Ohhh...those sound so yummy!

Researchers in an Australian university are testing different components of spider venoms to see if they can come up with a targeted biologic drug. Venom components from other spiders and snakes are already used as medicines. We can't be squeamish about these things as venoms contain powerful and unique molecules.
Spider Venom May Stick To Breast Cancer Cells
Baking soda is also being studied to see if making the tumour a certain Ph would help chemo to be more effective and also so MRI's can show the tumour more clearly for diagnostic purposes. A $2million grant has been made to the researchers in Arizona University from the NIH. This is what alternative practitioners have been saying for decades and now it's being taken seriously.
New Test Found for Effectiveness of Baking Soda as Breast Cancer Therapy
Great stuff! And definitely not "alternative". And if you're diabetic and having a hypo, your doctor may inject you with snake venom (snake oil?). The lines between conventional and alternative are blurring to the benefit of medicine and all of us.
-
Really interesting Joy - but makes me feel creepy just thinking about using spider venom. Still it's good there is actually real research going on.
-
Riley, good to see you again.
Convert, Whoo Hoo. Sorry I wasnot sooner to pop the champagne. Was in a yoga class to get all stretched out in order to deal with Sophie the Sadist personal trainer. Will have a glass in your honor before turning in.
-
Wooooohooooo Covert!!!
We should make a drink called B9 to celebrate such occasions. A latte with Bailey's? ;-)
-
Alternative treatments subject to scientific research and protocols are great. Finding the best method of delivery and identifying the possible side effects is part of that. Foregoing conventional treatment in favor of baking soda and molasses (or maple syrup) is just foolhardy.
While compounds in baking soda, molasses, snake venom, spider venom, etc. may actually turn out to be a CURE (and wouldn't that be wonderful??) there's no evidence supporting that now, at least not in their current delivery methods (orally or through enemas).
Just my two cents.

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts. It has been one hell of a week. All 9 bx's were positive. Heading home today. Need some major hugs from DH! Starting big guns on Friday, but so not ready to begin this fight again. Really need to get my head in the right place, it is going to be a long summer.
-
(((((Scuttlers))))) Hoping the big guns persuade NED to return. We'll get out our big guns too and go hunting for him for you. In the meantime, we'll be right here for humor, venting and ... well ... chocolate and listening. And the occasional fish, abalone, or zebra. No enemas, though -- plenty of crap elsewhere ...
(((((Hugs)))))

(((Scuttlers))) Just hugs. That's all I've got and hope for great things.
I love that this thread is a place for good friends to get together and support each other, so more hugs
-
Scuttlers....too huge a hug to put into words. Try to treat yourself to something nice today/tomorrow before treatment begins. Maybe a great meal or something you won't be able to do once tx begins...
Any ideas for scuttlers?
A Totally Relaxing Spa Treatment?
That $3,000 purse you've been eying for ages. :-) ?
That park around the corner you keep saying you must visit and never do?
We're here to accompany you.
Pre-sending soothing balms for your soul so that the tx won't be too harsh on you.
You'd better take a huge bag with you if you are having infusions or visits for rads because there's a lot of us who want a ride - and the Wabbit has big ears, and Susie needs enough room so that her nice hair won't get messed up! I will try to bring small-ish game. No buffaloes - promise.
-
Scuttlers - huge, gentle hugs to you my dear.
-
oh Scuttlers, many many hugs......
-
Scutters .. sending a huge hug your way this morning. I hope your upcoming treatments aren't too hard on you and get you back to NED.
Susie .. we'll be with you for your mammogram. Hoping for benign unremarkable results.
Tim was in an accident in Kentucky. Some lady plowed right into the front of his truck. Messed it up pretty bad. No one was seriously hurt, which is good. He managed to get the truck back to the yard yesterday and today he saw their workers' comp doctor. There was something wrong with his knee. He's got fluid in it and it hurts. The good news is they got him a replacement truck and a run to Miami today. He's got a bullet wound in his one knee, so I sure hope it's not that knee that's bothering him.
Hope everyone has a great day,
Bren
PS .. Athena .. you're probably loving this weather! It's only in the mid 50's today! I want springtime back!
-
more gentle hugs to Scuttlers - please do GOOD THINGS for yourself. We're in your corner - looking for NED with you - and filling your pockets with everything we can think of to help.
Bailey's B9 sounds good. Also lots of Naughty NEDS - what shall we put in those???
-
(((((Scuttlers)))) sending you gentle hugs and lots of positive vibes. We are all rooting for NED to come back.
-
Hugs to Scuttlers.
Boring mammo results for you Susie, if you please.
Hugs to Bren and Tim. I hope his knee gets better soon.

