Tampa area BCO sisters get togethers

Hi everybody!  All is well here today, Saturday.  I hope those of you having to (or even wanting to) brave all that retail stuff yesterday have maintained your inspiration of humanity...I am a terrible 'consumer' i.e. I am not a shopper, at all, can't stand ads of any kind, etc.  If it all weren't so 'capitalist' I'd say it was a government conspiracy...this is all tongue in cheek, of course. 

But I actually have a question for you today.  My DH is coming down with what might be a sinus infection or a cold.  He is very seldomly sick but today he's running a low fever, has a whopping headache and body aches, but so far, is getting plenty of TLC from me.  However, as good as I'm now feeling (day 12 of chemo #2) should I be doing anything extra, in terms of assuring I don't get his bug?  Like, should I (or he) be sleeping on the couch or something?

My bloodwork was splendid on Wed. and I feel very good, even if a little tired from my exceedingly long day yesterday.  I went to bed at midnight!  Since starting chemo, I'm usually in bed by 8 or 8:30 and last night's concert started at 8!  It was pretty amusing...and I'm glad I didn't have to play principal and it was 'only' pops but still.  My concentration sucked. Oh well, right?  Chemo brain, as minimally as I'm experiencing it, makes reading all those teeny, tiny black dots (music) on the page, more challenging.  My brain is slower, to be sure. 

Anyway, if anyone has any good tips above and beyond the obvious, please do post it.  Thanks a lot!

I look forard to the NEXT get together...will that be in 2013????  Wow.  That looks so like, futuristic, and it is only five weeks away. 

Thanks Kathy for your input.  The 'normalcy' thing is a huge deal for me, even if I am keeping things undercover with my colleagues.  I don't like doing that but it is very necessary under the circumstances.  I do get a lot of compliments on my hair...a funny irony and yes, my wig(s) do look better than my real hair, even on the best days, pre BC.  Physically and mentally everything DOES take more effort.  I probably should have accounted for that fact and practiced more...I didn't and I wasn't exactly thrilled with my performance.  Hopefully tonight I'll be a little more on the ball.  For future upcoming gigs, I will account for that and compensate (practice) accordingly.

Hi DLL -  I think I'm juggling pretty well and it's only with the timing of everything, that I need to stay undercover.  I was hired for a teaching job the week after dx, so being open about all the drama (especially then, when I was freaking out + PTSD from my childhood experience with my moms' cancer) would have cost me the job, no doubt about it.  As far as playing, in the freelance world, people come to conclusions with the best of intentions...which in all likelihood would have cost me precious connections, money, etc.  I don't freelance that much to begin with.

Last night's concert went really, really well, not only for me but especially for the brass section.  It is such a good orchestra and a pleasure to play with. It was really fun.  Got another concert tonight and that'll be it for the series.

firework - I am a longtime mil spouse so we will have that in common as well. My husband retired in '09 but works in his same job at SOCOM at MacDill. There are several others who have military connections as well!

Hi Everyone, Special K sent me a link to this group. It is my first time on this site. I just had a BMX with recon started 2 weeks ago. My head is still spinning .  Just found out yesterday that I have an invasive ER+ component that did not show up in the lumpectomy 4 weeks ago. ?!  So I have LCIS, DCIS HER2/NEU +++ which was ER/PR - and invasive ER+ .  How messed up is that?!  

Was on this site looking for some support from others who have been through some of this. Would very much like to attend one of your Get Togethers, but not sure I can make the one on the 6th!

AnnAlive:  I have that bug.  I am fairly miserable right now, had a fever of 100 - 101 for the last two days, coughing like there's no tomorrow, am on antibiotics but have found that the Tylenol with codiene has helped my cough significantly. I took it (left over from surgery in Aug.) because my jaw is so stiff and sore.  (From the Taxotere or something?  Not sure there). 

My DH had the bug and he's now doing much better.  My guess is that its course is around five days.  How long have you had it?  Mine started on Tuesday, in earnest. Good luck to you!  You will probably be ready for your trip.  Wear a mask on the plane (the kind you get at the pharmacy - I think they are called 'N-5') to make sure you don't get all of those heinous bugs among airplane passengers.  I now wish I'd worn one at home when my DH came down with the bug!  20 -20 hindsight.  Didn't even occur to me.

I will miss next week's gathering and really do wish I could make it.  It'd be a nice way to start the Christmas/Chanukah holiday time.

Hey AnnAlive, what do you play? What orchestra?  Hope you are feeling better. 

Thanks DLL.  It is really a slow recovery...but my fever finally broke last night.
