ANother BIG hug ( filled with 80 degrees of sunshine) for MARY.
It is so rotten, to feel rotten, I don't know how anyone gets thru this without medicine...but then, I was dealing with depression for years b4 I started bc. Still, just know how our minds can really "attack" us when we least expect it - or can defend against it.
SO MORE HUGS, and keep writing, DO NOT SIT ON FEELING SAD, or bad, let it OUT - grim weather doesn't help either....
-
susieQ - even worse , some folks in my art class this am were saying Spring starts on 3/20. OH, NO, it's 3/21, but I was outnumbered.
Speaking of being good to ourselves - I was thinking of Mary, and her dreary weather - I bought myself a wonderful present today. Now, I'm VERY VERY VERY late to this "party" cuz I'll bet all of you who get sore feet know about Keen shoes. WOW. This flat footed, one bunion, weak ankled woman bought her first pair today - clompy, deliciously funny looking, ( full warning: I think crocs are still cute) and so, so wonderfully supporting comfortable. Lots of smiles
More hugs to Mary...
-
I'll have to check out the Keen shoes, my dad was making fun of my Rocket Dogs just yesterday. I told him he was out of touch with the "current" styles. LOL
Finally quit snowing, but it looks frigid out there. What a start to spring. -
Love the Keen shoes,if there wasn't white stuff all over out there - I'd go shopping!
-
Sun -- Remember, this is a leap year, hence spring starting today instead of tomorrow! Have never heard of Keen shoes (that I know of) so I'll have to do some googling!
-
Thanks for all the hugs everybody!
Mary
-
More hugs.

- My Keen shoes are a 1/2 size LARGER than my ususal shoe size. Guy at store was very knowledgeable about them, said folks usually wear 1/2 size larger than their "regular" so I am the PROUD owner of a style called Presidio - ( think lace front clod hoppers, with a rubber tipped sole for when I ALWAYS stub my toe on things!) in Madder Brown, which we used to call Oxblood.
I remember wearing brown & white lace up shoes - loved them. Think I was the only one who did. They looked great with my Brownie uniform ;-) Learned from a friend, they wear "sashes" now, not uniforms...remember my little brown dress. Still have the Pin. ;-)))

I have keens--two pairs actually. I have a black pair with a stretchy fastener and a pair of the red sandel style. I confess I love them even if I will win Zero awards for fashion. I bought them when we moved here and I realized I needed really good shoes to deal with walking up the hills and the wet. Thanks to the vibram sole, they give me pretty good traction and they don't seem to wear out. I bought a pair of the sandels for Oldest Monster and when he out grew them, he passed them to Middle Monster.
They definitely run on the SMALL side
Oh one trick--the sandels can be tossed into the washing machine so no funky foot smell.
-
Hugs to Mary and am commiserating w/Athena. I hated the summers in DC. Not enough to move to Seattle, however. Love Keens. I also love Kinos. They are a sandal made in a factory in Key West. They are really cheap, maybe 6-7 dollars and last forever. I buy several pairs when I go there.
Did my first presentation today and it went great! Here' s hoping tomorrow holds! Tonight I am networking. Fingers crossed.
-
I was trying to remember the terms this morning and now have managed - summer and winter solstice and spring and autumn equinox. Your seasons start on those dates whereas ours start on the first day of the month - not that we really have any proper seasons where I live.
Edited to correct atrocious typos

-
HAPPY SPRING.
So happy to know so many are already loving Keens. The "Predidio"lace up ones I have are so clompy, sturdy, I LOVE them. I use to trip very easily in my "running shoes" cuz of those wide soles, and my Arimidex weak legs - these feel SO STABLE. Amazing what a difference comfortable shoes can make.
Looking forward to buying the sandals - and THANK YOU 3M''s - for the tip they can be washed! In the warm weather I have to leave my sandals outside...pheeeew..and my cabin is SO small. even with all the gold bond powder, really whiffy when I take them off. YEAH, KEENS.
BTW: ALSO found a pair of Saucony "hill running" ( yeah right!) shoes for $55. which is cheap for their shoes - with a MUCH narrower sole, LOTS of toe room ( bunions, anyone?) and cushy, black with some turquoise, lots of mesh, light weight...
-
I'm always on the look-out for a comfortable shoe so I had to google Keens. They look comfy. I have yet to find something as comfortable as the Vibram FiveFinger shoes. Anybody tried them? They're fantastic...like wearing nothing at all. Fantastic if you have trouble walking.
-
oh lordy gracie, had no idea you were one of Those Five Finger types!

DH has them and loves them. I think he really hasn't worn anything but them and flipflops since some time in 2010. He also goes barefoot a lot, in otherwords, he is a true disciple. He wears them for every day and also for running.
When he was going back to Europe to help his friend last summer, the friend asked if he was going to bring Real Shoes---the Five Fingers are still quite unusual in europe. We had italian tourists taking photos of his feet at the Eiffel Tower Spring 2011 and French people stopping him to take a photo in the BHV in the fall. Probably made it more startling that he was shaving his head at that time to support his friend.
Its good that I am not a person who is particularly concerned about what others think of me!
-
3MM's - I was intriqued by those shoes - BUT, I'm so flat footed - it's uncomfortable for me to walk barefoot. Wonder if flat footed people wear them???
-
Good Afternoon Friends!
It's sandal wearing weather! I painted my toes a nice bright pink and started wearing sandals yesterday. Yay for springtime!
It's a slow day for me ... no work today, but I did walk the dogs. My best friend's husband killed a copperhead in their front yard today. Freaked me out! I was very careful walking the dogs on my paths keeping an eye out for snakes. I guess with the warm weather they're out earlier than usual.
I have the most comfortable pair of new black sandals .. I'll check and see what kind they are .. they're called Softshoe by Medicus. They look great and stylish and I feel like I'm walking on air.
Hope everyone is enjoying their day,
Bren

We actually had sun today here in Seattle. It was only about 49 degrees out, but the sun made a world of difference to me. I'm coming down with a cold, and I slipped in some spilled milk during my breakfast supervision at school and sprained my foot. Ouch.
My sister-in-law should be getting the results of her MRI tomorrow. I'm not sure why her doctor ordered an MRI but no biopsy at this time. Hopefully, it will make sense tomorrow.

