Naan - Great news!
Sunrise - I'm sorry you have to leave your kids for a while, but I hope the 'vacation' helps you regain your strength so you can get back on track. I can't imagine going through this with kids - I've done about-faces whenever I've been near kids the past few months, and haven't seen my nephew since November because he's been sick almost constantly. Hang in there, and sending you lots of hugs.
mardibra, kelly and markat - I hope you're all feeling a little better.
Laura - I'd love to have spring, but I sort of wish we had at least one other real snow day. I've missed them. But 60 degrees sounds good to me.
I'm stressing trying to get ready for work tomorrow and pack for my tx #5 on Thursday. I'll be staying in Philly overnight so I need to have things ready for the morning. I've got the decadron on the ready...
-
Rachelvk, thanks and good luck with tx #5, will be thinking of u
-
Naan that is great news. Happy for you.
Rachel will be thinking of you on Thursday as you go for # 5.
So many of you so close to your last tx, wonderful to see.
Just thinking of all who began in December, and how far everyone has come.
I think you are all amazing and thank you for all you've shared. When feeling alone in this, it has helped more than I can say.
Thank you ladies! -
Good morning ladies! I am feeling better today finally. My DH and I went out for dinner last night and it was great just to get out of the house. Of course I was really tired and achey by the time we got home. I hope to get outside this evening as it's supposed to be 64 here in Ohio today!
Rachel - good luck on #5 this week.....getting close.
I can't keep track of all the posts to respond individually, my brain just doesn't work that way these days....so I hope everyone has a wonderful SE free day! Love to you all!
-
Hi ladies got my liver test results back and all my levels are back down to normal! They aren't sure what happened. Could have been the antibiotics or just a fluke. I'm sure they all think I drank on my vacation
guess I should have.
-
Kelloggs, good to hear you're feeling better.
Market, great news, congrats.
Seacret, it has been a long journey for all of us, but as u said without the support of the ladies here, don't think anyone could've made it this far. It's so important to have someone out there who feels my pain and understands what I'm going through, cause if u haven't been there, done that then u really don't know! -
Naan great news about the chemo!
Rachel good luck today! Hope everything goes smoothly.
Hope everyone else is feeling good! -
Thanks everyone. I'm getting ready to head off shortly.
-
Good luck with #5 today Rachel....I'll be sending good vibes your way!
-
Markat-great news about the liver enzymes, what a relief!
Rachel- good luck today, hope your day is uneventful and that you get some great sleep tonight!
Thinking about everyone! We've come a long way! -
Good luck, Rachel with #5 today. I had#5 yesterday.
I have gotten the warm fuzzies from my MO the last 2 times I have seen him. He actually took the time to write the research nurse a note to tell her that I was doing great! He then went on to tell me to call him on Sunday and let him know how I was doing and if I wasn't doing well, he would call and have orders for me to come in for fluids on Monday. He also has me taking just one steroid pill through the weekend to hopefully help with SE's.
The nurse explained why chemo causes nausea and other GI issues. Apparently, you whole GI tract is filled with rapidly dividing cells. Chemo kills all rapidly dividing cells, hence, the GI troubles. Knowledge is power ladies! The more I can educate myself with knowledge, the more in control I feel in this very out of control situation.
We are almost there! Hope everyone has a great weekend with minimal SE's! -
Lori - Glad you have such a great MO. Mine was really good this morning, listening to and answering my questions without rushing or blowing me off. Many of you may be taking some probiotics for the GI issues. You might also consider Acidopholus, which also helps restore the good bacteria in your system. I took it after surgery, but only recently have started taking it again. Hopefully it will help.
It's going to be a long day. 9 am labs, 10 am with the MO.... then getting into the infusion room after 1 pm, and they haven't started the actual chemo yet. My benadry stopped 10 or 15 minutes ago and the meds are ready, but I haven't gotten decadron yet. Not good. I'll be lucky to be out of here by 6.
-
Rachel, wow what a long day. Hoping you are home and resting. My onc was not encouraging me to take probiotics, which I always have so I've stopped for a bit. Yours was ok about?
