I'll post you some leftovers
One of my favourite things is a sandwich made with left over lamb and tomato sauce (ketchup) - I'll be having one for lunch tomorrow. We've been up watching the tennis final - both Nadal and Djokovic annoy me - why won't they make rules about grunting when they play - too annoying. Can't be bothered watching the rest - time for bed.
-
The leg of lamb made my mouth water. My step daughter is visiting and it is as though 8 years was yesterday. We are so comfortable together. We went to the open air market and had buckwheat crepes with carlemized onion, brie, mushrooms and peppers in roasted red pepper sauce. OMG. Today we are meeting my step mother for brunch at my favorite bistro. All I do is eat. Must lose five pounds...soon.
-
Ha! I am immune to your food ramblings because I don't like lamb and the crepes do not appeal. Now if you start talking about caramel creams it may be a different story.
Good morning, all! Off to Atlantic City with my mom to watch the AHL All-Stars Game! I'm sure gambling will be involved, though I loathe the slot machines. I can never figure out why a particular combo of snakes, pyramids, and aluminum foil deflector beanies is a win, but snakes, pyramids and a pharaoh is not. Does that make any sense at all? I know that AFDBs are all-powerful, but really?
While there, I'll scout the bars for dehydrated liquers and report back to my co-investors. We're gonna make a mint with our dehydrated drinks line. A mint, I tell ya!
A huge welcoming roar to Athena! Long time, no see, my friend! Replies to PMs coming when I return.
Happy weekend, all!
-
Have a great time, Scoot!
Barbara, you are making my mouth water - especially for Brie....yummm.
Waving to all. Having a lazy day reading the Sunday NY Times. I still feel awkward not doing it on paper but it does save messes and inky fingers. Just fired off a letter to the editor. :-)
-
Hello to all you wonderful women!
Welcome back Athena!
I have been away from the boards for quite a while, but I wanted to pop in and say "hi" to everyone. I hope you are all well and having a wonderful day.
((((HUGS)))))
-
Hello from one Mary to another, covertanjou! Good to see you again.
Good to see you too, Athena. It sounds like you have had some adventures.
Susie-I had to laugh at your comment, "I sure can pick a good hunk of meat." Weren't you just calling him a ratbag a few pages back?

Put me down for the dehydrated tequila in a patriotic bag investment scheme. Should go over well in Florida right now.
Mary

I was referring to the leg of lamb

Thought the rain had stopped and now it's started again. -
The cicus is coming to town. The clowns haven't even left Florida yet and we are already getting commercials about them in Michigan. It is going to be a long year.
-
I don't know how to make a link active-you'll have to copy and paste, but speaking of the circus-

I'm at work - boring. Having 4 days in a row off work made me realise I like not working
Pity I have to. -
Haven't you seen the new tee shirt with the logo about "chickens eat fetuses"?. I forget what else it has on it but it seems to be a good seller. It's for people who are not "pro-life", I think. Frankly, I am not surprised at anything I see on these tee shirts and as long as they don't scream the "F" word at me, I just ignore them. Hang in there people. It can only get worse!

