Why are all the good shows on all in one night?  had to flip channels all night to catch them all.  I like the playboy club also  A little sex, a little mafia, a little murder....and of course my DH loves the girls outfits.  LOL I will have to get me one of those outfits

I saw the chew yesterday, between painting the bathroom.  today my sisiter and i are going antiquing, gonna try to find a huge mirror that I can get creative with and make art deco. Asked my DH to remove the old vanity mirror and lights for me and he was not happy.

Michelle  your daughter and mine must be of the same fiber.  Mine wanted to do accounting, she is a math braniac like her father, and we had a talk and my advice was to do what you love, as you will do it the rest of your life.  she chose the textiles/merchandising, also has a degree in business. My DS is in his last year of college (5yr degree)  I am going to be so much richer when these kids are finally done!  We are headed to Ohio on Saturday to visit him for parents weekend...We stay in an old grain silo that the college transformed into a hotel (quaker oats) and they serve the best oatmeal in the world for breakfast.

Sorry...guess I had a lot to say this morning

Carrie, your posts are always so interesting, don't apologize!  I am an accountant, and one of the good things about it, are that you can work in whatever interests you, non-profit, textiles (if there are any still in this country), music, etc.  Unfortunately, I don't think I have a creative bone in my body.  I worked for a yarn manufacturer as controller for 10 years.  My boss (the owner) knew everything about textiles.  If I had been interested, I could have learned it too.  Now I work for a water treatment company.  I do find it interesting, but I haven't learned a whole lot about it.  Been working there for 10 years now.  My twin sister is also an accountant and works for a university.  She loves it.  She loves being in the university setting and all the things that brings.  I wish I could feel I was doing something "good" with my job.  I have thought that way before, but now since BC, I really want to feel that about my job.  Maybe I should try to switch to a non-profit.

Just had a tuna sandwich last night for dinner.  I had the simulation for rads and start today.  I am surprised that it took a lot out of me.  I guess my nerves are still a bit on edge with it since I just don't know what it is going to be like yet.  I don't think my family can expect too many big dinners until I am through with it though.  Have a good Tuesday everyone.

Good luck, Kay!  And yes, accountants can work almost anywhere!

And Carrie - no apologies necessary!  My posts are almost always long!!!

My daughter has 4 CPA firms interested in her (the new grad recruitng has begun already!).  She wants to do Tax Accounting (really???)  and is particularly excited in one company that is in Manchester NH (just a few minutes from where she lives), she knows several employees and managers of this company, and they help pay for CPA courses.  Also, because she graduates in December, she has a head start on the competition.  It looks like she won't have a problem getting a job, unlike so many other new grads.  Could be her 3.999 GPA and the fact that she has work experience (she'll be 31 on Thursday).  I am so proud of her for figuring it out and going to school fulltime at this point in her life!

Hauntie - take it easy.  I am glad you are here on this thread.

Carberry - (cute name) - my kids totally wipe out my income.  I am the only one who ever has any cash... at least for a while.

about the Sing Off.  I've been watching tv lately.. i need to put my feet up and give them a rest more often than not.  I've been a big fan of Ben Folds and the judges are so knowledgeable and competent.  I love hearing their learned analyses.    plus.. the music is fantastic.. I love Afro Blue and the Yellow Jackets particularly.  I love all of them.. I hate to see them booted off.  That lead singer of the guys that lost last nite was absolutely awesome..his voice OMG!!!

I see a trend of them letting the 'professional' groups leave.  i kind of like that even tho they are really good.

let's see.. tonite we are having a pork roast of sorts.  i can tell this will be a nap day (i've got to be high energy tomorrow).. so I think i will just put it in the crock pot and see what happens.. maybe make some mashed potatoes and salad.

Hi, I've been absent from this thread for 4 months because DH and I have been travelling.  We departed on May 17 headed to Alaska with DH's 1 ton pickup and a truck camper on top of it.  We arrived home on Sept. 12 after travelling over 13,000 miles.  We had a wonderful trip through the Yukon and into Alaska, where we visited most of the huge, beautiful state.  Anyone on this thread who lives in Alaska?

I missed a whole block of posts and haven't gone back and read them all.  We ate some delicious halibut in Alaska and brought some home that we caught on a charter fishing trip out of Homer, AK.

