Carrol--LOVE your beautiful hair!  Reminds me of the Farrah Fawcet (sp?) hair style when I was a teen. I think it's made a come-back, so you're totally in style! ;)

I can't remember which thread I saw this on, but some ladies were taking Biotine I believe to help with hair growth.  Is this something you take during chemo or after you are done?  Thanks!

onvacation, I took biotin supplements during chemo to protect my nails and am still taking it while my hair is growing in. I also am using a biotin shampoo that I also used during chemo.

Thanks Nancy!  Where did you buy the shampoo and supplements?  What strength did you get? Can you get them at walgreens or somewhere like that?

Kim, you can get the supplement at Walmart or target and probably walgreens as well. The shampoo I got from amazon. My husband is in the shower so I can't tell you the name of it

at the moment lol. I'll look at it and post it.

Is biotin safe during femara treatment?

Momine, I don't know. I'm taking femara and my mo hasn't said anything about it. He knows I'm taking biotin.

Thanks auntie, that should mean it is ok, I guess. I may look for it, because I would like to keep my hair and get my nails going again.

Wendyspet, This was the first time I went to to this lady (or a professional in general)  and I'm a bit nervous about saying something.  Since the hair coloring is the fade away type, I'm hoping it may lighten without her having to use any kind of chemical.  If it still bothers me by next week then you're right... I may have to ask.  I think a lot of this is the fact that my hair is so short and I've never had this in my life.  Always had long hair and either bangs or a part to the side.

Right now my hair is growing in kinda forward in a pattern that just looks wrong to me.  I know I should be happy about having hair again, but it's like waiting for a bad cut to grow out :-(.

The biotin shampoo I use is by Avalon Organics. It is paraben free.

Rockym--I know how you feel.. whenever I do something "different" to my hair I usually ask myself why did I do it.  Many times I will get compliments from others about how much they love it while I am hating it.  I do find that after about a week or two of looking back at myself in the mirror I begin to "adjust" to the new me.  Much like I did when I was bald--super had to see it at first but ended up used to the new me.

Carrol: Thank you for sharing and encouraging me with your new pictures. I am looking forward to my hair growing. I am almost seven months PFC and for I while I thought that my hair was not going to thicken. My hair's growth is slower, but it is happening.

It's so great to hear that I was able to be of some encouragement. Yes it is kind of Farrah Fawcett, it grew in, all in layers. If I turn it under I look like Dorothy Hamel, leave it curly and I am kind of like Felicity, and I'd rather be Farrah lol.

I took biotin after I finished chemo. My MO told me not to bother with it until after I finished treatment. There is not much you can do while in treatment when your killing those cells that make hair grow. But as soon as my last treatment was done I started biotin and the nioxin shampoo.  I did use a clear nail polish with calcium in it during treatment. I think that may have helped my nails. I put a fresh coat on before each treatment.

rockym I had a semi perm color to cover the grey done when I was at 4 months I felt the same way. it was so dark to me, especially when I was blonde before.  My boss said I looked like Betty Boop lol. It looked a lot less grey as it grew in so I left it.

It is very encouraging to see some of you ladies with your new hair post chemo, you all look so great.  I had my final chemo treatment almost 3 weeks ago now and even before that I had some noticeable peach fuzz growing on my head.  It is very soft, not rough like stubble, and I like to feel it with my hands.  So it seems possible that hair can start to grow back even before finishing chemo.  My peach fuzz started to come in after my fifth treatment.  I was so worried it might not grow back so I feel relieved now.

i'm new to this forum & find it super encouraging to see pics of new hair after chemo!! i had 4 DD's of AC & then 4 DD's of Taxol - my last was March 22. i noticed regrowth (peach fuzz) March 18 & now have just about a 1/4" (oh yes, i measured it) of many white & some dark brown super soft hairs. i've only worn my full wig once because i feel so strange in it. my friends tell me it looks good but i think it just screams: look at me, i have cancer & lost my hair!! i DO wear a Halo with a cute cap but i must say that now i'm into month 4, i'm really getting tired of the same look every day (i have multiple caps & two Halos). when it comes down to it, all i want is for my hair to grow so i can *topless*. i'm now massaging olive oil on my scalp each night, ordered Biotin pills, Avalon Organics Biotin shampoo & hope to start Latisse next week.

I have also been so encouraged by the pics and postings of so many of you.  I'm 11 wks PFC today and have almost 1/2"  in back but not near that amount in front -- I look like I have a receeding hairline.  I have read posts from some of you about going topless and, while I am not there yet, I did go shopping over the weekend with just a ball cap on -- it was the most liberating feeling ever!  I guess I'm at the point where I feel like my scarves & wig just scream "I'm sick" and the ball cap made me feel like I'm me again.

Thanks to all of you for being an encouragement.

Yvette-or anyone who wants to comment, did you lose eyelashes/eyebrows with your DD chemo regimen? That's the regimen I'm on. I have one more treatment to go. I finish April 17. I just wonder if everyone loses the brows/lashes on the DD regimen.

11 weeks PFC and I've gone topless!  Feels unbelievably great!

All I can say is you will know when you're ready. I have full head hair coverage and it wasn't like I was going to wear my wig until it was completely grown in! So - for Easter Mass- no wig! Yeah!

i gradually started losing my eyelashes about one week before my 4th/last Taxol (3/22) & most are gone now. the eyebrows started falling out after my last chem & i now look ridiculous if i don't fill them in. i attempted to use MAC false lashes yesterday but what a disaster, lol!! a bit too much glue & the lashes didn't seem long enough. i couldn't get them in the proper spot close the lash line either. i decided that during the week while i'm at work i'll only wear eyeliner + shadow & give my lashes a break :)  i'm going to start using use Latisse for lash (& brow) growth next week - i need to get an rx for it.

Yvette, I did 18 weekly txt of Taxol and lost my brows and lashes, too. I had to learn to draw my brows on for the first time in my life and then tried the false lashes, even though it wasn't recommended because the glue could irritate the sensitized skin. Well, I almost glued my eyes shut, or glued them half way up my lid. I gave up and just used heavy eye liner and hardly anyone noticed. Be careful with the Latisse, it can cause permanent eye colour change. Honestly, I wouldn't bother. My Mom bought me two different lash/brow treatments (and made sure they contained no hormones, as some do) and I found that they worked to strengthen my lashes and brows once they returned but nothing to help during chemo. Luckily I used my Elasto-Gel cold caps and still had my hair.

Does anyone know how to store your wig after you are done using it (it's real human hair)??

I am hoping I will never have to wear it again but I was to hang on to it just in case and I want to make sure it stays in good shape!

EmmaC: those prenatal vitemins helped my hair grow back so fast! I am 18 months PFC and my hair is past my shoulders now and I have even had a hair cut! I did take biotin but it made my face break out.

CHH-Congrats on going topless!  When I said that in front of my son he had a very worried look on his face....I told him --without wig silly!  he was very relieved-LOL

SKD I have my wig in a shoebox in my closet. OMG be careful if you do that. I've opened the box forgetting my wig was in there (expecting shoes). It looks like a dead animal!
