Rosemary - so sorry about Bobba kitty - it sure hurts to lose them doesn't it?
Hugs, Sandy
-
Rosemary, sending prayers and hugs to you and family for the loss of Bobba, from me and Cyd, the cat.
-
((Rosemary)) So sorry.
-
Oh, Rosemary... I'm sorry to hear about your Bobba kitty. I know this might sound trite, but you really did make the right decision for her. Hugs to you...

Rosemary - such a hard decision to make, AND a very unselfish one. You are brave.
And the world is "puddle wonderful" here too... shhh... even the cows are happy ;-) A friend sent this to me, don't knwo why it keeps starting & stopping...maybe a more techy person can fix it?
-
Rosemary .. I am so sorry about Bobba kitty. Even when we know it's the right decision to make, it's still so painful to let them go.
Sending you a big hug.
Blue ... Hope you are feeling better today ... I've been missing you.
hugs,
Bren

Where's Athena????????
36 celcius forecast for today and then we might get a little relief. It's crazy, I don't know how it can be so hot and humid and no sign of any thunderstorms as is usual at this time of year.

Snowing!
-
Sorry girls - I would much rather have snow. I'm not trying to rub your noses in it - it's quite horrible actually. For those who aren't familiar with the celcius temps - it will 97 F today!!!
-
Susie, your weather sounds like DC in the summer -- 98 degrees and 99% humidity.
I, too, wonders where our Lioness is.
-
Official temp was 37 or 98.6 - good grief - tomorrow will be cooler only 30 thank goodness - still no rain.
-
Snowing here, too!! Got to load up the bird feeder so my kitties can be entertained. It's like watching TV for me!
May as well head down the hill for my Pilates and just stay in town till my afternoon massage. Then the roads will be better when I come back up. And the massage is not a fun one--it's all deep tissue work that leaves me battered and bruised, but moving better.
Missing dear Athena, too. I don't post often, but I read and keep up. Love this group.
And I had great brussel sprouts a couple nights ago. Funny how we don't have to talk about them any more. We must have gotten really boring to some people!
-
Boring is beautiful ... love it.
We've been having 'Spring in January' but I guess the party is almost over. Rain now - snow tomorrow they say. Susie ... in spite of that I sympathize with you on your weather ... that hot is just miserable. I think I'd much rather have the cold.
Indy is hosting the Super Bowl this year. I'm not at all into football but I sure hope we don't get a big snow or ice storm. Because that will not be pretty at all.
Have a good day everybody!
-
It's much cooler this morning thank goodness. Still no rain, so I will have to try and water the garden this afternoon. We had frozen dinners last night - way too hot to cook. Maybe we could live in a colder country in Summer and come back here for the winters - I do keep on at Steve about moving to New Zealand where I was born.
Poppy seems happier today too - poor kitty. She was just sitting outside by the pool and her tail was hanging down into the water
and she hates water...Work was an effort yesterday - a 2 hour workshop in the afternoon. Also I have to pack up my stuff and move today some time - seems like that's all I do there, I've lost count of the moves I've made. At least it's only up 1 floor and not to a different building.

It is another double Dewars kinda day. No rocks this time, Cherryl.
Susie and Wabbit, since I have moved south, I have no issues with heat here. When I lived in DC, it was hotter there from July-September that it is here in FL. You DIE in that heat. 99% humidity and no breeze. Oh man. The temp here has never gone above 93-94 since I have lived here and there is always a breeze, as I choose to live at the beach.. On the other hand, I had to go to VT last Jan. and OMG, I thought I would die! It was -4 and I could not stop shaking even after being in the car with the heater going full blast until at least 45 minutes had passed (and my co-worker had shed all outer garments).
-
Barb - I'm jealous of the sea breeze
-
Interesting news from our Capital - Canberra - only 2 degrees C this morning - really weird.
-
That is COLD???
-
Maybe nobody watched this when I posted it - but putting it up again to "tempt" the Lioness

