Sherry, I'm glad you got to take your trip! I remember when you thought you might miss it. Hurray!
Have a good week, everyone. Will thinkg good thoughts for you all.
-
I finished on Friday 3/30!!! Had a fun celebratory weekend but am feeling the fatique this week. Other than that and my under arm soreness I am finished!!! yea!! Continued healing to all of you!
-
Caroline, sorry to hear about your melanoma diagnosis. Hang in there Sister... Fight on and healing thoughts and prayers headed your way!!!!
-
Hallalujha, I am done!!!!!!!!! The techs gave me a certificate and a shower of confetti, I whooped so loud that the doctor and nurses came running! I had to do a happy dance and hug them all!!!! They said that was the best reaction they had ever had, I was really? Isn't everyone thrilled to be done? The certificate says for completing her course with high honors and good spirits, they left off the part about crankiness and poor spirits. LOL
Of course then I coughed in the changing area for about 10 mins. but it was so worth it! Next on my plate is figuring out the lung issue then onto Arimidex. But for now a celebratory nap!!
-
Huge congrats mlm and macatacmv!!!
Caroline, so sorry to hear about the melanoma diagnosis. So much to handle, thinking of you!
-
Congrats to mlm and macatac!!! So glad everyone is done or so close!
-
How is everyone doing the week(s) past your last rad treatment? My blisters are finally healing. Luckily none popped, so infection wasn't an issue. Sooooooo good to have chemo and rads out of the way. Just started Amiridex this week with only a little nausea for SE. I'm sure more will come when the estrogen is shut off.
Good luck all with rad recovery.
-
I'm 2.5 wks post rads and continuing to heal up very nicely. Skin is just lightly tan in some places, in others, almost back to normal color. doing well in terms of rads recovery. Starting chemo next week.
-
I have one small sore left, but it gets smaller everyday. Since I peeled, blistered, or something worse over just about my entire treatment area I am very happy with how it all looks today. I hope everyone else is doing well!
Caroline--still thinking of you!
Dancetrancer--I hope that you get through chemo with VERY minimal side effects. I went down that path of my journey before rads.

Had my checkup/follow up appt. with my RO today. I brought cupcakes from Frosted Cupcakery for the whole crew. They were stoked. Made me feel good.
My RO said I am healing nicely. Only one small spot left to peel. The peeling made my incision scars look so much nicer! Almost like a laser-peel. I can barely see the mastectomy scar now although it was small to begin with...it is around half of my areola and about one half inch straight down. Can barely see the half inch down part as well as sections around the areola. Yeah!
He also told me, after looking at my latest PET/CT, blood work, tumor markers and CTC test that I am now officially NED!
Keeping my fingers crossed for a loooooooong term relationship with NED. -
geegster - how interesting that you say the peeling made your incision look better...I was thinking the same about my MX incision! I haven't peeled much, but just in general as the tan/redness goes away, I am looking at my scar and thinking wow it looks a lot less red than it had prior to rads. What a fascinating, unexpected benefit!?!
HUGE congrats on being NED!!!!! Wishing you a VERY long term relationship with it!!!
-
hi everyone, I can now join the group of finishing rads. Friday was my 28th and final! Congrats to all of us that finished
I had 2 long delays through mine, one for 5 days due to stitches not dissolving where the snb was done so the BS had to lance me open to remove them. And the 2nd was 10 days due to being so burnt in the snb area. But it's done now!!!
-
Huge congrats rabbit!!!!!!!
-
wooohooo Rabbit!!!!
-
Yea to all else who are done! My lumpectomy incision looks better, too! My skin is healed. There is slight discoloration-brownish-that is all. No more tenderness 2 weeks post rads.!
-
My lumpectomy scar looks so much better, too. Much less noticeable than before rads. I am almost 3 weeks out from my final tx and am amazed at how quickly I have healed -- from looking like chopped meat to just slightly pink in a short time! No tenderness either. Hurray for all of us who are done!
-
doxie, sherrybaby, dancetracer, rabbit, nancyjill, mim, chicago and geester!!!!!!!!! ((((hugs)))))
YAY!!! for getting thru rads! Congrats everyone who is finishing and starting to feel better. I am one week out. I went to the PCP today and everyone said how much better I look and sound (still coughing) makes me wonder about how bad I looked before. LOL My skin is getting better, and yes my scars also are less noticeable because the skin has darkened. My doc put me on prednisone for 10 days to get my lungs uninflamed. Man, I hope this works. I want to go on vacation in 2 weeks which is funny because I haven't worked in 2 months. Just to get away will be glorious and if I feel well it will be heaven.
-
macatacmv--i hope you get to feeling better quickly so you can enjoy your vacation without that cough!
I have been with the same company for 23 years so when I came back after being off work for 3.5 months I still had almost 3 weeks of vacation left to take before the end of May. My boss was not happy but since our VP doesn't allow ANY vacation rollover to the next fiscal year he had to suck it up and let me off. We are heading to New Orleans next week to celebrate the grandbaby's 2nd birthday (I have two older stepdaughters to go along with my 20 year old).
dancetrancer--thinking about you and your chemo this week. I really hope it goes as smoothly as possible.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the week, Sherry

