Sounds like the alleged sock puppets (is that wording appropriate?) must be complaining en masse to the Mods. Of course, it MAY just be two or three people with multiple ALLEGED sock puppets, but there's persuasion in numbers I suppose.

Mods, you are going after the wrong people. Please tell us which rule or rules were broken by Sunflowers and Athena and why they deserve banning.

    Chickadee,  Best of luck today.

Ah, we had rain yesterday, and the air is fresh and clean here in the Gulag.

What the hell is going on around here? I can't believe the BCO moderators would be so swayed by the sock puppet brigade. Don't they see how they're being "played"? You gotta know the SPs are in their little corners laughing their butts off.

Athena and Sun are not shy about verbalizing their points of view. That's what makes them assets to our BCO community. They encourage people to THINK, not blindly FOLLOW. And it seems when they discuss this with our moderating team, there are consequences. I hate what BCO is becoming. Feels like a nanny state...

Reminds me of a John Mellancamp song--"I fight authority and authority always wins."

My days on BCO are numbered, I'm afraid.

Edited for spelling and bad language.

Chickadee just got up and reading the thread. Best wishes for an awesome scan! Some things are a lot more important than BCO drama. Want to add that I too hope the bans are short and are friends are reinstated.

I'm sorry Athena and Sunflowers are on a ban and hope it's just temporary.  Two of my favourite people. I hope it's all sorted out soon and they're back.  Sending good wishes to both.

Sooooooooooooo. Have the mods relented yet?

I guess since Sunflowers didn't snitch, she's being punished.  And Athena, I can't make heads or tails out of that banning.

Well I'm gonna protest.  I am boycotting BCO until my two gals are reinstated.  I do know that if Athena's ban is not lifted, that she will have her membership deleted and all posts removed.  Maybe this was what the mods intended?

I will read for a while but this is my last post.  How's that for a whiner SG?

I have better things to do than be involved in totalitarian politics.

Chickadee, here's hoping for good (no -- FABULOUS!) scans.

I find the bans (now plural) disturbing and disappointing. As I said before, there is much nastiness and aggression on other threads that seems to go unpunished. I don't go elsewhere much, and I rarely post here, let alone anywhere else. But I have eyes and can (and do) read, and can fairly well identify posters with similar or identical speech patterns with different names. They also seem to be some of the nastiest.

I think the wrong people have been banned, and I will repeat my opinion that in the PM exchange that Sunflowers posted, Sunflowers was not the aggressor.

Kayfh, delighted to see you here. Hope you stay with us for a long time and that we continue to provide a home for those who feel they belong here.

chickadee, Here's hoping for great scans. I'm sure everyone here totally understands the fears that go along with scans.

I think any time someone is baned it's a sad day.

Sending big bear (((hugs))) to Sunflowers and Athena Cry  What my friends all said already ...

Wishing you good scans Chickadee!  The fatigue does get worse as you go along Glenna.  Hope you can take it easy and pamper yourself until you get done with it all.

Glad to see so many new friends!  Whatever else is going on elsewhere we have created a (usually) nice place on this thread.  Sigh ...

Question? Would a boycott do anything to change what has been happening here? I mean I know that boycotts work if we can reduce the offenders income by boycotting what they sell or do, but do they work if people refuse to engage in a website? If there is evidence that a boycott might work to change what has been happening here then I am a participant!

I think a PM writing campaign may work better. Or a letter to BCO sponsors.

    Just my two cents.

I'm been e-mailing Sunflowers privately.  She's banned until August 9.

Boycotting this thread will only serve those who don't like us anyway.  I like Scoot's idea better. Blue come back.

Time for the pinko-commie flexatarian gangsta band to rock the stand.

I wonder...were the forum rules ever updated to reflect the one-account-per-user policy?

ETA - I see that the rules were updated. There's a relatively new rule requiring us to ignore someone who attacks us in some way. You know, because it's the victim's fault.

Interesting question, Scoot, and it sent me looking for the rules....

My answer is -- yes, the rules have been updated with regard to one-account-per-user, BUT...

I could hardly find the rules! I had to go to the BCO "home" tab to find this: http://www.breastcancer.org/about_us/bco_commitment/legal_terms.jsp

Scoot, am I missing some link within the Discussion Board area?

If you click on discussion boards and scroll all the way to the very bottom, there's a link called "Community Rules."  THat's where the board rules live.

Scootaloo what would a PM campaign look like? I am unfortunately not a very savvy user of social media, but I can learn...and I think that situation at BCO, particularly as it relates to the ability of people who have a progressive world view to have and share opinions, experiences untrammeled by those who hold an opposing world view is particularly grave.

