What are you doing for fun??

...a firefighter, eh? Bet it's not on anybody else's fun list....but sounds exciting! All cleaned and organized and still useful fighting fires...can't beat that!
-
Chele, I think that fighting fires is where my daughter shines. She loves it. I think it's a great thing you guys do!
-
I came up to Peekskill to cheer my dragonboat team on to victory and they are puttinG my DH and DD in the boat with them to represent me. I'm So touched right now.
-
So my team WON and had my DH and DD deadweight representing me (had to get special permission that the leaders of the races gave them).
They dedicated the win to me. -
It is so good to see that even with adjustments, we can still enjoy life. I think I mentioned earlier that I opted not to teach summer school,so I really have to budget. My little patio garden is full of tomatoes and basil and I have done some massive cleaning out of my garage and spare bedroom. Some stuff was mine, some belonged to dd's but a lot had to go. I have been in my townhouse for 6 years and can't imagine why I was saving some stuff. I did find something remarkable, a big envelope with all of the letters I wrote to my family over 30 years ago when I was in the Peace Corps. It was amazing to read them, especially since I don't remember my parents giving them to me. I need to put them in some kind of album to preserve them. They are a wondrous window into my 21-22 year old self and a country that was once beautiful and peaceful. This week, I am going to see Cavalia, a Cirque de Soleil production. So excited since I have never seen one of their shows. Have a great weekend. Caryn

Yesterday my family insisted that I went to the Olympic stadium with them. We had the tickets and my dh had booked disabled parking but I was so tired and short of breath I wasn't sure I could do it. But when you have 3 kids saying it wouldn't be the same if I didnt go ... What could I do? Anyway when we got there we used a wheelchair (never done that before) and all the lovely Olympic helpers whisked us over to the stadium and helped me to my seat. Such a fantastic experience. We saw jessica Ennis + all the other women doing some of the heptathlon events, the women's 100m heats and the men's long jump qualifying jumps. I am so glad I went. For us it was a once in a life time experience. The kids, and my hubby will remember the 2012 Olympics forever - and I was there with them!
-
Olympics have been fab! Restrd my oodles of fluid in the couch and feels a little mre comfy and my friend has just dropped around a tens machine to see if it will help withbba k pain. Had front room painted when I was away and it tools fab with new wood burner for the winter. Mum has come to see me for the week and brother popped up from Lindon. Dad is threatening painting and decorating next week so could be an experience and dd wants to paint the summer house in ice cream colours. Phew. Zopiclone,Ativan, sleep mask and tens. Guess I might wake up Tuesday! LOL
Aargh mega bad spelling!!!

My wonderful friend who happens to be a professional gardener has cleared our garden and now I can sit on my arbour seat at the bottom of the garden. I managed about 20 mins today but it got very very hot and I had to come in. Trying to make the most of next week cos nobody is coming at me with stuff. Start Faslodex when funding comes through. Sore bum then lol.
-
Just took grandaughter to airport, which is never fun. but having her here for past 6 weeks certainly was. Summer still is beautiful. I'm going to take a long walk along the lakeshore and have some ice cream later this afternoon.
-
Went kayaking through some creeks yesterday.
-
OH Jill....sounds so beautiful. I am jealous
-
Just returned from a cabin in Northern Minnesota, with my daughters and sister, it was wonderful. Tried to go horseback riding....bone mets put a kibosh on that, knew immediately that I couldn't do it. I did get to play putt-putt though.
Feel refreshed and spent good quality time with my girls.

Went to my infusion...got good scan results...I was definitely expecting a change in chemo to a hard to tolerate hair-loss one....I was so excited to be wrong!
. I hung out in the town where the cancer center is for about four hours so I could catch a great Balkan band I like and dance. Had a great time! Drove the 50 minutes home on the highway with both windows open and sang along with my favorite little gospel singer, Rhema Marvanne. Felt invincible!
-
Made peach jam and plum jelly today. It looks lovely, hope it tastes as good as it looks.
-
So although lying in a hospital bed getting drained is not what I'm doing for fun (obv!) I just had a visit with Melissa (Tillycat) from the brain mets gals who is at the same hospital for chemo today.
So lovely to talk to someone in person who has same diagnosis and who gets it. And she was looking incredibly glam with all her slap on! -
Coming out of huge bad mood. You all are like a boost of vitamin d somedays. Here's Alesta finding joy in the yuck, Scuttles making jam and Jill dancing. So, I am now officially angry at myself for the self pity and I'm planning a trip to state fair on Sunday.
Scuttles, bet that jam is awsome! I'm going to farmers market this week too. There's a guy there that makes the best raspberry jam I've ever had.

