Olivia, welcome. ITA with Cindy. When you purchase supplements always choose the good stuff. Too add, vitamin C is an antioxidant and as such it protects your body's DNA and other vital molecules from damage caused by oxygen-free radicals.
And...our bodies need acid/alkaline balance. But, they need to be swayed to be more alkaline. I read that the ideal diet should have a natural ratio of 4 parts alkaline to 1 part acid to help prevent cancer and other diseases.
An acidic pH can occur from, an acid-forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients.
Alkaline foods have more calcium/magnesium (i.e chlorophyll rich foods --green leafy veggies, alfalfa grass, barley grass, chlorella, spirulina, blue-green algae and herbs. Chlorophyll can provide protection from carcinogens by strengthening the cells. There are 100's of new chemicals being introduced to the marketplace every year. Our bodies were not designed to handle so many toxins. That's mainly why the alternative treatment protocols recommend that we drink plenty of green juice and take supplements.
Acid foods have more phosphorus (i.e. root vegetables, seeds and meats). Sweet foods, processed junk foods, pasteurized foods, artificial foods, coffee etc. are acidic by nature.
Deep breathing is beneficial. I do it every morning. I posted info about rebounding 2 or 3 pages ago. That's really good for the immune system too
Lack of radiation and chemo are not what caused my cancer, so it's easy for me to rule those options out. The side effects scare me more than cancer. Sometimes I read what some of the women here are going through, and I know that mentally I would not be able to handle it. I think they are brave for choosing that path. I just know that that path would be wrong for me.
Also, if you have not done so already, you may want to consider getting a naturopathic oncologist to guide you along your health journey. Feel free to jump in any time. The women are really warm, health conscious and supportive.
Hugs.