I was starting to change my,uneducated, opinion about Americans. I believed that You used to have a reputation as a country that took care of its own and (sometimes to the dismay of many other countries) some portion of the populace of other countries. I have seen it change from a we/us point of view to a me/my point of view, it came about because of the popularity of economic theories that thought the market forces should work to support the common man/woman, but provide a form of socialism for the very wealthy, that have since been debunked, but the damage and the ability to dig out of that hole is hampered by those who seem programmed to only think about themselves. I thought, when I was able to read the debate about the SCOTUS, that it would be an opportunity to understand America's apparent reluctance to have a universal health care system. That by reading posts from both sides, remembering that everyone of us has a particular interest in effective, affordable healthcare, I will gain some insight. And yes indeed, there were some incredibly intelligence, maybe brilliant posts on both sides. Then it degenerated into bs. And then got good again. And then bad. I wish I could say that the worst perpetrators were on the right, but both sides gave as good (bad) as they got. There were many attempts by posters to get back to the real issue. But it got closed down. A wierd way to treat adults. I would like to believe that democracy is messy, unwieldy but definitely worth preserving. Closing it down achieved nothing. It might have been different. Just saying.

Anyway, long story short, I learned that Americans are like everyone else, they are a heterogeneous group. And I learned that here in BCO. Maybe that is the best thing I have learned here (except for coconut oil for everything).

    Good morning cubs............

I know I am stepping into the den but I come with raw bones and organic grass fed only steaks for your entertainment............

In observing this war going on between Traditional Treatment and Alternative Treatment that seems to have moved into CANCER World Wide Web status........maybe you Traditionalist are going about this in the wrong way.......

I really do understand ya'lls concern about newbie's coming here and being influenced into not seeking adequate treatment..........

But coming to the den to bash the Mods (yes implying that you know SP(s) when you see them and the Mods don't) and talking in code is well just annoying............

If your concern is the newbies then maybe having a thread in the Newly Dx Forum or Treatment Options would be a place to intercept the newbies before they get to the Alternative Forum and let them know that Chemo is quite doable and exactly how serious breast cancer actually is and that treatment is not easy but that it very well may extend their lives by a great number of years ........instead of just hacking away at the Alt ladies.........it makes you guys come across as bullies........

oh and the same goes for the Alt ladies as well..........

but it seems to me that bc.org is damned if they do and damned it they don't...........they are going to get bashed if they allow the Alts to have a say and then they are ridiculed by the Traditionalist and then if bc.org doesn't allow the Alts they are bashed by them........

I must say that MidNight Cat's rant is as offensives as many of the rants made by the Alties at the rate a nonprofit site..........when you "lose" it your message gets lost............and your behavior becomes the story and not helping the very people (newbies) that need our help through our own experiences............are the real victims........

Bluester it has been a very long time that we have known each other..........(I am not sure boycotting is going to sway the Mods)......(Chuckling out loud)........I must admit that while you were away I missed you pi$$ing me off on a daily basis)..........again (chuckling out loud)

and I think the real words of wisdom was expressed by Bren (whom I also have known now for a long time).........

what really is important is our friendships here at bc.org.........we know we can come here and be with other ladies and a few men that have gone through our same experience with breast cancer.............I personally think it is the very best medicine.......it is the friendships and that doesn't come in Supplements or in Chemo.........

the continued after care which in many ways is more frightening then going through original dx and tx...........

and Mods if you read this please reconsider the banning of Mamalioness and Moonflower............do I agree with them?.........usually not...........but I will miss them if they can't come here to make fun of me and my friends at another site..........(again chuckling out loud)...............and I think their friendship and input to their close friends here at the yes/no thread is very important to the mental health of many of the cubs...........

ok cutlets I am going to slither back to my home base...........I really do hope things get straighten out here in the den...........

    Dear Breastcancer.org Community Members,

We feel compelled to explain what will earn a ban from the BCO community, as there appears to be a misunderstanding that it is connected to "disagreeing with the mods." This assumption is incorrect. The Moderators have the ability to ban at their discretion when a member becomes unruly, disrespectful, or disruptive. You may refer to our Community Rules, particularly rules number 2, 3, 6, and 8, to better understand what each member agrees to upon registration.

Calling out so-called "Sock Puppets" by name will, for example, earn a ban -- we can not prove those IDs are indeed a re-registration, and therefore have no right to call members out on a mere suspicion. When there is a clear disregard for the rules, even after being warned by a Moderator of the rule that was being broken, this will also earn a ban. When there is clear, repeated disrespect of the Moderators, or fellow members, this too will result in a ban. Without clear rules, and mutual respect for one another, we as a group, as a"community," cannot provide a caring, supportive environment.

We encourage you to private message the Moderators if you suspect "sock puppetry" or are concerned about a situation brewing on the boards. Please understand that as diligent as we try to be, we can't always prove that individuals are duplicates. We ask you trust that we are doing our best to protect and support our amazing, unique community and enforce our rules to the best of our ability.

If you're bothered by, or disagree with, a post or a poster, we suggest that you either do not read their posts or threads, or implement the Block function. As in the non-virtual world, you will not always like everyone, or everything that is discussed.... We could only be so lucky to have a real-world Block function!

Lastly, we encourage you to focus on what's important -- your friends here, supporting others, sharing helpful information, and taking care of your health and well-being during and after your breast cancer diagnosis. We can only have a successful, supportive and encouraging community through working together, and remaining kind, helpful and respectful.

Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding,

    The Moderators
