Hey Everyone .. I have great news!

The refi on my mortgage was accepted.  We close next Thursday with a percentage rate two points lower than I'm currently paying.  Yay!  And what's so cool about this is the loan funds April 1st and the first payment isn't due until June 1st, so I have two months without a house payment.  hooray! Then the house payment will drop by $140 a month.  I'm going to  celebrate by going to the dentist!

    hugs,

    Bren

Well, SIL got her results. Mixed bag-the lump that got her the MRI in the first place turned out to be nothing of concern, but she had another small "mass" show up in a different place. So now she has to have that area biopsied next week. More waiting........I think she is the perfect example of why celebrities should not go on TV and say that because they have had a double mastectomy, they have no chance of the cancer coming back.

    Good Morning Everybody!

It rained hard all night and the sun is peeking out now.  Everything is a glorious color of lime green!

Mary .. I'm sorry to hear your SIL has to have another biopsy and more waiting.  Sending you both big hugs.

Susie ... You're right .. we're never safe.  My best friend had the exact same diagnosis that I had ... and her cancer came back at year six with mets throughout her body.  It breaks my heart.  Next week is my five year anniversary, and I get more scared as the years go by.

What's everyone doing today?  Been missing lots of regulars .. hope everyone has time to check in today.

    hugs,

    Bren

Rosemary .. sounds like a fun day.  My youngest grandson is 4 years-old too.  I hope you're feeling better.  I know the asthma has been kicking your butt lately.

    Morning Everyone!

I bet Athena is enjoying the weather today.  It's only 62 degrees here and chilly.  It's been raining nonstop since yesterday.  Last night we were in a tornado warning.  It was pretty scary as it was hailing and the wind was blowing sideways.  One did touch down about 25 miles east of us.  Of course, Tim called a hundred times nagging me to get to the basement.  I can hardly wait to get the NOAA radio. NOT.  Who needs one with Tim calling constantly with updates on the weather here.

I'm hoping I get some work in today.  My one client usually dictates on the weekends.  And it's too wet and rainy out to walk the dogs.

Hope y'all have a great day,

    Bren

Sounds like our storms headed your way Bren.  Yikes on the tornado ... that's too close for comfort.  I'm not going to ask if you actually went to the basement.  Don't want to make you put the answer in writing on the internet where Tim could possibly see it Wink   It's cooler today but nice and sunny.  Hope that heads your way too!

I need to go to the store.  Thought I could put it off a few more days but the list kept growing and DH is out of all of his favorite junk foods.  That qualifies as a disaster in some quarters so off I go.

    Happy Sunday!

Bren - 25 miles is close enough to send me to the cellar ( if I had one) - think it is SO SWEET of Tim to be worried about you - and hope you WILL get to the cellar when it's close.  Seriously, just seeing the destruction of what's happening from tornadoes in this country - terrifying.  Hail, sideways rain, GET THEE TO THE CELLAR!

Much cooler in Ma today - only in the low 40's - but finally a bit of rain.  SO dry around here, there have been a few brush fires in the forests near by.  Put out quickly - these volunteer fire departments are amazing.  Towns really co-ordinate their efforts - great team work - and they react so quickly. Still, we need more rain.

Went to a wonderful watercolor painting workshop this weekend - such fun.  I'm really loving learning how to draw and paint. Nicest part of getting older, to me, seems to be, enjoying being younger, doing the things I never had time for before.

Sunflowers .. your class sounds like lots of fun.  I had so many years of training in drawing and painting.  I never paint anymore, but have discovered how much fun it is to color.  Dover has some wonderful coloring books that are perfect for adults.  I use Prismacolor pencils and am enjoying blending the colors .. and just being a kid again.

Oh, Bren, I need to try that.  Coloring for adults, from Dover books?  More things for my wish list.  I do need to find a way to reach out to my right brain. :)

The weather here today was as fantastic as it gets. The high was in the mid-70's, with a sunny, blue sky and a light breeze.  The weather guy just said our average for the date is 72, so we were just slightly above that.  We had 1-1/2 inches of rain from that system that moved across the country a few days ago.  Everything is all nice and green now.  I love love love this spring weather.

Bren - prismacolor makes a good blender pencil, and odorless mineral spirits is magical with colored pencils.  I like the Faber Castell Polychromos ( oil base, Prismacolor are wax based) some really good books on the latest color pencil techniques.

COLD.  Or, the weather we're supposed to be having at this time of year. In the 80's last weeks, now 40. NPR just had interesting piece about the potential problems as explained by an arborist near Boston.  Plant life, esp. trees are about a month early - if frost occurs - concern farmers will loose their crops, fruits, etc.

They are threatening us with the possibility of frost tonight.  Will have to go out and cover up whatever we can.  Not going to be good for a lot of people and plants if we end up with a good hard freeze at this point.

