Wow, SAS, that's incredible. Thanks for all that info. I'm not running to the drugstore tomorrow, but will have my MIL pick something up for me, along with some yogurt! I'm going to call my PS tomorrow and see if they can put me on something else. These feeling are awful. I'm dizzy, blurry seeing, light headed, and itchy...
I'll do some reading myself, and thanks again for the link! -
Lauren , you just changed the scenario---you added many more symptoms. The itchy if it is total body itching That throws the drug into ---Stop now category b/c that says there has been a histamine release---which puts you into the allergy category. Frankly, the best thing you should do is call the doc on call . Tell them your symptoms Start with itchy first if it's total body itching---------If it's vaginal itchiness that goes with the vag infection--I wouldn't call for that. BUT If you have itchiness randomly about the body , it's as I described in the first two sentences of this post. Hope you see this before you signed off. Reread this a couple of times to make sure you understand the flow of thought.
-
Lauren Come on back if you've seen this last post-otherwise I'll worry
-
When everything is said and done that damn keflex does work.
-
Granny it does, it does, Whats amazing too is it's been around since the 70's but hasn't become "Resistant". But once someone has reached the --allergy phase, there are alternative drugs --Clindamyacin being the first alternative.
-
Dunes was working on Laurens post, just saw yours now. Lets lean together. I agree our MH therapists are a godsend when we need them. Your Battle plan idea ---good, I need to do that too. Good choice not to drive on pills. Your Moms idea on the exercise is good, but this sounds like a commercial--- check with your doc's first. My h/f center reqiures a release to return if something has gone on. So, far I'm not released, but getting close. Thanks for this afternoon, your message was a boost
And if you can't make the last two weeks--remember you are first, in the space of all time, they will survive.
-
Well 51 minutes------Lauren, I'll worry all night---well won't not follow instincts again--here. This afternoon I wanted to ask more questions----I backed off. Total bummer. Sometimes I get into this medical stuff and feel like I'm being too pushy. Love you gals lots and I get that you get me when I get going. So, will keep watching for a bit. Hopefully, you will read this before your am pill about calling the doc. Don't take another pill until you talk to them. Just kind of taking up space now hoping you will post. La di da.... hmm ..........
Now--11:41 Lauren your in the same time zone so, you are most likely asleep or on a computer off for the night mode..... The info's there I'll just have to give it to God that you will get through this uneventfully. L&H's SAS
-
LOL Sas. I'm sure she'll be fine. I remember the panic I got into when I started itching from pain meds. I started worrying that my throat was going to close up on me. I was a mess. Have I mentioned I have an ongoing problem with anxiety, even before breast cancer, lol? Anyway, Lauren may be having a histamine reaction but I'm sure she will call for help if she has trouble breathing or anything serious like that.
10.5 hours to shrink. Ooooh boy. If you don't hear from me, I'll be in a local looney bin. LOL. Must be careful of what I say, must be careful of what I say, must be careful of what I say . . .
I have my AC running. I've been worried about turning it on because of the money, but it is really hot. My head is all sweaty. I intend to have a good night sleep. So, the AC is on fairly cool. It's all going to be OK. There is no reason for me to sit in this house and sweat. No yet anyway.
Have a good night all.
-
Dunes I did the same thing with A/C today. Take a almost cold shower. Works nice. or run your head under cold water.
-
SAS...Our caring and loving sister...hugs from my house to yours...♥
-
Sheila to sheila Have missed you HUGS back-sassy
-
It was humid in the afternoon...but now it's perfect...even a nice breeze which is an unheard thing for NY..........Good Luck dune with your MH appointment....mine is the end of the month......
Next week MO...then Mammo follow by MH and Dermatologist...hopefully if everything is OK I'll be free from all these......
-
sheila ---a milestone.---- Yeah. enjoy the breeze. I see MO too this week and we get to figure out summer plan for all doc's to get there tests done at the same time. Fun >>who wants what piece of me.
