And I still don't like brussels sprouts, although I had some very nice cinnamon roll bread toast from Trader Joe's this evening, along with a glass of bottled Bellini from TJ's as well.
-
So glad you are doing well, ((((HL))))
I also dined on Trader Joe's.

Happy Libby-I hear you on the control freak thing. I cannot stand using painkillers. They don't make me sick to my stomach, they just make me feel not like "me". I stopped using them the day after my lumpectomy-not a BMX and DIEP to be sure-but I just hated that otherworldly feeling they gave me.
Now, talk to me again if I ever have to have major surgery and I may be telling you a different story.

I don't know how this site works. I started on the last page and from there went back a couple of pages to read the comments. I noticed comments about Santorum, Romney, and Palin. Since this is a breast cancer site and I would think visited mostly by women, I was surprise to see another woman being bashed.
-
Libby
I am glad your recovery is going so well.
-
Mary, I think it is a central nervous system thing. Narcotics work on your central nervous system and, according to the pain management guy in the hospital, tylenol takes a different pathway. I drink very rarely (not thrilled with THAT feeling either!) so I think my central nervous system is not happy with interference. Guess it was never in the cards for me to become a stoner (tee hee!).
-
Well, I don't know why that posted twice but I deleted it.
-
Libby ... so are you now at the point you can say it was all worth it? Hope so! I never understood how anybody could abuse those darn pain drugs for fun either. I didn't get to have hallucinations or cause earthquakes or anything but they gave me awful stomach aches. Not my idea of a good time.
The brussel sprouts look good - haven't had any for awhile.
I made mashed potatoes tonight. Finally decided I wanted a Kitchenaid mixer and got one so I had to find something to mix in it. Hubby is hoping this means more cookies
Rosemary ... didn't realize you were getting snow. We just had a few little ice pellet thingies and some flurries yesterday. My sympathies ... hope it melts fast.
Waving 'hello' to everybody!
-
I remember feeling like the words that were coming out of my mouth were also echoing in my head. Not a fun feeling.
I'm not adverse to a cocktail, or too, though.
Mary
Edited to add-Anyone hear from Blue lately???
-
Hi WR
I just keep muttering."Snow melts but I don't."
I am missing Blue too. I hope she's okay.
-
WR, I DESPERATELY want a Kitchen-Aid mixer! I just don't have the counter space for it right now (my Cuisinart has to live under the counter in the cupboard). I have promised myself a Kitchen-Aid when we retire and move to wherever we are going to move. I am hoping it will mean more cookies and more bread, but I may regret hoping that!
Still pondering the "was it worth it" question. I think that the experience was highly useful in learning about my complete inability to tolerate heavy-duty narcotics. And the noobs are really quite fetching. The flat tummy is ... Odd, and my inner Puritan keeps muttering darkly about vanity and too lazy to exercise, although the flat tummy is nice to look at. My pants keep falling down but I don't want to buy new ones yet ... And I find it quite charming that my pants DO fall down, so I guess I am not over the novelty yet. Not sure I will ever get to the statement, "It was totally worth it!" but am probably arriving at the, "I'm not sorry I did it" stage. Of course I have to torture it all!
And I also DO.NOT understand why people would have tummy tucks for fun. That completely defeats me!

Wow,TheTruth, that's pretty sexist. So all we are is women, and all other politicians are is women or men, and somehow BC is a feminist cause and if you have BC you shouldn't say anything about women? I just see BC as a horrible medical illness, and not one curtailing anyone's freedom to "bash" man, woman or beast. Men get BC too, and when they don't they suffer seeing women they care about suffer. There are many men who shed tears over us and they deserve respect.
This isn't some girlie sister suffragette club. Just a reunion of wonderful -if medically unlucky-- people. Those tired old ideologies whereby women must show solidarity for all women because they are women are stereotyping, offensive and sexist. I like to think of myself as human first, and I like to give men the same respect I demand of them.
I stil like Brussels sprouts. :-) Talk me down, as Rachel Maddow says.

Libby
When you feel up to it we want to see the new you.Pictures please,
I keep thinking,"We can rebuild her,we have the technology."
-
Send your inner Puritan to the corner and enjoy! You suffered for it ... that should count for something. And go buy some new pants before you get arrested

I've been saying I didn't need or want one of those mixers for years. Then ... since my daughter likes to cook fancy stuff ... I got her one for Christmas. And she kept raving about how awesome it was and made me jealous. So I had to get me one too. It's her fault! I did use it to make chocolate chip cookies and it was soooo much easier than doing all that mixing by hand. They definitely have to stay on the counter though. Much too heavy to be lugged around much.
Been worrying about blue too. Want to send her a card but have a silly question ... will 2 stamps get a card to Canada? or am I going to need to go to the Post Office and find out for sure?
-
I got a KitchenAid stand mixer about 10 years ago, then I used air miles to get a KA hand mixer -- super products, and well worth the extra bucks!
I too hate taking strong painkillers, but mostly because of the constipation factor! Strangely enough, I didn't need any at all after my MX, but that was minor surgery compared to a DIEP (except for the obvious....missing part).
HL -- temporary suspenders, maybe?
-
I sent Blue a card and it was 85 cents but they weighed it and everything I have sent to Canada has been weighed, even when t was under an ounce, so I always take it to the Post Office or a store with a postal substation. You don't have to go to the Post Office, just a store with a substation.
-
HL, I bet you got amazing results.
Waving at Blue too.
-
I would love to send Blue a card, if anyone trusts me enough to PM me her address. Or maybe I could send it to one of you, and you could pass it along.

