Glad you liked it. I forgot about the mushrooms, I ate those too. We had it with a Near East brown and pecan rice. It went really well together. Mashed potatoes would be good too. It would go with most starches I think.

    (((Michelle))))

It's funny how different people react to radiation.  I thought I was going to fry and have open sore blisters but I didn't have any breakage of skin just a bad sunburn.  But it healed real fast.

Thanks, Deb.  They warned me that this would happen because of the way they are doing my rads in that specific area.  Everywhere else just looks tanned.  That plate of food looks luscious!

Our Maine Lobsters are more flavorful, the rock lobsters are kind of bland.  But I still liked it.  That was at the Lobster Pot Restaurant in Bermuda.

Michelle- Awww, dang!, I was hoping you would get through the rads without much pain or problems, would they let you take a break for a couple of days, not sure it would help though?

Seaside- What i did with the belguin chx was added more flour than called for and let the sauce reduce some without the lid then added the chicken pieces and put the lid back on, took off lid and cooked an additional 40 minutes or until thickened. I also didnt add ALL the beer i had a few sips before adding it LOL!

Carrie- Thinking about you and hoping your mom is doing ok!

Hauntie- I love arthea franklin, sounds like you had a great time.

Kay- I couldnt remember if you told me you made your own Veggie burgers or not, but if you buy them i would be careful of all the sodium in them which can be hard on heart, and i knew you were having some issues with that! '-))

Here is a quick and easy meal thats pretty good

    SLOPPY JOE CASSEROLE;

    INGREDIENTS

    1
lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef, cooked, drained
    1
can (15.5 oz) original sloppy joe sauce
    1
    can Pillsbury® refrigerated original breadsticks
    1/2
    small can of corn (drained)
cup shredded Cheddar cheese (2 oz)

    DIRECTIONS

1 Heat oven to 375°F. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, mix beef and sloppy joe sauce. Heat to boiling over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Add, corn, 2 Meanwhile, unroll dough; separate into 12 breadsticks. Cut each into 4 pieces, about 1 1/2 inches long. 3 Pour beef mixture into ungreased 12x8-inch or 11x7-inch (2-quart) glass baking dish. Place dough pieces in single layer over beef mixture. 4 Bake uncovered 13 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese; bake about 2 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.( i sometimes add a pinch of brown sugar to the sauce and meat mixture)

I have used cresents or bisquits instead of the bread sticks

Michelle, we must have been posting at the same time. Sorry you are having skin issues. If it's any comfort, I got really red. It looked like a shirt on me. Saw the RO when I still had 5 txs to go, and he thought I was going to blister and peal and even gave me the stuff I would need for it. I never got any worse with the last 5 txs. And I did start healing immediately when I was done. I hope you'll start healing soon. It hurts just to read your description.

Debbie, thank you for your concern. You gave me a couple of recipes to make my own veggie burgers, and there is one on the package of quinoa I bought too. I will try making them. I have been using packaged ones. So far no problems from sodium, and the docs have not told me to reduce it. But I might as well be proactive on it and not wait for problems. I can't believe how much I like veggie burgers. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, I used to eat lots of hamburgers. Tonight will be homemade veggie chilli. My DH was the one who made that. Joyce, your DH sounds like a dream. When mine does cook, I have to tell him what to make. I wish he would take charge and pick and make dinner sometimes. But he has a really demanding job, and I am not even working right now, so I have a lot of nerve to complain.

    Have a great day everyone!

Debbie - just two more zaps to the really bad area, the rest of the radiated area is not bad at all.  I can do it, and I'd prefer to just get it over with.  I had the three day weekend break and it didn't help much, so at this point I just want it all over and done with.  I don't think the boosts to my scar area will hurt because I really don't have any feeling in that area.  I am lucky that I've not had the overwhelming fatigue that so many people get.  January 12th...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning.....mom came home yesterday, will not convert her till next tues.  Want  her to rest up and lie low till then  the pacemaker only keeps her heart from going below 60 but doesnt regulate.  hers is running around 130.  Otherwise she is tired but doing well...thanks everyone.