http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/lXKDu6cdXLI?rel=0
Yup, rainy snow supposed to be coming East....
-
Barb - 35 in farenheit. Canberra is in a much more southern location, it's the country capital, we don't have state capitals.
-
I think a lot of it is just what you get used to. We think we are cold at 40F when winter first starts but by the end of it that is a nice no jacket day.
I remember going to upstate NY one winter long ago. Our friends who lived there said it had warmed up and was going to be nice. I have never been so cold in my life ... was freezing my arse off in a heavy winter coat and they were running around in light jackets! We refuse to go to FL to visit from May thru September ... just too hot and humid for us. But that is in JAX so maybe the Tampa area is not as bad. Or maybe we are wimps
-
Just read a report of snow down south in the skiing region - wish they'd send some our way.
I can remember being in Canberra one summer and it was over 100 F, so this really low temp is very unusual.
-
Sunflowers ... loved the link! The cows seemed pleased ... and an audience is an audience.
Susie ... maybe some of that cool weather will head your way?
-
WR, my biggest fear is that the Super Bowl traffic will shut down downtown traffic. I'm working downtown that weekend and I'm wondering how much earlier I'll have to leave the house to get to work about 0630 (My shift starts at 7). And how much of the 11.5 hours I have off between Sat. night and going back in Sunday morning will be eaten up with the commute both ways. Yep, it's all about me.
-
Yikes Riley! I did read that they will be closing some of the roads too. My condolences that you have to get in the middle of it all.
-
I'm copying this is full because my links never work! Interesting research study for those who take statins:
Statin use linked to higher diabetes rates in womenGENEVRA PITTMANFrom Thursday's Globe and MailPublished Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 3:34PM ESTLast updated Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 3:35PM EST1 commentEmailPrintDecrease text sizeIncrease text sizeCholesterol-lowering drugs known as statins may be linked to an increased risk of diabetes in middle-aged and older women, according to a U.S. study – but researchers said the benefits of the drugs still make them valuable for people at risk. The study, published in the U.S.-based Annals of Internal Medicine, found that among the thousands of women looked at, those who reported using any kind of statin at the start of the six- to seven-year study were nearly 50 per cent more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than those not taking statins.“Statin medication use in postmenopausal women is associated with an increased risk for diabetes mellitus,” wrote Yunsheng Ma of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, and his colleagues. The group used data from the U.S.-based Women’s Health Initiative, including more than 150,000 diabetes-free women in their 50s, 60s and 70s.As part of that larger trial, some of the women were prescribed diet changes or took daily hormone therapy or vitamins, while others weren’t told to change their diet or lifestyle. At the start of the study in the mid-1990s, the women filled out health questionnaires that included whether or not they were taking statins, as well as information on other diabetes risks, such as weight and activity levels. The researchers then followed participants for six to seven years, on average. In total, just over 10,200 women developed diabetes, with women who reported using any kind of statin – about one in 14 of the participants – 48 per cent more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than those not taking statins. That was after considering other known diabetes risks.Previous studies, mostly in men, have suggested a smaller 10- to 12-per-cent increase in diabetes among statin users, said Naveed Sattar, a metabolism and diabetes researcher at the University of Glasgow, who did not take part in the study. Those numbers may be more accurate because they come from trials in which participants were randomly assigned to take a statin or not, which can better account for possible differences in groups of patients, he said, noting that this kind of observational study can’t prove cause-and-effect.Still, “broadly speaking, this kind of confirms that statins may well increase diabetes risk,” Dr. Sattar said. The reasons why remain unclear, but the effect of statins on the muscles and liver may lead the body to make slightly more sugar than it normally would, or cause users to exercise a bit less, he added. While this means that a bit more caution may need to be taken in broad statin use, the benefits still outweigh the potential risk for people with heart disease, he and other experts aid.Instead, statin users should try to reduce their risk of diabetes in other ways, such as by losing weight and getting more exercise, and should have their blood sugar regularly monitored.“The conclusion still stands that, over all, those people who’ve got existing heart disease or have had previous strokes, they still would get vast benefit from statins,” Dr. Sattar said.Reuters

Interesting Linda. My cholesterol was up a bit on AIs and I did not do statins. I have had enough of side-effects.
We had a kitty funeral today. I thought I was okay today until we got a sympathy card from the vet. Between that and the funeral today was not a good day.
-
Rosemary-Isn't it nice when the vet sends a sympathy card? We had our beloved dog, Kermit, put to sleep almost 25 years ago, and I remember the vet sent us a card. We went to a BBQ last summer, and I started talking to a woman who looked familiar. Turns out she was our former vet, from 25 years ago. My husband started tearing up talking to her all these years later. Losing a pet is hard.

Losing a pet sucks. I've lost 4 kitties in the last 20 years, and bought a cremation urn to keep their ashes in. I've already let the family know to bury the urn with me. It's a bittersweet idea.
I'm on statins because the Tamoxifen really screwed up my blood lipids. My good cholesterol fell to 25 and my triglyceride level was over 300! With the statins, my good cholesterol is up to 40 and my triglycerides are down to 200. Not where I want them to be, but better. The Tamoxifen also gave me a fatty liver, which already puts me at an increased risk of diabetes. *sigh* One more thing to worry about.
-
Our neighbors just had to put their wonderful dog down and when the vet gave them the box it was in a velvet bag which had embroidered on it "I will meet you at the Rainbow Bridge."
I am sorry about your kitty...