Hi Everyone!
I've had a wonderful day! Met up with my sis in Roanoke and we went to Sam's Club and then to lunch. I love only being an hour away from her. I stopped and bought 3 new t-shirts on the way home. I'm set for summer now. Just need to get a pair of shorts that fit me. I had to wear a belt with my pants today as they were falling off me. yay!
Aside from the pollen count, it was a beautiful day today .. a high of 83 and a light rain shower this afternoon. I love springtime!
Hope everyone is enjoying their day!
Bren
PS .. Mary .. have you heard from your SIL yet about her MRI results?
-
Nope-no results yet, Bren. Thanks for asking, though.

It is not supposed to be this warm yet but I love it even though it has made my asthma and allergies go wild.
-
Help - the Alt forum going ballistic - it is Friday after all.
-
Why is it that the alternative nutters are such bullies - quite beyond belief.
-
I have to stay away from there ... talking people out of treatment in favor of coffee enemas and juicing is dangerous IMO. I probably would never have stayed on this board if I had stumbled into something like that when I first came here. The rest of the board is very helpful though ... so that's what I try to stay focused on.
We've got rain today. My bleeding hearts are already up and blooming and the grass is greening up and growing like crazy! Spring has sprung for sure.
Rosemary ... hope you can get the asthma and allergies under control so you feel better!
Mary ... hoping for good news on your SIL. How is your sprained ankle doing?
We finally finished something yesterday that we should have done years ago ... got Wills, Living Wills, etc. etc. all done. If I had a dime for all the times I've said "We really need to go do that" over the last 10 years or so I would actually have a lot of money to leave to somebody. I was really thinking it would be more complicated than it was.
Todays plan of action is yet to be determined ... may do something constructive ... or may not

Have a good day everybody!
-
I "visited" the other world - and can understand many sides of the "argument." Gets too strident for me, as I am a beneficiary of SUCH GOOD care from my acupuncturist, and also find homeopathic medicine helps me in Allergy season, AND I daily give thanks for being in the hands of the (IMHO) best doctors in the world at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston ( can hear my Sloan Kettering relatives laughing with me! I call them the DF of NY) so - feel badly for the rucus going on.
David Servan Shriber seems to be the best source - COMPLEMENTARY, not a binary choice..
-
My ankle is much better today.
We are supposed to have a sunny day here today, with a possible high of 55. Woo hoo! And it's Friday, to put icing on the cake.
My SIL has not heard anything yet-she was supposed to get a call yesterday, so she says she's going to her cancer center and staging a sit-in until she gets her results. I hope she is successful.
I have a new student in one of my ELL(English Language Learner) groups. She's 12 years old and absolutely does not want to be here in America(she's from Korea). She's miserable and nasty to all the other kids in my group, and to me. The other Korean kids tell me she's been swearing in Korean under her breath when she thinks I can't hear. I usually have the kids help each other in class, but she's burned through all her partners. No one wants to work with her, and I can't blame them. I get it-she's preteen, she's mad she's here, she's hurting but it makes for a very long class period. I hope she warms up soon. I'm usually pretty good with the kids that no one else can get along with, but this one is trying my patience.
ETA-Susie-I looked at the thread that you're talking about, and I have to say that it almost appears as if P.G. is stalking you. Kind of creepy.

Good Morning Friends!
Going to be in the low 80's today .. another gorgeous day. Rain is on the way though and predicted for all weekend. Don't know what I'm going to do today ... desperately need to clean out the flower beds, just haven't been motivated to get it done.
Rabbit .. My bleeding hearts are coming up too. They hostas are starting to come up as well. My dogwoods are budding and should open in the next week or two. Can't wait ... they're white and bright pink.
Mary .. That's a tough situation in your class. I don't envy you .. the young girl sounds very angry at the world right now.
I don't always read the alt forum. Most of the time I don't understand what they're talking about. A lot of those treatments they discuss make no sense to me.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Bren

I tried to make sense over there Susie...
I am not sure if that is possible.
-
Hey girls - my sciatic pain is almost totally gone - yippeeeee. I've been in such a good mood - mainly to do with my new hair but also because I can move around so easily now.
Mary - PG obviously read over here for that comment to come out - creepy is the word allright.
Why anyone would not have surgery is beyond me - scary stuff.
-
Susie .. glad to hear your pain is much improved and you're enjoying your hairdo. I don't get the alt forums at all. I can understand wanting to do whatever you can to be healthy, but not treating cancer is a foolish choice.
It's been a lovely day here ... did a few chores and walked the dogs, with an eye looking out for copperheads. Tank loves to run in the woods and I'm always afraid he's going to upset a snake. I miss our Allison ... she used to tease me all the time about snakes on my paths.
Hope everyone has had a great day,
Bren
-
Thanks Bren - snakes scare me - I want to move to New Zealand - no snakes there.
