Hi ladies - I'm curious about why you chew ice??  I'm doing Taxotere/Cytoxan . . . wondering if that would help with my numb tongue?  It's numb for about a week following treatment  I don't ice anything. . . and knock on wood, my nails are fine.

Hi ya'll. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. Appt was at 10:30. I am hyper as hell from the steroids and benedryl. No far no nausea to speak of. I have my shot at 4:30 tomorow.

Bailey yes I chew on ice because it supposedly minimizes mouth side effects.

Glad you all are feeling good!

Bailey - I chew on ice during my Taxotere also because I was told it minimizes mouth SE's.  I have the taste changes right away but have so far escaped mouth sores and other issues.  I haven't iced my nails and so far so good.  I've always had very strong nails so maybe that helped.

I suck on the ice for the Adriamycin. Icing fingers and toes during tax is about all the ice I think I could manage! Have you tried the olive oil (sorry to sound like an evangelist, but darn it all, I'm starting to swear by it).

Gator - Glad things are going well. I slept for 13 hours (except for 6-7 bathroom trips) and I'm feeling okay. Just a little sluggish. I'll give myself the Neulasta this afternoon (have to find a place at work - fortunately we have a lounge I can lock myself into and have enough room to manuever).

    TGIF - happy Friday everyone.

    Hey all,

I am at treatment #3 right now. My blood work was all good this morning except my hemoglobin was a little low & my onc thinks this may be contributing to the extreme fatigue I've been having. I told him even with the Ativan I haven't been sleeping well at all. He did write me a script for a non narcotic sleeping pill. Plus, I gained 9 lbs. Since my last treatment, all water retention from the Taxotere. He also gave me a script for a diuretic & potassium, but he only wants me to take it 3 x a week because I have low blood pressure. I sure hope this is one SE effect that doesn't last long! My ankles & feet are awful looking. I'm doing a lot of elevating.

He actually increased my steroids for this treatment since I had that reaction my first treatment to Taxotere. He also started the drip at 50 & increased it by 50 every 15 minutes until I got to 250. I've done great with no reaction, si Idon't mind going slower. I'm just about done with my Cytoxin then I'm gone. Hopefully not to go home & go in to roid rage!

Hope everyone is doing okay, Neulasta shot for me tomorrow.

Bailey i dont have numb tongue but 9 days post tx from last AC and my mouth just is terrible. Burning mouth and throat so sore swallowing water hurts. I know its not strep because it starts mid morning and gets worse throughout the day. No fever either.

I've been on the taxol thread and see some are suffering with mouth issues and that has me nervous.

Sorry for the complaining, I'm just so discouraged.

Rachel I've tried swishing the olive oil but I'm going to take a spoonful tonight.

K ladies, I hope you all have a weekend spent with those you love, and feeling well.

Rachel - would you mind posting the olive oil treatment again?  How much, how often, and does it keep your tongue from being tingly/numb?  Thanks!

Gracie - rest well and hope you have a SE-free weekend!

    Hope everyone ejoys their weekends.

I'm starting to feel like an olive oil evangelist...! I'm just winging it, based on what a friend with two rounds of cancer behind her tried at the suggestion of her doctor. I take a tablespoon of olive oil (I don't think it matters much what kind), swish it around for a few seconds, and then swallow it. It took a while to be able to swish more than once or twice, but I'm getting used to it. I usually do it in the morning and the evening.

Laura - So sorry the mouth sores are so bad for you. Has your MO had any other suggestions?

Miraculously I made it through 7 hours of work - needed to finish up my new radio show that airs tomorrow. Phew! Neulasta went okay. Tomorrow I'm sleeping in.

I am doing okay. I woke up today feeling good. Got my nueslata shot today and it hurt like hell. It burned and it has never burned before. IDK. I actually went to see a movie tonight with my girlfriends and had dessert afterwards. I have a little heartburn from the trio of desserts I hogged down, but I feel pretty good.

I am going to Clearwater tomorrow to watch my baby girl play in her first college softball tournament. She has a full athletic scholarship to college and is doing very well in the classroom and on the field. I can't wait! I am so excited!!

I hope everyone else does well this weekend!! :)

Gator - Go team! I hope she does well, and I'm glad you'll be able to watch! With the Neulasta, did they let it warm up? Since I give it to myself, I know it's usually kept cold but can be kept at room temp for a bit - the colder it is, apparently the more it can burn. It bothered me the first time I got it at the hospital, but it's been fine when I've given it to myself.

