Michelle, you are looking absolutely terrific! Bravo
-
michelle, your hair is fabulous! you look so cute and happy.
-
Well my hair is getting longer but it's still so fine and thin on top and thick at the back. For those of you ahead of me on this journey ( 10 months since my last chemo) when does our hair return to something akin to normal prechemo texture?
-
Emily - my hair's texture is pretty much back to normal, and I am six months PFC. My guess is the answer is different for everyone. I've always had a lot of hair, but it was always fine textured. That's about how I'd describe it today.
Thanks everyone for the kind compliments. Yesterday I visited my mom in her assisted living home and two of the residents (who I hadn't met before) told me I was beautiful. I know it's silly to take what 80-somethings say too seriously, but I have to admit it made me smile. My mom answered that I was beautiful and nice. Now, that word "nice" meant even more to me!
I asked my daughter yesterday if I needed to get the back trimmed. She said if I am worried about getting a mullet (which was my concern) that the back looked just fine. So I guess I'll hold off for a while.
-
Ladies, I think sometimes when we receive complements, especially me, saying we are beautiful, how great we look, etc, and I ask my daughter, really they said that? I am finally beginning to believe that what I have gone thru with this hellacious disease has made me really appreciate life and maybe that is showing thru. I am not happy to be going thru chemo and facing rads but I feel like I am happier now than before. ( for one thing, this got me out of a bad marriage which is another story in itself). What I'm saying is I think some of my true inner feelings are showing on the outside and that makes me really happy.
I was told at a restaurant the other night, "I love your turban". I told my friend maybe she was really liking my scarf and had no idea I had no hair.
So many of you here are so positive and really owning your look. Rock it out strong ladies!
Going today for treatment 10 of 12. Counting down the days! -
luvRVing..
You look great as always.. I am a month behind you and have a lot less hair than you (I blame it on Herceptin)
Had my Herceptin treatment yesterday and three of the nurses came over to compliment my hair... Starting to not be so self conscious about my short hair (wish it was fuller though) Don't know if any of you have this strange experience, but my hair seems to want to curl on one side and just a slight wave on the other side.. Wish it would make up its mind..
-
LuvRVing, love your hair!
Ossa, at least your hair is dark and not mostly white! I have come to terms with my gray and sort of like it, but it does age you! Still, I don't think I will dye it anymore. You look great by the way!
I have the same issue with the waving, curling thing. It is waving in the back and sort of curling on one side. On the top it is growing in all different directions. At this point I am just going with it... at least it is hair and it is mine!!!
My eyelashes are finally making a come back! Woo hoo. I have been using Latisse for 6 weeks.
-
About the compliments, I decided a while back that I don't care if it is a drunken bum who breaks out in a smile and tells me I am gorgeous. If I made his day, it is all good and I take any and all compliments gratefully in the spirit offered.

It's been alittle over a year since m'hair fell out.Last chemo was June 3, 2011First photo is taken August 8, 2011.Second one September 8Third one January 3, 2012Fourth one February 18, 2012Last photo taken today: April 4, 2012I do color my hair. I use a rather light blonde color but it always comes out a bit reddish, which is okay with me.My bangs are taking so long to grow.....during the day when I get hot flashes and my brow sweats, the bangs curl up. I spend time in the morning babying those bangs by using hair gel/wax/paste and blow-drying them 'just so' to get them to lay as flat as I can get them. They still always want to curl a bit to the side. When I get a chance, I am soon going to print a photo that I took of myself about 6 months before I discovered that effing lump.
-
Me in my hey day, Summer 2011 *wistful feeling*
-
Divine - your hair is adorable, and getting very close to your "heyday" look! I agree that it seems the bangs take a long time. Your color really suits your skin tone, too.
-
You ladies look so lovely! My former hair was very thick and grew very fast. Now, it's growing much, MUCH slower than it used to, and although I do have a decent amount of hair, it's so curly that it mostly appears to be growing up and out, rather than down.
-
anafoefana.. My hair is also white with gray and black mixed in????? Never had black hair before,, Always been a redhead.. Strange what Chemo does to your body.. I decided I was not ready for the tricolour hair... So my colour is from a box
How is Latisse working for you? I started using it about a week ago... Bourgt it from my PS... His receptionist is using it as well, she told me to make it go further she puts one drop in lid of bottle, uses brush on one eye, then another drop in lid and use same brush for other eye. Hoping it works
Thedivine mrsm
You look great good colour on your hair
-
Thedivine, You are almost back to you hayday... You look great!! Did your hair come in straight? or curly and you straighten it.
