You know, you have to wonder about all of these regressives nattering on all high and mighty about their moral compass and the moral direction this country needs to take, and

God and all that ... And then they vote for and support people who are attempting to steal this election through cheating! Where does the moral part come in if you cheer on people who have to cheat to win? It is clearly ONLY about winning for them ... Not a "new direction" for the country or "putting God back in our country" - although I am not a Christian, I feel pretty sure that anybody's god frowns on cheating to win. I'm just sayin' . . . .

Yes, all of this citing of bible verses and the supporting of Romney, as if he were a saint, while he out and out lies to Americans about Jeeps and China or his huge lie about Obama loosening Welfare requirements. I realize many of them operate on gas vapors (i.e. low information), but eventually some of this scurrillousness on the part of Romeny/Rove et al has to get through the fog of ignorance?  Oh, sorry, that assumes they run a principled life....

I posted this on FB, too. I'm in red-state Indiana. There was a black lady behind me in line who only had her FLORIDA driver's license and mail from her new Indiana address, along with the postcard they send you when you change your voter registration here. They let her cast a provisional ballot and told her to go down to the nearby BMV that's open all day today to get a picture ID card (or replacement license) and bring it back so they could verify her ballot. They were nice about it and it's good she doesn't have to wait another hour in line to vote when she gets back.

This malarkey needs to be investigated at the federal level and some people need to face criminal charges if/when they find monkey business going on.  And WTF ... some random stranger walks up to me in line and asks to see my ID they are going to be told to go pack sand.  The nice official people sitting at the table with the voting book will see my ID ... you will not.  Actually I don't think it is even legal for them to talk to me at all let alone ask for any document.

I just walked right in and voted this afternoon.  It is not fair and equal that people in other areas are having to wait in lines for hours and hours on end.  It could be set up and planned better ... somebodies just do not want to.

    In other news ...

LMAO Comedy Central, for the win.

The other thread is strangely slow today-what do you suppose that means? Not a lot of activity there-can't see anything anyway, but I thought it would be buzzing.

DH, a cop, always takes his badge and equipment when he votes. The first person who is not a pollworker who approaches him and demands to see his ID gets arrested and put in the car for transport. Any other person who violates the law while he is in the polling place by attempting to interfere with someone else's right to vote would get hooked up too. It has never happened (fortunately) but he would have no sense of humor about that. They are NOT allowed to approach you and ask to see your ID and in all the places of which I am aware that allow those types of observers, they may not address or challenge you at all. First one who does it to me will have a big problem and if DH is not there, I will be calling 911. But ... It will likely never happen to us because we are not the "profile" they are challenging. Makes me steaming angry.

You'll all still be Americans and all still in this (life, the universe, and everything tomorrow) together, tomorrow. It might help to start breathing deeply, and practicing turning the other cheek.

There is something very satisfying about being on the right side (meaning correct) of history.

They are probably rehearsing for some US GOP version of this:

Saddam claims victory in Gulf War

    KUWAIT

    January 17, 2001

Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has declared a "victory over enemies" of the Arab world during the 1991 Gulf War in an address to his country to mark the 10th anniversary of the conflict.

In a taped televised address, Saddam referred to the 33 countries which had taken part in the U.S.-led operation to oust Iraqi forces from Kuwait.

"Iraq has triumphed over the enemies of the (Arab) nation and over its enemies," he said.

"It will triumph in all the remaining rounds with the help of God because it has achieved its triumph inside its soul, its conscience, its heart and its mind."

The good things keep happening today. I picked my son up from work and asked one more time if he wanted to vote. Seeing no line at the polls he agreed. My neighbor is working the polls and I mentioned I was concerned that he would need some assistance given his Dyslexia. She jumped up and got a form where I attest to assisting only with the mechanics of using the machine and reading anything he had trouble with. Actually I didn't need to do much. He voted straight ticket and one on the other side of the aisle that was controversial here. Very proud of him and I think he felt good too.

kayfh-THIS-"You'll all still be Americans and all still in this (life, the universe, and everything tomorrow) together, tomorrow. YEAH, CHICKADEE - Happy, happy, HAPPY DANCE.  What wonderfuls news, I hope you and Stable Boy ( and NED) enjoy a l-o-n-g and happy relationship.  SUCH GOOD NEWS.

Topping on the sundae, getting to vote with your son.  JOY.  JOY.  JOY.

To whoever said, can't remember, something about "you're all Americans" - well, fine, but definitely don't want to have anything to do with the women who ATTACKED the fabuous women on this thread for SUCH a long time, let them all be happy in their "pod" - whatever planet it's on.  Voices of nonreason&Heidi's who send threatening PM's to my friends ( don't come back to 'our' thread or I'll have to call in my friend M....) no thanks, I'm thrilled to have the IGNORE button, and will be happiest if I don't have to use it to continue to read this thread.

YEAH Chickadee!!!  Three cheers for boring!

So tired.  Just spent five hours walking through working class neighborhoods in Bucks County PA to get out the vote.  Tired, but very satisfied.  I can watch knowing that I've done what I can.  And it's going to be a great night.  People are energized.

