Alexandria - I'm glad I'm inspiring you, maybe you can inspire me too
Is the distance on your bike in miles or kilometres? -
Wabbit - you are brilliant at avatars!
-
Archie, er, chickadee, I agree completely!!!
Drinks are on da house. Dat way we can lubricate the masticating of ideers and such.
-
you'se the best, pastor!
-
I'll take mine with a little pink umbrella! I'm sure Edith would want one too.
-
Why thank you Athena! Too much free time
Still no rain here. In spite of that I just made 6 quarts of spaghetti sauce and have another bucket full of tomatoes in the garage ... and lots and lots of black grapes and cucumbers. We were watering the garden but have cut way back now. We have a well and I've never had reason to worry about it before but now I am. I have no idea how deep it is?
We walk our dogs at Sodalis Nature Park ... it's a bat sanctuary and is within the wildlife refuge area around the Indianapolis Airport. Didn't know about the bats at first and we always go in the day time so I have not actually seen any there. I do notice now the habitat for them throughout the park. Bats are OK ... but I have no desire to meet one up close and personal.
My sympathies for those who are visiting their dentists. If they didn't make so much money I would feel sorry for them ... nobody ever wants to go see them.
-
Yippee ... our bartender has arrived. And with free drinks ... that the best ideer of all!
-
HAHAHAHAHA!
-
Virtual margaritas on the way from Texas...........catch!
-
Got back from the dentist with a frozen left mouth. Went to dinner, ate ok and now no numbing, YAY. All in all it was not the worst experience I've had.
-
Aahh, dentists! It's not surprising that of all the medical professions, they have the highest amount of substance abuse and suicide -- maybe because they know their patients don't enjoy their visits? My BIL the dentist was obsessively neat -- he would spot a tiny piece of lint on the sofa and go over, pick it up and deposit in the wastepaper basket (I saw him do it several times!). He also developed bi-polar disorder and had to dissolve his practice. Fortunately, he had good political contacts (including my father) and spent the rest of his professional life in a provincial mental health facility as dentist-in-chief. Others are not so lucky.....
As for political talk at BCO -- when I first joined, the 2008 election campaigns were in full swing and I was fascinated by the intensity of the discussions here (yes, there was a thread for each of the two parties). But the intensity grew and grew and threatened to set a virtual fire here! So, even though we feel we can discuss politics in a grown-up and orderly way, and even though many of us feel the Mods are being overly restrictive in setting their limits, believe me, political "discussions" soon turn into vicious and nasty arguments, and nobody wins, posts are reported and threads are either locked or destroyed.
So.......be vewwy vewwy caywful what you say here!
-
Oke doke
-
We are constantly being watched! They love us. I can think of no other reason.

Would the Polish Universal Healthcare System be off topic? I happen to be getting a weird sort of chemo regime right now because of 25 BRCA positive women, in the Polish Univerisal Healthcare System, who were given cisplatin via neoadjuvant chemo and saw their tumors shrink to nothing, while today, someone misidentified Poland as a small government State. Would this be too political?
-
For some, the fact that we breathe is too political! hahahhahahaa!
-
Politics and Religion, alway taboo to talk about both in casual settings, yet I see a lot of prayer talk around BCO....I don't particularly subscribe to that activity, but I don't complain about it either.
-
I was delighted to see Lech Walesa, union activist and community organizer, so prominently featured in the news today. I well remember his union activities and community organizing helped bring about the fall of an authoritarian regime in Poland and contributed to the fall of authoritarian regimes across Eastern Europe. It was nice to be reminded of the power of unions and the power of community organizing to improve the lives of people and bring about positive change in a country. Sometimes we forget those who led the way.
The irony was not lost on me, although apparently it was on many.
L
P.S. Since I have a Master's degree in Soviet and Eastern European Affairs (yes, it was "Soviet" when I got it), I am merely making an observation as one whose education and early career was spent as a Soviet and Eastern Europe watcher and analyst. Although my career trajectory ultimately went in a different direction, it is nice to be reminded of what happened in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union through labor union activism and community organizing. -
I should think we could talk about any country's healthcare -- after all, BCO is open to anyone in any country! And we're all healthcare "consumers" <sigh>
-
I'm not apologizing for my political talk. Apparently only ONE person complained. That does not a controversy make. We talk about everything here.
-
I see no need for anyone to apologize just because one "thin-skinned" person who watches this thread like a hawk has to keep running to the mods. Some people just need to get a life!
-
Let me hear an AAAAmen, AAAAmen, AAAAmen, Amen, Amen!
-
I read the last five pages and now I crave fruity fish and have the strangest urge to floss and brush. Must be that big wad of tin foil in the night sky.
It's difficult to talk about current events without touching on politics. For example, the Koch-funded climate change study that concluded that climate change is not only very real but is largely caused by humans. I am sure this is not news to the drought-stricken States.
And hey, it isn't a dancing horse competition; it's dressage. A very tough discipline requiring a ridiculously high level of training, discipline, and cooperation. So there. :-p
Hope eveyone's dental adventures resolve easily, painlessly and swiftly. I feel for you all, especially Jancie! (That saddle is a perfect fit for me, by the way!)

