. Hope you're feeling better...with a little help from some meds. We're all pulling for you, dear Ray, that everything will work out in this new challenge.Just finished teaching piano and now doing dinner as I type (reheating left over chicken tortilla soup is easy). We just might have Family Home Evening tonight with both my kids home--wow! Jake is playing basketball and Anna is busy with a Spanish project. Mark is typing a report and I'm playing on the computer after a long day of buying a billion piano books and teaching. Our family really needs to cut loose and play a game together (after some scripture reading and a song
What games do you play with family? Does anyone have a favorite board game or card game? I know we love "Apples to Apples" and "Scrabble."Hope you're doing better, TallM, Susan, and everyone else on this thread who're trying to stay as healthy as possible in this really cold winter. Here's a funny video, making fun of how wimpy us Californians are with this current "cold snap" weather we're just not used to.

Enjoy and have a good laugh at us weirdos on the left coast, all you Midwesterners and Easterners!

I just lost a HUGE post, hitting a dumb key on my lap top--D'oh! Didn't put it in Word first like I usually do, then paste it in the post box. Gotta get moving and work on some music for our youth program in church, so I'll try to post again on Sunday. Congrats to you, Ray, on your wonderful news and for being close to the end of one of your jobs--double yay!!!! (pom-poms waving at you!
Blessings to all, and have a safe and happy weekend!
-
happy to hear your scare was ok Ray. I read occasionally and I keep you all in my prayers.
I am hanging in there, but it is tuff sometimes. I am on chemo for the rest of my life and the mind games we play with ourselves are a bit annoying, but that's life. I have applied for disability but I will still work a touch. I can work a little and still get it so that's good. Sorry I am not on this much but I need to do other things to keep my mind occupied and not focused on cancer. So I am going to start bow and arrow lessons..lol I thought that that is out of the box enough to make me focus on something else. And my hubby and I our going to take dance lessons, he is real bad, so that will be quite humorous, and I will think up some more fun things. Hope all are doing well. Haven't heard at all from TallM. does anyone know if she is well????Our anniversary is Tues, tomorrow, 31 years, cool huh???? we will go to a movie and dinner. Last year we were in Cancun for our 30th, wish I was there now. It's in the single digits here now. burrrrr
I will check in again sometime
hope this thread keeps going, you are a great bunch !!!!!Ray, how is "momma Ray " Hope you feel better soon from the flu. How is Jacob???

My son Bryce plays the trumpet at BYU. I think he's pretty good, he plans to perform and teach on the University level. He had a recital last week, and dedicated a song to me. This is a song I played in college, and when he was little. I didn't know until he played this that he noticed it. And now learned it and played it and dedicated it to me. So I share it with you....
Here's the link

Susan! Glad you posted and updated us with your many new ventures! I'm excited for your archery and dance lessons. My husband is NOT a Fred Astaire, that's for sure, but I lovedto dance and hope to take lessons with him in the next life (we tried years ago already and it went....well....it just went!
Malinda is on facebook so I keep in touch with her sometimes and see that she's doing fine. Ray loves being a busy mom, and I think Jacob is doing well, too. Keep living your life with all that positive energy you always show in your posts. Sure love your sense of humor and appreciation of anything that makes you smile
-
PS Susan, with your new archery skills, we should dub you our official "Cupid" for the month of February

-
Joanne, let's make sure I dont shoot my feet first..lol
-
-
Ray....Talk to your doctors about the insurance question. They should be able to make a case for the insurance, particularly the surgeon.
-
Hello, and happy Sabbath to all!
Dear Ray--your homemade potato soup made me salivate, thinking about it! I'm sure it was scrumptious and possibly unfroze your "popscicle toes"! (That's the name of a song by Michael Franks, WAAAAY before your time!) Hope your desires for surgery are considered and you have an advocate on your side.
I subscribe to The Mormon Channel on facebook and wanted to post this sweet video. It was our last Sunday for lessons in Young Women about the Godhead. I thought this video was perfect, showing the parallels of earthly fathers and our Heavenly Father. I guess I should've waited to post it in June, near Father's Day, but I just couldn't wait and had to share it with you, now. The children in it are adorable!

Take care and hope everyone is staying warm and cozy, physically and spiritually.
-
Uh-oh, Ray. Hope he doesn't break out too badly. What I'm really hoping for, though, is that YOU don't get the pox. Please take care of yourself and tell your Dr. that you've been exposed. He/she may have some advice for you. More prayers coming your way!
I'm teaching the Young Women class this Sunday and will be using this video as part of the lesson on "The Plan of Salvation." It's quite touching and I think will help the girls see how important this plan is for us, created by our Heavenly Father and implemented by His son, Jesus Christ. Hope you catch the spirit of it and feel the incredible joy, even through sorrow, that this young man has experienced:
