Omeggo - I play flute in our church 30-ish piece orchestra. I took it up 5 years ago after not playing for 20 years. It helped me keep going through chemo & rads, had to stop for surgeries. Of course, a cold/flu will keep me home too. You get better -- glad your fever broke.

Sending well wishes to Ommego and AnnAlive. Hope you are both feeling much better very soon!

Firework how are you? Hope everything went smoothly for you at Moffitt.

I was really hoping to be able to make it next Thursday, but it is not going to work out for me.  I know I will be missing out on a good time!  I will look forward to the next get together.  Have any dates/places been thought/talked about?

Zappons, welcome to a great group of ladies.

Omeggo and AnnAlive, what do you play? I play violin in Lakeland's Imperial Symphony. We are all volunteers, mostly music teachers (not me though). When is the next get together? I've been busy and haven't been onthe boards!

We are a musical bunch too! I'm an oboe player.  Actually a professional, though I'm not that active, so at times I wonder if I can even say that anymore.  In any case I have degrees in performance and used to play principal oboe in an orchestra in Germany, and then played in Sarasota.  My career as a full time player was only about 17 years long.  Then I switched to having an oboe reed business and have been doing that since 2002.

My fever was up again last night but it broke again and now it is normal.  I still dont feel very well and strangely, where I had surgery (BMX with direct implant recon.) it hurts.  Feels like it did two months ago.  Surgery was three and a half months ago. It has been really great until this virus.

My recent gigs have been a godsend.  I have some next week and I really hope I can pull it off. Playing the oboe really takes a lot of physical energy...of course maybe all instruments do when we want to play them well, but we have to use an enormous amount of air speed and force it through an aperture which is pretty tiny.

That's why oboe players turn red when we play.  We are famous for it.

Have a nice day today.  I'll try to be nice to my DH.  I've been a total crab the last few days.

Used to play the Trombone in junior high school.  LOL  Couldn't properly read music though so would have to mark the sheet music with the slide positions.  teehee

I'm affraid that the extent of my musical ability is turning on the radio or popping in a cd!  When I was a kid I tried the piano for a couple of years and then the guitar, but I was not good at either. I am more artistic than musical.  I admire those of you who do have musical talent.

Shells -- next get-together info is at top of the page in MondaysChild edited original post. I play flute in Victory Church, Lakeland, orchestra, which is mostly volunteer. Do you live in Lakeland? Maybe you know Candy, who is a violinist, was in Imperial Symphony but she quit I think, and isn't with us any more either. We have a guest flutist named Whitney, from Imperial Symphony, on occasion -- maybe you know her?

My cold/flu thing is getting worse, so I already cancelled playing in church in the morning -- and I was looking forward to the start of the Christmas music, "Joy to the World" and all that. Staying home and playing the practice CD is just not the same.

Omeggo, our only oboist also plays saxophone -- can't image switching between those. I didn't know there was such a thing as an "oboe reed business." What a niche!

I'm with FlWarrior - I greatly admire those who CAN create good music.  Me?  I absolutely LOVE to sing but don't do it well.  Do I care?  Not one whit.

Thanks for asking. The resident scheduled me for an ultrasound guided aspiration of the fluid build up.....that appt is scheduled for the 4th meanwhile, my rgt b gets completely red, hot and more swollen so I called in and lucky for me my Dr has made it back to the USA and can see me!

We saw her yesterday. Y'all ( drawn out ) my Dr didn't have a clue that she'd signed any paperwork sending me back to work, nor did she agree with the dx the resident gave...NOR did she understand why I was quoted the " policies" so often. She basically said, I'm the Dr I make the decisions and you're not ready to go back to work! Also, this is a hematoma, there's nothing to aspirate because right now it's just gel. We watch my T cell ( white ) counts, stay on antibiotics and hope the body absorbs it naturally.........So, to all well meaning back up staff, back off! Let the Dr READ what she's signing and don't make treatment predictions! Whew, my issues are solved. Whose next?

