I hope you girls will still like me in spite of my beliefs - I can't help being scientifically minded and I did look at the that program code that produced the hockey stick graph - blatant fudging of temps.

    Friendly Susie :)

I can respect differences in beliefs that don't result in name-calling and hysteria. Of course I still like you, Susie!

Hey Susie, don't worry on my end. I don't base my personal likings on people's politics. Kiss

Barbara, who is enjoying a wonderful cruise at the moment, is also conservative. Waving at Barbara, hoping you can still fit into your clothes after eating cruise ship food!

HUGS to Susie - unconditional hugs ;)  And what Blue just said.

Having FUN watching the folks trying so desperately to find an alternative to Romney.  Living in MA, we've seen ALL his "views" - but gotta admit he sure did a great job on the Olympics.  I think  the ticket is going to be Romney/Huntsman.  Nate Silver has very interesting article in NYSunday Times on all this.

Blue, room temp ginger ale, and crackers. Hope you feel better soon.

    Morning Friends!

Barbara ... hope you had a wonderful vacation!

Blue .. hoping your tummy is feeling better this morning.

Athena ... it's a beautiful day here today.  High of 69 forecast .. perfect day to mow and blow leaves!

I'm getting anxious about this long trip I'm taking on Friday.  I don't like air travel at all and thinking of being couped up for so long as my nerves frayed!

My dear friend has a bone biopsy this coming Monday.  I wanted to be at the treatment center with her that day, but I will be traveling home.

Today is Nicki's service.  Still can't wrap my head around the fact that she's gone.

    hugs to all,

    Bren

    Hi all,

Difference of opinions with respect are useful to society--how else do we expand our ideas and knowledge?

susieq58, I do have a question.  What did you (anyone else) think about the scientest ( think his name was Richard Muller and he was funded by the Koch Bro] who was a complete skeptic of global warming --better described as "climate change" ---went off to do his own tests and came back in the last month or so saying prior results supporting climate change was accurate. . . .

whether we can impact it is a different issue.  After all we are just little tiny bugs in the blotch of time that is human habitation on the planet. . . .geologic time and all that you. . . .

3monst - I believe the climate might be changing but that it is not man made. When those emails got leaked in the UK there was a link posted to the program they used to publish that graph of temperatures. It was written in Fortan language which I used to use years ago - I'm a computer programmer. I looked at the code and they had an array (a list) of temperatures, then out of the blue they added random numbers to them all to increase them with no source cited in the comments - it was very suspicious.

The thing is, that the bulk of scientists do not support the theory. My DH has read 'Heaven and Earth' by Ian Plimer which he said was outstanding, not my taste in reading however. The planet was warming in the 1920's - how do they account for that when industry was nowhere at the same level it is now. As I said yesterday, I hate to see black smoke billowing out into the atmosphere, but I don't believe carbon dioxide is a pollutant - it's not the black smoke we see. We breathe it out, plants excrete it during the osmosis process. I'll look that guy up and see what he says, but I've seen lots of other scientists that say different - DH and I do take notice of any interviews on telly.

Anyway, enough of that, I promise not to mention it again. I'm just p'd off I'm now going to have to pay a lot more for everything because of this stupid tax and not get any compensation because I earn too much. 90% of our population will get some compensation - I'm in the 10% that won't. I'd rather see my money go to planting more trees or something useful. BTW we have had solar hot water for over 30 years and I wish I could afford solar power now given our electricity prices.

    Barb - welcome home.

    Bren - prayers for Nicki

    Hugs to you all

    Sue

    Hi Lindasa,

Re Canadian passport. I popped into the passport office which was on my errand route and asked about the new passport. The e-chip insertion and revamp of the front cover is still in the discussion stages and nothing yet has been decided. Sure hope they don't change the Canadian coat of arms for something more British - that would be very sad for Canada!

You guys ... my friend Brenda posted in the 'worried about mets' forum.  Her screen name is Naniam.  Would y'all mind going over there and writing her a little note.  Her bone biopsy is on Monday ... hopefully she'll have the results by the end of the week and can get a treatment plan started.

    Thanks!

    love,

    Bren

Why did the British coat of arms issue even emerge?

Painterly apparently heard it somewhere - could be an urban myth BUT Prime Minister (for Life) Stephen Harper did change the name of the Canadian Armed Forces back to the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force, etc., etc. so perhaps this is where that came from - I don't really care what they do in Ottawa - it's kinda like Washington filled with a bunch of people who are set for life and work very few days a year IMO.