Last night we had roast pork and sweet potatoes.  The pork was a bone-in Boston butt.  I used a recipe from America's test Kitchen.  You mix 1/3 cup kosher salt and the same amt of brown sugar.  Make slits in the fat cap on the roast.  Pat the salt/sugar mixture on the roast all over and double wrap in plastic wrap.  Refrigerate 12 to 24 hrs.  Cook the roast in a 325 oven for 5 to 6 hrs to 190 degrees.  Rest an hour.

Make a peach sauce with 10 oz fresh or frozen peaches, 1/3 c. au jus, 2 cups white wine, 1/3 cup rice vinegar.  Simmer and reduce to 2 cups.  Add 1 T brown grain mustard.  Easy and very delicious.

The recipe says to brush off the excess salt/sugar before cooking but I rinsed the roast because the last time I used this recipe the meat tasted a little salty to me.  It's actually a very easy recipe.  Just takes some planning ahead.  The pork is juicy and delicious.  We had it with baked sweet potatoes.  Tonight we'll have leftovers.

Carolehalston - welcome back!  And I am sooo jealous of your Alaska trip!  We did an inside passage cruise but didn't do a land excursion because we fully intend to do what you just did!  Do you have pictures on a website that you are willing to share?  PM me if so and I'll give you my email address.  My daughter uses America's Test Kitchen recipes all the time. Your pork butt recipe sounds yummy!  I guess it's a roast pork kind of day everywhere!  We may have pork chops.

What luck!  I just found a container of homemade chicken soup in the freezer.  I think I made it right when I started chemo.  Just what the doctor ordered!!!

I am washing my pillows today.  They just needed help!  And it requires little work on my part!

Michelle- I hope you're feeling better and that your chicken soup helped!  I havent watched The Voice or The Chew.  I am so happy that your daughter is having luck with getting a great job right out of school.  I think she picked a great career path.  After all, you always need your taxes done right?

Carrie - I agree never apologize for a long post, I always enjoy your posts too and I have a tendency to ramble a bit.  Not to mention just the comments to keep up with what everyone is doing!

carol- Welcome back!  It sounds like you had an amazing trip.  It sounds like it was pretty relaxing and so much fun.

Kay- I hope you rested today and are feeling ok.  Sometimes adrenalin can kick our butts when we don't even see it coming.  You have a lot going on, take care of yourself.

Debbie- LOL, my husband was picking up shingles from the old roof, he doesn't have them!  But thanks :P

My son has his last soccer game/practice whatever you want to call it when they are 4!  So we are headed to the field for 5:30.  I took out a pizza dough to make a pizza when we get home.  I honestly hate the whole 5:30 thing, by now I am ready to go into evening mode and relax a bit.

I hope everyone had a good day, it was soooo dreary here.  Hopefully the sun comes out tomorrow.  I need to find a Halloween costume for my oldest son, this should be interesting....

Michelle- LOL! Its funny because im thinking in my head hmmm the big C what is that, didnt even dawn on me it might stand for cancer-! I have all the premium channels showtime etc,, and searched for it on my tv search area and it didnt come up, when does it air? Washing pillows sounds like a big task, somthing i probably need to do but havint, wash the cases only.

Carrie- Have you seen my long post LOL!

Kay-I hope your rads go easy on you!

Carol- Wow, what a trip.and an adventure you have been on, i would love to just get in a RV or camper and travel, I bet Alaska was beautiful, what was your favorite state you went through? And glad you are back!!! ;-))))))

Apple- I didnt have time to read all the post the other day and just kind of caught up, I bet you are a great chef with all your background experience. I grew up working in restauants (family owned) and my brother was/is a great chef as well, it kind of came naturally to him but he did go to culinary school as well. They give culinary classes here where i live and am thinking seriously about taking a few classes just for fun.

Had a taco salad for lunch and finishing off the Briocole for dinner tonight- Easy nite!

Debbie- the Big C is on showtime and the second season just ended.  If you go to On Demand and look under series you will see all the shows from the last two seasons.  They say they are going to do a season for each stage of grief. denial, pain, anger , grief etc.  The shows are only ahalf hour long and I have loved watching this main character.

Laurie and Debbie - it's even funnier because I thought Debbie was joking about Laurie's DH "having" shingles!!!

Washing pillows involved two loads in the washer and dryer, four pillows, seriously not a big deal because it wasn't a load full of stuff to be folded and put away.  DH will be home when I get ready to make the bed and he'll help.  We have 2 down pillows and 2 down-like pillows. I like them to be squishy.  But they were so "flat" that it was time to fluff them up!  A trip through the washer and dryer did the trick - they look like new!