-
Okay the computers off for the night. Dunes your right Laurens a smart chickie, she will call Ems if things change that much. Duh---yes
-
Well, up couldn't take my nightly sleep helpers b/c of the patch........
So, Dunes I was slow to catch your description re: not worrying about a histamine release. Sometimes it's just a histamine release. I too get them with oxy>>routine same way everytime. Nose itches. But with a new drug the reason to notify the doc is b/c a histamine release can be the beginning of a cascade in the allergic response. There are approximately 12 steps in this cascade. The cascade can occur in minutes..i.e.a peanut allergy, the outcome is full blown anaphylaxsis. Most people are well aware of stories of peanut allergies that's why , I used it as an example. There can be an intermediate level cascade that can occur from (pulling from along ago memory) of 2-5days, and a delayed response cascade of up to 7 days. So, involving the doc early when symptoms occur when on a new drug allows the patient to be guided by the doc. Key difference.
Also, the types of s.e.'s reported can indicate severity of response, as you noted about throat and breathing----feelings of throat swelling and chest tightness with difficulty breathing /shortness of breath>> the call is not to the doc, but to 911. For completeness, if at home and landline is available ---use land line b/c most communities have enhanced caller I.D.----address, besides name&phone. Hmm need to check and see how this is being managed with so many people going to having just cell phones. Is it like so many forensic shows, locating by GPS or triangulating off cell phone towers----where's McGee when you need him.
Hang in there, for your MH visit. I'll be here in the morning and log on when I wake up. If you want to chat by phone we can I'll Pm you my phone number. My phones bundled so I don't pay extra for long distance. so, I can call you back if you aren't bundled.

Good morning starshines!!!
For everyone who feels like crap, drink some extra water! It will do WONDERS for some of the people's ailments I've just been reading. For those who get panicky, breathe deeply a few times. General notice: All us on the East Coast had a shitty day yesterday on account of the weather patterns.
"What's Up Doc" with Barbara Streisand is funny slapstick, when my brother and I saw it in the theater ages ago, some people a few rows in front of us had to move becuz of our racket laughing.
Thinkin of you Nancynow. Love to all my sisters, Gail
-
Good morning. SAS, thanks for your concern. I was actually sleeping - I fell asleep before I could sign off for the night. The itching was not full body, just vaginal. Which has, thankfully, stopped. I did not take my 4th pill of Keflex last night. I was too worried that I might hallucinate or something. I'll try to eat a decent breakfast this morning then take my first dose. Followed 2 hours later by some yogurt... Hope to keep that itching away!
Dunes - good luck at your appointment today. Hoping you end up back here, not at the looney bin ;-). I feel at times that I should go see a shrink. It's been a long time since I've been there, but I find that's the one place I can let it all out. Where Im not being judged for all my craziness. I'm controlling and have rediculous anxieties. Let us know how you make I through, I'm sure you'll come back great!
Sheila - I'm enjoying this nice NY morning with my windows open not listening to the AC blasting. Not sure how great it is for my allergies or headache, but enjoying it nonetheless.
Hugs to you all. Enjoy the day! -
Lauren, I figuired you were asleep, the positive is everyone has a better idea of signs and symptoms to report. Lol's and I got to use a few gray cells. Use or loose 'em. My pain patch is working wonderfully except for the sleep, but that'll work itself out.
Gail, yes the reports on hydration and muscle pain are well established now. Weather wise we had an amazing few hours of dry lightening, then a wee bit of rain.
Has anyone got any advice on new PC versus laptop. And what would I buy if I wanted something just for banking. Separate from the play/online unit. Can I get my printer to print from wireless. Clueless about the mechanics.
Have a great week, everyone !!!!
-
SAS - i have a MacBook and love it. It takes a little time to get used to the apple versus PC, but well worth it. THere are printers that it is compatible with to print wirelessly, although i have yet to get one. And i like that i can sync all my Apple products together. If you're looking something just for banking, what about a netbook? They're definitely more cost efficient than a full scale laptop...