Thank you sherrybaby - 1st tx today was a huge success - no allergic reactions which is EXCELLENT for me, b/c I am so prone to that.
One interesting thing...I had to premed with dexamethasone yesterday...this morning woke up to a pink L radiated breast again...the radiation recall happened just with the steroid!!! (Usually it happens with adriamyacin.) My doc had never heard of this. It doesn't hurt, just itches a bit more. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse as the chemo gets into my system further...
-
DT - my boob did the same thing, my onc says its from the decadron - I got pink cheeks too
-
Thanks Relda! My onc suspected it was a similar process, but hadn't actually heard or seen it before. Thanks for sharing!!!
-
Hi All, Glad to see you all still here on this discussion board. Dancetracer, the decadron gave me an "ants in the pants" feeling ... I thought I was crazy until the nurse said it was normal. I am so glad you have all healed. I am peelilng in my last spot which is the lumpectomy scar. I'm still using sulfadine cream but I am only 1/ 1/2 weeks out so expect to be healed shortly. Anyone else having a lot of fatique? It seems I am fine for a few days and then it catches up so I have to take time to sleep. Macatacmv....you are almost done!!!!
-
mlm--I am still extremely tired. I try to make myself do one physical thing a day, but it is a huge struggle. Since I went back to work I have found that that the later it gets in the week the more tired I am. I am working from home today because I just couldn't face the commute this morning. Glad to hear you are healing well. I hope everyone else is still moving along okay!
Dancetrancer--I hope they warned you that you could have an allergic reaction even during later treatments. When I was doing my Taxol tx I made it through two with no problem and then went into anaphylactic shock with number three, but then number four went off without a hitch. Chemo just sucks. Other than the radiation recall I hope you are doing well with it.
Mactacmv--hope you are feeling better each day!

Hello fellow rad gals,
I am 9 days out. Still have moments when all I can do is sit on the couch. I am very shaky on the prednisone. I also have times when I am very sad. But I am going to OT and walking the dog once a day and trying to get back to "normal" activities. The stretching exercises are working wonders on my range of motion now to strengthen the muscles. My job is very physical and it will take some time to get the stamina back.
Sherry have a great time on your trip. Grandbabies sound like so much fun. They are still in my future. Family is what life is all about.
dancetracer thinking of you.
This recovery business just takes longer than I thought it would. I am starting to have more optimism about my trip. Heck I get excited just taking the dog for a walk and feeling the sun on my face.
Hope you all have moments of pure joy today.
-
Sherry, I did know that...trying to block it out of my mind, LOL!!! But knowledge is power, so tell me more...I guess they stopped your anaphylactic shock or you wouldn't be here! Goodness! So, what did they do - immediate meds, etc.? did you have to go to the hospital by ambulance or were you in the hospital for your infusion? Did they do something different to prevent future ones? I have benadryl and dex in my premeds. Inquiring minds want to know (and learn what to expect if it happens!)
sorry for the thread derail all! And thanks for the encouragement!
-
dance--i got my chemo at a cancer center. the chemo room had little tackle boxes marked 'anaphylaxis' all over the room. they just grabbed one, gave me a shot (i never asked of what, but assumed epinephrine) stopped the chemo, hooked up my flush bag, put me on oxygen and then waited. after about 30 minutes of taking my bp and pulse they hooked me back to the chemo but just did it really sloooow. The worst part was that i scared my poor daughter badly. My mother had been going with me to chemo from the beginning, but she had a conflict that day and since my baby was in town she went with me instead. She said my face/neck/chest were blood red and she could tell i was unable to breath.
The next time i went they just did the infusion really slowly. I took dex at home and then got it and benadryl as a premed. I read that it is not the Taxol that causes the reaction, but what they add to it to make it water soluable.
I am also sorry for the thread derail.
-
sherrybaby thank you so much for the details. I would much rather know what could happen and how it is handled - thank you!
-
I have 17 more RT's left, the last 5 being boosts. Can someone who's gone through the boost part tell me how it's different? I know they zero in on the actual spot, but how is it different from the treatments I've been getting?
-
lalere-- the RO came in the last day of my regular treatments, did some measurements, and then drew along those measurements around my scar line. The techs then basically made a tracing of that same shape. When I came in for the first of my boosts the machine had an attachment on it with what looked like a piece of styrofoam at the end with the shape cut out of it so the only part of my chest getting radiation was where my scar was. Be prepared because the attachment will be much closer to you. Since there was one blast of rads it was so much quicker. I also didn't have to turn my head to the side anymore, but still had my arms over my head. Hope this long explaination helps
-
sherrybaby--Thanks so much. Yes, that's the info I needed. I do great as long as I know what to expect. Just ready for this all to be over.