The son left this morning...back to OhioCry

Michelle  I watched that utube video about rinos....the lobster ravioli looked fabulous.  Glad you got in and had a great meal.  You have such unbeleivable energy that rads isnt gonna get you tired.

Debbie   we love sloppy joes...I make my own sauce though..but that recipe sounds like a good way to change it up a a bit.

Last night was chicken alfredo with spinach...my son loved it and took the leftovers home.  my husband was just neutral, he is sooo hard to please, but yet has never cooked a meal in his life other than spaghetti.  After my surgery when he was taking care of me, I ate a lot of canned soup.  In my next life I will know better and marry someone who can cook!

Carrie, I hear you Sister.  When we married My DH ate chili or pork n beans cold from the can.  Luckily he never had to take care of me until after we got a microwave!  Even now his cooking is limited to hard boiled eggs, toast and steaks cooked on a George Forman Grill or prepared foods heated in the microwave,  Unfortunately almost every prepared food contains black pepper and I can't eat that, it gives me kidney stones!

My DH never, ever ventured into the kitchen to cook anything except a grilled sandwich until this summer when I started chemo.  Then...voila...the man can cook a decent meal!

I made the mushroom beef barley soup from the recipe I posted yesterday.  Very easy and tasty, although like most soups I expect it to taste better tomorrow.

The new college grad DD is taking me to rads tonight.  When we get home, we'll have the Rino's Place leftovers along with a salad.  Yum!

Carrie - I guess I decided that nothing is going to get me down!  My DH thought I was nuts this summer when we kept having family over on the weekends right after my chemo treatments.  But I think that sort of stuff is what keeps me going.  And I am not working after having worked for almost 30 years while raising my kids, so this is easy by comparison!  And having been away from the family for 20 years, I really don't want to miss a thing!

My dentist really messed me up for chewing.  He removed a piece of bone from my lower jaw on the left and placed it in the upper jaw on the right.  So I won't be able to chew on either side.  Nothing but soft food for me until I heal.  My face was swollen this morning and I am taking it easy at home, keeping track of when I take which pill that was prescribed.  DH put together a pot of split pea soup before he went to play golf at noon.

The bone graft is a preliminary step for placing implants in four months.  Silly me, I didn't think much of having this precedure.  Had a lunch and movie date with a longtime friend that had to be concelled.   My sister sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers.  She is such a sweet person.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

"What's for dinner" is really a question at my house. I live with a friend who is a vegetarian – virtually vegan – with diabetes, and a son who is on a strict LCHF diet and mostly eats cream and pork, with the occasional vegetable in between (a somewhat nasty description but not much). And then there is me, a carnivore who likes vegetables but don't eat anything made from flour, because it feels better and keeps my weight stable. So today's dinner was lentil soup with noodles for the vegetarian, lamb chops with yoghurt for LCHF boy and lamb chop/apple/sweet potato casserole for me ...

I kept seeing this thread under Active Topics but only just now decided to jump in. One of my goals is to eat a little healthier, so maybe this will be an incentive.

I just put two sweet potatoes in to bake, and I'll sautee some broccoli rabe and garlic. I baked some salmon the other day and will just heat that up. Tomorrow is tx #2 and fortunately my appetite is still intact (maybe sadly so, as I get really hungry, with cravings for things like mac and cheese. I've held that craving at bay, at least, and I've resisted having a 2nd bowl of ice cream like I often do).

Looking forward to hearing your ideas and sharing with you.

Michelle- I love soups and stews the next day too, the flavors have a chance to marry and just taste better. We are counting down the days with you!

Carol- I hear that can be a painful procedure, my aunt had it done and she was on pain pills for quite awhile, but her teeth look beautiful! agree with michelle, take lots of pain meds!  I thought about getting that done but im a big chicken when it comes to dentist and needles. Hope you feel better soon.

