I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

You know, you have to wonder about all of these regressives nattering on all high and mighty about their moral compass and the moral direction this country needs to take, and

God and all that ... And then they vote for and support people who are attempting to steal this election through cheating! Where does the moral part come in if you cheer on people who have to cheat to win? It is clearly ONLY about winning for them ... Not a "new direction" for the country or "putting God back in our country" - although I am not a Christian, I feel pretty sure that anybody's god frowns on cheating to win. I'm just sayin' . . . .

I posted this on FB, too. I'm in red-state Indiana. There was a black lady behind me in line who only had her FLORIDA driver's license and mail from her new Indiana address, along with the postcard they send you when you change your voter registration here. They let her cast a provisional ballot and told her to go down to the nearby BMV that's open all day today to get a picture ID card (or replacement license) and bring it back so they could verify her ballot. They were nice about it and it's good she doesn't have to wait another hour in line to vote when she gets back.

No one asked for my ID this morning to vote......

The other thread is strangely slow today-what do you suppose that means? Not a lot of activity there-can't see anything anyway, but I thought it would be buzzing.

There is something very satisfying about being on the right side (meaning correct) of history.

The good things keep happening today. I picked my son up from work and asked one more time if he wanted to vote. Seeing no line at the polls he agreed. My neighbor is working the polls and I mentioned I was concerned that he would need some assistance given his Dyslexia. She jumped up and got a form where I attest to assisting only with the mechanics of using the machine and reading anything he had trouble with. Actually I didn't need to do much. He voted straight ticket and one on the other side of the aisle that was controversial here. Very proud of him and I think he felt good too.

To whoever said, can't remember, something about "you're all Americans" - well, fine, but definitely don't want to have anything to do with the women who ATTACKED the fabuous women on this thread for SUCH a long time, let them all be happy in their "pod" - whatever planet it's on.  Voices of nonreason&Heidi's who send threatening PM's to my friends ( don't come back to 'our' thread or I'll have to call in my friend M....) no thanks, I'm thrilled to have the IGNORE button, and will be happiest if I don't have to use it to continue to read this thread.

Regardless of the outcome, we must be prepared to donate to the Democratic National Congressional Committee over the next 2 years so we can take back the House of Representatives.  We need to be as active in our local Democratic Party and make certain we are qualified as poll watchers for the next elections.  This should be the last time tricks and intimidation should be a part of our election process.

Of course I don't agree with the nastiness that goes on, nor do I think it should be forgotten. I was speaking of myself when I said I like what was said. I, personally, need to remember that life does go on no matter what happens tonight. I like to think that I can be a better person than those who harrass the people on this thread. They need to remember kayfh's words as well.

Regardless of the outcome I believe we are moving, ever so slowly away from the irrational, the bizarre, the religious zealot whack jobs that are permeating far too much of our political parties, but especially the Republican Party. As this great societal experiment continues on a path to greater diversity, we need to celebrate the best and brightest of whatever political persuasion and support them into office, whether it is to dog catcher or President.



I'm really disappointed that Republican moderates continue to vote the party line rather than raise holy hell during the pre primary season when the party choices emerged. The party has slowly been hijacked from its reasonable conservatism to opportunists, like my governor, who hope to enrich themselves and their cronies at the countries expense. Thank the Bushwhackers for pushing the country down this path.



I hope we can encourage and energize the next generations to use their technology and social media to stay involved and participate, no matter how distracted and frustrated they are.

Welcome, Alyson - you are correct - our actions do affect the entire world, and those of us on this thread are keenly aware of our responsibilities. It's great that people from all over the world are chiming in to opine.

So....I just voted. Damned incompetent poll workers asleep at the wheel, I say! (Think of me as a crotchety old Englishman while reading that remark.) Honestly, I can't complain. It took all of about half an hour, but the people who organized things for us would have made things worse than the New Orleans dome during Hurricane Katrina if they had been responsible for Ohio. As one man muttered to himself "May as well be voting in Zimbabwe!" (Insert feighed outrage). They were very slow, and considering how crowded the room was, they should have sped things up.

They crammed us all into this little Episcopal church that is the size of someone's dining room, took ages to hand out ballots and one had to wonder around aimlessly before knowing where to drop them. Never seen such HUGE ballot papers, either - I felt like a child handing in a wall project. My little precinct has not been this crowded in the 8 years I have voted there. That is interestinbg because --for our foreign readers-- in Washington DC a republican presidential candidate has essentially zero chance of winning - it is the most democratic electoral district of all, and given our system of indirect vote, where "winner-takes-all" in each state/district, one's vote doesn't really count. So it was heartening to see so many people there considering that a presidential vote has virtually no influence.

We don't have a full vote in congress. Still, I voted for Eleanor Holmes Norton. She has worked hard for us. Didn't cast any council or ward votes - I admit I never follow local politics. But I said "YES!!!" to a proposal to disqualify felons from running for office -- which should considerably shake up DC city politics if passed, considering the slimeballs we've had in our history. 

Athena, felons can run for office in DC? They can't even vote here in Indiana.
