I think it would be great if Susan Collins became minority leader.  Chances are probably not good, though, esp. if proposed by left wing commies like Move-On. Wink

Just noticed the above this morning.  Of course I rather felt that way the minute McConnell made his special "plea" to the House.  Definitely not what these people are elected for --- and if you do not wish to fulfill your 'office' obligations...imho you should step down and give way to someone who will do what they were voted into office to do.

McConnell is not only a disgrace to the government, but is a very distasteful individual.  He should not only be replaced but barred from all the benefits of his service.

    From Addicting Info:

Nearly a third of votes cast in Arizona remained uncounted the day after the election. Most of them were probably cast by Latinos, organized and newly registered by multiple civil rights groups in the state to combat candidates like the notorious Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio.

On Thursday, the Secretary of State, Ken Bennett, announced the figures: 631,274 early and provisional ballots remained uncounted out of a total of 1.8 million votes. At least 350,000 of them are from Maricopa County (Phoenix metropolitan area), where Joe Arpaio has already claimed victory.Activist Randy Parraz, president of Citizens for a Better Arizona, told the Huffington Post, “We’re not conceding anything until every vote is counted. They’re just going to act like, ‘Oh, the election’s over, Arpaio wins.’ Hell no.”

Three Congressional races also remain in limbo. Although Democrat Rich Carmona originally conceded the Senate seat to Jeff Flake on election night, he changed his mind after hearing the unprecedented number of uncounted votes. On Friday, he sent this message to supporters: “We will take every necessary step to make sure all of our supporters’ ballots are counted.” Two U.S. House races are also too close to call until the remainder of the votes are tallied. Protestors from a coalition of rights groups are maintaining a continuous presence outside of the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center. In a letter to the county recorder, Helen Purcell, the American Civil Liberties wrote that the “public confidence in the voting process” was at risk.

The situation has attracted attention all across the nation. Saturday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid weighed in, issuing a statement of his concern: “All of the votes in Arizona must be counted promptly, accurately and equally. The uncounted votes in Maricopa County alone represent a major portion of the total votes cast in Arizona on Tuesday.” He also pointed out that this problem occurs just as the Supreme Court is ready to consider whether the voter protections in 1965′s Voter Rights Act should be scaled back. Specifically, the justices are being asked to rule that the part that prevents states from disenfranchising minorities is no longer relevant.

IllinoisLady, I like the idea of that MoveOn petition.

Lindasa, that is appalling.  I wish the media would give this some attention.

Some interesting pieces I've run across in my Sunday morning reading:

The tail end of a piece quoting Jim Daly, the head of Focus on the Family:

“Frankly, after the election, I felt sorry for President Obama in one respect: He's got a tough job,” Daly said. “We need to pray for him, as the Christian community. I mean ... I think President Obama needs divine guidance.” He stressed that he did not mean that in a condescending or sarcastic way.

“I'd say the same thing about Mitt Romney,” he said. About Obama, he added: “We have these differences and they're deep, but in reality, he's simply a human being. ... If a Christian holds that back and he or she isn't willing to pray in that way, they're not living a Christian life in that regard. If hatred or anger has built up to that level, then they're missing the Gospel of Christ.”

    more at link: http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-focus-family-jim-daly-20121109,0,230022.story

A Heritage Foundation video put out before the election which shows their thoughts on compromise (the comments are great)  The statement with the youtube: "The election is over, but the campaign isn't. President Obama's reelection means we conservatives have to redouble our efforts to fight big government and stop any liberal advance.":

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=p7D0d7ztLY0

And a diary over at DailyKos that had me giggling, and wondering if any of these pundits would take a pay-cut, 'Ouch! Ten Pundits Who Took One Right in the Crystal Balls.'

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/11/1160350/-Ouch-Ten-Pundits-Who-Took-One-Right-in-the-Crystal-Balls?detail=hide

Edited to try to make it clear that the quote with the Heritage video is their quote, not one of the comments.

Hahaha -- Coulter gets "disinvited' again!

Fordham College Republicans disinvite Ann Coulter, apologize for inviting her in the first place

The comments from the college president are also very much worth reading, they are at the link as well.

    http://blogs.ajc.com/get-schooled-blog/2012/11/10/ann-coulter-vs-the-jesuits-a-college-invite-is-rescinded/?cxntfid=blogs_get_schooled_blog

From the College Republicans late Friday:

The College Republicans regret the controversy surrounding our planned lecture featuring Ann Coulter. The size and severity of opposition to this event have caught us by surprise and caused us to question our decision to welcome her to Rose Hill. Looking at the concerns raised about Ms. Coulter, many of them reasonable, we have determined that some of her comments do not represent the ideals of the College Republicans and are inconsistent with both our organization’s mission and the University’s. We regret that we failed to thoroughly research her before announcing; that is our error and we do not excuse ourselves for it. Consistent with our strong disagreement with certain comments by Ms. Coulter, we have chosen to cancel the event and rescind Ms. Coulter’s invitation to speak at Fordham.