Lori I hope #5 is kind to you.
Markat that's great news about your enzymes. Always great to have good news.
Kelly glad you felt well enough to enjoy dinner out with your husband. Weather has been great here in NJ too. So happy for spring so close.
Went for taxol 5 today. Slow and steadily getting closer.
Goodnight and mild SEs to all.
Laura -
Rachel - hope #5 went well for you although it is definitely a long day! Hoping the same for you too Lori.
Markat - great news! Hang in there!
Thanks Laura - I am on day 8 now and planning a small trip to Cleveland (about an hour away) to pick up my youngest DD from college for spring break. My oldest DD is going with me and we are going to make a night of it...just me and my girls!
I hope everyone has a wonderful, SE-free weekend! Much love!
-
#5-1, Lori -0. Holy cow...heartburn, nausea (even with the patch, ativan, and compazine), exhaustion like none other. Taking zantac 150 2x's a day and drinking milk. Just getting to the point where everything hurts going down which will then lead to dehydration. Can I just spend the weekend in the hospital? I hate trying to think of things that will make me feel better. Okay, rant over.
I certainly do hope no one else is feeling this bad. -
Rant away Lori...we have all been there and know how hard it is. Thinking of you and the other gals who sat in the chair this week.
-
Naan - - in this case less IS better! Good news.
Market - - good news for you, too!
Kelly - - have fun on your little trek to Cleveland.
Lori - - sending healing thoughts your direction. It's okay to give #5 this point, but I hope you get the point next time. Take it easy and be kind to yourself.
-
Okay, as bad as the morning was, things have been turning around. Dr had me take extra doses, just 1 pill, of the decadron to keep me awake and appetite up. I think it is making a huge difference! He called it fairy dust, lol. Or maybe it is my sweet little boy with that little boy smell snuggled in my bed?
Actually, in all seriousness, I am surprised at how much better I am feeling just from actually eating.
Hopefully everyone else is starting to feel better!!!! -
Hi all---
Is it too late to join this group? I feel funny jumping in at this point...like I'm intruding or something.
Anyway, I started chemo in December, then had time off for good behavior. In this case, good behavior = two weeks, then bmx on February 8th. I start the fun again on Friday ( dd taxol x 4). AC kicked my butt down the block and back again... But at least I knew where we stood. Starting with the new drug is giving me the willies big time. I' ve got the usual supplements lined up on the counter, but can't make myself start taking them. I don't want to go back to that chair, you know???
Any in this group taxol experts? Tell me good news...or if you can't, tell the bad stuff with humor.
Thanks again
S -
Hi WrongChick, I'm in this group -- ddAC in Dec and Jan, and now 6/12 Taxol behind me. I agree that it's so much better once you know how you'll react, and get a sense of good days/bad days.
Personally, I have found Taxol much easier to tolerate than AC. I don't have nausea, though I have aches and pains. Those are manageable with tylenol (or stronger, if you need) and hot showers, etc. My hair is also returning, which makes me feel much better -- even tho the eyelashes are going.
Is DD Taxol every other week or every 3? I can't remember why I have it weekly -- did I choose it? My dr? It's kind of chemo brain fog at this point. I know, though, that I live close enough to my hospital that it's not hardship to go each week -- just getting pretty tired of it, of course.
My goal is to stay on track with Taxol to finish as planned, no missing weeks, if possible, to get it done. For what it's worth, I will have 6 weeks off before radiation and I'm filling those weekends already!
-
Lori so glad to hear you are feeling better. Sweet about your little boy.
Kelly your trip with your daughters sounds wonderful. I have two daughters but they have such differences right now that I spend separate time with each. Makes me so sad that they are not a suuport system for one another, especially now. I never had a sister, and I guess thought they would always be close.
WrongChick, welcome and sorry you have to continue treatment. There are a few ladies on this thread getting DD taxol, I am weekly after a rough ride on AC. There is also a taxol thread.
Peacock have you had to get any neupogen shots so far? Hope you are feeling well.
