Still home guys. Ship leaves Sunday afternoon after 4. I got an email about their new high speed Internet package so I should be able to annoy you regularly with lovely blue water pics and food porn!
Back to packing. -
oooh there's a web site that tracks large ships. It would be fun if we could track you chickadee. If only I could remember the address....
Good editorial by the Salt Lake paper. It reminds me of when Dumbya's hometown paper (near his ranch) became one of the first to endorse Kerry!

Ship Tracking: http://www.seascanner.com/schiffsposition.php?schiff=Carnival+Magic
Ship departure from Galveston: http://www.galveston.com/webcams/
Choose the Cruise webcam first, then the Harbor as she passes, then the Emerald webcam for the last glimpse.
See where my head has been at every Sunday between 4 and 5pm!
-
Denver Post and Tampa Bay Tribune also endorsed the President today. The Onion endorsed John Edwards (snicker). It must be National Endorse a Candidate Day!

I just found out my friend's cousin is running for POTUS.

-
((((scuttlers)))) - so good to "see" you
ok, da' scoop on the Amy Goodman info: http://www.thenation.com/article/170644/mitt-romneys-bailout-bonanza#
This is not, IMHO, as creepy as Sensata, but it does have "legs" and the story is going, finally, viral.
Chickadee - drooling over chocovine, or whatever it is gonna be called...
-
Yee gads...life is so simple in the bubble. So black and white. So easy, you wouldn't need to put one brain cell into the what whys of anything. Must be so carefree.
-
Sunflowers - "Mitt Romney's Bailout Bonanza"...this is a story that should have legs. Like this title too. It's like Paul Ryan being against the Stimulus, but requesting money from it, but in a much more insidious way. The part about Ann Romney despositing the multi-million dollar check, herself....oh, the visual.
-
Chocovine is heaven. i need to get some before the kids come over for Thanksgiving. Right now I am settling for a moderately good cabernet. It gets the job done. In fact better than half the glass was gone in 15 minutes.
-
Wow - I think the Obama campaign has hit on an effective name for the masses - Romnesia. Thanks for the link, Blue. The savviness of the Obama strategists rival that of the Clinton ones. It's about time we dems knew how to parley our ideas into a win.
-
I'm having a very LARGE glass of a pretty good Cab-Sauv tonight. After I get home from work - as I have to work late - again.... I'm getting overly tired of these late night emergencies - plus I'm going to have to do some work both Saturday and Sunday. Very big bummer.
-
I understand some people are scandalized that we talk about drinking here. Do these people (who say they are Christian) really think Jesus drank grape juice at the Last Supper?
-
No, it was Jesus Juice!
-
Some people are just easily scandalized....
and I think that some people also feel that drinking is just asking to get cancer back. I'm of a different mind-set. -
from my in-box:
Romney Economic Team Fails History Lesson
by Nathaniel Downes
In history, there have been various economic theories which have come and gone. In general, the modern economic theorist falls into one of two camps; those who follow the work of Dr Frederich Hayek and those who follow the work of John Maynard Keynes. Hayek argued for government restraint while Keynes promoted for government engagement in the economy. The problem comes in that Hayek's work -- in particular the form of his economics promoted by Milton Freidman and his Chicago School of Economics -- when it was tried, has never worked. While it produces a strong short-term surge, over the long period the underlying foundations of the economy erode and a systemic collapse is inevitable, such as you found in Argentina and Chile during the last century. Akin to taking a shot of adrenalin or steroid for a short term athletic boost, the long term damage is never worth the short term gain.
// //
But, it is this flawed premise which the Romney campaign continues to cling to in order to make the case that he should replace Barack Obama for President of the United States. You can read his economic teams case here:
It boils down to this: we just did not do enough of deregulation and Laissez Faire economics, we must have more! Just because it caused the last recession doesn't mean it will cause another one. And they point to the previous recessions of the past 50 years as their proof.
Instead, noted Harvard economists released this paper, discussing the differences between the recessions of the past 50 years and the one which gripped the world in 2007. The difference boils down to a single word - Systemic:
The underlying problem is not a bad performing sector dragging down the economy, it is that the system itself is sick and cannot absorb the shock when such a sector appears. This allows a single sector to take down the entire structure. To recover requires far more time -- five or more years -- based on historical comparisons. In effect, rather than recover, the economy needs to rebuild, to restructure. One must restore the system or else the underlying issues will appear again.
Romney's proposal addresses none of this; it is based on the idea that if they just believe, it will work. All evidence points to the contrary, but they still cling to their laissez faire, calling it Free Market, and claim that "this time it will work, they're sure of it!" You just have to believe in it!
Belief is good for fairy tales, it is not good for economic policy.
I suppose I'm going to have all sorts of weird things on my entry here. I don't seem able to copy an paste anymore.

