Thanks nancy and reesie! I'm so jealous you get to go to the beach reesie one of these days I'm going to go too.

All of your stories are so great to read. It's wonderful that we are living and enjoying LIFE! Garden parties, baseball games, barrel racing, etc., etc.--thanks for sharing!!
Just got back from a week of family time at the beach--wonderful vacation, but, truly, there is no place like home!
-
Hurray Chele!
One of my young employees is a barrel racer, I told her about you and she is amazed! I'm going to tell her you won the Reserve Grand Champion. Oh how awsome! Any pictures?
-
Hoping it's going to be fun tomorrow.
I have been invited to go to meet some Members of Parliament (MP's) by Breast Cancer Care, which is a UK based organisation that offers support as this site does.
They are part of the Cancer Campaigning Group which is basically a bunch of cancer charities that have got together to ensure better care and treament for folk diagnosed with cancer. Tomorrow they will be discussing integrated care (or the lack of it) and wanted to meet some patients as well as representatives from the charities.
So get to get my glad rags (and Crocs!) on and wouldn't you just know it, after going on about how I have had hardly any SE's from Xeloda, I have blister on the ball of my foot. Still, the weather forecast for London tomorrow is not too bad so I get to see the sun shining on the Thames and the Houses of Parliament!
And Chele, I'd love to see some photos of you and your magnificent Blue too!

Alesta,

I'm packing my bag to go to California to see my grandaughter graduate 8th grade. She is number 1 in her class, something that has never happened in our family before. I am very proud. We're in the middle of a heatwave here so I guess i'm escaping to cool California.
She lives with me during the summer, so the two of us will be flying home together Saturday. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to a great visit and alot of love
When I booked this, i thought it would be my one and only time seeing her walk across the stage. Now, I'm kind of hoping for her high school graduation too.

I'm attempting to post pictures. Forgive me if I fail!
This is the only one my SIL got of my barrel run:

Congrats, Chele. After a whirl of grad parties, Father's Day,end of school year events, and a weeks worth of medical appointments I am now in summer mode. Sleep in and laze about in the morning, some housework, shopping, gym in the afternoon . Lots of neglected projects around the house but I'm doing them in my own time. Most importantly, there is my sweet little granddaughter. I can never get enough of her!
Caryn
PS: younger dd and are planning a "Tour de Ethnic Grocery Stores". Here in Silicon Valley we have everything from Afghan to Indo/Pak, Chinese, Japanese, Ethiopian, Filipino and much, much more. Can't wait . -
Chele congrats on winning Grand Champion! What great pictures, Blue is magnificent! Horses are such beautiful animals!
My DH, DS and I leave on June 29th thru July 5th for Disney World. We are excited, but I am worried about all that walking! May need my DH to push me around in wheelchair...maybe not...we shall see.
-
Great photos Chele!
Hope you both have great trips Soleil and Cathy
Caryn, summer mode and ethnic food - mmmmmm jealous on both counts -
Just finished a fabulous trip to Boston with oldest DD youngest DD and Granddaughter. Did all the typical touristy history type stuff and enjoyed every minute of it. There was a lot of walking involved but I managed. There are an awful lot of stairs in Boston though! Also got to meet one of our BCO sisters while there and we had a blast!
Next week taking the train to Savannah with middle DD (she couldn't get away for Boston) plan to do the same as above but she wants to go to a lighthouse now that's a lot of stairs!!!! Not sure I'm up for that. Oh yeah I will soooooo be avoiding Paula Dean's place.
Great pics Chele and congrats to you and Blue.

Off to the seaside on Thursday. It's the east coast, Norfolk England. I expect it will be bracing 8-)

Off to the Pocanos on Friday for a week. Need a break from work, treatment and all the doctors.... I will pretend I am not sick and act normal.....;

It was my wedding anniversary yesterday. OH and I went out for lunch to my fave Indian restaurant in Leicester then a 60 mile drive to Grantchester, outside Cambridge to a place called the Orchard which has been around since 1897 and a whole bunch of famous poets used to hang out there. We had a cream tea alongside the hoards of Japanese and American tourists / students who either walk or punt along the Cam river to get there then drove into Cambridge to see Moonrise Kingdom which was a fabulously funny and heartwarming film, shot in and around Rhode Island. Finished off with some Mexican and I am paying the price today in terms of my feet, bloating and the Big D! Still it was worth it and a lovely day.
Two of my friend's sons (who are both gardeners) are coming to sort the garden out over the weekend and put up some new fencing to give us a bit more privacy and then next Monday, the Olympic torch comes into our village and right past my house so will be out there with my flag, cheering wildly!
Stella, I will also be pretending I am not sick and acting normally
Hey Cromer - hoping the wind drops over the weekend (unless you plan on flying a kite!)