I'll get there when I can on the 6th.  I wasn't even thinking when the Dentist scheduled me to have the permanent crown put in at a 5pm appt that day.  At least I'll already be in South Tampa though.  Cool

Sorry gals, Thursday is DH's good day off (the other one he spends sleeping, works 3rd shift) so I reserve that day for him. Have a great time though, I'll be thinking of you!

Ann, yes I know Candy, she used to give my daughter viola lessons! I play in ISO in the 2nd violins. She was our section leader for awhile but does other things now. She is a great lady! I live in Winter Haven.

Omeggo, oboe is awesome, but I know what you mean about turning red. It is a difficult instrument, either sounds really good or really bad! Glad you are getting some gigs. That is always nice around the holidays.

Lee, my old one broke off about the week of our last get-together.  It died in the month of it's 19th birthday.  That thing had longevity!

Because of the surgeries this past year, it was decided by the Dentist to go with the root canal and crown instead of an impant with a crown.  I agreed with her.  Used the old crown twice as a temporary until this last time - it just wouldn't fit any longer.

By the time I get this done it will have been about one month total for the entire job.  It will be nice if there's no need to numb things up but we shall see.  :)

We'll save a seat for you, GalSal! Yay, Lee--glad you can make it too. Firework, sounds like you are back in good hands.

I just got back from taking my kids to the 97X Next Big Thing concert. I don't know what the HELL I was thinking, LOL!! I would have worn combat boots instead of flipflops if I knew a mosh pit was going to break out in front of us. We had fun, but I had to go into mama bear mode to protect my cubs. (And we are lucky that my husband did not get arrested.) Surprised

Hi All.  I have a question.  I'm recovering very slowly from this awful virus. My cough has finally loosened up, no fever anymore, etc.  But (and here's my question) my implants hurt a lot!  I guess it is under the implants, really.  Does anyone have any understanding as to why I'd be in such pain there?  I'm going to call my PS tomorrow and ask his nurse.  My guess is that there is inflammation and that those layers of collegen and new tissue became raw, and sort of attacked with the virus.

It feels like it did two months ago.  Very uncomfortable.

    Thanks for any input.

Hope you all will have a good Sunday.

    Omeggo,

I suspect what you are feeling is sore pec muscles.  They actually engage a lot when you cough.  Because they have been compromised and are relocated, they can get sore easily. Try some Aleve if you are allowed to take an NSAID.

Galsal, if the crown has no issue (made correctly), final placement does not take long.  No numbing needed either, especially if you have had a root canal on it.  They just glue it on and then adjust by grinding areas on the surface so that the upper and lower hit correctly and then you are done.

If the dentist runs on time, you should make 6 or not long after.  Call ahead and tell them you have a VERY important meeting at six and that you want to make sure he is running on time at 5pm :)

I have updated the list in the original post.  Let me know if I have missed anyone.

Zappons, I saw that you said you did not know if you could make it this week, and I put you down as a maybe.  Please know that you are welcome, even if last minute you find you can come or not come.

That's what I thought.  Almost got through the last part without numbing but no go near the end.  :)  Darn cat just brought in a lizard to play with!

Omeggo, You might want to go to a Dr. and have them listen to your lungs.... it could be pleurisy which is an inflammation of the lining of the chest wall that can be aggravated by coughing... so sorry you are feeling crummy.

Well, darn zappons.  Where in the area do you live?  We also meet on Saturdays when it is a good time to come in for shopping and hanging around.

Good idea about pleurisy. Or any number of things actually.  I am glad Omeggo is calling her PS office tomorrow. Always a good idea for people like us.

If you are up to it & are anywhere in my area, I'd be happy to pick you (or anyone else that needs a ride) up, zappons. I'm in Trinity (SW Pasco County).

Definitely more Saturdays, kira.  And mostly Saturdays for the larger, regular gatherings.  I am pleased and surprised the evening gathering appeals to as many as it is.

When we are together on Thursday, we will engage in a little strategery for a regular schedule.
