Starting Tamoxifin soon.  I don't have enough hair to worry about thinning though.  Am more worried about gaining weight, but that is a different thread....

Hair thinning can happen on AIs. Char is dealing with this now. So far I seem to be OK but I've only been on it since March. I have read that once the AI is stopped the hair returns in most cases.

    shayes37-oophorectomy (ovary removal).

    marthah-yeah for eyebrows.

My hair is exploding 9wk PFC. Having to pluck brows every other day and back to shaving legs every day. Eyelashes are coming in pretty fast to and the hair on my head is getting darker and thicker at an incredable rate-I can so tell already that t is going to be way curly (not looking forward to that) I even found hair growing back on my fingers and hand-kinda wishing that would have been permanently gone. Plan on posting picks soon, still trying to get exhusband to show me how.

    Hello everyone,

So I'm 3 weeks PFC today and I've been noticing white peach fuzz on my head.  Only I can see it, its so small but this morning my husband got up real close and said it looked like I had some fuzz.  Is this about normal?  I don't expect to see anything resembling hair for at least another 3 weeks.

mccrimmon - if you have fuzz at 3 weeks you are doing great!  Mine did not really come in until 12-13 weeks.  Now it is full coverage, growing well and I am still on Herceptin and Femara - no problems, but it was slow to come in.  I have about an inch and I am at 18 weeks PFC.  I have had it trimmed twice to make it actually look like a cut instead of a chia pet.

Thank you Special K, trust me its not something you can notice and I'm strange enough that I get right up at the mirror and look for anything.  That's when I see it.  I wonder if your having the same dreary weather we are today.

mccrimmon - yup - overcast and cloudy.  Went to the Bucs game last night and not only did we win, but the evening was breezy and beautiful with a great sunset!  Good times!  Don't worry, I had the reading glasses, the lighted magnifying mirror with the super magnifying purse mirror on top of it daily!  My hair returned so slowly and I was so obsessed that my DH told me I was putting too much pressure on those tiny hairs, and I should give them a break!  I was very relieved when they FINALLY started to grow!

I spent the evening painting, your night sounds so much better.  I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who obsesses.  I'm surprised my husband pointed out the fuzz as I've managed to drive him crazy with my hair, I think he may just be jealous that mine will come back eventually and his is long gone.

mccrimmon - funny you say that about your DH's hair - my hairdresser had me start using the Bosley products as soon as I had some new hair.  My DH started stealing it and using it too and then exclaimed that it was making his fine hair thicker!  We were both way too obsessed about our hair!

A friend of mine bought me the Minoxinal, (I know that's completely spelled wrong) when I first started chemo.  I don't know why but I have used it thruout chemo, but since I have no hair I was using less than a pea sized amount.  I didn't use the conditioner or the other stuff you put in after your shower until after chemo, hopefully that's what's helping.  I'm just tired of looking at my bald head.

Haha!  When I heard I was going to lose my hair, my DH said I won't be the baldest person in the house any more.  I said yeah, but I'll get mine back.  I think I'm being punished and getting it back extra slowly for that comment.  He has used Rogaine for years, but I don't know why he has very little hair and it doesn't seem to be doing anything for him.

I went to dr and radiation today with no head covering!  I was so scared.  As soon as I got back in my car I started crying.  I hate cancer so much for what it does to us!

ksmatthews: hugs to you! I was thinking the same exact thing as I was trying to find jeans that fit. I gained so much weight from chemo.

Today I went topless all day. I am so very tired of covering my head.

If curls were going to happen would I know by 16 weeks PFC?  My hair was straight before chemo and now the little I have looks straight and lays flat on my head.

psu222 - my curls took a little while to develop, hair started out straight, then got wavy, then went curly. I am 18 months PFC, noticable curls around 10 months PFC for me. Was also on Herceptin until 12/15/10.

ksmatthews and EmmaC, congrats to both of you on that huge step!  I have stuck my toe in the waters of toplessness, but am not ready to go skinnydipping quite yet!  Laughing

At my "girls' night out" (I shoot on a pool league with 4 other women), I absolutely couldn't take it any more one night a couple weeks ago, so off came the hair.  I also cried, but figured it was because I'd had a couple drinks, rather than the fact it was such an emotional experience!  Wink  But, it was the only way I had the courage to do it!  I've been dabbling with just a hat the last couple weeks now...

I am with BOTH of you on the weight gain!  And, DAMN, it just doesn't seem to want to come off!  Why can't it fall off as easily as the hair fell out????

kay1963, the *possibility* of weight loss as an SE was the only reason I "almost" looked forward to starting Tamoxifen!

My hair did not curl until about 4 months PFC. I always had wavy hair though and the shorter it is the more curl. I let my hair dry naturally today and i have kind of a short loose afro lol. I went with it and just kind of straightened my bangs. I am almost at 10 months now and its a very in between length now. I don't think I will ever be able to cut it.

I will be 25 weeks pfc tomorrow and growth is still slow. I am currently on a short holiday about 600 miles from home where noone knows me. I am topless and look fine with one inch of hair, gold earrings and lipstick, so people can presume that I'm female. It is nice to feel the breeze on my scalp.

If anyone approaches me and says anything about my hair, I will say that I'm an actress and cut it for a role. I'm not really an actress but will be acting if I give that response :-) .

I am going topless all around except work!  I still am not ready for that.  It was very emotional for me.  I keep crying when I think about it.  I also try to wear pink or something that says BC so anyone that looks will know why my hair is this short.  I hope by Christmas I can shed the wig completely.

KS - good for you.  I just can't do it.  I have to at least wear a hat - I have a fight like a girl hat so it pretty much explains the bad hair cut!

KSmatthews  I did the same thing as far as going topless everywhere except for work for a while because I knew I wouldn't really run into anyone I knew. Then I went on vacation without the wig and decided to return to work with my "new look". I've become comfortable with it but it's still strange and my hair is growing very slowly so I don't have any style to it-haven't even had it cut or trimmed yet at 4 1/2 months PFC.

MamaV u can do it!  I was extremely scared, but I just put my "fight like a girl" gloves on and did it!

Dragon fly I am working on ditching the wig completely!  I admire you!

I am 14 weeks PFC today and I've been going topless since the first of the month, to work and everywhere. Most people I know probably think why I did I cut my hair this short, but no one has asked. I'm getting use to going without my wig, but today is our first cold spell, I believe I will be wearing a hat when out. The wind is a little chilly with very short hair.