REALLY?? "Scandalized" that we talk about drinking here? Gee, some people just can't get enough of trying to control other people ... Don't have sex, don't marry who you love unless they are of the opposite sex, don't drink, don't take contraceptives, don't speak your mind ... For the party of "small government" and "personal responsibility," they are awfully interested in things that are none of their business. As in everything else ... Don't like it, don't do it. Get a more productive hobby.

By the way - what's a cannoli?
-
Pastry, much better than cheap old smelly trout! I can smell them from all the way up here.
-
oh - pastry sounds good

-
-
ITALIAN pastry!
-
Best line on the Godfather Part 1. "Don't forget the cannoli"!
-
Yikes - those look DELICIOUS!!! Is that whipping cream? I LOVE whipping cream (yet another reason why I'm pudgy....) maraschino cherries are pretty darn good, too!!!! What's the wrapping?
-
They are usually wrapped in a crusty wrap that is formed and fried. The inside is usually make with ricotta cheese. Very easy. I make them all the time. I buy the crust.
-
As far as the term "Romnesia" - this term was sent to me from a friend "new word of the day" on October 4th. I asked my friend, today, to tell me where she picked it up from (I even reported it right here on BCO on October 4th, but apparently another post lost), but she can't remember (she has Romnesia, I guess) where she got it from.

Ooooooh Cannoli's are Italian dessert heaven. Wrapped in a crispy Pizzelle shaped as a tube, it is filled with Mascarpone cheese (very sweet and a bit like cream cheese)that can be flavored however you like.
As for an occasional Chocovine sip, even my oncologist is fine with the occasional.
Chocolate and red wine. Both good for what ails you.
Geezy peezy, we aren't alcoholics here, just enjoying an occasional respite. I intend to down a margarita or two in Cozumel......so take that Mother Superior!
Remember that song.....Signs. Some people might look in the mirror and see themselves.
Songwriter: Emmerson, Les
And the sign says, "Long hair freaky people need not apply"
So I put my hair under my hat and I went in to ask him, why?
He said, "You look like a fine outstanding young man, I think you'll do"
So I took off my hat I said, "Imagine that, huh me working for you"
Oh, signs, signs, everywhere there's signs
Blocking up the scenery, breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?
And the sign says, "Anybody caught trespassing will be shot on sight"
So I jumped the fence and I yelled at the house
Eh, what gives you the right?
To put up a fence and keep me out or to keep mother nature in
If God was here He'd tell it to your face, man you're some kind of sinner
Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs
Blocking up the scenery, breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?
Oh but say now, "Mister, can't you read?
You got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat
You can't watch, no you can't eat
You ain't supposed to be here"
And the sign says, "You gotta have a membership card
To get inside", uuh
And the sign says, "Everybody welcome, come in kneel down and pray
But then they passed around a plate at the end of it all
And I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign
I said, "Thank you Lord for thinking about me, I'm alive and doing fine"
Signs, signs everywhere, there's signs
Blocking up the scenery, breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?
Signs, signs everywhere, there's signs
Blocking up the scenery, breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign? -
well, ricotta cheese isn't as good as whipping cream, but still pretty d*mn good (and undoubtedly better for you). I've never seen them around here, but that could be 'cuz I never go into a decent bakery anymore....

-
I get Romnesia too but don't flip flop like a dying smelly trout.