-
tracie, my previous hair was flat and bone straight. This new growth is very thick and wavy. I don't use a curling or straightening iron, just wash, use hair wax and blow dry then lots of freeze spray.
MizMarie, my hair seems to grow up and out as well, I use lots of hair product to tame it. When I wake up in the morning it looks like I stuck my finger in a light socket, it's all puffed straight up and out.
-
Thanks for the photos ladies it is so encouraging. Did anyone find that one chemo affected hair loss more than others? I just finished 4 A/C treatments over the past 12 weeks and in a week I begin 12 weekly Taxol treatments before lumpectomy then rad. I have eyebrows - no loss and 3/4 of my eyelashes and a great wig. I just joined this group today. great insights and encouragement!
-
Welcome, Brooke51! I was on Taxotere, and the drug information sheet I was given listed "total hair loss". That wasn't quite the case for me; my brows and most of my lashes stayed with me until after chemo ended. About 6 weeks after chemo, my eyebrows thinned a fair amount, and over time, my lashes fell out - thankfully, not all at once. I was never completely without any, and they started to re-grow very quickly.
-
Welcome Brroke51
I lost my hair during A/C and it started to sprout during D/T lost my eyelashes and brows about 4-6 weeks PFC (past final (or insert your own Fword) chemo
Wish you an easy treatment.. Make sure you rinse your mouth with salt water rinse during your treatment.. This is to hopefully prevent mouth sore
-
Thanks Ladies - Have you ever used any lash growth product? I used LiLash for two years and had great results with very long and thick lashes. I am wondering if this helps after chemo or if you have to wait for a period of time? I also want to use a brow product and get them tattoo for extra color (I had it done 7 years ago but sun bleaches them out) We need a fascial hair expert - anyone?
-
Hi Ladies! Can't wait til I am officially one of your group, but actually I am at the other side right now. Loosing the final bits of hair just after chemo#2. My question to you experts is what is the best care I can take of my shiny new bare scalp? Do I wash it? Do I moisturize? Any input welcome. I have heard of coconut oil, and have some here now.
Thanks for any thoughts! -
KCB I washed and conditioned my bald head lol! Sometimes I would put cocoa butter on it, but basically I just used reg. shampoo and conditioner. And as soon as I was finished with chemo I started using the Nioxin products.
For summer make sure you have a head covering and use sunscreen.
-
KCB - I had a tiny bottle of shampoo for chemo heads that I used every couple of days. Do what feels good to you! And yes, with summer coming, be careful of sunburn.
-
Hi brooke51, I lost all hair on AC but kept brows &lashes. On 12 weekly taxol/herceptin my brows &lashes thinned a lot especially after last treatment. Hair started growing back in my head tho. Yesterday was 9 weeks pfc for me and my brows &lashes are thicker than ever. I plan to wear wigs for months to come, but im shocked by how much hair I have already. Good luck with your treatments - ask your MO how soon after you can take biotin and biosil. Mine said to wait til treatment ended, but all are different im sure.
-
My stylist at hair salon said to keep using a moisturizing shampoo on my scalp so that it doesn't dry out. Losing my hair was awful and one I want to forget but I have to say it is much more comfortable with a smooth scalp and easier to sleep then the bristles that hurt to touch.
-
I wash my scalp with baby shampoo and then I use a regular conditioner. About a week ago someone posted that they use olive oil. I am now trying putting olive on my scalp for an hour before I shampoo.. I will try anything. Thanks for all the great tips...
Has anyone had TCH and not lost their eyelashes and eyebrows? I have had 3 treatments and so far no brow or lash loss..
-
Eileen - I have had four treatments and no eyebrow loss and a few eyelashes. I think I am going to keep my eyebrows but dont' know about eye lashes given I have a new drug for 12 weeks. Who knew I could get so excited about keeping a few hairs
-
This morning as I was getting ready for work I got really frustrated because my mascara was clumping on my eyelashes.
Okay...HOLD THE BOAT!!! I have enough eyelashes for my mascara to clump on!!??
So now I'm spending the day batting my clumpy eyelashes at everyone
