3Jays, that new unit sounds really nice. I hope you can gift your furniture to a shelter or something like that so yu don't have to deal with it all yourself.

I'm so glad to hear that Mac is all right. This storm is unlike any other we've seen in our lifetimes for sure, and the extent of hardship and suffering it's caused continues to increase.
Kathy
-
Glad she is ok after seeing the pictures and watching the news i feel so bad for those people I hope every one is safe !
-
3jays, this move is going to be good for you...we can all feel it
happy to report that we came through the storm ok, no real issues at all, even including our trailer at the NJ campground. who knows why some are hit hard and others, less than a minute away, are fine. ours is not reason why, right? my heart and prayers, like all of yours, are with the people who have been hit the hardest by this horrible storm.
love and hugs buds.
-
marle, glad you came through in good shape. Thanks for checking in.

"We are all just walking each other home." Ram Dass
-
ptd, I like that..never heard that before. I'm stealing it
-
Glad to hear the good news 3jays;
Marle I am glad you are safe. What a horrible storm, so much devastation.
QCA, your family is in my prayers - did I see on the news your area got snow?
ptd: have you heard Ram Dass speak? I think he is wonderful. Thanks for reminding me of that quote.
Hugs and warm thoughts to all
-
Glad you are okay, Mary. And L_C, we didn't have anything in my area of NC, only some snow in the mountains, so we were lucky too.

Where is everybody?? I posted last here a week ago and here I am posting again.
Very busy week for us. We had to go to Tennessee for DH's BIL's funeral (his sister just died in January) and went there and back in 2 days. It's interesting how funeral customs vary in different areas. His casket was left open during the service (here, it's closed prior to the family's entrance) and when you exited, you walked by the casket. At our church, the casket is wheeled out first. Military funerals, with the flag, Taps, and a bagpiper, are so emotional for me, so meaningful, and that's what he had.
Then yesterday we went almost to the Virginia border for a surprise 75th birthday party for DH's SIL. Didn't think we'd ever find the place, but we did and it was a nice party. So, we've really been on the road over the past week. Now, to catch up on the laundry!

I'm here, wondering where everyone is myself?
Me I have been busy stuff a shrimp up my nose. Well, not intentionally, I just thought I was wiping my nose on a paper napkin. Here is what happened. I was out to lunch with my DD for her birthday, she ordered a steak with all the trimmings. At this restaurant the trimmings included 6 shrimp. DD NEVER eats shrimp, it was just a big mistake. DD took all the shrimp off of her steak and put them on a saucer, I picked up one to sample. I bit in and didn't liuke the sauce at all and spit the shrimp out into a napkin.
Fastforward a while and I realize my nose is dripping and quick grab a napkin and shove the shrimp up my nose. I did not like the sauce up my nose any better.
I wish I had the knack of story telling. I'll depend on you to fill in the pauses and such.
Hugs GInger

Ginger, I think you had the "knack" and I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall for this one!

Forgot this--DH's other BIL, the one with Parkinson's, was found not to be a candidate for the deep brain surgery as the drs thought the risk was too great. His wife was advised to give him a smaller dosage of his medication, more often, which worked for a couple of days and decreased his falling. However, the falling has increased again so they're back to square one. I don't know how much longer his wife will be able to care for him at home by herself, but so far, a facility is not in the options.
Kathy
-
Kathy, Sorry about the BIL. Mine was scheduled to move to assisted living but a few days before he passed. He was very distressed about moving so I guess it was a blessing. Very hard on my sister though. Prayers for your family.
-
Ah Ginger, we can dress you up....
Kathy, why wasn't he a candidate??? Wasn't there an implied risk anyway? Shoot, they would have gotten their hopes up and all...
-
Thank you, ptdreamers. The BIL who died had put off having some heart surgery while his wife was alive, then had it after her death and he never went back to his home.
Barbe, the BIL with Parkinson's already has some dementia issues caused by the disease, and DH's sister said the drs thought the risk was too great that those would increase dramatically, or even that he wouldn't live through the surgery. This is all 2nd hand info, mind you. He has hallucinations sometimes, but the constant falling is what's so hard on both of them. She is determined to keep him at home as long as possible, but I know it has to be so hard on her to get him up when he falls, which he does without warning--just drops. DH's sister is 64 and BIL is 65. She thinks his condition could be a result of exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam, and it may well be.
Kathy
-
Kathy, It probably was the agent orange. My BIL had that exposure. Please make sure that have had him put on the agent orange list at veteran's and that they have applied for compensation for his parkinson's based on his his exposure. Hassle yes but they are entitled to compensation. Also remind her to call the fire department to help get him of the floor if needed. My sister had to do that a few times. Good luck to them
-
Kathy I am sorry your family is going through this. We have done far too little for our Veterans. I hope they will be able to get in a home health aid, maybe he can be more comfortable and you sis less burdened.
Hugs ginger
PS, it was a good sized shrimp too!
-
My husband is an agent orange vet...getting the disability is a pain, DAV can help too..check with the local VA, also VA medical is available. If time is of the essence you can call your US Senator's office.
-
Ginger, Every time I think about that shrimp, I laugh. I can see myself doing exactly the same thing. I would like to have a video of everyone's reaction.
-
Thanks pt, Ginger, and Lisa. BIL does get all medical care through VA medical. He also has RR retirement and I feel sure he gets VA pension as well, but I'll be sure to check with SIL for anything they might be eligible for. Lisa, I didn't know that about your husband, so thanks for sharing. BIL spent 6 or 8 years in Vietnam, not sure which since this was before DH and I met.

I LOVE my husband dearly - when he dies, dig two graves!!! BUT, his Mom died of Alzheimers and we have talked. The day that he doesn't recognize me on a regular basis is when I will get him into a home. I personally can't physically help him as he is a big guy and I know what he went through as his Mom got worse. She used to think he was her boyfriend and wondered why I was there!!! I feel that when he has reached that stage that he isn't "him" anymore. Easy for me to talk now, eh??? Hopefully he is years away still from reaching that point, but I know the signs are slight and I hope I don't notice them for a long time. He is only 62!! God bless all the women dealing with husbands that need more than they can do.....

Hi, my MIL is still fighting death at hospice. Weve been called in three times and shes still snoring. Its been quite a learning experience, reading the little book and watching her follow it. Step by step, except the last one. Everyone that wanted to has had time and taken it to love her and say goodbye. Its like labor in reverse. Shes fighting to give birth of herself into heaven. Out of this body.
Im not thinking straight, completely.
My friend in NJ, his apt was flooded and he lost most everything in the storm. But yesterday got good news. The tech place that took his computer was able to save everything on his hard drive!!! YAY. He studied photography and all his work was stored digitally. That just made me so happy! I was doing a little happy dance all by myself!
~Connie -
Connie, for your friend!
-
Connie, I'm sorry about your MIL. You and your family will get through it, and so will she, but I don't have any words to make it better. Her situation is similar to what my MIL's was, in that we were called in repeatedly, but when she died, she was alone. Happy for your friend, though. That's a miracle that everything was restored.

Connie, sometimes their hearts are just too strong to give up!! Makes it so hard for those waiting....is she "pilling" - grasping at the sheets/blankets?? Or did she go through that already.
3jays!! You got approval!! Woo hoo! If only you could wiggle your nose (genie!) and be in the new place...good luck on the move, sweetie.
