So...whats for dinner?

Michelle, glad your mom is calming down. Also love your answers!
Love, I am jealous, I hope you enjoy the trip.
Talk like a pirate day is important around here. We have Pirate Fest here early in the summer. We have about 20 - 25,000 people for it. Look up Port Washington Pirate Fest, our other big fest is Fish days, about twice that many. Couldn't make it to either this year, but wait til next year! . Unfortunately,I will be eating a frozen dinner, today, my Home nurse came today to replace my port access, did not go swell, after four pokes, she called her supervisor, she tried three times, and they used up all the needles in the kit and found out the wrong sizee were in the kit. Since my ABX IS SUPPOSED to be timed the could not wait for a new delivery, so I Went to th e cancer care center to be accessed for the week. They got it first try and treated my lovely ripped skin thyat was under the tape. Then they watched me give myself the abx, cause they couldn't give it to me cause I brought it in. I am tired, shaky, and a bit steamed, not a fun day. So, long story is why I am just eating a tv dinner. LOL. Sorry to make you read it, but if I had to live it, you guys get to to read it. LOL! -
(((Moonflower))) - what a horrible day! I hope you have dessert with that tv dinner, you deserve it!
-
Thx, Michelle. That is a nice part of my day, a neighbor brought over a half pie made from my Apple tree, guess she did not pick enough for two pies! LOL.
-
Kay- Omg, I am laughing so hard right now, I was thinking to myself how nonchalant you said you were going to visit a friend who is having an affair. LOL!! Too funny. See how rumors get started (by someone like me) hehe! Have fun in paris.
Carrie- LOL-Well matey sorry you are not going to paris, would you like to? LOL!
Lacey- So glad you asked Kay to clarify that, it never entered my mind it was somthing else. Smart thinking! Ha!
Michelle- So happy to hear your mom is adjusting now to her new place and smileing again. Loved the comments Susan wrote on her 5 questioner. Wow she is amazing that she cooks everything from scratch and no cans in the pantry. Truely amazing!
DH is off golfing so just watched the movie "The Vow" it was so good and sad too. It is based on a true story. Making me a steak sandwich for dinner and Kale chips.
-
Moon- Ohhh so sorry you had to go through all that, I hate when someone does not know how to take blood right and keeps poking you. Next time let them know you want someone who knows what the heck they are doing. Glad you got some apple pie in with that TV dinner. ((((((hugs))))))
-
Wacky Wednesdays, they drive me nuts! Whatever I can find that is leftover.
-
Am I the only one who thought Kay might mean some kind of gala event?
-
Gosh Moonflower - Sounds like you need a ((((BIG HUG)))). Hope you are eating that TV dinner with your feet propped up on sofa and cuddled under a warm blanket. YUM - Apple pie. You were the one describing the very old apple tree you had thought about cutting down, right?
I lived for a few months in Fort Walton Beach, FL in my youth. They had (still have I think) Billy Bowlegs festival, pirate too. Many pirates in Wisconsin???
I have a fig bush (not "tree" size) that actually has about 20 peanut-sized and some bigger figs on it. I can't wait though it has had about 3 this year already. Brown turkey fig OK for homegrown. Bought some at Central Market few weeks ago. Tiger stripped but about $4/pound; don't buy many at that price but at least you can eat the whole thing, no central pit. Tree had none last year with our drought even though DH watered it daily. They should make figs, don't think first freeze is until mid. November.