((((((((((((Scuttlers)))))))))))))))) - we're here for you sweetie. Make sure you do have plenty of room for us in your bag - I really don't want my hair to get messed up. Athena's suggestions are excellent - spoil yourself.
I'm sure I'll be really boring - it is only 6 mths since the last one - had to do this to get the MRI separated out seeing I had all 3 in October. After this they will each be yearly but alternated. I'm looking at it as a rest day from work.
-
I forgot, I have a hair appt this afternoon - not sure if it's cut or colour as I've got 2 appts - the other next week. Have to split them so I can fit them in after work. Can't wait to growl at my hairdresser - why didn't she tell me about this fantastic treatment a year ago!!! Still loving it every day.
-
((((((((((Scuttlers))))))))))))) positive vibes. I so hope the treatments bring long NED's for you.
-
Bren - yikes, and phew!
(Yes, loving the weather.)
-
Oh Bren
I had a gyn exam and worked on the taxes today. Now I have a big glass of wine.
-
Bren! Holy crap! I'm so glad he's largely okay. How frightening!
-
I'm back - hope you all enjoyed the cake - it wasn't prepackaged but must be cooked by volunteers - really yummy. 4 long hours later - I'm very boring. They called me back in twice for extra mammos on the right boob - freaked me out. The ultrasound lady said she couldn't see anything - bless her - but I could see they had a spot circled on the mammo. Then I got called back in for the third mammo. After more waiting a lady finally came and gave me my films and said I could leave - what a relief. I got really pissed off when I got there as they were calling in women who arrived after me - WTF??? Turns out they were checking because I'd only been there for a mammo 6 months before - could have asked me - duh.
Bren - sorry, forgot to tell you I'm glad Mr Tim is OK - lucky he's in a big truck.
Relieved Susie -
Susie-so glad to hear your good news. It sounds like it was an experience that could have re-curled your hair though! Last time I went in for my mammo, the tech had me wait while the radiologist looked at the films. She came out and motioned for me to follow her to a private area-my heart dropped. Turned out she just wanted to give me the news in private that my mammo was clear. I thought I was going to pass out.
Mary
-
Mary - good point - lucky it's still straight. I was watching women get called in by the breast physicians and realised they probably were about to get biopsies. Now I'm relieved they didn't come for me.
Steve is MIA - probably gone to golf - could have told me or left a note. I reckon he was waiting for my call and then decided it was OK to go - I did call after the ultrasound.
Just went out and bought some reduced easter chocolates
-
Oh, the blessings of a BMX (deniability, for one - lol!) Susie, so glad it was all boring!
-
Athena - I am starting to value the idea of a BMX believe me. We'll see how I go but every 6 months is a stressful schedule.
-
Susie~
I'm right there with you on that...
My next mammo is in May.
-
Having a BMX was a strong, overwhelming gut feeling for me. I made my mind up as soon as I left the BS office. I didn't want to be lop sided so I could go braless. I didn't want mammo's for ILC which let me down. I didn't want to be prodded and poked. I didn't want the worry of a recurrence. But I'd miss the sensory side. Easy decision, no regrets. But I respect those who made other decisions.