Kira - I pretty much sleep downstairs in the basement now. DH heats up the bed. When he is not there with me I can stand it but once he is in bed - it is hot flash city and not the good type

I am washing my sheets every other day now and I can only stand cold showers.
Notself - I have a major sweet tooth - maybe that is part of my issue. I am definately going to cut down on the sugar and see if that helps.
Athena - I get what you are saying - the combo of hot flashes and Tamoxifen are killer. I have tons of joint pain and have been on narcotic pain meds for almost 3 years now.
Blue - Love Marilyn but one of my all time favorites is Doris Day - I can watch her movies a hundred times over and never get tired of them.
Alex5 - my favorite shake is banana. Guess I will have to think twice on that one. I have found some really low cal chocolate puddings that actually taste normal! I guess it will be broth, jello, pudding, and lots of potato soup - none of that is really low cal but then again if it is mainly liquids - won't it just run out of me?
-
Susie: My bike is in miles. I'm all for encouraging each other.
Scoot: Just for the record, not disparaging the horse or the discipline. I've ridden dressage - kind of - when I was riding English but not good enough - and too scared - to jump. The horse is smarter and more talented than the guy who owns him and says he doesn't even know when the competition is being held, because that's his wife's hobby.
Kam - We should also look at Israel's health care, - which someone - I forget who - complimented in a speech for only being 8 percent of the gdp, while not mentioning it has a highly regulated system, requiring everyone to buy insurance. Israel also has a higher life expectancy. Of course, in a country filled with Jews, there are probably a lot of doctors.

Yorkie -glad you're back and eating!
-
Yeah-I didn't get that whole "praising Israel's health care system while promising to dismantle the ACA" myself. Unless of course, one is opposing something purely because someone else is championing it?
I've been gone all day and I am just shocked that someone reported posts on this thread.

Mary
-
Mary - shocked??? too funny!
-
Oh and I thought any topic was open for discussion since we aren't on the active topic list.
-
Linda, a mad dentist working in the mental ward sounds like a Danish dogma movie, lol.
-
Reminds me - on the topic of films - Casablanca, an all time favorite. Some of the best lines in any movie, but the most famous:
Captain Renault "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here."
Casino worker hands him a wad of money. "Your winnings, sir."
Janice, Yeah, the ice cream type diet will just go right through - I've done a day's milk shake diet for colonoscopy prep - and it wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be. Maybe you could eat things like hummus, chopped liver, mashed potatoes, pea soup, yogurt, which would stay with you longer. (Still, not slimming though.)

My sister, who is a brilliant, well educated political leader here in Canada (is it ok to say that?) just sent me an email in which she forwarded an email from one of her friends/constituents who told her that she had mets to her brain. She is facing WBR and plans to use acupuncture and acupressure, essiac, etc. etc. to augment it. The friend was looking for donations to help offset the costs. I THINK my sister was trying to tell me to look at woo, because it worked for others according to her friend. Why does fear lead to such leaps of faith, and why into the arms of the unproven and unprovable?