I ended up going to Walmart yesterday.  Ack ... not my favorite store but they have ice cream cups and sugar free cookies (DH junk food) that I can't get anywhere else so I bit the bullet and went.  Came home with a headache.  What really got me was this couple in the parking lot.  2 little kids ... mom holding little girl ... little boy (3?4?) running all over the darn parking lot collecting carts and taking them to the cart return.  He was doing a 'good deed' in his mind and was having a really good time.  But mom and dad were paying minimum attention to him and he was darting all over the parking lot without ever looking for cars.  Scared me!  I hate stuff like that ... I never know if I should say something or not.  Luckily they were about done loading their car and collected him and left.

    Good Morning!

It's a beautiful day in SW Virginia!  I bet Athena is loving this weather .. it's a cool 70 degrees and the sun is shining.

Rabbit . we have a frost advisory for tonight too.  I just hope it doesn't affect my dogwoods.  I'm glad I showed some restraint and didn't put in my flower beds.  I was very tempted because the weather was so wonderful, but thought it best to wait until April.

I shop at Walmart and am continually amazed at what I see there.  I had a gal almost run me over .. and then she had the nerve to yell at me and tell me to get my "white ass out of the way."  The people in my Walmart would just as soon run you down with their carts (or buggies as they're known in the south).

Hope everyone has a really nice day,
    Bren

    Happy Monday all,

Mary, so very sorry about your sister in law.

I think I mentioned that DH is fundraising for American Cancer Society by running a half marathon.  Any rate, he had me look at his letter and he had me down as "cured" --  no cure sweetie,  no evidence of disease but not allowed to say cured.  It was so hard for him---the friend with lung cancer is on the last chemo (the kind that they only give you when there is no other choice), my mother goes in for her surgery on Thursday--I guess he'd been happily saying to himself that he didn't have to worry about me.

Mind you I know statistically that my chances of never ever getting another cancer diagnosis --between my original diagnosis and the preemptive strike on the stinking ovaries --are REALLY AWESOME but still, with  my mother's cancer situation, its awfully hard not to feel I'm sitting with the sword of Damocles over my head.  I want us all to be able to say CURED when we finish our treatment.  NED isn't good enough.

    stupid cancer!

It was a lovely day today.  I did have a few bad moments when I got a call from the bank telling me my closing costs were going to be $700.  I flipped out!  I was quoted three days ago the amount of $100.  I was relentless and wouldn't give up.  Finally, the lender jumped in and waived their fee .. bringing the closing amount to $81.  That's much more reasonable.  You have to read the closing statement so carefully to make sure you're not getting charged fees that aren't yours.  It's happened to me before, so I knew to read everything very carefully.

Rosemary .. keeping everything crossed for benign and unremarkable results!

    hugs,

    Bren

My sister-in-law had her biopsy today. They were able to do it earlier than planned because there was a cancellation. She's been told to expect up to a week for results. I remember I got mine in 2 days. I don't think I would have lasted a week! She said this biopsy was easier than the one she had for her DCIS 2 years ago-that one was stereotactic and involved 27 samples. This one took only 4.

Our weather was really nice over the weekend-nice for Seattle that is. It was about 55 degrees and sunny. Now we're back to cloudy and rainy. I was able to get out and plant some primroses in my planters.

    Rosemary-fingers crossed for unremarkable.

All this talk of mammograms and biopsies and such is making me think about my MRI coming up in June. Ack.

    Morning  Everyone!

Going to be a nice day.  The sun is shining and the temps will hit 80 again today.  My dogwoods are blooming and so are the apple trees, and everything is a beautiful shade of lime green.

Mary .. can't believe your sis has to wait a week to get the results.  I had mine the next day.  I know how you feel about your upcoming scans ... the further out I get, the more scared I am.

My 5-year anniversay is on Friday.  The time has just flown by since my lumpectomy on March 30, 2007.

Hope everyone has a really great day,

    Bren

Bren, of all the things I miss about springtime in the South, it would be the blooming of the dogwoods and redbuds in an otherwise stark yard or woods. Truly a beautiful sight. And forsythia, too...

Fire danger is high here in the front range. No moisture in March, our wettest month. Winds have been high. Trees dead from devastating pine bark beetle kill. "Idiots" exercising their god-given right to shoot guns and drop cigarette butts in the woods, kicking up sparks that lead to wildfires. I need to get a to-go fire box ready.

Wow, Bren, five years is one of those MAJOR milestones!! Glad time is flying by and you're healthy and happy!!

After a few cold days here, the thermometer has gotten its act together and is on the upswing!  The sun is shining, I have a lovely bouquet of garden-picked daffodils and hyacinths sitting on the dining room table and yesterday I saw a vibrant pink flowering almond bush -- a most welcome splash of colour in the grassy green landscape in one of our parks.  We have several "Gardens of Hope" filled with thousands of daffodils around town, all planted by local Cdn Cancerr Society volunteers -- just beautiful! Oh yes, the magnolia trees are about to burst into blossom and most of the trees are in bud.  I LOVE spring!

I guess the wait for results depends on the number of radiologists in your area.  Mary, hoping for B9 results for your SIL.

I've been reading about the ACA presentations to the Supreme Court.  Hoping for the best there, too.  So glad to have universal healthcare in my country. I worry about all of those with BC (a definite pre-existing condition) and other chronic, life-threatening diseases if the Court decides to declare the ACA unconstitutional.
