Tampa area BCO sisters get togethers
The growing friendship of our wonderful group of women will continue here. As we have since 2012, we look forward to new friends not yet known joining our group and growing with us. Please continue to post only on the new link here.
Original post from July 2012: What a wonderful time I had with six other central west coast Florida BCO sisters at The Cheesecake Factory at International Mall in Tampa today. As discussed and planned, we look forward to getting together no less than once every three months going foward, future locations to be announced. We look forward to old friends and new friends joining us.
Watch this header for updates to our schedule.

It was indeed a great gathering of BCO Sisters. Looking forward to the photo being posted.
-
Check the Florida people where are you thread - pics are there! Lots of fun and always wonderful to get together with the great ladies of BCO!
-
I'm so glad I joined you all. Thanks for a great time; it was nice to put faces with some of the names. (Adding this thread to Favorites...)
-
Does anyone know how to edit the title of a thread? I want to add Florida so it comes up in more searches. I just tried to edit but did not see a way to change the title.
-
Hey the Tampa Thread is here! Hooray!
I don't think any of us can edit the title, but I think you can ask the Mods and they will do it. I saw that done on another thread awhile back.
I really enjoyed the day. Adding this to my favorites too!
-
Hey I found the thread. I had a great time with ya all!
-
Let me know when the next meetup is--I'm in!

Support Groups in Tampa, St Pete area?
Hi Ladies: I just moved to FL in April for career and just got diagnosed in July days before my 39th birthday. YIKES!!!
I am single and really do not know anyone in the area. I would love to meet other ladies going through this in the area. I would much rather meet folks live than chat online. I have tried to attend 2 different support groups so far and they did not exist anymore (?).
Please reach out if you are aware of support groups that are still "active" in the area. Thank you.
-
perhaps some one will have information about the St Pete area. in Tampa, Moffitt and St Joeseph Hospital have groups.
-
corab91 - I know there is a Hope Lodge (American Cancer Society) on the campus of USF and they may have support group meetings. Moffitt Cancer Center does as well and I don't think they are limited to their own patients, but I don't know about Breast Cancer specific groups. Here is a ACS link for local support, and a link for Moffitt:
http://www.moffitt.org/cancer-types--treatment/services/emotional-support/support-groups
I have not participated in any support groups or counseling, other than getting together with ladies from BCO occasionally, so I am not aware of much in the way of local resources. Can you ask at your oncologist or surgeon's offices?

When I first started looking into support groups in my area, I also found some were no longer there or the meeting time was when I had to be at work. It was very discouraging at times. I found this website and it is great. I think you'll find the women on it are very supportive and have lots of information to help get through treatment. Just check out the different threads .
-
Hey ladies! I found it, thanks Lee7! Support groups? Ugh. I went to our local ACS chapter and it was the MOST depressing place EVER. The floor was falling in and some old crone volunteering didn't have anything to help me with except to give me some ugly skullcaps made by volunteers with the most horrible fabric left over from 1975.
-
I got a pink plastic bead necklace from my local ACS. I think it was left over from a Pink-tober event.
Hey Kira! Do you think they will ever finish all that constuction on the highway? I shouldn't complain though, the drive went well and it didn't even rain.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!
-
Lee7, who knows if they will finish any time soon, but at least they are making some headway. Hope you ha a great visit with your grandbaby. Gotta love those pink-tober events.
-
Are we about due for another get-together?
-
Hello, Miss GalSal! Sounds like a good idea to me.
-
Yes, we are past due. And Galsal and I even more so. I had checked on a few dates a while back that didn't work. How does October 20 work for everyone?
-
I can't do Oct. 20 - I will be on my way to D.C. for the vaccine trial.
-
At this point, I'm rather open.
-
Other than October 20, I can do some evening times which works well for us who live right in the Tampa area, but won't work for a larger group. So how about we plan for both? How about a larger Florida meet on November 10? Unfortunately, that is the one year anniversary of my exchange surgery and the start of among the worst 10 days of my life, but I bet getting together with you wonderful women will be just the tonic!
And for those of us that live closer together, I am up for this Tuesday Sept 25 or next Tuesday Oct 2, and also October 18.
Is this complicated or what?! LOL But we do need more frequent meets for the very locals and at least every three months for the more extended locals.
-
Sounds like a good plan - having local/extended local options. I am tentative for Nov. 10 (vaccine trial), good for Sept. 25 and Oct. 18, but in D.C. for Oct. 2.
-
I can do early lunch on a Tuesday. I generally work the closing shift & Thursday & Saturday are my normal days off. Would love to see you ladies again!
-
You know what, I thought about waiting until had the BS and Onc appts this week to chat about things but I need to meet with my BCO lovelies! I'm up for the 25th and maybe even the 2nd as well. LMAO
I can only do evenings or weekends, as this is my last week of working part-time hours and most of the free time is planned. I work regular 8a-5p hours.
I'm geeked about this now! November 10th sounds superb!

Hey everyone !!
I don't think I can do an evening date, I have to be up way too early to get myself to work but any Saturday should be okay so .....count me in for Nov 10th!
-
I evenings are a no for me. I would love to meet up on Nov. 10 though.
-
Okay, we are definately on for Nov 10. Cheescake Factory at International Mall in Tampa. Done.
Now, since Galsal is being SO consistent and predictable about this week or next (hee hee), how about those who can do super short notice meet at Timpano's in south Tampa at 6pm on Wednesday?"
-
And, DLL...we will pick up a Thursday from now on. I have a meeting then on this week already.
-
It's a BCO Lovelies thing, dont ya know! What can I say, I draw strength from you Ladies and it lifts my soul.
-
mondayschild - as in tomorrow the 26th, or tonight the 25th? I'm confused. Then again, I am easily confused!
-
Tomorrow the 26th. Wednesday. Different than above.