Having easy stir fry of smoked sausage. Just something easy, not many dishes and don't have to think about it too much. Know it's not the greatest for nutrition but right now a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. It was probably gonna be a bowl of oatmeal for me and DH could fend for himself when he gets home.
Chabba - I thought Paris, pearls, men to swoon over, wine. Love the use of "affair" or as us southerners are wont to say "he's having a do" and don't mean a hairdo. LOL.
-
Moon... So sorry that things went so horribly today...
Michelle,
Thanks for the heads up on the "5 Questions" thread.... What wonderful insight into the real people behind this disease..... Loved and appreciated your very real and heartfelt responses to those questions! I appreciate all of your posts here and loved learning a little bit more about you!
Ahoy Debbie,
Bwaaaaa haaaa haaaa on the Talk Like A Pirate Day quotes..... Too Funny!!!! Last time I posted I said I was just doing a quick fly-by and you said you saw me.... I forgot to add that I was feeling so crabby that the only way you saw me flying by was on my BROOM! LOL........ -
Chabba, I, and I'm sure a few others, were picturing a gala event! Glad for that clarification, Kay.
Michelle, so glad that mom's mood has lifted!
Moonflr, I agree that you need to ask for an experienced person before allowing any pokes in the future. Sorry for your awful day.
Had grilled shrimp over dirty rice at Smoke n Bones, since I could not get into lots of meat tonight. We sinfully enjoyed the best fried onion rings, sweet potato fries and the most scrumptious cornbread. I will be up early walking it off tomorrow! -
moon - what a bummer of a day! So sorry!
We are seriously pirate-y here in Tampa - after all, our football team is names the Buccaneers! Here is a pic of the annual Gasparilla Festival:
-
Aw Moon, you've really had more than your share of crap with this. Hope you've turned the corner! ((hugs))
-
My Sara Palin look-alike...at least that's what my family thinks. LOL, my picture is 10 1/2 years old!!!
-
OMG!! Michelle, you can give Tina a run for her money!
-
Chabba- No you are not the only one who thought that, I think I was the only one thinking the negative haha! Shows you where my mind is at ;-))
Seaside- Hahaha! You didn't look crabby to me, you had a big smile on your face as you did the fly by LOL! Hope whatever made is crabby has passed. ))
Michelle- OMG is right! I can see the resemblence but she ain't got nothing on you! You look so pretty!
Specialk- Love that!
-
Michelle i was thinking the same thing as Joy....you may look alike but you got the smarts!
It truly must have been " Whacky Wednesday" for sure. I was so stressed with all of the school work that I dont understand, I was freaking out, along with numerous phone calls to the school (which just gave me more things to do) Was too stressed to go to hump night activities, my DH went and I sat here eating oreos (which I dont even really like) Today I am going to remove myself from the situation and do some retail therapy with my sister.
Moonflwr You have certainly had your challenges. So many nurses are unable to access the ports, she should have admitted defeat after the second try instead of torturing you. I would call the home care company and request a nurse that is better trained and if they dont have one maybe you can go get the port accessed and have the home care nurse meet you there to do the infusion...will save time and stress and pain and suffering. Hope you are healing and on the road to recovery Thinking of you.
Debbie Nope you are not the only one I was thinking the same thing about the affair, but thought it was funny how casual she was about it.