I just ordered a pizza for delivery.  DH won't be home until probably 9 or so, this project is kicking his butt!  I didn't feel like heading to the grocery store and I wasn't interested in the fridge's contents of leftovers.  Sooo...pizza will fill the gap.

I got an email yesterday from Stop'n Shop and they are starting to deliver groceries in my area through their PeaPod service.  I think I'll give that a try!  My daughter did it when she lived in Clinton MA and it worked out really well.

I love Peapod when there's snow.  I wish I could have joined you for your meal, I live in Providence, but taking the 15 year old Volvo on the road gave me pause cause it's been 'wiggling"

For dinner tonight: Black Bean Soup Really easy! Topped with sour cream, cheddar cheese and cilantro and tortilla chips, ripe pears, salad. Maybe crusty bread or chololate ice cream, but I bet I'll be too full.  Here's the recipe.

Debbie, my favorite state we travelled through on our way home was Idaho, which has some really beautiful scenery.  We spent Labor Day in a little town in Idaho high desert country called Challis.  Very interesting history.  I had never been to Nebraska, so we travelled through it.  The United States is a wonderful country and every state has interesting places to visit.

Michelle, I did write a travelogue and would be happy to give the website.  www.mytripjournal.com/TheBigAlaskaTrip.  Funny thing is I left us stranded in Haines, AK!  I got busy and never did finish the travelogue.  From Haines we began taking passages on the Alaska ferries through the inland passage to various cities:  Juneau, Sitka, Petersburg, Ketchikan, and, finally, to Prince Rupert, where we hit the highway again.  The drive through British Columbia on the way down to the lower 48  was very beautiful.

We bought a used Lance truck camper for the trip with the intention of selling it when we got back home.  Normally we travel with a large 5th wheel and don't need two RVs.  Luckily we found a buyer this week!

Today I thawed out a 20 lb. package of salmon bits that I brought home from Alaska and cooked it with some olive oil and butter.  Then I consulted about 7 recipes for salmon burgers and came up with my own mixture, which is in a large mixing bowl in the refrigerator.  After it's thoroughly cold, I'll make up the burgers and store them in the freezer to take out one at a time.  DH does not like salmon, and I've given up on finding a recipe that will win him over.

I also made some garlicky, lemony hummus and added diced kalamata olives to it.

All this interest in food, and I'm eating small portions at meals in a determined effort to take off extra pounds.

carolehalstI lived and worked in Barrow Ak for 14 months for a job.  Not much demand for Muktuk in the lower 48.  I agree with you on the hummus!   Why was I paying sooo much for a tiny tub when I can make tons in the blender for practically nothing?  Now it is my favorite thing to make and people seemed to be stunned that you can do it.  Don't give up the secret.  I was wondering about adding Kalamata olives today.  Thanks for the confirmation!  :)

Have you tried disguising salmon with Wasabi sauce or powder mixed with mayo and maybe Dijon mustard? ?  Or how about just fryin it up with Cajun seasoning  and serving it with french fries and ketchup?  Guys are not always gourmets

Carole - what a great travelogue!  I must admit that you made me curious to see "the rest of the story"...   My DH has always wanted a big rig, but I am guessing from the roads you describe that smaller is better.  He has been talking about a small class C, which would probably work for a trip like this.  I would definitely try to find a good used one.  I got the sense that in most locations, you didn't need a vehicle to get around once you reached your RV destination.  Is that correct?

Bedo - I had to look up muktuk (whale blubbler) - not sure I had ever heard of that term.

MIchelle-Ha ha, that is so funny you thought i was kidding, maybe i should of pretended i was, but after all you know im BLONDE hehe!  What a great idea to get home delivery from a grocery store.

Laurie- Thanks, I just found it on demand im going to start watching them from the beginning now, cant believe i hadnt heard about it before now!

Bedo- I hate going to the dentist, i literally want to pass out just thinking about it. And Ouch!! A broken eye socket? That sounds painful.;-((

Carol- I agree Idaho is a very beautiful state, not sure which is my favortie (besides hawaii) There is so much to see here in the good old USA!- I also make my own hummus, funny because im sitting here snacking on greek and kalamata olives mixed with feta cheese from the deli i got earlier today, and i think the olives would be good in the hummus, might taste similar to a tapenade.

