What is up with the Her+ thread?

You know, right when I get to reading a thread people start to get nasty.

    I don't get it.

    That is so cute.

That thread is ridiculous. I ventured in but then it veered off into really strange territory. Facts is facts

Thanks for the laugh Linda! I especially like the IPhone one. Sometimes a person needs those words. It drives me nuts when the phone chooses "nice" language for me. %&#@ IPhone!

    Morning Friends!

Going to be another beautiful day here.  Temps in the low 80's!  Tonight is the Elton John concert in Roanoke.  My sis bought us tickets last month.  I can't remember the last time I went to a concert.  Should be lots of fun.

Linda .. Thanks for sharing .. too funny.

Mary .. Keeping your sister in my thoughts.  Hoping for benign scar tissue.  I know she must be really scared.

Gracie .. I posted on a website where I absolutely needed curse words, and the stupid site kept changing them.  It was so frustrating.

Ang ... I read a little of the HR2 thread, but since I was borderline for HR2, I just try to stay out of that mess.  I don't understand why people won't take Herceptin if they are HR2 positive.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Bren -- Have a wonderful time at the Elton John concert -- wish I could be there with you!

It's cloudy and a bit rainy here this morning, but still spring-like with temps in the high 60's.  Most unusual winter (winter??) I've ever experienced.  My spring flowers are starting to bloom!

I took a chance and replaced the winter tires with the summer tires on my car yesterday. If the usual late March snow storm comes, I will stay home that day. Meanwhile, there are clothes on the line outside and I will go in shirt sleeves to the grocery store. Enjoying this strange weather! This afternoon both grandchildren are coming for an overnight. Morning will be much earlier than my usual and that's a small price to pay.

lindasa, thanks so much for the funny post--it made me laugh when i read it yesterday and well, to be honest, I needed a good laugh yesterday.  DH also enjoyed it especially the Mayans and the iphone.

Mary, holding my thumbs (swedish thing) and thinking "scar tissue, scar tissue, scar tissue."

very very windy downtown today and cold and rainy again.  Poor Little Monster!  This is his first year of baseball, he is assigned to a team, they had one practice on Saturday but the next two practices were cancelled because of the weather!  Truly not the greatest weather but then again all the blossoms haven't blown off the trees yet, the blueberry bushes are budding and my rhubarb is coming up so there's some good on the way.

yesterday was rough.  first DH's best friend in Europe posted that his stupidfuckinglungcancer is back with a vengence.  He was on maintainence chemo and they thought it was working well.  The only problem was that it was doing a job on his liver.  I guess they decided to stop it maybe to give the liver a break? Don't know.  His Dec scan was clean and we all cheered.  But last week's scan was bad and its back on chemo next week for him.  The last two big rounds of chemo, DH flew to europe to help out but this time, its just not possible.  We lack the money and we both lack the energy it would require.  And then there is the cancer patient we are already dealing with at home, my mother.

who is greatly depressed (despite antidepressants) even though the news from her oncologist is very good.  He tells her that he thinks that if she has surgery and then 3 more rounds of chemo she will have at least a good year to 18 months and likely die of heart failure before the cancer returns.  The alternatives --per the oncologist--are basically just doing chemo until it stops working and then die of cancer or stop doing anything and die of cancer.  I tried to get her to see a therapist specializing in oncology--she says she has nothing to talk about and no thoughts about having cancer (if she really has no thoughts then I think she is first person in history) so nothing to talk about.  Surgery is set for March 29 but she is still waffling.  She says lots of things to the family about her thoughts on life, living and treatment but then take opposite actions.  What she really wants is not to have cancer (join the club!) which isn't going to happen.

I recognize that she is going through an awful lot --pulled out of house, pulled out of her hoard and stupidcancer--- but at the same time, it is so frustrating.  We tried for years to get her to move because we worried that some major health disaster would happen and she would have to be yanked out of her house.  No luck.. And now here we are in the worst case scenario.

    sigh.

Monstmomma, Speaking as a daughter of a hoarder, getting rational, logical decisions out your mother has probably always been difficult. Sadly it will not change. The serenity prayer works here. I'm so sorry you must deal with this stressful situation.

(((((3monst))))) Stoicism may be your mother's best aid....I don't know. And Mary....