I only have taken one Keflex this morning preceeded by an okay sized breakfast. Will eat some yogurt soon to try and ward off the unpleasant itching below.
Anyone know of games either online or ipad apps to play alone where i dont have to wait for someone else's move (DrawSomething, Words...). I'm getting bored already and am almost through watching all my DVR'd Big Bang Theory...
-
Lauren - I play mahjong and solitaire daily to challenge my brain - it was the one thing I did through chemo - every day without fail. My nook also has a geobee geography game that I play.
-
Lauren thanks, Ill be getting two products. This old girl is a 2003 Dell that was rebuilt to 2008 innards after a virus. I"ve had a virus for several weeks now. Killing one File/app(?) everytime I turn it on. I won't be transferring any Data to the new equipment. I figure with the cost to fix versus new ,with the age >>it's time to just get new and do a better job at virus protection. Do you use your Macbook in bed? Two real positives if that's a recommendation I hear is good>>>I can elevate legs, electric bed , the vibrating probably won't work as well ,probably would jiggle computer too much---the other positive is I wouldn't smoke as much cuz I don't smoke basically anywhere in the house , but sitting in computer room.
I have a router already, That's a requirement to be wireless and still connected to cable????????? It's going to be allot of questioning.
It sounds like your netbook is an apple too??? My SIL swears by her Apple PC which I'd forgotten until you said it.
-
sas - both my kids have Macs (laptops) - they love them. They are less prone to viruses as well as most viruses are designed to invade PC files. We have a new Dell desktop with a massive monitor, I also have an ancient HP laptop that I used to tote to my parents when I was caring for them. I requested and received a Dell netbook - love it for traveling. I gave DH an ipad for Christmas a couple of years ago - he loves it, especially for emailing and reading in bed. DD has an ipad2 in addition to her Mac laptop that she won at a Xmas party in a raffle.
-
MacBook, I'm using right now in bed. Since you have a router, you don't need anything else to connect wirelessly. The AirPort on the Apple connect automatically. it will detect anywireless within range. I have a PC for work and the MacBook is so much easier with the wireless. Its almost a computer for dummies.
the netbook is some little piece of garbage, which was inexpensive and my husband uses for the most part. Really just for internet (hence netbook). It has MS Office on it, but the screen is too small for any of that junk. I would use that for the banking.
Everyone I know who has Apple stuff loves it and swears they wont go back to the PC. I have my MacBook and an iPad which is by me at all times. If my pictures are on one, they're on the other... And my Apple TV, they're all just so easy. You would think I work for Apple how gung ho I am on it... (I dont by the way)
-
Lauren, good for the bed-- yeah. Ipad???? What and why?? Is the netbook available through Apple too? Is Apple tv in bedroom? Doesn't have to be Is it available wireless.?
-
sas - netbooks are PC, mine is a Dell. Very tiny and great for travel or using in bed. It is like a smaller version of a laptop with a regular keyboard. iPad takes some getting used to - also small but it has a touchscreen keyboard. All work with a wireless router.
-
Morning SK...----and Lauren who do you recommend buying through Best buy, staples, walmart. Thoughts?
-
Thanks.....
Off to med records to pick up labs......
-
sas - Hi!
-
If I could afford Apple, I would probably consider it. However, I would also have to replace some very expensive software if I did that. Apple was pretty pleasant to work with in school.
I like Dell. I have a desktop and and laptop, both Dell. I've had HP and Compaq. At work we call them Comcrap. They didn't last very long. I would get rid of my desktop except for the fine speaker system I have with it. One day, though, it will go. I bought several external drives, so I would still have plenty of storage.
-
i got my Apple stuff directly through Apple, but i know Best Buy has good support as well. Apple TV is wireless - Im sure everything is these days. You can't replace a computer with an iPad, but its a good second. Apple does not have a netbook. I think we have a HP.
Isnt HP and Compaq the same now? I have to say I hate Dell, but that's from a bad experience long ago. Im sure they're better by then.
