    What a lovely house. We are getting a dusting of snow here today. It's very pretty but with the warm weather we've been having there is no gaurentee of a white  Christmas.

     My son in Illinois called and said they'd be here for Christmas-if he doesn't have to work. If they don't come we'll have to get down there next month. I want to see Daisy and so does DH. He was actually the one who brought up going down to see her-er, I mean them.

    Christmas cards are supposed to get done today so I had better get to work.

    E - I am sure they are increasing their trolling in Afghanistan, but at least fewer of our soldiers will be exposed.

    So aren't we all happy that the war in Iraq has ended?

    I am happy the war has ended. If I give my opinion about that war, there might be war here. I will say we had excuses to go to war not reasons.

    Susie .. your house is beautiful.  I love the way it's painted.

    Athena ... I read those threads sometimes, but never post.  It's just a bit too strange for me.

    I'm glad the war is over too.  I'd be even happier if we didn't have any soldiers still in Iraq and especially in Afghanistan.

    Thanks for the compliments on the house. The woodwork under the windows is original - we added new awnings over them. The little window at the top of the stairs is leadlight and original. It also has a front door with a leadlight. When we bought it, the front verandah was closed in with horrible sliding windows, so when we did the big reno 17 years ago, we opened it up and put the railings back - great to sit out there in the morning. We also have a big deck leading off the dining room at the back - also nice to sit out there in the evening looking down to the pool.

    It's called a Triple Gable Queenslander - ie it has 3 gables on the roof and an L shaped verandah. The one big problem with it is that the lounge room has 6 doorways leading off it, not leaving much wall space for furniture. It is nice to have 2 sets of french doors leading out to the verandah though. They were built like that for air flow I guess. The colours are traditional Queenslander colours - they even have a special paint colour brochure for this type of house. Most of the older suburbs here are full of this type of house.

    Athena - yes the jacaranda flowers are long gone - left a lovely carpet of mauve on the grass.

    Blue - a girl I worked with got a gorgeous wedding dress from Taiwan or somewhere - cost her $85 - beaded bodice - really lovely. Apparently a lot of wedding shops here import them from Asia anyway and then bung up the price. Might be worth looking online to see if there's something similar. She had no trouble with the fitting, just sent them her measurements and it was fine.

    Not sure I'm keen to tackle the downstairs cleaning today but I guess I'll have to. It's so great going upstairs and seeing the shiny floor - feels great to walk on it too.

    I wish we would withdraw from Afghanistan too - ridiculous to stay there. We have so many able bodied Afghans coming here by boat illegally - why can't they stay there and fight for their country. An article in the paper yesterday, said the first question the illegal immigrants ask is 'Where is my house and my internet access". We have been subject to a boat a day arriving from Indonesia and our government does nothing to fix it or stuffs up anything they try. Our old government had fixed it, but this lot undid the temporary protection visa and offshore processing solution, so the boats have incresed to a point that we feel like we are being invaded.

    Hello and Seasons Greetings------I wish you all would STOP your falling and tripping on everything,it makes me very nervous.  I don't want any of you spending down time injured,there's been enough of the other. However you are a hardy bunch and give inspiration to many on this site. (nevermind those Neighsayers).  All of the pictures are fun and beautiful, the trees, houses,sunsets, everything!!!!  May I put my 2cents in on the WeddingDRESS?, Very beautiful!!! How about a dressmaker,take the picture in and see what it would cost?  When I married 47 yrs ago the dress I wanted was a Priscilla of Boston,dress and the mantilla were 1500.00 Parents not able to spend that much. Dressmaker,trip for the material,satin,french lace, beadwork cost 125.00. I felt super special and the dressmaker made the dresses for the bridemaids,too(not included in my dress)  So maybe this is a solution? The dress is absolutely beautiful!!!     Here's a laugh for you. I decided I should do the downstairs floors. Vacuumed them all and washed our ensuite floor. Then decided to wash the tiles in the family room and laundry. Well, I have washed myself into my study and can't get out until the floor drys - quite deliberate because I don't want to be sitting out the back in my pjs. Steve is upstairs on the puter and it will be interesting if he decides to come down :)

    Luckily it's quite warm today already, so it shouldn't take long to dry - the bathroom is dry already.