-
I didn't know Cain was a movie star. Watching Casino Jack and in the movie Kevin Spacey tells him and the whole senate hearing off for the money mongerers they are (I think it was an imagination scene). Too funny!
-
Hi Mary and Medigal. Good to see you.
We just got back from the emergency room. DH slipped on the ice and fell flat on his chest. He heard something crack. so we went in and he had a bunch of x-rays. They didn't see a break but he is so sore.
-
Ouch Rosemary! I hope he feels better soon.
It is so good to see you Medigal. Please come by more often!
Trying to pull together resources to go visit some good friends who live in Hawaii. We would have a place to stay-we just need airfare. Unfortunately, I think we are going to owe the IRS money this year, since we no longer have any dependents at home. My husband just changed his withholding last week. I'm sure we're going to have to pay.
I wish we had Mitt Romney's tax rate. Mary
-
Mary, don't we all??!!!
-
Waving hello to Mary, Athena and Medigal.
Well, Mary, at least he pays his taxes, unlike the 36 Obama staffers who owe 800K in back taxes.
The primary is tomorrow. Why can't I find ONE person to vote for?
-
I doubt even the President has the capacity or the clout to order White House employees to pay their taxes, Barbara! According to CBS News, some $3.4 billion in back taxes is owed by federal employees nationwide. The reasons?
Many people who owe back taxes file returns but cannot pay the full amount when their taxes are due, said IRS spokesman Anthony Burke. Others may be disputing the bill, may have filed jointly with a spouse who owes taxes or may have had their tax bills increased by an audit and cannot pay the higher amount.
However, what I don't understand is why federal tax is not taken off at source? -
Good morning All! It was a lovely weekend--lots of cooking, lots of eatting, lots of watching "Pride & Prejudice" with colin firth as well as "Downton Abbey."
Lindasa, fed taxes are taken out at the source BUT the amount taken out is dependant on what you claim as dependants. So if you have too many dependants, less is taken out leaving you owing more.
Me I always like to have more taken out than less. Oh I get that means that the government is making interest money off what it owes me but I don't care. Decreases the stress in my life exponentially to always know I am getting some sort of a refund. I suspect lots of the people who find themselves owing make miscalculations of what they think they will get in deductions.
I do not blame Obama for staffers who might owe on their taxes any more than I would blame Nwut or Romney---You can be an example but you can't make adults do the right thing.
-
3monstmama-That is exactly why my husband and I will be having to pay this year. He never adjusted his number of dependents after our kids moved out. We had to pay last year, and he should have changed his dependents then, but he didn't. He finally changed it a couple of weeks ago. For some reason, he was claiming 5 dependents, even though there were only 4 of us. I asked him if he was claiming the dog.....
I think a lot of people that owe taxes are people that are self-employed, or people that have income other than wages. One is responsible for paying quarterly taxes in that case, and I have a feeling a lot of people don't.
Mary
-
Maybe I am just a 'good little citizen' but I my DH and I pay our taxes. He pays estimated quarterly as he is a musician but we pay. We usually get a small refund since I figured out how to calculate the number of dependents so I don't let them have my $ all year.
It is interesting that yes, many people do not pay their taxes but the number of people who are on the immediate White House staff is so high. And the $ are so big. The average owed is 24K!!! That is what many people in this country make in a year. I will try to research the Bush staffers and see what they owed.
I mean, six high ranking cabinet nominees had tax problems (as in not paying them). I don't get it.
-
I agree Barbara-it is shameful that high ranking cabinet members are not paying their taxes.
Mary
-
DH bought me flowers for my BDay. Awww.

-
Barb - that is so lovely - love what he wrote on the envelope.
-
Hey girls - the guy who sits behind me at work is in a band and they just recorded their first single. I really like it, so I thought I'd share it with you - costs nothing to listen to it on this site.
Let me know what you think - especially the old rockers like me

Rocking Susie
-
Susie-Their music kind of reminds me of Blues Traveller. Nice. What instrument does your co-worker play?
Happy Birthday Barbara! He's a keeper!
Mary
-
Barbara what lovely flowers, and by the way happy Bday! I do like what the card says. We all are special as far as I am concerned.
-
Lovely flowers Barbara!~
I think I owe a few hundred in taxes. I expected a refund. Shows how much I know. Oh well!
-
Mary - he plays base guitar - I loved the beat
-
Nice sound, Susie. Thanks all. He is a keeper.
-
Barbara .. Happy Birthday! The flowers are lovely .. what a wonderful note M wrote you. He's a keeper for sure. Hope you enjoyed your day.
Going to be a nice day today in the 60's. Yay! And the wind has died down, so I'll be running the dogs in the fields later.
Hope everyone has a great day,
Bren