We made this choice freely before Father McShane’s email was sent out and we became aware of his feelings – had the President simply reached out to us before releasing his statement, he would have learned that the event was being cancelled. We hope the University community will forgive the College Republicans for our error and continue to allow us to serve as its main voice of the sensible, compassionate, and conservative political movement that we strive to be. We fell short of that standard this time, and we offer our sincere apologies.

RR and lindasa --- I have to re-read as usual.   Takes time for 'materials' to sink in, but have to say well done to Fordham College.  Glad to read the college President's speech as he did uphold the ideals of the school, while as well making it very plain how he views Ms. Coulter.  Also glad of her cancellation which probably won't move her much.  Maybe she can just go spend that time with Sarah Palin or something.

Blue, we put our flag out this morning and now I love seeing your little fellow saluting our vets.  To any veterans reading here, "thank you for your service."  I mean this deeply.

Lindasa, the piece you linked to gives me hope.  The two parties have real policy differences that need to be discussed and the media needs to play a part in that, needs to present the policy differences.  Those that merely call names and incite hate and conspiracy theories need to be set aside.

Linda - your comment above is noted.  If someone answers an argument with a question (probably meant as a rhetorical one, since we know they don't like facts), but the actual answer to that question refutes their argument, what is one suppose to do?  I see that all of the time, the latest one about bilingual ballots.  So much is available on the web vis a vis US Citizenship Requirements and the Voting Rights Act, they might be suprised that their argument falls apart once facts are introduced.

Must be an emotional thing.  Speaking from feeling can bring such relief ( I can sure vouch for that ) and release some of what is seen as negative......but not based in facts and truth, the person speaking may feel somewhat better for a bit but nothing will change.......square one remains square one and no opportunity for the most part to move on to a more realistic and healthier place.  People must be willing to look for the
REAL truth and work with it.  It is the only thing that will have an effect.  It will in fact set you free in so many ways.

I think some people confuse a (not even great) social safety net in a capitalist country as socialism. Perhaps a study of the various political structures might be helpful.

Obama won in a landslide - the Senate, that had twice as many Dems as Repubs on the line, gained 2 seats, when early predictions had them not holding on to the Senate.  Thus far, Dems have gained seats in the House - more to come.

Now Lindsay Graham is changing his tune on immigration.

Bill Kristol said it wouldn't hurt to raise taxes on millionaires.

Their leaders are slowly getting it.  Waiting for more....the rest will eventually fall, or their Party will just disappear.

Lassie - we almost said the same thing! (I just said it elsewhere.)  I learned about world governments in my senior year of high school.  The teacher appointed me her assistant to help her read term papers.  Based on that experience, it's not surprising to me that so many women (all girls school, so I can say that), even those privledged with the potential of a good education, have grown up and still don't know the difference between an economic and political system.  Something interfered with their motivation to learn then, and apparently now.

Very pertinent FB meme - I can't find it to post here, but it said:

Remember -- you are not the jerk whisperer.

That could be adapted in this case as: "Remember -- you are not the idiot whisperer."

You cannot help the wilfully ignorant. For them, YouTubes = education, Faux Noise = truth, and Rush Limbaugh = oracle. Frankly, I hope they keep on keeping on ... Just that many more seats in the House for us in 2014!

And apparently, not knowing the difference between Socialism and Communism can now be extended to not knowing the difference between a Fact and an Opinion.

Chickadee - lol, yes, snagging a rich husband.  I was just thinking about those girls that spent time looking in the mirror, rather than their world history books, and you are right, it was mostly about their drive to snag a man.  Funny how those hormones get you coming or going.

The election is over, but the differences continue. To maintain peace in the community, we're repeating our pre-election instructions and telling you to NOT post on the "Mirror" thread. That includes posting and deleting, and posting to answer "questions." To maintain your own peace of mind, just not reading there would make a lot of sense.

Kam, I saw the nonsense from Applebee's, Papa John's Pizza and Darden Restaurants. What part of "majority" do they not understand? A majority of the voters in this country gave a resounding yes to the President's policies. So, they don't want to play ... Plenty of other places to eat. (And they clearly don't have any concept of capitalism, the free market, and the labor market, either.)

Geez, if folks on the Mirror thread don't want us answering their questions, perhaps they shouldn't ask us.  (Which would make sense, since they ignore everything factual and go on repeating their preconceived opinions anyhow.)  But it's kind of low for them, in my opinion, to then challenge us for NOT answering their questions . . . when they're the ones who complain to the mods about us posting there.  My head is spinning.

Time to tuck into some seafood stew and drink white wine.  Maybe then my head will be spinning in a GOOD way.