Rachel & Heatherb, so sorry about the hot flashes. I just got back from getting my Neulasta shot, so just like clockwork in a couple of days my low grade fevers and night sweats will begin. I'll be right there with you. I took my nighttime dose of my oral steroid last night & got no sleep, so again I was the first one there for my shot. I take my final dose of steroids tonight, yay!

Gator - have a great day at your daughters game today, so happy you went out for a nice dinner and lots of desserts last night. Hoping your daughter wins today & you have another happy day.

I just took a muscle relaxer, so am going to TRY to get a little shut eye.

Have a great day all! Gracie

Gator have a wonderful day and good luck to your daughter!

Rachel and Heather, hope you are feeling good today.

Have any of you gained weight? I'm a stress eater so this has been terrible! I need to start eating healthier because this is ridiculous.

Okay, I just popped a Compazine. Haven't thrown up, but the Emend and Zofran don't seem to be keeping the queasiness away this time. Also slugging some ginger ale. Guess today will be a real stay-near-the-bed/couch day. Hoping to get at least a short walk... just going down to the mailbox today was sketchy.

Gracie - It's good that your MO is adjusting your treatments to your reactions. Have you tried taking iron to keep  your hemoglobin up? I'm normally low on the blood iron scale, so I've had to watch it really carefully.

Thanks for the thoughts. I think the last med tamed things down. I made it through a 15-minute walk, but just spent most of the day sleeping or resting (or checking the computer...!)

Omg. The bone/joint pain from the Taxol is killer. Oxy's are my new best friend.

Rachel and mardibra - Hoping you are both feeling better soon.

Rachel - Glad to see the meds have finally started working a bit.

mardibra - I take Taxotere, and the Neulasta shot the day after treatment.  I don't know much about Taxol, do you get the shot after treatment, because that shot is what causes my bone and joint pain.  A lot of us take Claritin for the Neulasta shot, but I still get the pain, hopefully not as bad as I could. Now with all that being said, I had  my shot this morning and am already having some bone and joint pain, which is very usual for me the same day as the shot.  I'm going to take some Aleve and a muscle relaxer and save my Percocet for bedtime tonight, since it constipates me after treatment.

I was able to get a pretty good nap in today after coming home after getting the Neulasta shot.  Just had a my favorite salad from Applebees while I still have my taste buds!  One last steroid pill to take tonight, I'm thinking about skipping it.  I'm so tired of the jitters and not sleeping.

Hope the rest of you wonderful ladies are having a good night!

Rachel - glad you found something to calm the stomach down.  Rest is your friend.

Mardibra - I get the bone aches and pains too and I am on Taxotere which is the same family as Taxol.  I don't know if it's from the Neulasta or the Taxotere as both can cause it.  Mine hasn't been too awful as long as I stay ahead of it.  Hope you feel better.

Gracie - Here's hoping the next few days are good ones for you too!

Rachel, so sorry for the rough day, glad you were able to rest.

Mardibra oh my goodness I was so hoping the taxol would be easier for you. I hope you are getting relief.

Rachel the mouth has been bad all along, but after the last AC, terrible. Sore throat worse than any strep Ive ever had, sore burning mouth and thrush again. I've been on the taxol thread and read of others with mouth issues, ugh. Watching my normally low temp tonight.

Gator sounds like a great time.

A good nights sleep to everyone,

    Hugs, Laura

It is amazing to me how things change so quickly. OMG, the pain is unreal!!! I think I would rather puke on AC than deal with this pain!!!! I cannot find my leftover Vicodin from surgery, so I have Tylenol. Oh joy!!

To add insult to injury, I now have mouth sores,m sore throat and painful gas to go along with this. Yea!!!

The softball games went very well. They won 2 out of 3. She played swesome. I am going to try and go back for the last 2 games today. But I am not sure.....

    Take care my friends.

Hi gator - did you take the Claritin? Also, I found that Aleve worked better than Tylenol (for me). But my MO said to call her this time if it was unbearable and she would prescribe something stronger. Last time I was fortunate to have leftover Percocet from my BMX... The pain is awful. I'm so sorry you're in agony.

I'm calling my MO today. Even with the oxycodone the pain is bad.