Regardless of the outcome, we must be prepared to donate to the Democratic National Congressional Committee over the next 2 years so we can take back the House of Representatives.  We need to be as active in our local Democratic Party and make certain we are qualified as poll watchers for the next elections.  This should be the last time tricks and intimidation should be a part of our election process.

Chickadee - great news - doing happy dance for you.

As for tomorrow - won't find me backing down on my principles - ain't going to happen, there's been far too much poison spewed by other people (they know who they are).

Of course I don't agree with the nastiness that goes on, nor do I think it should be forgotten. I was speaking of myself when I said I like what was said. I, personally, need to remember that life does go on no matter what happens tonight. I like to think that I can be a better person than those who harrass the people on this thread. They need to remember kayfh's words as well.

I was about to say I'm with notself - then I read what sandy posted, and I'm also DEFINITELY with sandy too.

SO happy to see how the election is going - almost ready to make a Big Bowl of popcorn ( in big pot on the stove, yea, I know it's microwaveable, but doesn't smokey up the house & SMELL as good that way) and start by watching the BBC news ( thanks to Katty Kay for being so civilized, and SMART),

My friends are counting votes tonight, I'm, well, I'm in my Lanz nightgown, Polertec booties, and SnuggleSac, does anyone remember LandsEnd snuggle sacks? I cut open the "bottom" so I can pull it up, if, ah, necessary, and it's still warm, probably fall asleep b4 results, but will check in online to read Nate Silver ;-).  Was well below freezing this am, and will be down to low 20's tonight.  Which makes me cry thinking of the people all along the middle, northeast coast with no homes, or homes with NO HEAT...

THANKS ALEXANDRIA for getting out there and doing all that work.  Hope you're feeling better too.

Still doing a happy dance for chickadee...so good to hear good news!

In the Ice Storm that hit the Ozarks in 2008, we were without power for ten days in sub zero weather.  Our water heater worked because it was gas, but the heater didn't because it needed electricity to start.  Boy was it cold.  I still shiver when I think of it.

Several pages back someone posted a link to Occupy Sandy's Amazon wish list.  One can donate directly to the people affected by the storm.  Here is the link again.  http://www.amazon.com/registry/wedding/32TAA123PJR42

Regardless of the outcome I believe we are moving, ever so slowly away from the irrational, the bizarre, the religious zealot whack jobs that are permeating far too much of our political parties, but especially the Republican Party. As this great societal experiment continues on a path to greater diversity, we need to celebrate the best and brightest of whatever political persuasion and support them into office, whether it is to dog catcher or President.

I'm really disappointed that Republican moderates continue to vote the party line rather than raise holy hell during the pre primary season when the party choices emerged. The party has slowly been hijacked from its reasonable conservatism to opportunists, like my governor, who hope to enrich themselves and their cronies at the countries expense. Thank the Bushwhackers for pushing the country down this path.

I hope we can encourage and energize the next generations to use their technology and social media to stay involved and participate, no matter how distracted and frustrated they are.

Just saying hi to you all. I read most days but haven't posted because this is your election but we too are counting on you to make the right choice. Compared to yours our elections seem very straight forward, much like Canada but we don't even have a federal system. The results are about to start coming through so will go and watch fow awhile. Remember that if you vote it gives to the right to complain about whatever government has been elected.

Welcome, Alyson - you are correct - our actions do affect the entire world, and those of us on this thread are keenly aware of our responsibilities. It's great that people from all over the world are chiming in to opine.

So....I just voted. Damned incompetent poll workers asleep at the wheel, I say! (Think of me as a crotchety old Englishman while reading that remark.) Honestly, I can't complain. It took all of about half an hour, but the people who organized things for us would have made things worse than the New Orleans dome during Hurricane Katrina if they had been responsible for Ohio. As one man muttered to himself "May as well be voting in Zimbabwe!" (Insert feighed outrage). They were very slow, and considering how crowded the room was, they should have sped things up.

They crammed us all into this little Episcopal church that is the size of someone's dining room, took ages to hand out ballots and one had to wonder around aimlessly before knowing where to drop them. Never seen such HUGE ballot papers, either - I felt like a child handing in a wall project. My little precinct has not been this crowded in the 8 years I have voted there. That is interestinbg because --for our foreign readers-- in Washington DC a republican presidential candidate has essentially zero chance of winning - it is the most democratic electoral district of all, and given our system of indirect vote, where "winner-takes-all" in each state/district, one's vote doesn't really count. So it was heartening to see so many people there considering that a presidential vote has virtually no influence.

We don't have a full vote in congress. Still, I voted for Eleanor Holmes Norton. She has worked hard for us. Didn't cast any council or ward votes - I admit I never follow local politics. But I said "YES!!!" to a proposal to disqualify felons from running for office -- which should considerably shake up DC city politics if passed, considering the slimeballs we've had in our history.

Sunflowers - Katy Kay pissed me off about a month ago, but darn if I can remember why.   A "Lanz" nightgown?  I haven't heard that brand name since my older sister insisted on "Villager" clothing, the snob she is.
