I received an email very early in my dx "informing" me that bc is caused by abortion. And that the more abortions someone had, the more "serious" the bc was. I can't reprint what my answer to that idiot was, I would be banned for life.

    I'll have a double tonight.

I think we all deserve triples tonight!

I'm still smiling cuz he's still running against Claire M.  If she keeps her seat, and we in MA send Elizabeth Warren to the Senate, I'll be one VERY happy voter ;-)

Warren's the reason my CC company has to let me pay the higher % interest first!  (I'm a bit in debt due to BC.)  I want the one who takes care of the consumer first, not that other one.

kad2kar is right .... this thread moves so fast it is almost impossible to keep up. Had lunch yesterday with a friend and her 85 year old mother. Somehow we were on the rape topic ( ummmm, it's been in the news lately). Edna, this sweet little lady, told us that when she was in high school the girls were actually told "if you're being raped, relax and enjoy it", then Kam tells us Williams pretty much said the same thing. So Edna was told this some 60+ years ago .... and here we are again. I was actually raped in college by two guys who picked me up when I was hitchhiking. Of course the cops insinuated that it was my fault since I was hitchhiking. I was questioned about what kinds of clothes I was wearing (long sleeve t-shirt, jeans) whether I was braless, etc. They never found the guys but then I doubt they looked very hard since I was "asking for it" by hitchhiking. Needless to say, I never hitchhiked again and fortunately, I was smart enough to not blame myself and moved on with my life. And if I had gotten pregnant from the rape ... I probably would've wanted an abortion but they were illegal and it would've been back alley, and I probably would've gotten breast cancer from the abortion. Oh, wait, I did get breast cancer .... maybe from hitchhiking???

Glenna, I'm sorry you had to endure this horrible act. I'm glad to hear you have resolved it and not blame youself. I get so angry when I hear that rapaists are not pursued and the victim is blamed. Congratulations  on being such a strong woman. I'm sure y ou are a gift and inspiration to those around you.

Thanks, Cheryl, for the kind thoughts. This was back in the late 60's but it's amazing that reading through this thread today brought back those memories. It's something you put away but every once in a while you need to talk about it .... mostly to help someone else who's been through similar situations. I believe there's truth to the saying that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger .... and I do believe the rapists eventually get theirs!!

thread moving too fast - sliced and diced finger and had stitches yesterday and have to hunt and peck to type this out at about 20 wpm when normally I type 105 wpm - yes....I was one of those secretaries for years.  So mainly reading for a couple of days.  I could use a triple myself - Cape Cod if you don't mind.

Glenna - so sorry you went through that. I had a near escape once - luckily talked them out of it.

Hope you all like my new kitty pic - we were just watching something about leopards on telly and I said "Sweet kitty" - Steve thinks I'm crazy.

Poppy retrained and now staying outside in the AM - not trying to sneak back in. She's found if she lies on the divan on the verandah she gets the morning sun.

Glenna...I am sorry you had to endure rape.  There are few things more brutal.  You are amazingly resilient to be able to joke about the rape, hitchiking and breast cancer.  I raise my glass and tip my hat to you... (I wish there was a hat tipping, glass raising emoticon).

Glenna - so so sorry for what happened to you.  You have come through so much and you're an amazing woman!

I've been glued to the idiot box, watching the latest idiot statement.  Do ya know that moron Akins is now saying that what he meant about "legitimate" rape is referring to the fact that women lie about being raped.

What we've been saying all along...

OK - back to the idiot box for a bit then spending the day with youngest DD who turned 20 this morning.  No more teens in my house.

Oh, and I got a call for my second interview.  WOO HOOO!!

Glenna - adding my hug to you, and a real honor to KNOW you, and learn of your courage, HUMOR, and good sense.  ALmost hear Helen Reddy singing in the background ( I am Woman) when I read your posts.

For those of you who aren't "regular" readers of the New York Times, Maureen Dowd is a columnist who has a REAL way with words: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/22/opinion/dowd-just-think-no.html?hp She often writes about her Catholic family, and her deep understanding and respect for them.  Skewers pomposity, and has a track record of really hitting the proverbial nail, on the first word/head!

So sorry Glenna. I had a few close calls, as I also engaged in some of that "provocative" behavior, meaning thinking I should be free to walk where I wanted, say what was on my mind or wear my choice of clothes without living in fear. Silly me.

    Alexandria, you go girl!

Sunflowers:  loved the Maureen article.  She hit it outa the park.

susieq:  love your new kitty pic.  Leopard?  I'm a big cheetah fan, myself.  Met a woman who trained and cared for them at the Cincinnati zoo, and I got to watch them race through a field.  Remarkable animals.

