Mods, I'm very sorry you did this. Sunflowers was a wonderful BCO member. So sorry you are not with us anymore Sunflowers.
-
Wow! Sunflowers? That seems harsh....
Mary
-
)))Sunflowers((((
Given the exchange I read, it seemed exceedingly harsh and unwarranted.
If anyone has her private e-mail, could you ask her to message me on Facebook. I have a page for Flat Fest which I'm helping to organize in NY - www.facebook.com/FlatFest2012. I'd like to keep in touch, especially if we have a get together in Vermont.
-
Alexandria, I just sent you a PM.
(Now I remember the kinds of things that have caused me not to post here so much anymore...
)Waving hi to all the wonderful members of this thread! Including all the newer commenters who probably don't even know me!
-

Me and our resident Chaplain and Bartender today in North Carolina!
-
Bren and Cherryl, what a beautiful picture!!! Thanks so much for posting it, Bren!
-
Moderators - I see nothing in that exchange that would warrant banning. That's my opinion, ofcourse. I hope you will undo this for the sake of BCO.
-
Thanks Ann ... we had a great time today. We got together at our dear friend Brenda's house. Even though Brenda is dealing with Stage IV and the effects of chemo, she was a perfect hostess and lunch was fantastic. There were four of us today and we all met here on BCO.
Apparently, I missed all the hoopla that happened today. I'm sorry to hear that Sunflowers has been banned. She is such a sweet soul. Regardless of all the crap that is going on, BCO has been a wonderful experience for me. I've met and become friends with the most fabulous women in the world. I'm so lucky to have had this opportunity.
I've been blessed to participate in many get togethers by BCO members and I've made lifelong friends. If any of you ever has the chance to meet up with your fellow sisters, I highly recommend going the extra mile to make it happen.
hugs,
Bren

I just got in. Had to go run some errands with Ray. What the Heck! I'll brb in a bit.
-
Moderators - adding my voice to the hope that you re-instate SunflowersMA to BCO. She has been a wonderful and reasonable voice.
I hope you don't ban me for this, but I don't know anyway to contact you other than by posting in this thread. I must say that in my opinion Sunflowers was not disrespectful to say she didn't want to get involved. And, though it may not be obvious to you folks as to who the sock puppets are, it does appear to be obvious to some posters. You chose to ask her to "report" someone. She opted not to do so. I don't believe that declining to identify someone who we consider to be a sock puppet is grounds for banning on the BCO rules. If I am incorrect, please let me know, as I'd like to re-read that portion of the rules of engagement.
-
Please reinstate Sunflowers. The sock puppets are easy to spot. Just check the controversial titles and there you go. They only start these threads to start trouble. It's not rocket science.
Bren, you look great! I love you gals.
OK gotta go, I'm cooking my zucchini,
-
The thing that gets me about this is....SUNFLOWERS???? I mean...SUNFLOWERS??? Of all people... She is not a major rabble rouser, as far as I have seen. I am stunned and very disappointed. I would think that even if her actions were really that bad (which they really don't seem to be), that of all places, bco would understand that there are bad days and people sometimes say things they might wish they'd not said. (Not that I think this happened in this case, but I am really stunned by the quick turnaround on this. It's not like Sunflowers has been causing problems left and right, as far as I know, anyway). Sigh...
-
Agreed. I never saw Sunflowers start a flare-up.
-
Well, they banned Black-cat who I repsect, so go figure.
SUN - we love you!!!!
-
There is a huge quantity of meanness and snark in other places on these discussion boards that goes unchallenged. IMO, Sunflowers is neither an instigator or responder and banning her was over the top, especially given some of the outright nastiness I've seen elsewhere. In the exchange as reported, it didn't seem that the aggressive response was Sunflowers'.
But, as others have said, your board - your rules and your criteria on applying them.
L -
I know susie and its those same troublemakers that went after Black Cat that are damaging this site. There must be a lot at stake for them to go after people here and elsewhere.
-
Black-Cat has been banned too? I didn't know.
-
The good news is that I am in touch with her privately and also with thenewme - special ladies
-
Bren:
Thanks for posting the pictures - you all look terrific - glad you had such a nice visit - you're right meeting other BCOrs is indeed a wonderful thing.
-
Guess I'm having trouble figuring out how we "non-techies" can figure out the sock puppets and the mods can't - something's wrong here!
Also thought mod's response to Sun was out of line - no need to be that rude.
-
It's almost as if the mods got Sunflowers mixed up with someone else. Maybe they did since they can't identify the sock puppets.