Michele, that's amazing lol!

Michele, that's amazing lol!
Today is baking day. I'll be making English muffins, pie crust for apple pies tomorrow and rye bread. I'm having family from out of town tomorrow so I'm fixing a crown roast of pork with salted potatoes (told you I was hooked), roasted Brussels sprouts in a honey Dijon mustard sauce and the rye bread. Tonight I think I'll roast a chicken that's been languishing in my freezer for a while with some asparagus with lemon butter. Then I can use the leftovers for chicken salad for lunch.
I'll be wearing my iPod during all these activities because roofers are putting a new roof on and man is it noisy! -
Michelle, wonderful picture.
-
Carrie- Wow must of been a stressful day if you passed up hump night! ha! I love oreo cookies love to drunk them in milk mmmm! Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that hehe!
Nancy- Your dinner sounds so delicious! I love crown roast of pork such a nice elegant dinner to serve.
Joyce- Hi good to see you here, hope you are feeling well (((hugs)))
This forum seems slow to load!!

Carrie- I forgot to say lol at your dream of me!! I hope your Thursday is way better than your Wednesday was and that things have calmed down a bit.
Moonflower- So sorry you had such a bad day yesterday. I hope you were able to enjoy your evening and wake up to a better day today.
Auntienance- Your chicken sounds good. I think I might roast a chicken tonight myself
Michelle- Love the picture! That is too funny! You really do look a lot like her! I'm glad your mom is doing better and the meds are working for her. It must give you so much relief. Also love the five questions thread you have all started so interesting!!
LOL at all the pirate talk!! We talk like pirates here all the time.
Does anyone know if you can freeze eggplant?
Last night I made some soup that my neighbor had given me the recipe to. It is so good and I don't even like what is in it. Here is the recipe if anyone wants to give it a try.
6 cups chicken broth
3 cans cream of chicken soup
1 1/2 cups diced onion
3/4 tsp oregano
3/4 tsp basil
salt and pepper
1 clove of garlic minced
4 cups cooked cubed chicken
1 package frozen tortellini
1 package of frozen California mix veggies
put broth and onion in a pot and bring to a boil cook until onions are soft add seasonings and cream of chicken soup and return to a simmer. Add chicken, tortellini and veggies and simmer for about 25 minutes.
Tonight I might roast a chicken.....
We had a beautiful day here today and we took advantage of it. We met some friends at a local farm and did the three corn mazes and brought lunch and had a picnic and finished off with ice cream. Of course we missed nap time so now the boys are wired and a little out of control! Is it 7 yet? Lol!!
-
Just had a moment of brilliance I wanted to share. I had two of those plastic "in box" "out box" shelves you put on your desk to organize papers. They were not being used and sitting on the floor next to the desk, where I manage to trip over them daily on the way to the shredder. It occurred to me that I could put them in the freezer to organize small things like frozen hamburger patties and individually wrapped steaks. I always lose them at the back of the freezer!
-
Special K....love brilliant new ideas...good one for your unused desk organizer! Maybe there are freezer uses for many of my unused items around the house!
Did lots of walking along the Oak Bluffs shore line today, then stopped in to my friend's favorite fish store where we picked up some huge scallops and shrimp, which we shall saute and have (after some potato leek soup),with baby romaine with fresh tomato salad, and ratatouile. We also had some really yummy clam chower from the fish store, which had some picnic tables in front so we enjoyed chowder while basking in the sun!
Nice day....DH takes the ferry home tonight so he can make some work meetings tomorrow. I think we will BOTH miss him, since he has been a great addition to our girlfriend duo, and my widowed friend misses her DH terribly.
Have a good evening everyone...... -
Lacey- Your food and day sound fabulous! You had me drooling!
Special K- Yay for new ideas! I hope it works just the way you want it to
-
Lacey - it's a great day for soup! Your day sounds fantastic!
SpecialK - I love the idea of using those trays to corral the small stuff in the freezer. The magazine "Real Simple" publishe ideas like that. You should submit this one, I really do think it's a good one!
We're having a chicken stirfry with lots of veggies for dinner tonight, and dutch apple pie for dessert (from the nearby apple orchard).
Whole roaster chickens are on sale at Shaw's. I might actually pick one up this weekend and make some Mama Mandola's Sicilian Chicken Soup (a Carrabba's copycat recipe).

-
luv - for all I know I read it in Real Simple 6 months ago and it was there in the back of my mind subliminally, lol! I will go on their site and search for it though and then submit if I don't find it!
Speaking of unusual uses for things in the kitchen - you guys will think I am a nut but all during the time my children were growing up we hid silly things around the kitchen - we had a little rubber alien that was in the pantry, a plastic Mowgli (from the Jungle Book) in the cupboard with the dishes, a little monkey with a hula skirt in the fridge. I don't remember how this started but they are still in my kitchen now, and my children are 23 and 24! Even now they laugh when they open the the door and say "Hey! There is the pantry alien!"
Just heard from DH - he is stranded in the airport in Miami for a couple of hours so won't be home for dinner. I went out to lunch with a friend and had a brisket sandwich without the roll, and I am still full!
-
WOW Michelle, what a resemblance.
-
Laurie- Your day sounded really fun. I will copy/paste your recipe it will be great since winter is just about here. I made eggplant parmesan for my dad and when he couldn't make it, I froze it and pulled it out of the freezer when my sister was here it was delicious.
Lacey- Yumm on the scallops and shrimp!
Specialk- What a brillant idea, I have some of those in my spare room just sitting there collecting dust tomorrow I will see if they fit in the freezer.
Blackened cod with brussel sprouts for dinner for me and chicken with a peanut sauce for DH.