This is such a great thread. I have just read through the posts I missed when I was at the beach and have enjoyed living vicariously through all of you. I had a great time at teh beach and at this point have no other trips planned for the summer. May have to rethink that! I'm working on a quilt for my newest granddaughter who was born in January. I've made quilts for all my children and grandchildren so it's kind of an "obligation". I find I'm enjoying it very much. I do the scrapbooking also and have never finished my 3 kids scrapbooks so may get back to them. Nancy, loved the baseball pics and Chele, you are awesome!

Hi Alesta. I'm equipped for windy weather and our flat is toasty when needed. Expecting thunderstorms tomorrow. They are so exciting on the coast.

Fireworks tonight! We're going. We have quite a few to chose from around here. This is the first one , its very small town. A dinky band plays the 60s hits, folks come from 1 20 mile radius. Lots of brats and beer.
I'm bringing my own little single of wine and wraps for my vegetarian grandaughter and myself and we are going to lie on a blanket near the lake and watch the sky light up with sparkles.
-
Dancing tonight! It's a fourth of July eve dance! I was on the fence about it until I got an email from a gentleman I used to enjoy dancing with several months back....He said he is going and would love to see me there! Well I jumped off the fence and got ready! Feeling like a giddy teenager!
Oh...and I'd like to thank Gemzar for making this moment possible! It lowered my white cells so I couldn't get my infusion this week....meaning no side effects...and plenty of energy!!!! YES!!!
He has never seen me with real hair though....scary thought! Thank god it's not too humid so my hair is a little more tame than usual! -
Oh Jill that sounds like such fun :-)
I hope you have a fantastic time.
I used to go dancing every week but had to stop quite early in the whole stage iv thing as I got so tired, wobbly and short of breathe. It was something I always looked forward to, just made me smile and smile all evening. Finding a good dance partner is the best. How nice that he has got in touch and encouraged you to get 'back out there'

Went to the women's (girls, really) US Gymnastics Olympic Trials. I always get excited about sports that don't otherwise interest me much unless it's an Olympic year. The crowd was so enthusiastic and they had a nice fan fest in the park next to the arena beforehand. Younger dd and I did our Tour de Ethnic Groceries and had a blast. Arab, Irani, Afghan, Israeli, Chinese, Japanese,Pakistani and Indian were some of the highlights. We bought lots of wonderful foods and ended the day with Indian ice cream. Aw-e-gulab ( rosewater) for dd and mango kulfi for me. Having a family BBQ for the 4th. Gluten free raspberry cheesecake is done and in the fridge and my famous Asian flank steak is marinating. Every one else is bringing sides and younger dd will make salmon to grill too. Have 4th to all who celebrate and happy Wednesday to those who don't

Hey Laurie - happy (belated) anniversary!! Sorry I missed that earlier. Your trip to Leicester and Orchard sounds awesome...sounds like you live in a really great part of England. Glad you had a good time and you were able to completely forget cancer.
Jill - dancing sounds so fun!! I can just hear the excitement in your post, hope you have a GREAT time.
Caryn - how exciting to see the gymnastics trials. I agree, those "women" are such young girls, my little cousin, who is like 18 years old, competes at the national level and she is nearly retired, having just barely missed her chance at the Olympics. Incredible athletes those gals.
To all the US gals, enjoy the fireworks and 4th of July festivities. I'm dragging my hubby down to a big fireworks display tomorrow evening. He's grumbling about it because there will be big crowds, etc., but we've never gone to this event and it is "the" big fireworks display in Seattle, so I figure we better go. I know he'll have fun once we get there.