She's one of the most non-confrontative, supportive people in these parts.
Mary

If I was not on some real serious antidepressants, I would be in tears right now. :-(
-
208sandy, you're right, we can usually identify sock puppets (we see IP addresses). So, instead of hinting or accusing others of sock puppetry in public posts, we encourage members to PM us with their suspicions so we can check. Just because someone seems to know the boards and their personalities *too* well, or shares someone else's point of view doesn't mean they're a sock, and it's not right to publically suggest they are.
The Mods
-
Moderators,
The software should be able to sort members by IP address. Give those with multiple addresses a warning with instructions to delete the multiple identities and stop setting up sock puppets. If a second offense occurs give them a six month ban. On the third offence give them a permanent ban.
I was a volunteer moderator on a site much larger than this and we had no trouble spotting sock puppets this way. We always gave punishments on a scale of first, second and third offences. It took some really crazy or vile comments to get an automatic ban. Heck we had to notify the police on a couple of members. Being a moderator is a pain in the btt. I wish you well.
-
Some can post from their phones, or don't have a static IP address, so that cannot be totally relied upon. As mostly an observer, it is easy to see who is a sock puppet. For instance, how does Natty(whatever) know my daughter is a lawyer? For a fairly new member she seems to know a lot! Most of these gals are just here to make trouble. Very easy to see IMHO. They know exactly how to word their OP to start a controversy.
-
And now Sunflowers is paying the price.
Notself, at the other forums I belong to, first multiplte account = you're out!
-
Please reinstate Sunflowers.
I've sent you my second PM on the subject of this sock puppet. Actually, it isn't possible for you to verify this because ISPs are not always identifiable. Please read my PM, and don't ban Sunflowers. We've identified the troll before and this troll has had loads of other people banned because YOU are technologically unable to identify her (not your fault - it just isn't always possible).
Ok, Mods, let's do something:
In the Noel Coward play "Private Lives" a divorced couple is trying to patch up their relationship. They finally agree that when conversations are about to devolve into arguments, they will utter a code word that will serve as a signal to "stop" the person in their tracks.
That code word was "sollocks."
I propose the following: if we see this sock puppet posting --if we see self proclaimed patzees (sic) ad rainbows and ponies flying about, noticeably in the DCIS, Alternative or Comments forums, we can say "sollocks" after her post.
Any fool with:
--access to several devices,
--a preference for chiropractors,
--a penchant for deriding chemo in front of those who choose it
--a preference for calling DCIS non cancer or a condition not needing surgery,
--a habit of questioning the intentions of posters who favor conventional therapy,
--a keen eye for jumping in with self-serving postings when there is strife,
--a person with no conscience who has never met a lie she wasn't wiling to tel and is even capable of posing as Stage IV, and
--is laughing at you mods as we speak.....
....can become this multi-named troll.
Mods: You don't have proof that we don't know - don't ban Sunflowers when you don't have proof that she isn't right - if that's why she was banned. I've been absent for a day or so, but I just saw yet another thread locked. Same person., Thinking it's Mind Over Matter (remember her??? The childish pictures?)
One sociopath is undermining this web site. Remember Jayson Blair? Those people thrive on manipulating, lying and cheating. Don't ban an honest poster to protect your sense of "no proof" while allowing this snake to roam free.
-
Funny thing is, if you call them out by name, they report you and you get banned anyway. That's how I've gotten banned everytime.
Mary
-
Good point, YramAL.
Do not accuse others in public. Not by name, not by some codeword. If you're bothered by what they have to say, don't read their posts/threads. Or use the Block function.