Marianna, I was wondering why you were taking extra zinc. Then, I thought maybe you were trying to raise your progesterone levels. Are you planning on having another hair analysis test soon? If so, please share the results.
Cindy, bio-resonance analysis looks very interesting. I like that it provides so much detail. It seems well worth the $125. Have you had problems with your urinary tract, hypothalamus gland, gallbladder, uterus and thyroid? What advice, if any, were you given to help these stressed organs and glands?
-
Princess,
The main overall advice from Dr. Connealy was that I have the Electro-Accupuncture test mentioned above in the thread-to dig deeper into the issues of the urinary tract and uterus to determine if I may have cancer in other areas of my body. I'm still anxiously awaiting the scheduling of this test.
I gave birth to my only child at 36, she is 12 now and I am 48. Since the birth I have had issues with urinary stress incontinence (peeing when sneezing or coughing) and the inability to hold my urine for long. When I have to go I have to go! Doc's told me over the years that this is very common after giving birth to large babies, 8 lbs, 9 ozs and have offered various different meds that I did not take. I will say that my sysmtoms have improved over the past year of changing my diet and seriously reducing my coffee intake--I used to have a very high stress job and 5-6 cups of coffee per day. I am also in perimenopause and have irregular and heavy periods for the last year. Dr. Connealy has put me on progesterone cream and I haven't had a period since beginning this treatment 3 months ago. This is on my list to discuss with her at my next visit as some of my research shows to only take progesterone during the latter half of the menstral cycle, but she has me taking it every day. I called the nurse about this and she said that the progesterone should be regulating my periods not eliminating them--but this is contrary to the data that I have found.
I have also had thyroid issues since the birth of my daughter however, this was not diagnosed until she was 4. I had serious post partum depression and could not lose the baby weight despite nursing my daughter for 2.5 years. I was also not as proactive about my own health in those days. Dr. Connealy recently switched me from Synthroid to Nature Throid, which is finally leveling out. It was a huge jolt to my body to switch from synthetic T4 to natural T3 & T4.
For any that don't know, the gallblader is a small sac that stores the bile from the liver before it is dumped into the small intestines. Eating a lot of animal based fats (I used to exist on fast food) places a lot of stress on this organ which can swell and back up and can cause indigestion and a feeling of fullness after eating only a little. This is where the coffee enemas come in--see my above thread to understand how it works, plus changing my diet--I have been 95% vegan for 10 months.
The hypothalamus is a complicated regulatory system of the body. When stressed, this gland can affect all hormones including thyroid, cause low body temperature, deplete the adrenal glands lower DHEA, (our aging hormone), affect melatonin causing sleep disorders, and hugely disrupt our immune function. So I am taking several measures to adddress this system. See my supplement regimen in the above thread.
I will say that Dr Connealy spent more time discussing the overall stressors with me than the specific organs and glands that are stressed. These are what she felt were the source of the issues. She told to me find a way to fix the geopatic stress because it is a very serious and real thing, prescribed silver and mycox for candida, and silver again for viruses . Told me to replace my mercury filings and then detox for heavy metals with Red Desert Clay and Zeolite and to regulate my blood sugar with Vanadium and Chromium-2 minerals that I tested low.
The nutritionist said that I can re-do this test every 3 months as that is how often the blood completely changes.
-
Thank you, Cindy. Very helpful. I'm taking the time to view my condition from all angles as well. I never could understand how some diseases are treated without the whole body in mind, it just seems wrong. When I hear many, many woman say that they've all been prescribed the same treatments like rads and tomoxifin, even when their grades vary widely, I become suspicious. I have long felt that western medicine over-treats most conditions. That isn't to say that when you are facing something advanced and serious you must throw everything reasonable at it.
-
Thanks, Cindy. I'm definitely going to seriously consider getting the LSA-Limbic Stress Assessment test. I'm amazed at the accuracy of the results.
I'm in the midst of starting a new business that's going to come with a lot of stress and I'm planning on getting pregnant next year, so I want to stay on top of my health. I've really come a long way. Prior to becoming a health nut, like you, I had a very stressful job and I was not treating my body right. Among other things that I was doing wrong, including staying in a toxic relationship, I was one of those suckers who jumped on the soy bandwagon. It took two uterine fibroids, an ovarian cyst, DCIS, a so-called autoimmune disease, too many yeast infections and fibroadenomas of the breasts, for me to realize that it wasn't just one organ failing at a time, it was a dominoe effect. So I'm really trying hard to pay close attention to my whole body, so that mess does not happen again.