    Yes, but I forgot to go the loo first - it only took half an hour and it was dry. So now I'm FREE!!!

    Steve came downstairs just when it was dry, so that was lucky.

    Rosemary - that was the idea - at least I could do something.

    Steve's gone off on a bike ride and had the hide to ask me if I wanted to go too - I'm totally pooped. Men just don't get housework is hard work - especially since I got the really sucky Miele vacuum. I could barely lift my arms to fold the washing.



    I think I'll have a shower and go shopping - still got to find Mother a present - sigh.

    Oh, we decorated the tree tonight and I broke the "Lucky Pickle" ornament.

    Please do not tell me that this will bring me bad luck...

    I told my kids I will purchase a new Lucky Pickle tomorrow.Undecided

    I'm not putting the tree up - no fun with no kids in the house, besides it's in the cupboard under the stairs and it's scary in there - I might never find it :)

    Went shopping and got Steve 2 pairs of shorts and me 2 pairs of shorts and a top. When I got home we went to the liquor shop and bought a dozen bottles of wine - 30% off - couldn't pass that up.

    Ang - breaking an ornament is surely not bad luck - what is Lucky Pickle?

    Well, had the hairs done yesterday, cut and color and it looks great! She is really good with color. I did blond and strawberry blond. My real color is medium blond so it looks really natural.

    I think war is stupid. I am not as out there as Ron Paul about foriegn affairs but we need to mind our own business IMHO.

    So I recorded Bag of Bones and the stupid cable company recorded the Sunday one on Monday! I am soooo pi$$ed!!! Pierce Brosnan was really good in part 1. Grrrr.

    I'm having my hairs colored today, with henna.  The last bout of chemo stripped all the red from my hair and it came back mousy gray/brown.  Ugh. 

    I'm with you, Barbara.  I don't know when we decided to become the world's policemen.  Surely that can't be in the Constitution?

    Ang, I don't even have a lucky pickle ornament and look at all the great luck I've had!  Wait....never mind.... ;-)

    We had a 'cold front' come through last night and it went down to 50. High today will be 72. I love this time of year!

    We bought THE dress!  As beautiful as the $7000 one but all french lace.....cost $4000!  Pictures to follow.

    I haven't read back.  Mind and body in pain today from yesterday's stress.  Was getting ready to go to play last night when dad callls.   Mom can't walk at all,  feels dizzy.  Spent all night at hospital.  She may have sufferred a minor stroke but the catscan machine broke as they were wheeling her in.  Waiting to hear this morning.  No cookie baking for me today!  Will keep you posted.

    Happiness can turn to sadness in the blink of an eye.

    "Lucky pickle" is an ornament that looks like a pickle.  Supposed to give you good luck when you have one on your tree.  Going by what enjoyous said maybe I won't buy another one...Wink

    I  made the dough for Neopolitan cookies last night and they're in the fridge, waiting for baking.  I also made peppermint swirl - kind of like Nilla wafers with a hint of peppermint and a pretty red/green/white swirly design.  Finally, peanut butter cookies with the Reese's cup in the middle.  I made them in mini-muffin tins so they're like...um...mini-muffins.  But peanut butter-y.

    Today is oatmeal chocolate chip cranberry! YUM!

    Tomorrow when I go shopping (never on a weekend this close to Christmas) I will buy little minced meat tarts. That will finish my Christmas baking.  Almost everything else has the same recipe - except some molded chocolates. We used some of them yesterday when my grandchildren came over to help decorate the gingerbread house. There has to be one of our Santas on each side of the roof, some trees in the snow icing and this year some white chocolate snowmen too. It's a bit of cheating to buy one already assembled, but it carries on a tradition my mother started more than 50 years ago and the children love it. We crash it on New Year's Day and whoever likes stale candies and hard gingerbread eats it.

    My daughter started a new tradition last year - Santa's Gingerbread House of Horrors.  I can't wait for this year's version!  Hehehehe.
