Kam, I talked to my PCP about my vitamin D3 level, which was low. I started supplementing with 3,000 iu/day of D3 and that got my level to over 50, which is where he wanted it. I was comfortable with 3,000 iu not being toxic and it worked for me. I don't have an onc anymore, so I just talk to my PCP about it.

Bren, I am thinking of a place that is accessible by car, bus and train and airport, and well known (not hidden in a mall or a suburb with no public transport).....maybe the Sculpture Garden - would people be attracted to an outdoor site in cold weather. Or else the National Gallery? Or the Lincoln Memorial?

Or the Baltimore zoo or Harbor??

(Seeing if we can get our Canadian and New York friends to bite....)

I so wish I was able to gather with my ole pals up in Canada today. However, my DIL just sent a picture of our lane way covered in snow. So I will be content to spend one more week in sunny Florida.

Bren, fingers and toes crossed for you!

Athena, when we sell our property we want to head your way. We will keep plans for getting together in mind!

Alexandria - hoping your MIL is feeling better. She sounds like such a wonderful person.

Athena - I too am being tested by my oncs for D levels with blood tests.  PCP was "ok" with it being at 23.  Changed PCP, but sadly they use the same lousy labs - real mistakes, so my oncs took over the blood testing.  Now that my level is up to 68, I feel ok letting he PCP do the annual tests.

Kam - I think we're all SO different about our D3 needs, really best to work closely with PCP with BLOOD TESTS to determine dosage right for you.  Took 8,000ius D3 to get me up over 50.  Was below ( 48) at 6,000ius. I take D3 ( 2,000ius) times 4, divided over the day - usually with other supplements, and food.

SO HAPPY there's a Party at Blue's - everybody take pictures.

Lassie - broken shoulder?  OUCH, OUCH, OUCH - how did I miss that???  How did you do it?  Button up the front for a while, arms at side, pulling up one side at a time..hope it heals FAST.

Athena - don't know about DC - getting there from the North ( by car, at least) is SUCH A BUMMER.  TJP. yuck.

Maybe someplace in VT - "mid way" for US, Canada???

Athena ... I would really like not to have to go into DC.  The driving and parking up there scares me.  And I get lost so easily!  I still get confused about my east and west after growing up on the west coast and now living on the east coast.  Maybe I could catch a ride with Layne in Arlington and go from there.

    hugs,

    Bren

PS ... Pip it would be fabulous to see you again!

Enjoyful and Sandy were a joy to be with.  I Love them.  My camera was out of juice so no pics from me. We went to Boston Pizza after we all made a fuss over Lilah.  I had Ravioli and am stuffed!  The girls are probably back at Sandy's.  Hoping they check in tonight.

So I know somebody who knows somebody, who knows somebody else.  What more can I say?  hehehehehehehe!

Offering my place in VT as a get together location!!  But not until things smooth out here.

Millie (my MIL) went nuts today.  She ripped out her iv and was talking total nonesense.  I did, however, get her to drink half a McDonald's milkshake and eat some of her dinner.  They were putting the IV back in when i left, and they had assigned an aide to stay in her room, because in her addled state of mind, she keeps trying to get out of bed, and she'll fall.  The nurse told me not to give up hope, so I won't, but it's difficult. My poor husband has to finish a project for his job over the weekend, which is a struggle even without his Mom's situation.  He ran over to the hospital with me when she first pulled out the iv and started throwing ice cream, but then he had to come back and go to work.  It's almost 8:30 here and he's still working.  thanks for all the good wishes, everyone.

Bren, fingers and toes crossed for the job.

Lassie - so sorry about the shoulder.  Just what you needed.

Blue, Enjoyful, Sandy - envious for your get together.

