Staying far from the maddening crowd! But I am currently online looking for an iPod for my, soon to be, 13 y/o grandson. Online stores also give black Friday discounts, without the threat of being trampled!

Good morning and Happy after Thanksgiving Day or otherwise Black Friday. WR---like you I don't have a shopping gene either which makes life pretty good for me. I recall when I discovered this.....I was going to go somewhere and went out and found the perfect outfit, or so I thought. I carefully stowed it in the closet....and then came the day. I took it out, put it own and nearly cried. Color was wrong, sleeves seemed too tight and I did not even end up wearing it. What looked so good in the mirror in the try on cubicle was a total freaking disaster...........so I learned from that day forward -- you haven't got it, and your're not going to get it.
Now I am happy.....everything in my life is rather eeclectic including my furnishings. If something turns out to fit well --- it was an accident.
Yes, coffee and more coffee. Makes me think of that Mel Brooks movie.....can't recall the name, but there was a scene with Cloris Leachman ( Nurse Rachett ) and she was always saying more coffee and pouring it then. High Anxiety????? Can't recall but extremely funny then. Mel Brooks was a comedy genius to me.
Lots of good news on Morning Joe. Dh ( since he works at Sears ) had to be at work at 2:30 a.m. this morning...so did not have to 'hustle' around and could just sit back and enjoy for a change. Makes it a lot easier not to miss good portions. Dh will be getting off work about 2 p.m. A long 12 hours for him, but sometimes the paychecks are good. Overall, I'm thinking the sale is not as good ( big doorbuster things ) as they normally had before. Like half price on fancy appliance ( Dh's dept ) but once you have people in the 'habit' they will come.

I'm at work today, so staying safe from hordes of insane shoppers. As I have aged, I have grown exponentially less patient with people in large crowds. Not going there! Even on regular shopping days, we get up early and get to the stores. Not going to a big-box store at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon unless it is a life-or-death matter!
The only thing I am interested in getting are some 50% off calendars at Barnes and Noble after Christmas. I just need one for my office wall and one for my desk (I like the Ansel Adams ones). And since I am retiring next year, I won't even need those after this year! (When things are not good at work, I comfort myself with "This is my last day" -- as in "This is my last day after Thanksgiving to work." It works beautifully!)
And if I really need something, there is always the interwebz and the googlemabob!

HL, that's how I survived my last 3 yrs of work. Since I worked in a school system, I would mentally "jump" from one break to another. It does help get one through the day!
-
I'm another one not shopping today. I can't take the crowds. Grandkids spent the night last night. DH had to leave just after 8:30 this morning to take one home. Dear son-in-law just left with the other two so I am kicking back and relaxing with a cup of tea and the intertubes.

Outside? This morning? harrumph...must be kidding - still cozy in my Lanz Flannel Nightgown & Polertec robe..drinking tea, watching the geraniums on the INSIDE window sill blooming in the south facing windows, FULL SUN. Lovely day. Geramiums ( ivy leaf, delicious almost lavender colour) are happier inside than they were outside in their clay pots. Still in same pots, but definitely happier inside. Cyclamen all in bloom, Christmas Cactus was a Halloween Cactus this year, but some flowers left. Waking up last year's amaryllis...we'll see. I haven't been very successful getting more than 1 year of bloom.
Happy RESTFUL day to all....

Shopping today? Nope, not me.

I try to factor in the savings vs how much my time and sanity are worth. It always ends up that I avoid big sales.
Two grandchildren here overnight are much more fun.

Not going shopping, but I am going to work!! Today is not a holiday
As far as shopping, I have to travel 85 miles to even start, but I still feel like I'm recovering from BC (treatments) and I'm good for about 2-3 hours on my PN feet (barely). Ironlcally, I wouldn't mind getting a BF treadmill...unless one ends up on my porch for free or nearly so. Doesn't everyone have a treadmill they want to give away these days? -
Buy treadmills used from private parties. I got one that tracks speed, distance, pulse rate, and calories burned for $50 a couple of years ago. I even use it (occasionally
). -
Notself - I have everyone on the lookout and watching Craigslist, but living rural (small population) puts me at a handicap.....lots of hot tubs happen this way around here, though.

Blue, I LOVE that picture!
I think I inherited two copies of the female shopping gene. I would be happiest if I could go shopping every single weekend to my heart's content. It would be: clothes, clothes, more clothes and furniture and more furniture, but if it's something utilitarian, like a garbage can, I won't spend more than $10. My television set is from 1998, I am of two minds about replacing it as I like my technology to not clash with my color schemes....but my wallet cost $540. Typical, inpractical woman, in the old fashioned sense!
I once placed a ficus tree in front of a mirror because the effect was lovely - never mind that I lost the ability to use the mirror. I feel happiest when I am surrounded by bueaty, which I require as much as I do the oxygen we breathe.
I think the day you see something eminently practical in my house you will know I have married and that the man was behind it.
I am a fashion maven (I will say it is in my blood line) - more in spirit than in action these days. Should have worked on Wall Street instead of toiling away at a non profit.

