I apologize for being so long-winded. I've had the flu all week and there's nobody to talk to except Mr. otter, who's also had the flu. I don't know what that has to do with writing long posts, but it's the only excuse I can come up with. Hugs to all...

No need to apologize, Otter. I, for one, don't see enough of you around here, so whenever I do see a post from you it makes me happy.
And I completely understand about needing some conversation after being housebound with the flu or something else. DH tells me he can always tell when I'm feeling better because I attack him at the door and want to talk until he goes to bed. (That I haven't yet been restless and antsy to go out after my latest surgery tells me I am still recovering.)
So, type away, Otter! You always have interesting things to say!

Hi Friends,
I just got off the phone with Blue. She sends her love to everyone! She's having some side effects from the Parkinson's medication, but doing better overall. She said she'll be back soon.
She also wanted to thank Mary for the card.
Blue said Virgil is on steroids for his honking. And it's apparently helping him. Do you guys remember how he honked at Niagara Falls? He was so funny. And he's two pounds overweight, so he is very unhappily on a diet now.
Otter .. I love reading your posts!
Hope everyone is having a good day,
Bren
PS .. Otter .. my dogwoods are barely budding. They won't be in their full glory until next month.

WR, I remember the flip phone gadgets from Star Trek. And the hand held "reader", can you say Kindle?
-
I miss my old flip phone. Talking through the flat smartphone feels uncomfortable.
If they could have:
Flip smartphones with normal keyboards and technology with the ability to distinguish between one's finger and one's ear, purse or any other body part it would be an improvement.
But mostly, I miss Users Manuals - where did those go? Since when is having a full set of instructions obsolete?? Has any of you noticed how hard it is to get hold of User's Manuals for digital technology? You have to search for them through the web and they usually come in complicated Adobe forms. I miss paging through instructions books. I have many questions about my Android phone - including why privacy settings are so rudimentary.
The smartphone is a convenience - and great if you are like the otter family - travelling on the road a lot. But given the choice I prefer a good old desktop and landline phone any time of the day.
Off to read my paper book, which I can bend and hold as I please. :-)

My DH will not give up his rotary dial phones for the house! He'd have a rotary cell phone if they made them. (don't even get me started on the 1962 black and white stereo television that is sitting in my living room!). Or the skeleton keys we have for the door locks.
-
There is an app for that! A friend of mine who hates cell phones and still has a rotary dial phone said he wanted rotary dial on a cell phone. So I searched the apps and found one. You really can dial it on the screen just like a rotary dial phone. My friend still won't have a cell phone.
-
I love the old-style ringtones! That's my favorite part about the retired cell phone Mr. otter gave to me when he got his 4s: I can change ringtones. I got really tired of the Peer Gynt Suite.
But, to have an app that generates a rotary dial you could actually use? Fantastic!!! Who says technology can't be fun?
otter
-
Oh golly, I may just have to download that!
-
I love the one rotary dial phone that we have in the basement.
The kids hate it. They say it "takes too long."
-
That's too cool about a rotary app!

Where is everyone today!?!
I've been busy working, so I'm a happy camper. Just got back from walking the dogs and it's a beautiful day out!
Hope everyone is enjoying their day,
Bren

Hi all, stopping by to say hi and to let everyone know I am feeling somewhat better and am at my conference now. That lifted my spirits becasue now I can network and hopefully, find another job So glad Blue is fgeeling better. Bren I am so jealous! I LOVE 2 Cellos.

Hi, all - I've been clearing out weeds in the garden - 72 and SUNNY. totally strange, buds on trees, very, VERY pregnant robins hopping about - wearing a t shirt - in mid march? Put the screens up on windows ( we take them down in winter so snow won't get stuck & freeze next to windows) don't usally do that chore until mid April. So many things sprouting, at least 3 weeks early.
Hope no one has trips to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC in April - their usually flowering date - cuz they're almost gone - so say all my Bethesda MD friends...
-
VERY pregnant robins hopping about - wearing a t shirt - in mid march!
(Sunflowers -- I just couldn't resist; the vision was too hilariously graphic!)
-
I am dreading six months of feeling ill with hot weather, so I am no happy camper. Just dreading it. My kingdom for snow!
Bren, it feels as though DC has missed spring. This is plain scary.
Glad to hear from you, Barbara. And from (about) Blue. We all need a break sometimes.
I am worried about global warming too. I know this could be part of a normal pattern, but it seems as though the summers just get longer and hotter.
-
Rain, hail, snow in so.arizona. Sunflowers, you may have to put those screens back on.
-
I don't think it should be called "global warming", but should be called "climate change". Otherwise, when you have a really cold, wet winter, such as we are having here in Seattle, the naysayers insist it isn't happening.
I don't think we got above 40 today. At least it was dry. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy and windy. Yuck.
I like the image of pregnant robins in t-shirts as well.

Let's trade weather, Mary.
I am reading a book about zero and infinity. I am at the part where Newtonian physics is being discussed and my microscopic brain is having difficulty following...
-
Athena-I think you would eventually tire of grey gloom, day, after day, after day...........it may sound appealing(not to me) but it's not. It's depressing.
Mary

Good Morning Friends!
It's the first day of spring ... I'm so happy! I've finished my work for the day and may spend some time getting the flower beds ready.
Sunflowers .. my birds are coming back too, and nesting in the same places. It's so much fun to watch them get ready for their babies.
I hope everyone enjoys the day .. and Mary that the sun comes out for you.
hugs,
Bren
-
Snow? Again? Come on SPRING!
-
sorry Athena but Mary does not have the authority to change weather with you.
After growing up in that wretched swamp, I left DC for a reason and have no intention of returning to that miserable excuse for a climate. You will simply have to move here. Right now its sunny and windy with lots of electric green popping out and lots of plum blossums--perfectly lovely in my humble opinion.
-
I just want a little bit of warmth-is that too much to ask????
Mary
-
Hey Mary I can give you a warm virtual hug, will that help?
-
Linda - tee, hee... "East, Shoots and Leaves"
well, they are VERY pregnant robins, but my t shirts wouldn't fit them....so amazing how MANY robins there are hopping about - they get very "solitary" after they've had their babies....
It's supposed to hit 80 today....AND, the bluebirds are back - they are so, so gorgeous....
-
Thanks 3monstmama-that helps a lot! I'm serious-it helps more than you know.

Mary
-
))) Mary ((( that's a big squishy hug!
I wish I could send you some of the warmth we're having ... 80 degrees today.
Hope everyone is having a good day,
Bren

Mary no problem. My DH is getting dragged down by the endless weather too. That kind of worries me because I love Seattle and really don't want to have to move (well unless we win the lottery and can more to Paris!). I think a lot of his problem is the completely thankless dealing with my mother which is now piling on top of the weather. And his friend that he helped through chemo the last two summers is no longer in remission (stupid cancer adjusted to the chemo) so is facing more chemo. DH says dealing my crazy mother is okay and that he doesn't mind but after nearly 12 years of marriage, I know that if he has to spend too much time with people (and being talked "at") he burns out and gets grumpy. End result: he is "dealing" with her but not dealing with us so well.
Passing you a piece of my Seattle Chocolate "Orange Appeal" bar--dark chocolate and bits of orange peel---remember! Anti-oxidents are our friends!
-
Morning girls - it's weird that you start the season now (the 21st) when we start it at the beginning of the month.
My back seems to be finally getting better - still some pain at the top of the leg but much much better.