Aww laurie
How lovely to be put on this thread as someone's fun :-))
It was so nice to see you too, I loved having a chat. By the time I got back they said 'where have you been, your bloods came back ages ago!' so clearly the time had flown.
Today for fun I went to vist this really cool lady who was in Ellis ward having ascite fluids drained. This was the first time I had met her in person, so glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it :-)

Ps bloods suggested chemo is working, hooray!! -
Whoo hoo for working chemo!!! Gives you extra chances for more fun!
Lx -
Laurie and Tillycat, how wonderful that you got to meet!
I spent last Saturday (after chemo on Friday) taking down my kitchen cabinet doors and prepping them for painting. My two daughters helped (well actually they did most of the work).
It is going to feel so good to have this done. Then a new kitchen floor!
Soleil, our local county fair is next week. I am trying to psych myself up to go. Hope you enjoy your state fair!
-
Holdontohope,, I love redecorating. That is huge fun to me. When is the floor coming?
I'm going to State Fair tomorrow. so excited. I have the day off and the entire day planned. I am gardening in the morning and state fairing in the afternoon. I'm probably just going to do a few hours; grab a really fattening bad food item, listen to music, walk around a bit. Just wouldn't feel right to miss State Fair.
-
Tillycat, it's so cool and exciting that you went to the Olympics! We watched them on TV every night, my favorite Olympics ever. I agree that sometimes you gotta push yourself a bit, it's worth it to have those kinds of experiences with your family.
JillThut, glad to hear of your good scan results. This year, I have pushed myself to do new things, even if I'd rather stay home. My son worked at a sporting goods store this summer & sold a lot of kayaks. It made him want to try kayaking, so we did a couple weeks ago. It was so much more fun than I ever thought it would be.
My son also went with me on a segway tour at a park near our town. First time on those things for us and it was a total blast.
My husband and I married in Williamsburg, VA over 20 years ago. We will visit there next week for the first time since the private wedding ceremony, taking our son with us. We'll visit the Atlantic Ocean for a couple of days, the three of us have never been there together. On the way home to Ohio, we will stop for a tour of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's house.
It's been such a busy summer, but I feel like the clock is ticking and I want to do so much. I still love down time and lazing around at home. I spent most of the summer organizing hundreds of photos taken over the years and stored on the computer. It was actually a lot of fun. And I washed and waxed my car and my husband's SUV, something I haven't done for years.
I guess for me it's about trying to find a balance.

Lovely to hear you have good times coming up and hope you get to enjoy every second!
I'm having major Olympics withdrawals (it's all I have watched on TV!)
My mum has come down from
Edinburgh for the week and my dad is driving down to do some decorating. My sister and niece are visiting at the weekend and maybe my brother if he gets back from France so full house!
Today (for fun - not!) I got my first dose of Havalen which given that they were saying i might not be able to have it cause of low platelets was good news. Yaaay! -
We just finished painting and having new floors put in the living/dining room. They look wonderful!
This week my DH and I are taking a ten day trip to Lake Louise and Banff. I love the Rockies, and we've never made this trip which everyone says is an absolute necessity.
I'm very excited, and I'm feeling well.
When I return, I'm scheduled for a CT and MRI- but I'm not going to give it a minute's thought until I get back.
-
Can I join in?
I got very excited because a teacher just emailed me, reminding me that I'd offered to volunteer for him and asked if I still wanted to, and if so, he had some statistical work he wanted me to do.
I was so happy I said yes, even though I suck at numbers and probably won't be able to do the work, lol
(My husband was a math major, he can help.)
And, we are going to Arizona in a couple of weeks. We have not had a family trip in a long time and we are looking forward to it. And yes, I know it's going to be hot, we are already used to hot.
My puppy is coming along nicely in her training. She sits always, she downs almost always, she has learned 'leave it" and "take it" and is just a big sweet love. She still jumps on us when we come home, which I am working on. I am going to give her a command so that she will jump when I want her too. I want her jumping on me when I get home, I like her all happy. But, even though she's only five months old, she can knock me down so she needs to be taught to be respectful.
I guess I've been depressed and maybe didn't realize it. So, I am going to concentrate more on the fun things. It's hard when you hurt all over and have nothing productive to do. Being off work is exactly like I thought it would be - boring.
-
Good to hear your news Ann. Sometimes that depression just sneaks up and vang you're in it and wondering how it got there.
Kick it to the curb and carry on feeling hopeful!
Lx -
K-Lo, just looking at that meandering stream lowered my blood pressure!
I also have been blessed with my first grandchild (see icon!) and I babysit him 3x a week, I walk on the boardwalk and swim, and my husband and I are leaving for Maine on Friday on our Harley for a week touring and eating.
School is right around the corner, and then I won't have much free time for anything!
-
Hey, Ann, congrats about the work at school. Maybe others will see you there and think of you when they need help, too.
Hard to stay depressed with a puppy in the house!
-
I'm reading this beautiful book called "Living Full Throttle" Its a coffee table type book. I'm reading it like a novel. Great inspiration. Haven't read anything like this in awhile. I love it. I'm not going on a conga ride across country but I am attempting to live in joy, more and more.
I mean, I only have so many days, have to work at the joy. Its coming!

Shaving my head. LOL! Shedding everywhere after WBR so DH and I get in the shower and went through about 6 razors. Back to 2 bald parents;-)
Decorating with help from my dad who has come down from Edinburgh. Tomorrow going shopping for sunshine yellow cushions to match my sunflowers.
Hot weather forecast for weekend so hoping to blend my new white head and radiation red forehead into something a bit more subtle!
Oh and sister and niece also coming down at weekend and you know as I type this I'm thinking, have I said this before? Hell chemo brain...