Home from #24 and the RO made some changes.  My skin is quite bad and I now have a full assortment of wound care products including UltraKlenz wound cleaner, and some dressings that are impregnated with Aquaphor (Cuticerin).  He changed the zap that has caused all the trouble although I had just tonight's and tomorrow's remaining.  He said it will probably get a little worse from the delayed reaction.  But I have to say the Cuticerin provided significant relief.  He told me to keep taking pain meds...I'll do that when I go to bed.

Dinner tonight was leftovers from yesterday's dinner at Rino's Place.  DH made a salad and DD stayed for dinner.

Welcome Rachel!  If you look back a few pages, we have lots of soup recipes which might appeal to you as you go through your treatments.

    Awww Michelle,

I was really hoping that you would make it to the finish line without having to worry about all of this! Even though my skin was quite charred, my RO and the nurse said my skin held up well (could have fooled me!).... Although, I didn't have any sores so maybe I was lucky!

I used the Aquaphor (yucky but worked), Silverdine solution toward the end and some kind of guaze patches with a lotion in them toward the very end...

While the burn does continue for a few days after you are done, I don't recall things getting worse for me once they quit with the whole breast rads... In fact, things got better during the boosts!

    Sending you very gentle hugs!

Thanks, Seaside!  I think mine got so bad because they consciously elected to keep the beam shallow and avoid organ damage.  The RO had warned me that it might get ugly towards the end, so I wasn't surprised when it got uncomfortable.  But the raw sores are pretty nasty and I guess I need to be careful about infection.  The rest of the radiated area is not bad at all, just mostly tanned-looking.

    Michelle,

The fact that they were trying to keep it shallow (and for good reason) probably did contribute... The areas where I had the worst burning were areas that were not being directly radiated but, due to the radiation angles, were indirectly radiated on the skin surface due to scatter....

You are almost to the end.... You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you approach the final treatment on the 12th!! Then, I expect to hear the celebrating in NH all the way here in NY! I'll be listening!

    Hang Tough!

Carrie- I'm glad your mom is doing ok.  I still want to know how your kids did the pub drawl to raise money.  It sounds like fun and something I would be willing to give a go!

    Michelle- You are amazing.

Carol- OUCH!  I hope you are doing ok, and as someone else said I hope you have pain killers :(

Mandalala- Good for you for finding a way to make the meal work!  It sound slike a pretty hard thing to do with the different diet restrictions.  Very creative!

Welcome Rachelvk!  I think you'll have fun here, we do!

I haven't been on for a day or so because I was trying to pretend I was not sick from a stomach bug.  I went to bed before the kids last night.  But feel much better today thank goodness!  My oldest complained of a belly ache at bed time too DH said but was fine today as well.I made meatloaf last night and pot pie tonight.  It is sooooo cold our way, feel good food seems the way to go.  Though my oldest made me buy steamers and seafood at the store today- I guess we will have that tomorrow night.

Oh Carol, what a journey!  It will be worth it in the end.

Mandalala  Everyone here eats different things. I have been vegetarian since 16, but given my voracious appetite I always find a way to fill myself up

For dinner tonight buckets of Cioppino!
Can't seem to get rid of it,as it is seafood and won't last.

Giving it away to everyone I know!

Laurie,  sorry I forgot you asked that question.  I am not real sure of the particulars, because my kids live out of town their friends signed them up.  they each paid 20$ and got the t-shirt and was able to get discount drinks at all the local pub/restaurants.   There were 7 listed on the back of the shirts....we live in a small town.  All the rest that participated put out food for the group, they started at point A and ended at the last one.  the group all traveled (walked) from pub to pub together and got donations from the patrons...and they drank!!! ha ha it was a very young group and I think there was a lot of drinking.  It was a win win situation as they would be out partying anyways.   Hope you feel better.

Michelle So sorry for the skin situation, thank goodness you are almost done. I had mine in the summer and it was so hard to stay covered from the sun during that time, but it did heal really fast when i was done.

Had a whopping headache last night, so no dinner...had a bowl of cereal and went to bed.