Good Sunday to all, Laura -
Lori - so glad you are feeling better!
Laura - My daughters are 5 1/2 years apart. It wasn't until the last few years that they got close. They are total opposites but get along great now that they are both adults. We had a wonderful time on our little trip. We went to dinner and did some shopping. Youngest is home for the week.
Enjoyed "porch coffee" with my DH this morning...listening to the birds and watching the squirrels and chipmunks! I love spring! I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
-
Wrong - I had 4 DD AC and am now getting ready for my fourth and final DD Taxol. Totally different reactions for me. No nausea on taxol at all but instead, pain and nueropathy. Seems like some get it and some don't. Hoping you don't!
Lori - so good to hear your doing better. One step closer to being done.
Spring! It's coming and I couldn't be happier! Hoping my hair blooms too. -
Wrong
This group is wonderful we have this one and another that focuses on taxol check it out
Taxol chemotherapy is title -
Hi everybody
Yes spring has taken a new meaning this year, seeing the blooms is so great and all the new growth in the yard. I'm having a hard time since I took the last chemo, at least when I was on tx I was focused, sick maybe, but had a goal just getting through. Now I'm through and I don't have the great feeling I was expecting. Into the unknown, hoping it worked. Surgery maybe will give a little more closure, I did chemo b4 surgery. So the first week of April I will move into surgery land and hope for the best. Hope everybody had a great weekend and enjoy some springtime. Maybe I'll go get a few plants for the porch. Thank you to the dec. Forum for pulling me through everyday the past 4 months, hard to believe 16 weeks. Thanks to everybody, what a great group we have, couldn't have done it without you guys! -
FLIslander...I would do the surgery 10 times over compared to chemo. After everything we have been through, I hope everyone agrees that the surgery was definitely easier. None of it is easy, but you are so close to being finished.
I ended up in the ER last night. I was fine and then all of a sudden nausea, vomitting, diarrehea all started. Thought I was going to pass out a few times. There is no reason for me to have felt that bad with all of the meds I am on to prevent that. My legs are so weak. It is so beautiful out that it breaks my heart that I can't be outside with my little boy after school. I just want to scream how much this sucks!!! I hate that I can't even take care of myself let alone a 6 year old. It's just not fair. My husband helps, but sometimes when he says let me ask so and so to get Jake, its just that much harder. I shouldn't have to ask for help, I should just be able to take care of it. Sorry...I know I am coming to the end of treatments and I just want this over with. Thanks for letting me vent twice in one week, lol! -
Dougies
I'm sorry shouldn't complain, it's just I'm in limbo I should just believe the chemo worked and forget about it, but it's hard to forget, like someone else said I need to say I HAD cancer but it doesn't feel that way yet.
Hope you are hydrated and feeling better, I'm still not over all the SE from last taxol. -
You are right! We are in limbo! I can't wait for the day that it "feels OK" to say I "had" cancer. I hope that makes sense. My friend put in in perspective a bit for me today. Think of everything we have been through in just a short amount of time. From dx, to surgeries, tests, chemo...we have been through so much and we are allowed down days. (Can you tell I don't let that happen?).
I have always been a perfectionist so when your dad calls and says you need to drink water and not gatorade, it makes me feel like I can't even do chemo right. How ridiculous is that? I know in my head that's not what he means, but I feel like I should be tough and not get sick from the chemo. I can't freaking help it.
Anyway, I have also found that the Monday after chemo is my most emotionally down day, so,next time, for #6, my hubby is going to stay home with me! Too bad it took me this long to figure it out. Oh well. Spring is right around the corner....hopefully we all can get a little fresh air this week! -
Lori - I hope you feel better. Was your trip to ER from chemo, or did you have a tummy bug? There is certainly a lot of 'stuff" going around.
Kelly - porch coffee sounds fantastic. I love Spring, too.
We are experiencing warm weather in Central PA. Perfection!
-
dougieswife - I hope you are feeling better and that today is a good day for you. I'd say you deserve one after all you've been through!