I'm afraid to read your posts. Each one is costing me more money. But of course I'm just kidding. I don't mind. I'd rather pay to help prevent medical problems now, than have to pay for medications later. On that note, it's time for me to make my green juice-kale, ginger, watercress, dandelion and celery. Like Buckley's, green juice tastes awful...But it works!
-
Princess- Power to you! Green juices are my next goal in my line of defenses and immunity building. Just haven't been able to stomach them! I take a carrot, ginger, beet, lemon, apple, and lemon juice at Whole Foods about 2-3 times a week, and am slowly working up the courage to do a green one.... I'll let you know when I cross that big bridge.
As for the hair mineral analysis, well, we will see how accurate that test was here shortly. I did the hair mineral analysis and my bone resorption/turnover test at the same time. The excess copper is supposed to interfere with normal bone resorption rates, so my nutritionist put me on a protocol that included extra zinc and molyB. We will retest on bone resorption in December, a year after I started the protocol.
-
Marrianne,
There is no getting around that green juices taste nasty. However, in addition to all of the wonderful expected benefits of green juices--they have really shifted my taste buds for anything sweet. A couple of months ago when I cheated and had just one bite of my daughter's brownie--I thought I was going to swoon from the sugar high.
Start with the mild greens--cucumber, romaine and zucchini then gradually work your way to the bitter greens-kale, dandelion and watercress. The more bitter it is-the more health benefit.
-
CindyD: Could you add some granny smith apple to give it a sweeter taste, or some ginger?
I haven't done the greens yet, because I don't have the attachment for my juicer. I'm trying to decide if I want the juicer attachment or the Vitamix blender that does the greens. Any idea which one is better?
-
Kaara,
The Vitamix is an awsome product and I use mine several times per day. It is recommended by the juicefeasting website for "juicing." However, in order to get juice, you have to mix water with vegetables, blend and then strain through a nut milk bag. A lot of people juice this way but frankly, it was too much work for me. You could test this process with any blender. It won't pulverize as welI as the Vitamix, but it will give you an idea if the amount of work suits your lifestlye. I use my Vitamix for smoothies, salad dressings, blended soups etc. I often add greens to my smoothies as well, a small handful of spinach or half and avocado is barely noticable with a pint of blueberries, a banana and coconut milk. This is a great way to get more greens but it is not the same as juicing which is more like an intense multi vitamin and mineral that mostly bypasses the digestive process and gets absorbed very quickly into the blood.
I use the Omega for my green juices which are about 1/3 strong greens-kale, parsely, dandelion, watercress, etc 1/3 milder greens-celery, cucumber, romaine, zucchini and 1/3 carrot. There is no one best juicer--mine is great for greens but really slow with carrots. Some juicers can eat a carrot in a few seconds but they don't pull enough out of the greens. Go to youtube and search The Discount Juicer, he has several demonstrations of various types of juicers.
Certainly you could add apples or ginger. I personally don't juice fruit anymore due to candida and blood sugar issues. My doc says berries, avocados, lemons, limes only--but I still occasionally have apples or bananas. When I do have fruit I eat it whole with some nuts or blend it whole in a smoothie with some greens which also keeps my blood sugar more level.
-
PS I always make sure to add some fat to my juices for better vitamin and mineral absorbtion-1 teaspoon of coconut or olive oil.
-
I don't juice fruits either. I eat them whole. You don't really want any sugar in your juices if you are trying to detoxify and rid your body of cancer and/or candida.
Cutting out sugars force cancer cells to die off and stop growing. I read that cancer cells have a metabolism that is 8 times greater that of a regular cell. And we know cancer cells feed off sugar.
Sometimes I'll juice carrots, but I always make sure to add enough bitter herbs, so that it isn't really sweet. I use the pulp to make a spicy carrot and sweet potato soup with cumin, turmeric and peppermint. That's what I'm having now for lunch. It's good!
But I like what Cindy wrote :
- 1/3 strong greens-kale, parsely, dandelion, watercress, etc
- 1/3 milder greens-celery, cucumber, romaine, zucchini
- 1/3 carrot.
Add maybe some ginger and an apple too and it shouldn't be as intense as a pure bitter green juice.
If you start off drinking too much of the pure bitter green juice, you may experience detox symptoms, like: vomiting, nausea, dizziness, headaches and/or fatigue. It's called a healing crisis. Believe it or not, it's actually a good sign. It means toxins are being expelled from the body. If that happens drink water and lie down. If you don't see Jesus or white lights, that means you'll be okay.
Don't underestimate the strong herbs and dark green leafy vegetables, especially when juiced, they are no nonsense medicines. Just 8oz of bitter greens in the beginning is more than enough and gradually work up to drinking a little more each day.