I just like stopping and "hitchin' up my britches" occasionally. Gives me such a charge to feel so skinny! Funnily enough, I used to be so skinny that doctors would give me the anorexia lecture frequently. I had to have suspenders as a toddler because they couldn't buy pants small enough around, and when I was in school, I had to have elastic waist skirts because they didn't make them small enough to button and stay up.
lindasa, I think I may not have needed painkillers at all if I had had just a bmx with no recon. All the nerves there were severed, so everything is completely numb. Even with the revisions this time, which were fairly extensive, they don't hurt. I have about 6" of stitches on the left one and 12" under my arm along my side on the right one. My "bullet" holes from fat grafting in my upper noob/chest area did hurt, as well as the lipo sites on my hips that I called my "drain plugs."
Right now I am just wearing stretch pants, though. I have to wear compression (Spanx) for 6 weeks, so I'm taking advantage of the extra "smoothing"... -
I know those noobs will be perky and beautiful.
Three grands were over today while their parents went to a movie. They never go anywhere without the kids.It was fun for everyone.
ETA: Oh shoot, almost got myself in trouble. I love to edit and ignore.
-
Here kitty, kitty ... come on down.

-
Happy ... I've got a Kitchenaid you can have. I think it used it three times. I've got all the bells and whistles that go with it too, including a pasta maker, etc. I'm so allergic to cooking these days, the next time we get together, I'll give it to you.
Glad to hear you're doing so well.
love ya,
Bren
PS .. Mary .. remind me in the morning, and I'll PM you Blue's address.
-
Thanks for the chuckles, gang.

Off to bed now. It was a bright but cold day today, and the fire in the fireplace is almost out.
otter
ETA: Upon re-reading, that last sentence sounds like it's in code. I must have been watching too many spy movies.
-
That wabbit looks sweet. Climbing down to join her. I got caught up looking over the horizon at the otter.
-
I won't be posting much until Mar 1st - the ratbag has used up all of our download allowance and we've been slowed down - I've been playing Solitaire to pass the time while a page loads - sigh. I will keep an eye on things from work, but seeing I actually have lots of work to do I might be too busy.
(((((((((Blue)))))))) - hope you are OK.
Looking forward to tomorrow when they have the leadership ballot - neither is any good but watching the mud slinging has been very interesting.
-
susie ... bummer ... glad February is a short month!
Good morning all ... I'm just on my second cup of coffee here. Was up too late last night trying to break otter's code.
-
ha, ha - Just having my first cup myself, WR.
(((Susie))) By ratbag what do you mean (apologies for cluelesness)
-
Morning Friends!
Athena .. I think in this case, 'ratbag' would be her DH.
Susie .. Like Rabbit said, it's a good thing February is a short month. I hope you can get back here before March!
Rabbit .. I'm about to have cup number three. I was up late last night too watching 'Heat' on TV. I haven't even attempted Otter's code yet.
Mary .. I reminded myself this a.m. about Blue's address.
The sun is shining and the wind has died down. It's not warm out, but it so much nicer than when the wind was howling.
Hope everyone has a great day,
hugs,
Bren

A man who loves me is doing the Avon walk on my behalf and on that of his mother. Just got a text message to that effect. I am no pink person, but it touched me, especially in reference to my previous "talk me down" post. A lot of men's lives are deeply affected by breast cancer. We should not forget that, and we should pay homage to their suffering. This is a malady with many tentacles. Sometimes it's harder for the people around us because they don't have a way of knowing how we will cope. They may feel even more powerless than we do. This urge to raise awareness is his and his only. He can't take the treatment, makie the lifestyle changes, etc....If we feel hopeless, our loved ones feel it times ten.
-
Good morning, from a finally cold western MA.
Lovely to hear from HL doing so well. Only Tylenol, now THAT is stubborn. So glad you're over the worst, and tell the Puritan eat some delicious chocolate chip cookies and enjoy herself.
Not even curious how some "new" poster could find this thread, and of all places, post here for her first post. Too funny...some people really never give up trying to cause trouble. If any lurkers wanna CHEER for a women in political life, I'd be happy to lead a CHORUS for the Secretary of State. Or the First Lady, who inspires children to be active and eat good healthy food and thanks to inspiration from wonderful women ( human beings) like Alice Waters, has an organic veggie garden at the White House. Gabby Gifford, lots of great women leaders we are blessed to have in public service.
I was thinking of buying a KitchenAid - convinced myself I'd cook all sorts of things, luckily changed my mind, and still use an ole hand mixer from about 30 years ago. Reviews of some of the mixers online were horrendous.
Almost tempted to have brussel sprouts, but for breakfast???
