I put a big flag up on the mailbox at the end of the driveway so people would be able to find the house....that is IF they found the road to Greenshores....they don't make the roads out there with very big signs, but I was impressed that everyone got there without too much trouble. Also I am posting the view from the deck, one of my favorites so I have a lot of it, and also a pic I took of some of our pills with the little cocktail napkins I had that read More Medication Please....appropos', no?  We did not drink a lot, but did have frozen margaritas and bourbon slushes several nights as well as some really good wine Badger brought all the way from WI along with some Lemon Cello(sp).

I forgot to ask if that was a specially made flag?  What did it say on there?

The banner?....Something we probably wouldnt like....maybe fight, survive....I forget. But I thought it was a good way to mark the driveway which I have missed numerous times.  I saw it at Big Lots or Joanne's or somewhere and sale and thought Hmmmm, I can use this is Shell Knob.   I had a little discussion with my father and cousin about that while Chrissy was in the bathroom when we went to dinner that one night and my father made a comment on how he was really proud of the good fight I was putting up and I told him " You know, most women with breast cancer do not like to be dubbed, fighters, survivors, and with terms like that" and my father, who is a stubborn old dutchman, said well, I still think you women are fighters.  IMHO, we are just women doing what we have to do, living with BC.  I will be anxious to find out on Tues, if this Xeloda, Herceptin combo I am on is taking the tumor markers down.....if they have continued to go up and are now in the 4,000s, I am going to be pissed....well, maybe that is the wrong term, but I will be very disappointed and will probably start going to that other onco I had the consultation appt with.

Barb, I think we all love eating....here are a few pics of the place we went for brunch last Sunday at the school of the Ozarks.....I think the dessert table was the favorite with all of us.   I thought this was a rather unique way of displaying the wares...the drawers had different desserts in them. All very low cal and healthy, rest assured.

Lisa,  I guess we all are in the sense we aren't ready to just lie down and die, BUT I do not like the term for myself and honestly do not feel like I am putting much effort into living, I just do it.  I always say I am living with breast cancer and that's what I feel I am doing.

Totally off any subject, Tim just called and starts out with Marybe, your father is OK....after having started out that way, I knew what was to follow could not be good news.  He only left for home less than an hour ago, but it seems he rammed into the back of another car.  I don't know any details or how bad it was, but Tim said a tow truck was coming.  We have been telling him he needs to stop driving for quite awhile....he had said he was going to quit this year, but instead he got his driver's llicense renewed and was so pleased that he passed the test.  I asked Did they actually have you drive and he said No, it was just a vision test.  Well, they should have made him take a driving test.   Gotta go....Tim must called and I guess the hway patrol did not call a tow truck so I have to look one up.  Later.

Marybe, I totally agree about the labels we get ... I never thought I survived anything - I was told something was wrong, I went to doctors who told me how they thought we should handle it, and I did and do. Not sure if you saw my FB rant about pink and October or not ... scared a few people I think :)  The bottom line is that cancer is a very personal experience and just like everything else in life, each person has to handle and react and respond in their own way. Vive la differance :)

I don't like Pinktober either.  And when Susan Korman used money donated to "find the cure" to sue an elderly couple in Eastern Washington who used the phrase in a local fundraiser they held for BC they completely lost my support.  I now donate to our local research programs in Seattle.

OK, Barbe58, this one is for you.   Remember how I was talking about a store in Eureka Springs where I always liked to buy saltwater taffy and you asked What is Saltwater taffy?  Well, this is it....I have been eating a lot of it and when I got weighed today at the onco's I was up 4 lbs....although I am sure it is not just from the taffy...it's from funnel cakes, and the dessert buffet at the brunch we went to, and a lot of other things I have been eating.  Also, this taffy is not from that place, although I bought it there....we ate that and I gave what was left to my cousin since he loves it.  Then on the way home my father and I stopped at this place that was advertised as the world's largest candy store.  I do not think it was, but they did have a lot of candy.  There were baskets and baskets full of saltwater taffy on one side of the room and baskets of assorted penny (ha...used to be) candy.  When we left the place I said to my father, I really don't think I could have bought 10 lbs of candy, but the bill is over $35 and he said it was $3.49 per 1/2lb.....I was thinking it said per pound!!  Guess my father's eyes are better than I thought.  Anyway, here is a picture for you....my favorite flavors are the licorice, peppermint and molasses....also cherry and banana are pretty good.

Hahaha!  Happened to take a look here right when Marybe posted her TAFFY.  Well, she shared some with me at Shell Knob.  I think her top 3 flavors are my top three also...not sure she got any of the molasses with me around, but I didn't touch her licorice ones.

Barb58, the story supposedly goes that a guy had a taffy stand in Atlantic City, NJ and his stand got sprayed with saltwater.  Before he threw away all his wares, people tasted and loved it.  You can probably find it at any bulk candy place, so you will have to give it a try.

3jays, That little pug dog is having quite a reaction to Pinktober!   Cool

I also do not like Pink month.....you would not believe some of the things they slap that little pink ribbon on just to sell them....well yes, I know you would because most of you have seen them.  We stopped at a convenient mart when we were in MO. and they had pocket knives and flashlights with pink ribbons on them.  I think many of the companies who join in are actually doing it with good intent, but I think the month itself is just a big source of irritation for women who actually have breast cancer....just my humble opinion.  And who knows if the money is actually going where they say it is going.  Anyway, I myself am guilty of touting the pink this past month.....the flag I put up on the mailbox so the women would not miss the driveway and it just seems sort of appropos' since we all came to know each other through the BCO threads, plus it was on sale and the apron I got a few years ago as a gift.

I'm o.k. with Pinktober, but there has got to be MORE than just raising awareness for early detection.  Too much money spent on that, not enough going to research into an actual cure.  Or how 'bout better detection methods and treatments?  Mammo, mammo, mammo...well it missed mine.  Slash, poison, burn...will we ever get some new treatments that cut down on the collateral damage to our bodies.  Hurry Up!!!

Love the pics, Marybe. I've never had any of the taffy flavors you mentioned--we usualy get saltwater taffy at the beach (lots of places you can watch them make it) and Of the flavors available, I like lime, banana rum, and coffee the best.  DH likes root beer.

I hate and despise Pinktober.  Yesterday our newspaper was printed on pink paper and that really got to me.  I don't go into the nicest dept store here this month since they turn it totally pink, with pink ribbons hanging from the ceiling and register receipts printed in pink.  Last year I did go and, caught by surprise, was unable to shop and fled, major meltdown!  (I was less than 6 weeks from the last surgery then.)  I may, just may, try to go in  a couple of weeks---the store has had a major remodeling and expansion and they'll be having the ribbon cutting and great sales.  DH said he'd go with me, so just maybe I'll go.

At least the newspaper today was on regular paper!

I've never been bothered by pictober. If it motivates someone to get that 1st mammogram or start doing BSEs, or asking questions and checking into family history then I can deal with all the pink.  BSEs and screenings aren't perfect, as we all know, and we need better, but lives have been saved because of them.  I would  like to know where the money goes that is raised from all the pink paraphenalia that is sold and BC charities that are bombarding us with mailings for donations.  Most importantly,  how do we get more money into the hands of researchers who are searching for better treatments for stage IV and a cure that would kill this beast once and for all.

Hauntie, as I plan my charitable giving for next year I've been wondering the same thing.  I've been looking at a couple of the research programs locally (Seattle region) and think I'll pick one and call their business office and just ask how to get the money directly to the research coffers.