Thanks for the tips ladies, I have a Champion juicer and it works great...just need to add the greens attachment for about $79. You're right...I would never fool with straining through a bag. I'm still considering the Vitamix for the smoothies and the soups, but wow, it's expensive. Maybe a present for us for Xmas! I do the celery, zuccini, pepper, cucumber as it works fine in the juicer, but it won't juice leaves like spinach and kale.

Goji Berries (Lycium barbarum)
Watch the effect that goji berries have on cells.
Acid VS Alkaline

Here's an interesting study about goji. Lycium barbarum inhibits growth of estrogen receptor positive human breast cancer cells by favorably altering estradiol metabolism.

At a pH slightly above 7.4 cancer cells become dormant and at pH 8.5 cancer cells will die while healthy cells will live (Barefoot, pages 66-67). This has given rise to a variety of treatments based on increasing the alkalinity of the tissues such as vegetarian diet, the drinking of fresh fruit and vegetable juices, and dietary supplementation with alkaline minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, cesium and rubidium....

Kaara, I have a champion juicer too. I didn't know about a special attachment for greens. I just run the more difficult things through first -- like parsley, cilantro, spinach. I love my green juices. For a while, I was adding a bit of stevia extract to sweeten it to taste. Now I use coconut water, which is available in many brands these days. I switch up the greens, usually 4-6 kinds in each batch -- romaine and celery are my faves, parsley, cilantro, spinach, cucumber, green pepper. I always have a lemon and a slice of ginger and usually a granny smith apple. It's definitely an acquired taste, but I love my green juices. I drank a lot of them I didn't like along the way. If I were trying to ditch candida, I would drink them without any fruit and get them down whether I liked them or not. I much prefer to enjoy what I consume, however, and the coconut water especially makes a green juice taste good imo.

Althea, don't forget to add watercress to your juices.:)
Watercress The Miracle Food
UK Scientists say watercress is the new super food, able to prevent certain types of cancer.
According to a study published this week in The British Journal of Nutrition, the consumption of a three ounce portion of watercress reduced the presence of a key tumor growth factor six and eight hours after eating the watercress in healthy patients who had previously been treated for breast cancer. The study was conducted by the Cancer Research Center at the School of Medicine, Southampton General Hospital in the United Kingdom.
The study concluded watercress is as therapeutic as traditional drug treatments with tamoxifen and herceptin, commonly used chemotherapy drugs. The study also said that through regular consumption, watercress "has the potential to confer valuable protection against cancer in general."
"Watercress has the ability to turn off HIF1, a signal sent out by cells calling for blood supply," said noted aging scientist Dr. Nicholas Perricone. When HIF1 becomes incorrectly regulated, otherwise harmless precancerous clusters of cells have the opportunity to grow to form invasive tumors. "Scientists have been looking for anti-angiogenesis agents for years because if we can turn off the blood supply, we can kill the cancer," said Perricone.
"And it looks like watercress can do that." Another study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in February of 2007 showed that, in addition to reducing DNA damage, a daily dose of watercress increased the ability of cells to further resist DNA damage that may be caused by free radicals. In the study, 60 men and women, half of whom were smokers, consumed their usual diet plus 85 grams of raw watercress daily for eight weeks. Blood samples were analyzed for plasma antioxidant status and DNA damage in lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. Watercress consumption significantly reduced lymphocyte DNA damage.ETA: Watercress may ‘turn off' breast cancer signal
Ref: 10/94
14 September 2010
New scientific research from the University of Southampton has revealed that a plant compound in watercress may have the ability to suppress breast cancer cell development by 'turning off' a signal in the body and thereby starving the growing tumour of essential blood and oxygen.

Radiation, the gift that keeps on giving.
I just got results back from a mole on my back that looked irregular. It's dysplastic, so now I guess that makes me a tad closer to possibly having melanoma??? Merde. I have loved spending time in the sun the past two years-- I don't suntan per se, but I ride my bike, run, etc, and have felt like the Vitamin D and Vitamin A help me enormously. I don't burn easily, though I am of fair complexion (blonde-ish, green eyes).
I know it's from the rads. Ugghhhhhhh!!!!
-
Princess,
I had 2oz of wheatgrass and was completely nauseated. What's that about? My diet is super clean, so I was surprised to feel so sick.
-
Sweetbean, even if your diet is perfect now, your body still probably needs to be detoxified. What you were experiencing was perhaps a healing crisis. Basically, the wheat grass was killing intestinal yeasts, bacteria and parasites. They don't like strong green juice. It makes them commit suicide. They'd much rather you drink sweet juices. The same thing happened to me when I first had a really strong green juice. I felt like throwing up. It took months for me to touch swiss chard again. BTW, that's good for getting rid of heavy metals.
Have you ever considered doing a 10-day juice feast? (If you are on medications i.e Tamoxifen, that could be a problem. Double check first just to be sure.)
After I do a 10- day juice feasts, I feel amazing. Some weird stuff came out of me the first time. That was scary. I'll go into more detail later about that.
I don't have time this week, but in a week or so, I want to post information about water fasta and juice feasts. What I am learning is so deep. There are some books that I'll reccomend too.
Maybe, Cindy, you can share what you learned about juice feasts and what that is like, and I'll add more to the discussion later.
-
I get sick when I ingest wheat grass as well. I don't know if mine is allergy related, because I am gluten intolerant (and probably intolerant to other things as well), but I had BAD cramping, nausea and diarrhea with wheat glass juice.