Sad times on the boards but needed to revive this thread...
Last WBR today and my weird teens get to watch the mask strapping!
Have been able to watch the Olympics and my beloved cycling on a teeny tiny telly in the flat which our friends graciously leant us (flat and tv!)
Went to see Spamalot in the west end which was fab. But before that, took Mischa, my 15 year old son to Zara to buy him his first jacket - posh/casual wear with jeans and a cool t. He then went down the underground ahead of me and threw a few coins into the amazing busker playing Georgia on my mind on the harmonica and singing. My heart sang at the fine young man I know he will become.
And while I have been worried about my 12 year old Marsaili turning into a bit of a preppy clone when she goes back to school she raised her game with a bobble hat and insisted on wearing despite the heat. Inky be getting my quirky kid back - fingers crossed.
Other highlights have include a short film about living with stage iv - hey no premiere but I'll let you know when it's out - and a jacket bought on the portobello road still with tags for £2 to cover the massive bruises up my arm from cannulation gone bad!
Also got to hang out with stepdaughter and her BF and today meeting with friends I haven't seen for a while.
Cancer sucks - but its sucking nothing good this week!
Oh and oddly - went to strange ice cream bar (horrendously expensive - £5 for 2 scoops - gasp) Tub 2 - breast milk ice cream LOL
Laurie x -
Alesta,
So glad to see your happy post and glad you revived this thread too. I need to keep being reminded to have fun. See you have fun and want some myself!
Sounds like you are having a grand time. What is a bobble hat?
-
I love this thread we all need a bit of joy in our lives. Well this weekend I am taking my little guy to a water park. I will be on all the rides with him. I am tired of feeling sorry for myself.
-
I love this thread
also. Since my dx in Feb, I did the first ever fun thing on Tuesday. The whole family went to Seaworld. I rented a wheelchair and my dh and dad pushed me around all day. But it was so fun, perfect San Diego weather, I did all the rides and because of the wheelchair did not have to wait in lines. It was so nice to forget about cancer for the day for the whole family. I am now thinking of taking the kids to Disneyland for three days next week if my fatigue lets up. We live an hour away and have been there a few times burnt my girls who are 8 and 11 love it. I am going to spend my disabilty to get a hotel in Disneyland so it will be an extra special treat for the kids and we do not have to drive every day. Kids always love staying in hotels. This will be expensive but a good memory making trip with the kids. My parents are living with me and it will be fun for them also as my dad has never been there. They just moved from India and will be staying here to raise my kids after my death. They are so down watching me sick and it was so nice to see them having fun on Tuesday. Will let you know if Disney happens next week.
The only bad thing about Seaworld was as I am getting on this water ride, the guy stops me as pregnant women are not allowed! He can see i am bald and sitting on a wheelchair. Hello. I do have a slight tummy which looks worse because I am flat on the top but I am 125lbs and 5 3'. I did not realize i looked pregnant:) He said it so loudly -I think my family was embarrassed for me but I was ok. -
My 2 grown sons and dh are walking 5k breast cancer race at fix chase pa on sun. After we will go out for pancakes. A great fam day
-
For fun I took the afternoon off work and shampoo'd my carpet! I know, I know, it's not usually something fun, but it needed it so badly. I also rearranged my bedroom. Hubby snores something fierce, so I bought a mattress and put it on the computer room floor, thinking I'd only use it occasionally. Well, sleeping with him just doesn't work. I HAVE to get my sleep so I'm in my own room permanently. Hubby and I built a platform for my bed, it's great to be off the floor! So much easier to get up in the mornings. I've neglected the house since my diagnosis. I don't like living in a pig sty so it's great to get at least something cleaned in it!
Tomorrow hubby and I are going to see Ice age! I LOVE this movie, so does he. I can't wait. We may stay for the Dodge City Days rodeo too, not sure. It's so blazing hot here.
Last Saturday I got to help round up some cattle for shipping. I love riding for a reason, not just to plug along. I even got lucky and was in the right place at the right time to stop them from getting away from us!
-
Great reading all these posts! Organizing can be fun too! At least the end result is.
Formygirls....glad you all had such a good time at Seaworld. It was good to read that. Have been keeping up with your perjeta journey. Hope you do go to Disneyland too!
Off to a Swing Dance! -
Swing dancing sounds like fun! Have a great time!
-
Bonus! Tonight I got to fignt fire! I feel most alive and useful on the back of a grass rig. I get tossed aroind, bruised, and full of smoke. Ahhhhhhhhhh the good life.
To clarify, not happy there was a fire - just happy to put it out.