Athena -- I suspect that, since painterly lives in Quebec, she may have read something that was written by a closet separatiste (painterly, forgive me if I'm wrong).  Sandy and I both live in Ontario and we haven't heard anything about it here.  As for our Prime Minister -- I don't care about changing the name of the Armed Forces, but I do get quite perturbed about his predilection for adopting social conservative rightwing American policies in our beautiful country.  Help!  make it stop!

Hi Girls - DH going away again tomorrow afternoon. Golf - what else. He needs to be at a certain place at 3 in the afternoon, so I've decided to work from home so I can take him there - too expensive for a cab - it's quite a long way. Then I can relax and enjoy the weekend and do nothing - no cooking - hooray!!

Then the following weekend we are going away a couple of hours south to visit his step mother. His Dad died 2 years ago and DH hasn't seen her since. We do talk on the phone and I went and visited her a year or so ago. Poor Poppy won't like it though. We're only going for one night but she will have to spend 2 at the vet as we won't get home in time to pick her up on the Sunday.

I've been in a funk since all the scans and tests - boy is it stressful. You don't realise until after it's over. Starting to think a bit more positively but don't feel like doing much. I had more energy when I was off work and on frequent steroid highs :)

Ordered Aromasin from the pharmacy yesterday - they don't stock it and had to get it in. Should be there tomorrow. I'm going to try it for a few months and see if it's better for me than arimidex. DH still complaining about me being so restless at night and I keep blaming the arimidex :)

Hope you all have a lovely day!!!

Linda - agreed!  and it annoys me that even the media have continued to say "the Harper government" like he owns it personally.

Linda - couldn't agree more, the passport thing and the Armed Forces is just the kind of red herring the Conservative Government loves - makes me nuts when I think what damage they could do while the public is "other directed" as for the Harper Government - that is what they have labeled themselves and want to be called - why the press has bought into that is anyone's guess - time to start sending emails I think.

I think the greatest example of conservative (Canadian-style) stupidity is spending billions on new prison facilities because, even though the # of reported crimes has been decreasing, they believe the # of unreported crimes is increasing (yeah, figure that one out!).

Look for who is making money building and running new prisons.  That will be your answer.

Thanks Sewingnut!  I just printed out all three of my boarding passes and I'm getting quite anxious about the trip.  We have to leave tomorrow at 5:30 a.m. for the airport.  I live in such a small town that it's an hours drive to the closest airport!  The worst part of the journey will be the flight from Charlotte to San Francisco ... six freakin' hours cooped up in the middle seat in that flying tin can!

I'm looking forward to seeing my cousin though ... we have so many fun memories to talk about, I know we won't run out of conversation!  I just hope she's feeling stronger when we're there.  The doctors have given her three months to live, but I think it will be less than that because of how advanced her pancreatic cancer is.

Well .. it's noon and I'm still not dressed.  It's cloudy and rainy out and I have no errands to run today.  Also, my work is slow this week.

Tim got home this morning at 9:00 a.m. I am so happy he's home .. he's been gone for two weeks!

Hope everyone is having a good day.

    hugs,

    Bren

oh yes - the unreported crimes are the ones that are going to fill the prisons. We don't have private prisons (yet? do we?) which makes it even harder to explain our PM following examples that have long since been repudiated.

Bren - I hope there are three good movies on your flight so that it goes by really fast - or maybe two good movies and a good meal.

Linda ... I just read about another foot washing ashore in Canada.  What is the deal with that???

Thank you my friends.  Not having such a great day.  My cousin's son called me this morning completely distraught.  He was afraid she wouldn't live throughout the day.  She was over-medicated on morphine.  He is so scared and worried and couldn't stop crying.  He really needs for my sis and I to be there and help him with his mom right now.  He's a plumbing contractor and struggling to work and look after his mother, as well as his wife and son.

He meets with the hospice counselor this afternoon and I hope and pray he can get some support.  We'll only be there 2 1/2 days but we'll do what we can to help him out.

My sis was with my dad at the end and has experience with hospice and administering the pain meds, so hopefully we can help with that too.  The hospice nurse said she was in a lot of pain with her liver having spasms.

    It's all just so sad.

I'll miss you guys while I'm gone.  I don't have a laptop and don't know if her computer works or not.  If I can check in from Oregon, I will.

    love you all,

    Bren

Oh, Bren, I'm so sorry to hear this latest news.  It's so good that you'll be there for your cousin and her son -- you are going to be such a source of support for them.  I hope that your trip goes off without a hitch and that just being there, along with your sister, will make you feel less helpless.

    Man, does cancer suck.