Reactions to Wheat Grass
Headache and Nausea
"...Wheat grass is known to cause headache and nausea, according to Brent A. Bauer, M.D., a Mayo Clinic internist. Headache and nausea are considered to be minor side effects, but the effects can last for hours and range from an annoying, dull headache and minor nausea to sharp pains and frequent vomiting...."

princess123, I just juiced for the first time in years...I went real mild, as I remember I had two days in the bathroom years ago. So, I used a hand-full of romaine, a hand-full of spinach and an apple. I added a little lemon juice. I loved it, but I must wait and see how it affects me. It was Delicious...
I was at Costco today and the lady was giving samples of rooibos tea, flavored with cinnamon and peppermint, it was delicious. Do you know more about this tea?
-
Hey, Stage 1, I'm glad you started juicing again. Starting off with mild juices is smart. See the formula that Cindy suggested too. I think it is reasonable.
Remember that healing crisis symptoms aren't necessarily bad. These symptoms are part of the healing process. It's a sign that the body will begin to discard toxic residues which have accumulated in your body over the years. The healing process usually does not occur without "side effects", so don't try to cure a cure. The symptoms will go away as your body begins to normalize to a new level of health, I can now drink 750ml of green juice and feel fine. But it took time for me to work up to drinking that much at once.
I wouldn't drink Rooibis tea too often....According to Sloan-Kettering, as compounds in rooibos tea leaves have demonstrated estrogenic activity -- which means they produce estrogen-like effects in the body -- people with estrogen-dependant cancers should use caution before taking rooibos. You should also talk to your doctor before using rooibos tea if you are undergoing chemotherapy, as, according to Sloan-Kettering, the antioxidant effects of red tea may interfere with the action of some chemotherapeutic agents.
Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/448917-information-on-red-tea/#ixzz1dpWyVstaI drink white tea sometimes. It has much stronger antioxidant properties than green tea. I recently started drinking matcha tea too. The EGCGs in Matcha tea have also been shown to be extremely effective at fighting cancer cells. But my main tea that I drink twice per day is called Heal All Tea. I listed the herbs earlier. Apparently, this mixture is way stronger than Essaic tea.

Speaking of tea.
Here is one I researched and try to remember to have each day.
Brassica® Tea with SGS the natural antioxidant found in broccoli. I order on line.SGS activates the body's own natural antioxidant defense system, including Phase 2 Detoxification enzymes.
The long-lasting activity of SGS was discovered by scientists at Johns Hopkins University Medical School. Brassica teas are patented and licensed by Johns Hopkins University.
They also developed BroccoSprouts but I have trouble finding fresh "BroccoSprouts" in my area. Wal-Mart used to carry this Johns Hopkins brand, but they were always too brown.
-
Sharon, Thank you, I will try the white tea. I will check your previous listing on tea.
And thanks, Luna5, you are all a wealth of information! This seems to be a full-time job on how to be healthy!
-
stage1 You and I have a lot in common with our diagnosis. I was diagnosed on April Fools Day also. I asked, hopefully, if the call was an April Fools joke...but, alas...no.
-
Luna5, I thought the same thing, the morning of Ap 1st. After I regained my composure, I thought of it being a very bad joke!

Sprouts? Supplements? Team Them Up to Boost Broccoli's Cancer-Fighting Power
ScienceDaily (Jan. 27, 2011) - A new University of Illinois study provides convincing evidence that the way you prepare and consume your broccoli matters, and also suggests that teaming broccoli with broccoli sprouts may make the vegetable's anti-cancer effect almost twice as powerful....Other foods that contain sulforaphane and can be teamed with broccoli to boost its benefits are mustard, radishes, cabbage, arugula, watercress, arugula, and wasabi....
