Chemo May 2011

Hi. I have lost my eye lashes and would like to use fake ones until mine come back. I actually "froze" my head so I was able to keep 70% of my hair through taxol- then FEC. I had thin fine hair to start with so I didn't take the chance. I actually didn't lose my brows or lashes until I started to get lazy about freezing them too during chemo. Had I been more deligent, I would have kept them too -- I just am so tired of the routine. I am glad I kept my focus on my hair though! Which fake eye lashes were easy to use for you? Suggestions on a brand or kind to get? Thanks and all the best.
-
Reno I used whatever ones looked the most like my lashes. Splurge on good glue though! BTW - I'm 8 months PFC and going thru my second round of lash and brow thinning since they came back in!
-
hi mamav,
i read your last message and funny, because my eyelashes shed again, a month ago. is that something expected after chemo? i was thinking it could be a tamoxifen side effect, but maybe not.

Hello friends, it's been a long time since we got together and chatted
I got my first hair cut about two weeks ago because my hair was so uneven that it looked like a goat had chewed it off! I took a pic of Halle Berry in and my stylist did a nice job although I didn't leave looking anything like her hahaha. I was starting to get very discouraged because I felt so rotten but I seem to have taken a good turn now. I think about all of you and I keep you in my prayers. ~Laura
-
Laureen - I've read from several people, especially on the hair boards that brows and lashes shed every three months for two years after chemo. So far I'm right on track ... None until 2 months PFC then shed at 5 months and 8 months. It's like the damn cancer doesn't want us to forget about it! Mean!

Cyborg -- I spent end of February in the hospital with round 3 of infection - Cellulitis. It's definitely high risk factors from Radiation and chemo. I hope it's not going to be chronic. I've had four 5 day hospital stints and the antibiotics are really draining. I had to leave work and back on leave now. Stress can cause infections to erupt as well. We don't have enough reserves from all the chemo and radiation to fight of these infections. I'm staying positive though that Feb. was my last cellulitis round.
March 23 was my cancerversary. I'm not sure if I'm feeling better today than during treatment. Arimidex did a nasty one on me and my Onc gave me a break from it for a month. I had a neurocog test done that showed serious chemo brain. With all these meds and post treatment recovery it's really hard to tell what causes what.I am just happy to be able to rest at home.
Hugs,
Katarina

Hello everyone! It has been a while but after an infection after rads when I lost the TE it took a time to get back to feeling normal.
Now I am preparing for a bilateral DIEP at the End of April. Not fair just when feeling healthy after a year of TX. But as a public patient I am grateful to get reconstruction without it costing thousands.
It is lovely to see everyone recovering and growing hair!!! I had my first haircut last week - very grey and artisty looking short do - it seemed a shame after spending so long growing it!! Love having eyebrows now, never did get the hang of drawing them on naturally!! And one always seemed to rub off and give me the crazy woman look so common to BC ladies lol.
Cancerversarys all round. I have had this TE in for 12 months now- it is half inflated but very uncomfortable not looking forward to next weeks expansion.
((hugs)) to everyone - Robyn
almost a year for our May chemo group! -

-
Let's all cyber hug. It has really been a year.
-
Sending hugs to everyone. What a year!
-
I agree. What a year. On March 21, 2011 I was told I had Breast Cancer and on March 21 , 2012 I was told I had 2 brain tuors larger one 4cm smaller one 1.5 cm.
I am thinking of skipping March 21 next year. Well Maybe not, Maybe we will just have a great day instead!!
Take care everyone
Candice
expect me to be MIA for the next week, we are going to Disney World!!
-
Candice -- I'm so sorry to hear you are not really celebrating. We're here for you. You are strong so please stay strong.
Cyborg -- thank you on the cellutitis prayer. I came close in March but it missed me with the antibiotics I was on. February was last bought and I'm betting that will be it for good.
I can't believ it's been a year but you are right...Happy Cancerversary everyone!!!
Hugs

Is anyone here still suffering from chemo fatigue???
I went off all my meds for 6 weeks and while I got closer to my old self it was a "one day at a time" issue. Today was a couch day due to fatigue.
-
Still have some chemo fatigue, but exercise helps with stamina.
-
Thanks Cyborg. I'm glad to not be alone but sorry you are suffering still. I exercise but note I don't have as much stamina as I did while I was in chemo treatment. Isn't that odd.
-
just wanted to check in and say hello : ) all is going ok i feel like a 90 year old lady but i still do everything i love doing so i am sayin yes i am good : )
-
hello everyone, I have had my ups and downs for sure as far as fatigue but I am feeling better right now. I got off of the pain patch and the lexapro and that really really helped. My exchange surgery is on Monday! I will be so glad to put this chapter of my life behind me.... God willing!
-
Beaglesgirl -- best for your exchange. I felt so much better after mine and so will you. I get my tatoo and nipples next week and then I can call it all final. Long process isn't it.
Justme1 -- you sound like how I felt on Arimidex -- 90 years old. I'm on Aromisin now and so far so good.
Hugs

Congrates Beaglegirl.
Is anyone coming to the end of herceptin? I'm a little nervous about the end. Going from every 3 weeks to see you in 6 months seems scary. Is anyone else feeling this way?
Thanks Tracy
-
Hi, everyone. I am taking feraston. It is an anti hormonal. I sure feel the cumulative effects. Most recently, I have sore feet--- like underneath. I am exercising nearly everyday and working too. Still scared. This board has been "my place" to be.
Beaglesgirl--- you're looking fabulous. -
Hi Tracy
I had my last herceptin in May and I will tell you it seems strange not going to the infusion center - it was kind of a security blanket going every 3 weeks for a year. Everyone I have talked to says it is natural to be nervous when you complete herceptin, but we have to trust in the fact that herceptin took care of us.
-
Its been 8 days since my exchange surgery and I made it even though -I think it was alot more painful than they said it would be. I look back at where I was this time last year and I can't even believe our frail bodies have the capacity to recover from so much abuse! Still, thank god for treatments- I'm triple negative and I was scared it wouldn't work because there are no 'after' treatment plans for my situation.
Right now I am recovering nicely and in fact my MO put me on Bio-identical hormones ( very light ones) to try and restore me a bit) after the hysterectomy I had in December. I know that within days I felt better. I see him next month again- he told me that because I've had a BMX, total hysterectomy and am triple negative this is the best route for my quality of life. But I guess there is no silver bullet to restore our sense of security. That comes with time and faith which we pick up a bit at a time if we are mindful about it. So far I've struggled a little but working on it!
Cyborg- thank you for your kind words!
~Laura

Beaglesgirl, I understand that insecure feeling when you got when chemo ended. I felt the same way last August when my active treatment ended. Recovery and moving on really are one-day-at-at-time processes. I wish you peace and happiness along your journey.