My feminine gene does NOT do the following:
I don't go for girlie sentimentality or movies ("chic flicks") or girlfriend conversations about boys or group pedicures. None of that.
However, I am avoiding Black Friday and do not like to shop with huge crowds either. Off from work today, no internet, so writing from my local library.
Have a restful day, everyone!

MY WORD - I wanna see a pic of that wallet
Hermes? Mulberry ( my FAVORITE) - can't imagine, not when I lk at my little brown Timberland one
Now, Missoni prints - let me at'em! Delicious, LOVE LOVE LOVE "fashion" - even if I live in black pants & easy shirt tops.
Kam - PN. Yuck. Didn't remember that. It was my oncologists who suggested acupuncture when my feet were REALLY back just after chemotherapy and early Arimidex. Don't think my situation would have the "P" - cuz it's about gone from feet, still in hands, but nothing like it used to be. I sound like a broken record, I know
but have you considered acupuncture?Shopping - isn't that what computers are for?
-
No BF shopping for me ... Hate the crowds, waiting in line, pushing, bumping, jostling, grabbing .... Just not worth it. DH helped me get things out of the attic and I got the tree put together with lights on it and he got the outdoor lights and wreaths up. We're both exhausted but feel good about all we accomplished. Will be eating leftovers from yesterday and having a glass of wine very soon!
-
Guess who's getting a lot of attention? Poor thing is missing her Virg. She keeps looking for him! Today she got the works, plus a new sweater and toy. Wonder why her eyes look so funny! They are amber/green.

No shopping for me. If you can't find a parking space, you know you shouldn't be out. We went into the mountains for a night in a lodge, a dinner, and a little hiking, but came home this morning earlier than planned because DH is suffering from a sinus infection, courtesy of long travel to Central Asia for a few weeks. But it's a pretty day, if chilly, and I'm content to be home to watch basketball on TV and do some Pilates practice.
Don't think I'll even shop on line today.
Yorkiemom, tell me honestly, how IS that tofurkey? I've never been tempted to try it, but I'm willing to at some point!

Such a sweet little lady, Princess Lilah!
Crazy flash does crazy things to animal lenses.........
And just to make you all (y'all?) jealous, Enjoyful is here and spending the night with us -- woohoo!
-
I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago. Just got my explanation of benefits in the mail, and the whole thing was covered 100% because it was preventative care! I love the AHA-last time I had one, I paid 20% of the cost out of my own pocket.

Athena, I love beauty around me too. Ray got me these for my b/d a couple years ago.

Yes, master ensuite. Us Lazy Liberals shouldn't work so hard for what we have!
-
Mary - what grreat news. yes, Obamacares is VITAL for all of us. I'm so happy people are starting to reap the benefits. Having bc is enough, knowing the rest of our preventative care is now covered makes me smile - for myself AND for all who will benefit from it.
Still keeping my eye on Planned Parenthood, and ready to ACT if they are threatened. WOMEN need health care.

Home from work....went a bit overtime but that's ok. Dh started work this morning at 3 a.m. and got home about 3 p.m. today.......no wonder I don't shop. Blue love the pictures.....even if I don't have one ounce of style about clothes, art, colors, etc doesn't mean I can't enjoy others who do. Thank goodness I still get to enjoy a thing of beauty that is a joy forever.....or something of that ilk.
Dh is still on his feet.....hmmm, he must have had a nap. Anyway, I'm going to go out and get my dogs fed.....deer ambling around in my yard when I came home from work. They are so gorgeous.....one of the reasons I want to stay in my home for as long as I can....or until some greedy fool buys up the land ( I don't really think there is near enough here...I hope ) to make a subdivision.

Those panels are beautiful, Blue. Are they Maxfield Parish?
Mary

Mary, they are Mucha Prints.

Well doesn't Lady Lilah look fabulous!
-
I got her an unstuffed toy with Virgil's colours. She's cuddled up with it now and my camera ran out of juice. Sooooooo cute! Breaks my heart.
-
Lindasa, I am quite jealous. Say hi for me.

Well, I did go shopping today, with my daughter and nieces. Since we always have Thanksgiving in Chicago, it's become a tradition to hit the Msgnificent Mile on Friday. Most definitely NOT my scene, but the kids love it. The older girls did their clothes shopping last might (Urban Outfitters was one of those stores that started Black Friday at midnight, boo hiss), so today was devoted to toys for the little ones, which I find much less stressful. Actually, I found it a lot of fun, even with the insane crowds.
My feet hurt, though.

I just noticed what happened next door. For the record twas not me!