    Lindasa...lol!

Off to find out what the issue on the HER2 thread is....I see now. I don't like such arrogance in the face of such uncertainty about this disease. I don't understand it. It bewilders me. One reason why, being an atheist, I resent the Spanish Inquisition. Mouth shut.

Calling BARBARA - we have Dewards you know.

I think the reason why our thread is so wonderful is the people....the bar is just an outgrowth of that. We are all resilient because so many of us have been "deleted" for one!

I LOVE bigmouths....as all of us here are.

--Athena, the bigmouth (who self-censures on occasion)

ETA to shut mouth a bit more.

Thanks everybody for the well wishes for my sister-in-law. She's trying to stay calm. We all know that 80% of all lumps are benign(or something like that) but it's hard to remember that when one has had cancer already. She's also got some other issues going on-perhaps lupus, perhaps fibromyalgia-so she's having a rough time.

((((3montstmama)))) Mothers can be so frustrating sometimes. I'm sorry you're going through exactly what you feared you would go through with yours.

I am so envious of everyone else's weather here. Like 3monstmama said, we are having rain, rain, rain, and more rain here in Seattle, with a little wind and snow flurries thrown in for good measure.

Today it has rained cats & dogs, cleared up, rained more housepets and now there is blue sky to the west.  I walked across the lawn tonight and it squished like a sponge!  I am thinking this does not bode well for my garlic.

Thanks everyone for all the hugs.  HTG what the heck is it with all the cancer?  Is it my age?  In the last 3 years, I had cancer, my boss had cancer, our friend has cancer, my coworker's sister has cancer and of course my mother.  Enough already!

chickadee, shall we swap CrazyHoarderLady stories? oh never mind, it only likely make us drink to excess....thanks for the reminder of the serenity prayer.  I can recite it while I knit knit knit.

did I mention I have my monsters each cooking 1 meal a week?  While cooking is one of my big stress relievers, it really was time for them to start learning some skills.  I still get two nights a week and one is our big sunday dinner.  Anyrate, they are REALLY good at this!  I am so impressed.

Ah, 3M, I was thinking about your mom the other day... I wish I had pithy words of wisdom to offer to make it better. You sound like you have it under as much control as possible. I am so sorry to near that your DH's best friend's cancer is newly resurgent. I hate hate hate hate this effing disease. I am so sick of losing all the loving hearts who have to leave us. Hugs to you and your DH ... And to your culinarily-inclined monsters.

Ouch - just took a brief look at "that thread" - ouch, just ouch!  I'm sure my use of the ever popular Ignore Funciton makes it a wee bit less "interesting" - but even then, it's just frightful.  I shuddered at the post of someone saying some huge percentage of node negative women going on to further stages...where do these "numbers" come from?

Monsta, I have vowed that I have cleaned my last hoarder home. (4 of them). She is now in assisted living and madder than a hornet that she couldn't bring her stuff with her. When I was diagnosed I coerced her to move back near my brother and sister as I knew I couldn't deal with her nastiness anymore.

My mother-in-law is also a hoarder. We(her kids) have moved her from a house, to several apartments, each one smaller than the previous one. She now has early dementia and is in assisted living. Each move has been just like an episode of "Hoarders". She has to go through each and every item in each and every box, until we run out of time and things just get shoved in boxes for the next time. Now that she is in assisted living, her "stuff" is in a storage unit. Her stuff is just crap. I don't think there is anything of value in that storage unit. She has a tiny little room now, and it is packed to the brim. She's been in the hospital several times this past year, and each time, we go in and throw stuff out. It just keeps accumulating!

We are so thankful that she no longer lives in a house.

    Good Morning Friends!

The Elton John concert was AMAZING!  He played for three straight hours without taking a break.  His opening act was called 2cellos.  These two classically trained cello players from Croatia played Michael Jackson and also Nirvana's Teen Spirit.  I've never heard anything like it.  They were awesome.  They also played with Elton's band.  It was such a treat for me to be able to go.  I didn't get home until 1 a.m., that's late for me!

Next up is Floyd Fest with Jackson Browne and Allison Krause.  Sure hope I can make it.

I'm moving very slowly this morning ... need more coffee.

Hope everyone has a great day,

    Bren
