    Results are coming in....what's wrong with Indiana?  I dont know much about that state, but boy are the politics weird.

    VA too close to call...not sure if they're doing a lot of extrapolating, right now, with votes.

     So glad for all the good news from all the testing going on.

    DH and I voted about 11:30 and it was pretty much in&out. My polling place is at a church with LARGE friendship hall,but they had everyone bunched together instead of spreading it out & about,giving everyone some room,including the pollworkers all scrunced in.

     At Christmas, when my 20yr GD was 6, I bought her a Lanz and matched it up with one for me.  We were able to get matching pictures for 2 years at the fireplace with Santa's cookies & milk.

     May we all have our hopes come true tonight and not have to go through the crap of the Florida vote of days gone by.

     Has anyone heard from Bren? It seems she hasn't been in for a bit. She didnt think the storm would effect her, but maybe it did?

     Prayers to all who have been affected by the Hurricane and hoping this new system coming in doesnt do anymore damage.

    Welcome to my world, Kam. I'm surrounded by family and friends who vehemently dislike Obama. My Mom's excuse is the abortion issue. I'll be frank - I don't like it myself, but haven't walked in the shoes of those who've had one. I told Mom it's more than a single issue for me, because there are a LOT of things to like about Obama, but she's having her head filled with hate and lies by other family members, friends, and church. I had a woman at work ranting about "welfare queens" the other day. I beat my head against the wall trying to correct wrong info, but I think it mainly boils down to most people in the state (esp. outside the big cities) being predominantly WASPs afraid of change, afraid of other beliefs, religions, skin colors. The state is getting less white and some people are in a complete panic about being "taken over", i.e., having to consider something other than the way it's always been. They're afraid and are being used by cynical political and religious people whipping up their fear and hate. And it's exhausting for anyone who doesn't buy into that mentality. [rant over]

    ETA: Indiana was a KKK stronghold for years, including the little town I grew up in, Linton. Other than the NA family next to us (who I didn't realize weren't "white"), I never even met or talked to someone who wasn't white until I went to college. And... it was no big deal. Never was. I just never got why it was supposed to be such a big deal. Still haven't figured it out.

    Riley, it's funny ... People associate racial issues with the South, but the Midwest is extremely racially polarized. I am originally from Ohio and DH is from Wisconsin and we both agree that the midwest is far more polarized than the south. It sounds counterintuitive, but it is true. DH's hometown was a "sundown town" for years ... All black people had to be outside the city limits before sundown. Shocking.



    More polls closing in a couple minutes .... Fingers crossed and thumbs held!

    Home from work.....due to the rin ( it slacked off for just a bit ) I opted to get some outdoor chores done really quick....had to feed my outdoor dogs who have a heated dog house and do my oustide cats -- they have heat lamps in their screen ( plexiglass windows in place ) room, so all that was done before voting.  it was a breeze though it took about 20 mins. of waiting as people were coming in from thier work places by then. 

    I too noticed the quietness of the  neighbors......I think there is nothing left to say and the name calling at this point is rather out of place ---  I also think that despite all the bravado --- actually it comes from us as well. Put up or shut up time has come.  I shall in fact since some of the polls have or are closing as I sit here go and get jammies on and jump  in my recliner with the MSNBC crowd and see what is going on in the good ole' U.S. tonight.

    Today has been a great day and tomorow will be better.

    Hmmmm...as of 8:04 ET everything as predicted. I am surprised that VA remains too close to call.

    Honestly -Indiana - they chose Barack in 2008...they went stupid again. :-)

    MA and Missouri senatorial races still too close to call, although the dems are leading in vote count, says MSNBC.

    Glad to see Bill Nelson beat Connie Mack in Fla. The state very close for presidentials. Romney MUST win it to win the election; Obama has a few choices. I really hope FL doesn't decide the election, though. Sick of having fate hinge on GOP elections officials.

    Here is a real-time map of Virginia as county votes come in. Keep an eye on the north (Farifax and Prince William counties). Romney wins the west and south, though Obama could take the Richmond area:

    Fox News is giving NJ to Obama - MSNBC is not -yet - because voting in NJ will last until Friday due to Sandy.

    Alyson our colors used to be like that too.  One of the networks turned it around (I think it was in 2000) and it's been blue for Democrats and red for Republicans since.

    I am thrilled about CT -- that McMahon woman was something else! And the independent won in Maine - Olympia Snowe's seat. He is pro-choice and will probably caucus with the dems. It is awfully important for us to hold the Senate!