Carole.. i almost went to work, teaching, in Barrow Alaska.. went somewhere else instead.. the thought of being stranded there over the winter was not too appealing.  I am an easily chilled person.

(i make a gallon of hummus at a time.. it freezes for years).. don't ask me how i know that.

Lauire- I love the BIG C- IM hooked! I watched 7 episodes last nigth and 2 more this morning, besides the seriousness, sad and smutty ha! parts, it is hilarious!  Do you have a problem with on demand, i havnt really used it before now, but after every few episodes it would get stuck on the screen and wont let me turn the channel or turn it off until i wait it out (about 5 minutes) annoying!

I love the Big C too!   The last episode I've seen is #2 from season 2.  I have to go over my sister's and catch up on the rest.  I had the same thing happen (screen getting stuck) when I watched it on demand too.  Loved the first onc. and her crazy brother characters.

Debbie and Kay let me know when you get through the end of season 2!  I was left speechless, which if you know me is a hard thing to do:D  I'm rather chatty!

Dinner is going to be something with chicken.  Either a sesame chicken or chicken tenders or chicken with stuffing.  Can you tell I have chicken out?  We need to get the basement ready for the sheet rock guy to start work tomorrow.  Should be pretty simple, my fingers are crossed that it will be quick.  I figured I'de let my husband pick the chicken dish when he gets home, they are all pretty quick.

Laurie - sheet rock = major league dust!  I hope it's over quickly!

I went for my DIEP consultation today and yes, I can have it for sure.  But, and this is a big but, they won't do it until six months after I finish radiation.  I don't know if I've got it in me to put up with these TEs for another 9 months.  I'm disappointed, and my only option is to go visit Kay's surgeon Wink

I'm not feeling so good today, not sure what's going on.  My blood sugar was insanely high this morning, very unusual for me.  I was nauseous and I was running a slight fever this afternoon.  I took a couple of Tylenol along with a nice nap.  I seem to be better now.  Maybe it was just a fluke.  DH is heating up soup for me.  That's just about my speed tonight.  I'm hoping this passes - I need to go visit my mom and take her out for lunch, and I had told her it would be Thursday.  We'll see...

Michelle, sorry you're not feeling so well.  I'm sure my PS would love another patient.  I'm not sure what she'd say either.  I got the surgery at the same time as MX, it wasn't an elective surgery.  I still had the cancer in the breast and had to get it out.  I saw her Monday and she told me I have to wait until 6 months after finishing rads to get a nipple, so she might have told you the same thing.

Leftover meatballs and spaghetti and a salad for dinner.  Going to 2nd radiation soon.  The only initial times they had left were at night.  My appointment is at 8:40.  Maybe I'll like the late appointment.  I hope it goes a whole lot more smoothly and quickly than the first one.

    Have a nice evening everyone.

Good luck with your second appointment Kay.  My first thought was augh, so late ate night?  Yuck.  But...it might work out well as you get to come home and rest right away without feeling any guilt.  So maybe it will work out really well.

Michelle- I'm so sorry that you are feeling so yucky.  I hope you are able to sleep tonight.  Congrats on getting a thumbs up on the DIEP surgery.  A second opinion with Kays surgeon is a good idea.  Another opinion never hurts.  I know what you mean about the TE's, how long have you had them now?  I had mine for 7 months and it felt like forever.

I ended up doing the sesame stir fry, very quick and good, but not a favorite with the boys.  Ohwell, you can't please everyone all of the time.

I've had mine since April and now it looks like I'm stuck with them until next June.  Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!  I'll consider my options after the PET/CT scan next week.  It may be a moot point, my CA 27.29 went up 10 points (from 44 to 54)...not good news.  The "normal" is below 38 and I was at 64 when my recurrence was diagnosed in March.  I had already decided that I would definitely have rads first if there was any cancer remaining after chemo.  That news did not make my day, as you can imagine.

awww HUGS Michelle, sorry to hear you were not feeling well.  Soup seems to be the staple when one does not feel up to par.

Back in November of 2010 my CA 27-29 was 45.9 it kind of surprised my onc, but she was not concerned b/c my CA 15-3 was 31.2 normal being 0-31.3, I concider that in the high normal range and CEA 1.3.  Now the CA27-29 is 41.4 so it looks like it is going down.  I do have uterine fibroids, I read that the CA 27-29 can be elevated for B9 reasons also.  So my onc thinks that that could be the reason.
