A thought-provoking piece on George McGovern from "The Atlantic:"
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/10/on-war-and-peace-george-mcgovern-will-die-vindicated/263839/
"Over the course of his career, McGovern made a lot of arguments that I personally find unpersuasive. But he sure did get the most important issue of his time right. Think of all the Americans who'd be alive today if the country had listened to McGovern rather than his opponents about the Vietnam War. Think of all the veterans who'd have been better off. Think of how many Vietnamese civilians would've been spared death by napalm. But America didn't listen." -
Wow, enjoyful, I only just now read the link you posted a few pages back on the Republican operative who was arrested for voter registration fraud.
For anyone who didn't read the actual link, this guy registered voters and then threw their completed applications in the dumpster. In. The. Dumpster. Can't go much lower than that.

DUH! No wonder they vote the way they do. They read and just don't understand. Their prism is all fogged up.
Lewing, They are so underhanded.

and for your reading pleasure, those who ( like me) don't have cable or access to Amy Goodman

Love your avatar, E!
GG - Gorgeous picture!

I wonder what part of HE-WAS-8-YEARS OLD during the Vietnam war they don't understand. Yep, underhanded!
-
AND dishonest just like Romney.
So now the polls aren't skewed! HAHAHAHA!

Blue, I have never thought certain people cared about the facts. I think their version of events should be characterized as "comfort thoughts."
So, for example, if we wish the world were square, we could just devote a thread to Matt Drugd postings on how the world is square to comfort ourselves.
It's an anti-fact religion; the belief system (as opposed to the adherence to the facts) extends to the most mundane things. It's a waste of time to pry certain folks out of their comfort zone. Perhaps many never had a good formal education, they feel intimidated by complexity and so they gravitate to more easily digestible nuggets served up by radio, TV and blog loonies.
Total waste of time to argue. I think they themselves believe about 75 percent of what they say. What matters to them is not veracity but...comfort. My concern is that so many people are extending faith-based facts to so many areas of life, so that bigger portions of the country live in fairyland (where they collect social security, Medicaid assistance, etc, but say the "guv'mint" doesn't really exist).

I think its more a matter of competitiveness and living in lalaland. And they MUST always have the last word,

A Romney-supervised company was found guilty of massive medicare fraud:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2012/01/21/romney-supervised-medical-testing-company-guilty-of-massive-medicare-fraud/
Can someone on the Other thread explain how this is not an issue for a Presidential candidate? -
Enjoyful, c'mon! Now you ask for too much!
-
Well darn. The link didn't work. Let me try again.

I'll have to send you a pipe too!

I can't get the link to work. It's not hard to find though - just google Forbes Damon Corp Romney.
-
Gumby ... so glad you were able to figure out how to post the pic. What a spectacular view!
Personally, it really bothers me that Romney is LDS. Serving a two year mission is not that same as three years in Viet Nam or Iraq or Afghanistan. Someone further up the thread mentioned that the missions are in service to the LDS church and do not equate to military service or serving the country in some other capacity. Someone on the 'mirror' thread also posted about how much Romney gave to charity. The Mormon church is NOT a charity, and I don't think that should be counted as a chariable donation.
Mrs. Romney seems like a lovely person .. but she is quite wrong about going on a two year mission being the same as serving the country in some other way.
Hope everyone is having a good day.
hugs,
Bren

Everyone read Nate Silver today????

-
Thanks, Blue! I guess Romney's pal-ing around with fraudsters is okay because at least he earned a profit??
-
Yep Sunny! 70-30 in favored of Obama.
-
What?!? Some people don't care about facts??? Sigh . . . I'm reluctantly starting to come to the same conclusion.
I agree, Athena, that this disdain for facts seems to be spreading -- becoming almost a point of pride in some circles -- and that's really troubling for this country's future.

Since the bar is open, I have discovered a brand new delight courtesy of the cruise forums.
It's called Chocovine! Seriously it is red wine and chocolate and it is devine! It comes in a couple variations, whipped cream, raspberry, expresso or regular old chocolate.
One shot glass of sipping heaven. I find I just want a little bit, like an aperitif.
Taking a bottle on the cruise to toast the sunsets. -
Chickadee, that drink sounds incredible! Glad you are living it up on the cruise!!

-
Chickadee - does sound devine. So exactly, geographically, where are you at the moment? And the weather? Pictures??
Let us live vicariously Madame!
