my second baby start to finish was 25 minutes...
-
WOW, Lisa! That's amazing. Don't know how a second labor would have been for me as we adopted DS, but the first labor with DD was 22 hours, and we got sent home once.
Barbe, I too don't understand why they didn't keep her. She's now about 3 1/2 cm. but the water hasn't broken. DS had said last week that he thought Tuesday would be the best day for him for the baby to come so I hope he's right! So get here already, Aiden James!
Kathy
-
That is a wow Lisa. I thought mine was fast at 1hr 20min. And that's from the very first contraction.
-
My first was long and my third took longer than my second..who can predict.?
-
Well, no baby yet. DIL has a dr appointment early tomorrow morning and she thinks he'll want to induce, which she says would be fine with her. So, we'll see what happens.
Kathy
-
Lol Kathy. Does that give you an insight into the nature of the little man?..........stubborn me thinks..........lol.
-
Chrissy, he already doesn't fall far from the tree, that's for sure!

Lisa - my 2nd was born in 20 mins (that's why there was no 3rd). Fortunately, the ambulance made it in time for me to almost lie down - he was born before I was fully reclined. My 1st was 1 hr & 20 mins and she was breech. I didn't have any meds with either birth. They will both be here for Christmas - my 47 yo daughter & my 44 yo son.... I am blessed.
-
Thirteen hours with my first, twenty four with my second and an emergency c section with my third...........thought it was a good idea to call it quits after that!.......lol.
-
First child was messing me about for almost 3 days. Bad pains, getting in and out of bed, calling midwife back and forth. Had to call out emergency ob. to do a forceps in the end. Said never again ! Second child took 15 hours, so not so bad.
I had a 5 month miscarriage inbetween, refused to go to hospital, because I knew jabs would be involved ! I was laid up 3 days while things came away!.
Having said that I wish now I had had 4 children, not just two.
Wren and mostlymom. Wow, wish they all shot out like that !
Isabella.
-
lololol - careful what you wish for! i was ok "during" - it was after that the "what ifs" hit. 20 mins isn't really that long - what if i had been somewhere else? they didn't have cell phones in 69.... so many things could have gone wrong.
-
mostly Mom...my DH was in Vietnam when my second one was born..my Mom flew in to take care of number 1..so they stripped my membranes at the hospital as she had to get back home..good thing I was already there...
-
Lisa, they stripped DIL's membranes yesterday, she's 100% effaced, and still not in the hospital. Another dr appointment this morning and was again told to keep waiting! I had to look up the difference between stripping the membranes and breaking the water to be sure, but her water's intact. I think she should be in the hospital, but as has notably been said before "I don't know nuthin' about delivering babies!"
So yesterday I made a caramel cake for DS's birthday tomorrow (the father of the reluctant baby) and today a 12-layer chocolate cake to take to DH's family Christmas party on Saturday. Tonight hope to finish wrapping what's left and be done with it. At least the baking kept me occupied!

Kathy, with my third, we were in Madrid Spain, with my history the doc wanted me to check into the USAF Hospital outside the city. It would have taken over an hour to get there. So when I was dialated to 10 he said it was time. Anyhow there was a bullfight I already had tickets to see, I told him after that. I did finally get admitted snd waited two weeks at 10. .til he induced me.
I think it is so hard to wait when you know it should be time..keep baking! :-) -
I went to pick up my monthly prescription tablets today. My dr's surgery had enclosed a little note, which I presume everyone will be recieving, telling me that if I need to consult a doctor, and it is going to take MORE THAN 8 MINUTES, I have to call the receptionist and discuss it with her !!! NO WAY... I will never speak to the receptionists to discuss any problem I might need to see a doctor for at the best of times, to me this is between my doctor and myself. This has really put my hackles up...hells bells...it takes them 5 mins to do my blood pressure before we start any discussion....how on earth can I ever get anything sorted out in the remaining 3 mins!! I am thinking it is time to look for another practice. Trouble is, we are restricted geographically, sort of roughly 5 miles radius of where I live. Then I have to have a very thorough medical, and the cost of the drugs I take for bc and blood pressure, plus heart tablets, plus pain killers could very easily get me a refusal to join a new practice....I cost them money !! The doctors are getting 'cut this down, cut this out' notices from the government. ...and as we age there are more barriers to us recieving appropriate drugs. At 75 a lot of the drugs for cancer are soon going to be denied, countrywide. Easier to let the old die than to treat them.
Was it 'The Who' who sang 'hope I die before I get old' in one of their hits !!!
Isabella.