Alexandria - when I hear your MIL's story, it somewhat reminds me of several of my friend's and their elderly mothers while convalescing.  I'm not making assumptions, at all, about your MIL's current medical situation, but I do know in all three of their cases, antibiotics plays real havoc with the very elderly, especially their mental states.  Getting enough fluid and monitoring nutrition is very important too.  One friend said the NY Times (within last year) had a good article on the antibiotic topic, but she could never find it again.  Maybe it's worth looking at or perhaps you are already aware of this problem.

Vermont!  What a lovely place to live.

Sunny - thanks for the dosage suggestions on the D3.

Alexandria, so sorry about your MIL, I know how upsetting and terrifying it is. But I'd echo Kam's comments about many drugs (and also many common conditions, like UTIs) having a dramatic effect on the mental functioning of the elderly. For that matter, just being hospitalized can be terribly disorienting.

My good news is that I'm just coming from a totally delightful dinner with our totally delightful chaplain (Bren, we're both here in Chicago). Even though the chaplain is not a brusselsprout fan (gasp!), she agreed to take one for the team, and we shared a roasted Brussels sprout appetizer.

Heading to the airport now for an early morning flight back home.

Hi guys, yes, let me confess that I am not a Brussel Spouts fan. although I must admit the appetizer was nice and some came with my entree, which were tasty. I know it's an aquired taste and I'm up to the challenge.

It was great seeing Linda and Katie again and meeting Eric. He is wonderful and delightful and I'm so happy for he and Linda. Winter has come to the midwest and I'm igging out the heavy duty clothes.

Hoping everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I figured I added on a few pounds that Sophie the Torture Goddess trainer will delight in beating off of me.

I can offer our chincoteague island condo for a get together as long as it is before June which is the beginning of our rental season. We can sleep 9 if we share beds or 5 if we don't. Once here all shops and restaurants are close. The beach is on Assateague island. It is very low key here, sort of like being in the 50's. I have friends who rent their condos so we could rent another place if we had a large # wanting to come. About 3 hours from crofton, 31/2 hours from d.c. We are on chincoteague bay. I'm there now and being near the water calms my spirit. It is nice, even in the winter!

SIGH!!!!!  I'm so sorry Alexandria that your MIL had such a bad day.  Golly, I do recall the older lady ( friend ) I help now and then struggled for a couple of days during one of her trips to the hospital.  She is an older lady and it took two people together to try and keep her partly balanced.  She actually bit the other lady....I had forgotten about the possibility of harsh drug reactions.  I hope it eases off as my friends did.

Lassie....gee.  Somehow I missed the broken shoulder too.  Definitely going to have to quit sleeping on the job.

Glad for the gals getting together.....it is good for the spirit.

Glenna....water is a very spiritual thing....soothing and calm.  The years I lived in California ( about a mile from the beach ) I often would sit on the beach and every time a wave would leave the shore.....I would put two or three of my problems on it......and watch it till it was so far on the horizon that the problems could never get back.

Had a wonderful day - now officially exhausted - Enjoyful asleep in the next room - she's leaving early tomorrow (if it doesn't snow).  We had a wonderful visit with Blue - got to see Lilah and Ray (of sunshine) - ate way too much - then this evening we went to see Lincoln - terrific Daniel Day Lewis - good movie.  All in all a great weekend - wish we could see one another more often.  Really sorry about Lassie - sending her a hug and hopes for a speedy and painless recovery.

So, posting that comic apparently killed my internet. It was worth it.

It came out too big on my screen. Maybe the mods can fix it.

It was so sweet of my son to give that to me. My kids have not talked much about my cancer and it takes something like this or my daughter crying when she told me her college roommate had BC for me to really know how much they were affected.

Beautiful day in the neighborhood...sun is shining and I think only today left to blow leaves.  Dh wore the old back pack leaf blower and had to go get another one to be able to finish.  Anything in the yard after today will stay there till Spring.  Going to be in the 50's today....a heat wave.  I've a ton of work to catch up on as I worked yesterday.  Usually don't work on Saturday --- I'll feel cheated going back tomorrow, but its all ok.

Hope you all have a gorgeous Sunday.  I'll be checking in when I take a break.