No Blue I haven't but I did notice in the last few days she's been sneezing like crazy and last night she was on my lap for an hour just honky-tonking away - I do know that Bichons have huge breathing problems and one of the solutions is to blow into their nostrils and I have done that and the extreme honky-tonking stops - Munch is going to be 14 in another two weeks or so and for that reason I am scared to give her any meds.  How is Virgil doing?

Glenna-thank you so much for sharing your story with us. We should never forget how it used to be, and how some still want it to be.

Alexandria-good luck with the job interview. I have lots of friends these days who are getting interviews for various jobs, and it feels a little more positive out there in the job market than it used to. Shhhhh-don't tell the Repubs-it might ruin one of their campaign points. I know there is still a lot to be done on that front.

Jancie-ouch! I hope you enjoyed that cape cod. Isn't that a cranberry juice and vodka?

    Good luck Alexandria!!!

I've worked at this location for almost 29 years now, and am heartily sick of the whole thing.  I recently got inspired by a co-worker who is moving to a different job next week, and have decided that I'm going to start looking for something different.  The idea is a bit scary for me as I've been here so long, but I'm heartily sick of some of the people I work for (and around).  The big problem is health care, as I doubt that a new place will give it to me, but if I retire from here (which I would) I can carry their health care (I'd have to pay for it, which is costly....) but I think I'll give it a shot.  I don't have much to lose, as I certainly wouldn't quit unless I found something, and I don't intend to continue working here for more than another year and a half anyway.....

    Alexandria, fingers crossed!

Glenna, I'm so sorry for the trauma you endured.  Like so many of us, I had a close call in graduate school.  I punched him in the eye. He is now a Republican pundit in Washington, DC (no, I will not name him even in a PM).  He sent me a dozen red roses the next day.  I snapped each stem and left them in a pile in front of his door. I never see him, but just the sight of his name makes me furious.

Gardengumby, there is something to be said for finding another job and getting a fresh perspective.  I have worked for a number of organizations and have had 17 jobs in my adult life (I count each new division as a new job).  Good luck!

    HL, love the troll.

Gardengumby - just noticed how low your oncotype is, that is SO good.  Also think it's fabulous to give yourself another NEW opportunity - nothing more sapping of our good energy, than spending so much of our day in a place that is not nuturing.  Of course, I'm speaking as a Happy Saturday ( retired) person.

My activityfor today (b4 I startwatercolor painting) was to water & pick a whole slew of sungold tomatoes - that damn blight we had a few years ago is back.  Amazing cuz it's been so dry, spore born, think it came up from the South, so says our local paper.  Also found a BIG Parsely Worm caterpillar in my dill garden, just about ready to become a Black SwallowTail moth, so it's in a little screen "bug" container, with lotsa dill "sticks" so I can watch it make its cocoon and then set it FREE when it hatches.  Yes, there are website to identify & describe the process.  Life is Good.

Hope all are having a great day. Got another emial with lotsa links re: our yesterday topic, but enough of that .....MoDo said it so well.

    Good Morning All!

Glenna ... Sending you a big hug.  You are an inspiration to all.

Blue ... I am so worried about Virg.  Is he still honking a lot?  What did the vet say is going on with him?

Alex ... Good luck on the second inteview.  Hope it works out for you.

Gumby ... I hope your job search turns up something you can enjoy.  Since you would be able to continue your health benefits with the current company, can you do contract work and be self-employed?

    Libby ... Love the troll!

I've been busy with my marketing.  Surely out of hundreds of mailings, there must be one psychologist out there who needs a transcriptionist.  Please keep your fingers crossed for me.

I really enjoyed the discussion yesterday.  We're a lively bunch that's for sure!

    hugs,

    Bren

In my previous incarnation I was a midwife.  I remember leaving the hospital with a young woman, her baby and her partner three hours after the birth (because she wanted to go home and all was well with mom and babe).  It was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning and the antichoice people were marching around the hospital entrance (they have to stay away from the doors now) protesting women's choice.  My client was absolutely livid.  This young, happy, exhausted, new mom walked right up to this old guy (they usually are guys leading said protests) and shouted:  "I CHOSE to have this baby!  YOU have NO RIGHT to impose pregnancy, labour and birth and MOTHERHOOD on any woman who DOES NOT CHOOSE IT! NO RIGHT AT ALL!  She got a standing ovation from everyone around but the protesters.  He just about shat himself as he scurried away from us. I was as proud of her as I would have been had she been my own daughter.Cool