Ooo Kathy, he is a stubborn baby isn't he?! I'm sure that when he starts he will shock everyone and arrive in a real hurry.
Your cakes sound delicious! 12 layers?........wow!!!!!!
Got the base for my plum pud Christmas icecream done yesterday so today it gets churned and put into the freezer. I did the mince for the mince pies as well and last night make four dozen of the little blighters.........I don't know why I keep doing them as they are so fiddly but the kids and grand kids love them so I guess I'll just keep doing them.......lol.......what a sucker I am......lol.
Hoping that boy decides to come soon!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Oh Isabella, I will think of you whenever I start complaining about the medical system here! Can't blame you for being upset--I will talk to the dr's nurse, but not a receptionist.
Lisa, are you ever brave! Going to a bullfight at 10 cm?? That's incredible! I fear I'd have been pleading for painkillers at that, not shouting Ole! (don't know how to get the little mark over the e.)
Chrissy, the layers are thin so it's sort of like a torte, but it's a good 4+ hour job. Each layer is made individually and the chocolate glaze takes forever to get on because it keeps dripping down. I've never had plum pudding, much less the ice cream, but I bet it's good! We're cold and rainy tonight and I'd like some of your summer right now, so ice cream would be nice.

Aiden James arrived at 12:06 PM today, 7 lbs 10 oz and 20 inches long! Beautiful baby and everyone's doing fine. So, his parents got their new tax exemption! Tomorrow I'll take some pictures with the camera but now I just have cell phone pics and don't think I can post them on here.
Kathy
-
Oh Kathy! Congratulations!! Perfect timing........well almost......lol......at least he's finally here and all are doing well!
Merry Christmas all!!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
A Christmas baby to hug! Lovely
-
Great news about the baby Kathy.
Have just had a wonder family dinner, its Christmas eve here and about to go to church. Both DDs are singing tonight.
Calm before the chaos.

Hi gals: i want to apologize for being MIA for so long.. sick depressed trying to move.. Christmas was totally ignored here to get it started and you know how depressing that was to me..
We finally packed up our friend, moved him to his new house... couldn't wait any longer.
With one leg out of commission still, cleaning and moving is very difficult and as usual, my boys have dissappearred even the one staying here!
We have to be in by the 1st or pay 2 payments.. don't know if we will make it, but we're trying..
Christmas morn will be with my beautiful grandkids, so I am looking soo forward to that. can't say a word about not getting help, though.. won't spoil what little Christmas there will be......#1 son went to NY as we started and is headed to the keys
right after Christmas, so there 'll be no help on the tail end, either.oh well...
When we get in i will try to get in the habit of getting here, again.
I have thought of many of you here, and your in my heart all the time.glad for the Christmas Babies congrats.Kathy and Leah.. All of you Enjoyall the little moments of the Holiday.missing you all 3jays

a pic a friend made in photobucket.. loved it but can't remove her name.3jays
-
3jays, so good to hear from you. Hope the move goes well from this point on.
Congratulations to all with new babies. They are such a joy.
-
yay for new babies! we have one coming in 4 weeks, or I should say due in 4 weeks!
3jays, I hurt for you when I read your posts ... darn those boys sometimes. I hope and pray you enjoyed Christmas day at least and that maybe you got some unexpected help along the way for the move. big gentle hugs.
Alyson, what a beautiful table
-
Yay for you, Mary! New babies are so beautiful and sweet they just make me melt.
3jays, I neglected to say how great it is to see you!! So hope your sons, or anybody you can get, will help with the move. What a shame that you had to be the ones to pack up your friend and get him moved out. That's outrageous in the light of all you still have to do, and I'm so sorry that happened. I hope you and Mur at least got to see your grandchildren and that part was happy. Please keep us posted when you can. Love you, dear lady.
Who already has their tree down? Not me! Guess I'll shoot for Friday.
Hope all are having a great week--
Kathy

3Jays hello hello! Welcome back. I hope you had a nice Christmas with the Grandkids. Come back when you can and let us know how you are doing with your move. I sure hope you can ask for some help, and receive it too.
I have my son, his wife and their two kids here. My DGD is changed since I last saw her two years ago. She is more restrained and I am sad for that, she is nine now. My DGS is almost five and I wish I could show him the entire Mister Rogers series. I love them so much.
My tree is certainly still up. I love the lights in the room. The lids did the decorating this year and it is perfect in all its imbalance.
Love you all Barb
-
We are "doing" Christmas on the 28th as that's the time we can all be together at my brothers'. Then the tree HAS to be down Jan 1st or earlier. I HATE Christmas decorations after Christmas!! Love to start the new year clean. Got snow yesterday, so Christmas was dry. HATE snow after Christmas!! But LOVE the Christmas lights in the snow...can you tell it's a confusing time of year for me?
-
Barbe you are so funny! I once knew someone who had their Christmas decorations up until Easter. It wasn't me, cross my heart! Being from the midwest I know just what you mean about the Christmas lights with snow on them, it looks really pretty. One time I was in Arizona at Christmas time and was so surprised to see lights actually on the ground, outlining house lots. There were also lights on Palm Trees.
I could not sleep last night so I am up at 7:45 AM here, the sun isn't even up but there is some light outside. I suppose I need to start taking sleeping meds every night until I get a schedule going. With a house full of people I need to be steady and I won't be today.
Have a veryMerry Christmas Barbe!
Hugs to all Ginger
